A simple trick that improved my life as an entrepreneur

Nir Zavaro shares what worked at his keynote in India: asking entrepreneurs to pick one habit to start and one to stop. Attendees quit social media and started health routines. He's now testing marketing campaigns across countries, planning a 7,000-word article on business storytelling, and scaling to 8-10 YouTube videos monthly.

Hello, beautiful people. Welcome back to my channel. My name is Nir Zavaro. I literally landed an hour ago and already had to talk about another podcast I'm gonna do next week. I'm back in Vietnam after a couple of days and a short weekend in a place called Kumbh Mela in India. The event was unbelievable. I want to talk a little bit about that, give you a quick update about the things I'm working on and building in public, and why I think The next month might be one of the most important ones I've had during this whole trip, the last 6 months and the last year of me trying to build my life in public.
So let's start.
Here it goes. Combatoil was amazing because the event was called Bounce Back Champions.
We had like 7 or 8 different speakers. I was doing the keynote and it was resilience and how do you bounce when things happen, when you lose everything.
There was a guy who went to jail, someone during COVID people who lost families, a lot of different things.
The event was in a beautiful setup. I'll add some images now and some stuff so you can see. And I really enjoyed it because it was It wasn't recorded except for that bit that you're gonna see that I did record for something completely different. And it was so open and candid.
My event, my talk focused on this idea of life is short.
And I started my life probably 5 or 6 times from scratch. And now I'm making so many changes because I'm actually doing lists and I'm becoming more and more intentional and asking you, If you could start one thing, write it down, what would it be? And if you could stop one thing, what would it be? And the idea is to save time to enable yourself to have time to do something else.
Some of the things that people said. Someone came up to me after the event, thanked me, and said his plan is to stop taking his cell phone to the toilet. He's wasting about 30 minutes. Another guy stood up while I was doing the talk, and when I asked him, what are you going to stop? He said, I already deleted my Instagram and TikTok. I'm spending about an hour. Mind you, this guy runs a business with 1,000 or 2,000 employees in India. His wife later came up to me and said, thank you very much, 'cause I've been trying to ask him to delete it for months. Someone said that they were gonna start running and they did. Someone deleted their newsfeed. I don't know if you guys know this, on Android they have this thing, if you swipe left, You can see the newsfeed. He deleted that 'cause he learned that when he wakes up, there was a habit where he swipes, spends an hour doing dumb shit, reading stupid things that he doesn't need, and other things. Someone started to post, someone about spending more time with their kids. So it was really inspiring. There were 2 or 3 people talking about writing a book, which I think maybe I need to do a video about that sometime, probably in April we'll do something. One thing you wanna start, one thing you wanna stop. And see where it takes you. Another thing that was amazing was the hospitality. The food was out of this world, but the hospitality was really interesting. They literally hug you. You're part of the family and they spend time. And I did another talk to about 50 entrepreneurs. Their businesses are really big. So it's funny when someone says, we have a small business of 700 or 800 employees, right? Where I come from in Israel, 800 is a huge business. And all of them are going through the same issues. And I did a session about branding and how to look at that brand character. What are the emotions we're putting in when it comes to the customer journey, the messaging, and the sales? One of the people was talking about the fact that they own a chain of supermarkets. I later learned that was a very big chain of supermarkets. And they're focused on vegetables and fruits. They buy so much that that they literally need to buy the whole farm. So that means they also buy the things that you can't sell as a produce in the supermarket, but you can make a juice out of it. So they're building a whole chain of juice places. Crazy things. And we spoke about the small things you can do in a customer journey. Sometimes your business is so small or so big that you don't really focus your time on customer journey. So I invite you all to kind of like Make that list, every contact point you might have with your clients and what can you improve when you look at that customer journey. And if you're not sure, leave a comment here and we'll try and help you. But that's a big thing. Let's talk a little bit about building in public and what I think you guys can learn from it. One thing is I started with this guy to do some small campaigns and we're testing out things that might work in different markets, in Europe, South Africa, a little bit in Israel and some other countries to see if I and promote the YouTube channel. Does it even make a difference? Can we find the right audiences and stuff? We're moving pretty well when it comes to the number of subscribers. I will let you know about everything else. But in order to really amplify this, we will need to have at least 1 or 2 lead magnets. So I'm working on these lead magnets now, which isn't easy. I'm trying to figure out what it could be. Technically, I want to sell the book. The problem is you can't use the word fuck. Anywhere. You can't promote it. So the landing page can't say the book, the book's name. Crazy, I know. Life. But we knew that when I started working on the book and we tested different things. So I'm stuck with it. Another thing that will be interesting to see is I'm trying to structure the messaging and what I want to talk about.
