A short monologue (YouTube video) by Dara Ladjevardian arguing that the "microwave approach" — seeking rapid fixes for addiction — fails. The speaker draws on personal and observed experiences: people stop group treatment after a few months, later relapse and suffer personal losses, and leaders should emphasize long-term commitment and patience in recovery.
The microwave approach doesn't work. And we see it not work because guys will try to do what they can so fast. And then they like, oh, they're in group for three, four months, and they're like, oh, man, I'm doing really good. I think I'm in a good spot. My marriage is great. I don't need group anymore. And then two, three months, a year later, they come back, their wife has left them, they've lost their job. Now they need to get back. And they said, I wish I would have taken the time to do it up front, you know, And I think we really have to, when we're talking as leaders, even here at PD or in the church, if you're overseeing groups, is to really reiterate that this isn't, you know, a quick fix. I spent my half my life in addiction. I'm not going to beat it in six weeks. Yeah, it's going to take some time.
