Building a social media presence

This is a YouTube video titled "Building a social media presence" created in December 2024. The content is a detailed instructional talk focused on how businesses, particularly in the beauty industry, can intentionally build and maintain a meaningful social media presence aligned with their business goals. The speaker guides viewers through understanding the purpose of social media beyond just posting, emphasizing trust-building, consistent engagement, and strategic content creation to attract clients and grow income. The format is a monologue without multiple speakers.
So we've got our social media accounts set up and we've started thinking about how we want to use them. But let's dive a little bit deeper into what it actually means to build a presence on social media. Because having a strong presence is so much more than just posting photos. It's about showing up intentionally in a way that actually supports your unique business goals. Because there is no point in spending a loads of time on social media if it's not actually moving you towards your goals. So first things first, I want you to take a minute to think about what is your your business goal? Are you a nail tech, wanting to grow a client base? Are you about to open a salon and you want to use social media for people to get excited about your new space? Or maybe you are looking to expand your reach beyond clients, maybe to create educational content or work with brands down the line. Now, whatever your goal, I want you to start to keep that in mind and keep it at the heart of how you show up on social media. For from this point, every post, every story, every comment, it all connects back to what you're working towards. So what actually is a social media presence? Essentially, it is how you show up consistently in a way that keeps your business visible, trusted, and also just top of people's minds. So your presence isn't about the numbers and it's also not about getting thousands of followers. It's about making meaningful connections that add value to your business, whether that's in client bookings, in brand partnerships and building a community. So let me say, for example, that your goal right now is to bring in more clients. Having a strong social media presence means creating content that speaks directly to those people who could come along and be your potential clients. That would mean showing off your work with high quality images of your nails, sharing client testimonials, or maybe even talking about the experience that they can expect when they book in with you. So you're painting a whole picture of what you offer and you're giving them a reason to choose you when they scroll across your page. Or maybe like another example, your goal might be to increase your income. So social media can absolutely help you to do that as well. You can highlight premium services, you can talk about what makes them special, and you can even use things like stories or reels to give potential clients a look behind the scenes. Sometimes just actually showing people the why behind your services, like for example, why your luxury pedicure maybe makes people feel on top of the world when they leave your space, can just help people Understand exactly why they need it and also help people to value what you offer just from looking at your account. And remember, your presence is also about building trust. So imagine a new client comes across your page for the very first time. You have one chance to build a lasting impression. They'll scroll through your feed, maybe they'll read a couple of your posts and they might check out a couple of the comments underneath them. All of this gives them a sense of who you are and whether or not they can trust you with the service that they want. Every single post you put up adds a little bit more to that trust. And over time, that is what helps people to feel confident when they are choosing a nail tech. Now, building a social media presence is a journey and it doesn't need to be. In fact, I said it before, it's never ever going to be perfect from the start. So think of it a bit like nature and a friendship. So. So just like you get to know someone over time, your audience is getting to know you through the little snippets of the things that you share. Through your style, through your personality, through the way that you talk, the way that you communicate, the skills that you show. Don't feel pressured to create perfect in every piece of content. Just focus on showing up in a way that feels true to you, that shows you in your joy and it reflects the experience that you offer. And here's an important reminder. Social media is just a tool. It is not a measure or a validation of your success. If a post doesn't get engagement, it's not a reflection of your talent or your worth. Building a presence is about testing and learning. It's about figuring out what resonates with your audience and what doesn't. Because let's face it, not everything will. You're not going to get it right first time. The more you see it just as an exploration or as every post as a bit of a test, the easier and the more fun it is going to become. When you are detached from that outcome and you just focused on showing up, that is when you will start to see real growth on social media. So here's a quick exercise before our next lesson. I want you to just take a minute to jot down what your business goal is. So whether that's growing your client base, increasing your income, or something else completely. And then knowing now what you know about social media, I want you to list out the ways that it could help you to work towards that goal. So if it's more clients, think about what a potential client would want to see or know about you. If it's your income, maybe you want to showcase the premium services or how you add value to your client's life. Remember, we will head into strategy later on in this program, so don't worry too much about that right now. But this exercise is just going to give you a bit more clarity on your next steps, and it's also just going to help you feel a bit more intentional with every post that you post from here. Now, this journey is about building something real, something meaningful, and something that is aligned with what you actually want from your business. So let's keep going and I will see you in the next lesson.