So I'm trying to build the next step, which would be deleting almost all the blog posts I have on my website. And improving that by creating more pillar content pieces. I'm now working on one about the business storytelling, where all the things that comes into play. One of them is the fact that when you ask people what is storytelling, they'll tell you a bunch of BS, but technically it's telling a story and a good storyteller and you get it. No need to complicate. But how does it come into play in a business under the brand character, the messaging, the customer journey, the marketing and the sales? And I'm gonna try and do one big article. So about 7,000 words is where I'm aiming this, and then links from there, and then to try and promote that on Google and see if that helps. The funnel would be this to a lead gen— sorry, to a lead magnet. The lead magnet will go probably to a sequence of emails. So I'm working on a 5-day sequence where every day you will check one thing in your business. And that will take you from there to the program. So that's a mastermind that I've started. It's going okay. And we're now increasing the numbers of people who are signing up. And it's great. As for YouTube, I'm going to try and build a different structure, more videos that are, let's say, curated for you guys. I will keep the building in public, but a bit like this because I like it and things that you can use. So how would the plan look like if we want to have 8 or 10 different videos a month? I now have a list of the next 8 upcoming videos that need to teach one thing, and I'm going to start working with a video editor, and hopefully the quality will be good enough in terms of visual and sound that he can make it into something really nice.
Shorts and other stuff I'm using a platform called Loomly. I hope I'm saying that right. And I started to time different things.
It's really cool.
I'll do a video also about that, but I'm really enjoying this concept because it saves me tons of time. I'm building the whole structure of how the 1,000 pieces of content could look like. And I'm starting to interview VAs that will take over that. So if you're noticing in the Building in Public, I'm slowly starting to put the right people in the right seats. So we're getting them on the bus, as we say. say, the right people to come on the bus, and hopefully that will start saving time. At the end, I want to open a camera, do the video, send that. Someone else will take care of the editing, someone else will take care of uploading. I want to be the one doing the content. As for the book, there is a nice place not far from Da Nang where I'm staying. It's about 40 or 50 minutes. Um, we're gonna take taxi on a Friday with a friend. I'm gonna stay there, I think, for 2 or 3 weeks. It's a place called Hoi An, and the plan will be to look at the rice fields, run, exercise, and write. So do the 2 videos a week, exercise, keep writing, and hopefully by the time I go back to Tel Aviv in a month's time, I will have a, a very nice outline to the book. That is my hope, plus all the pillar contents and stuff like that. To be honest, I'm struggling a lot with writing, which is weird because I write every day about 1,500 words. But when it comes to these things, for some reason I feel uncomfortable.
So I'm telling you what I'm telling myself is sometimes we just need to push through.
Keep writing, keep doing it.
If you're struggling with anything, DM me, let me know. I'll be happy to chat. And maybe we can do a session live where everybody writes. I don't know. We'll figure it out. This is the last month technically, 'cause on the 9th I will land in Israel for a month visiting family, friends, and doing some speaking engagements. And we're gonna announce, I think we already announced the PR with Google that we're gonna do some stuff. So I'm really looking forward to that. The Tech Association and some VCs, and it's going to be great. The Technical University, I'm probably forgetting other stuff. So why is this important?
This will also mark the one year since I came back to Israel and started this whole thing about writing and figuring out how I'm going to look at life, what are the changes, and that was part of the resilience talk I did in India.
Right.
So writing, talking to myself, doing less things, finding that tipping point, and how do you build those habits and things. I'm about 10% less when it comes to my body weight. I'm running faster than I ever did, at least in the last 15 years, and I'm not young anymore. I know I look young, but the idea now is how do I turn all of this, this last month, how do you do the last push? You're almost done. The year is almost over. And again, not easy. I'm trying to push myself to do more exercises, to run more, to run better, to run faster if need be, to write better content, to have a better schedule. All the things I've started to do over the last few months need to come together now into this one last effort. And to be honest, what happens when you fail?
What happens when it doesn't work?
And that's why I'm posting these things so I don't fail, so it doesn't go bad. So I promote—
in a sense, I want to push myself to become better by telling you that that's what I'm gonna do. And then it's out there, it's on YouTube. And if I don't do it, then everybody knows I suck.
So I don't want that to happen.
So this is a big part. So I'll invite you guys, make a list. What are the changes you want to make in life? What are the changes you want to make in business? You have a business goal, a certain amount of leads or sales. That's awesome. Now let's reverse engineer that without all the fluff and all the people who have $100 million and the people who sold. Just you and me.
What are we going to do?
You can leave it in the comments. What are you going to do? By when? What are your struggles? What do you need? How can we help one another? And if I can help you, I'll be happy. This is my one-shot update. And thank you for being here, guys, and, and keep rocking. And if you need anything, let me know, and I'll see you on the next Building in Public. Have a great week, everyone.
