Nir Zavaro explains how to test if your technical story works: pitch it to three people, a peer engineer, a venture capitalist, and a stranger at a bar. If the stranger doesn't say "That's amazing, tell me more," your story needs work. The bar test reveals whether you've found the genuinely interesting part.

If you can't explain it to a stranger in a bar in a way that they say, oh, this is amazing. I'd love to hear more, or I'm interested, or I know someone, your story is not good. Write your pitch, same pitch in 3 different levels. Number one, engineer talks to an engineer. You talk to someone at your level, a professional from your industry niche. He understands everything. Secondly, an engineer talks to what we call a VC, someone who might be more from the industry, not necessarily a pro like you, doesn't necessarily understand all the technical details. And lastly, An engineer talks to a stranger in a bar. That's what takes us back to introverts, techie people. If you can't explain it to a stranger in a bar in a way that they say, oh, this is amazing, I'd love to hear more, or I'm interested, or I know someone, your story is not good.
