Create a simplified content strategy

Lauren breaks down a three-step content strategy for creators: stick to three types of in-feed posts (talent showcase, personal stories, viral series), keep a pinned list of story prompts to beat blank-page panic, and build repeatable habits like tagging brands and banking content during client sessions. The goal is consistency without overwhelm.

So let's get into step two, which is creating a simplified content strategy in three easy stages. I mentioned before, I think we over complicate things when it comes to content and it doesn't need to be that way. As I mentioned. Why do we always do that? Maybe it's because we get overwhelmed. There's probably tons of you nodding right now because I totally get it. I think content can be really overwhelming as well. We get distracted by everyone else. If you think about how much content we are consuming as individuals day to day as we're scrolling through our feed, it's very easy to get sidetracked or see someone else do something and think you need to do exactly the same. Maybe it's because we struggle with ideas. And I get it because if we're supposed to be posting on socials a few times a week, maybe even daily, maybe even twice a day, like there's really. It can be hard work to constantly come up with ideas but. But again, we can totally simplify that. Maybe it's because we don't know what's going to perform. And I think especially if you're really new to creating content and especially with the whole brand partnership thing, it can be really daunting understanding whether the algorithm is going to be on your side, whether people are going to like your content, whether the music's going to work. Maybe it's because we're a victim of comparison. I can absolutely raise my hand with this, but I think sometimes I've been so paralyzed because I haven't wanted to post because it's not as good as, I don't know, Becky, who's got 20,000 more followers than me? Not as good. Then my perfectionism comes into it. Maybe it's because, as I mentioned, we're perfectionists and content never ever feels good enough. Maybe it's because we're worried about outside judgment. I again, totally get this. Maybe you've got family members who just don't get the whole social media thing and it feels really scary putting yourself out there. I got you. I just want to say I got you. We all feel like this and I can imagine there's tons of you watching this and you can totally agree. So let's create something simple and reliable, something you can lean on and come back to all the time. So your simplified content strategy in three easy steps coming in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. 1. Step 1 Stick to three types of in feed content only. Now you're probably thinking, what? Lauren? How is that even possible? I promise you, sticking to Three types of content only is really going to help you out if you are feeling any of those ways that we just spoke about. So type 1 content is the content that's going to showcase your talent. Type 2 content is going to be the you content that's going to be focused on you, which again might feel a little bit scary. But I promise you, people invest in people and type three is going to be the viral opportunity. So let's dive in and have a look at what type one looks like. So type one showcasing your talent is the savable content, the design inspo, the ones that we've all saved because we want to show our nail techs this design so they can recreate it. These might be some nail transformation videos, they might be nail trend videos, they might be now how to videos or even carousels of some of your favorite summer nows over the last three years. Type 2 content is the you content. So as I mentioned, people and brands buy into people and then the product and service. Now I want you to really remember this because this is so important. Whenever it comes to anything that I'm selling, I always think about how I'm selling myself first or how I'm coming across to people before even think about the product or whatever it is that I am recommending or selling. So don't forget to show the human behind your brand or your business. These are the opportunities to build connections. They are an opportunity to celebrate the success that you're having and get other people invested in that too. And celebrating your success with you. This is an opportunity to like share achievements and some of the ways you can do this. And some of the types of content ideas are story time content, daily vlogs, a day in the life content style video, inspirational posts, and weekly recap carousels. These are all really building that connection with you and your audience. And I want to just kind of say here is like this really builds that community element versus just people following you because they're following you. And the type 3 content is the viral opportunity. So this is where you can create a series. And the series are great because they give you the opportunity to go viral. And if someone finds a video and they see it's part of a series, they then want to go back and binge the whole series. So as you can see, one of the things that I did which really got my followers up on TikTok was plus size girl problems. Now I'm on part 15. But I tell you, once those first two videos or three videos started getting traction, I got More and more people following me, looking at my plus size girl problems, going back, binge watching the whole series. And as you can see, this is something that Amy has absolutely taken advantage of as well. So mistakes I made as a nail tech and starting from scratch. So here's some ideas that you can do. You can do summer nail designs and you can do that again. Split it into like part 1, 2, 3, 4, however many you want to do nail care tips. And again you can split that down. So you could just do one tip per video. Again, you just want to really caveat and make sure that it's super clear that it's part of the series. I love the idea of having what my clients asked for versus what they received because the thing is, you guys are constantly getting inspirational pictures and you are constantly being asked to do certain designs and I think you're always getting clients right? That is never ending. That's a series that's never going to finish. Inspo versus reality trying out nail viral nail trends, educational content, controversial topics as well. Maybe you even feel like you want to share client horror stories or client nail stories or nail horror stories. There's so many opportunities here. Step two, Create a. Create some. Go to story prompts and questions. So you've just got all of your in feed content sorted out there in three easy content types. Now we're going to be thinking about stories, right? Because everyone's a bit like I don't know how to sharpen stories all the time. And we've all had those what on earth should I post moments, right? Especially when it comes to stories. Because I think a lot of people show face to camera and that can be a bit scary and that can be a bit daunting. So I want you to fire up the notes section in your phone and I want you to pin this note so you can come back to it again and again and again because you're never ever going to forget now what to post on stories. So for the what should I post moments, I want you to write this down. What's on your agenda this week? Today. So these prompts and questions are essentially these are going to be asked to you. So you know that now this is something that you can talk about in your stories. You can share what's on your agenda this week or today. And you can remember to incorporate brands here. For example, I just ordered a ton of colors for from this now brand and tag them. And the thing is this is something you can post every single day. Every single day Introduction to you talk about you, your business, why you do what you do, that essentially there's a bit of a cheat there because there's a few different options within the introduction to you. And you can talk about your why, you can talk about why you started this, how you got started, how long you've been doing it. Maybe it's something that you are doing on the side of another job. Like these are so many things that you can talk about forever and ever because you are the person that knows this information the most. What now designs have you been loving this week? And maybe this is like a really amazing way to, to big up the girls within this membership and this community. Maybe there's a guy that you love and you love the guy that the you love the designs that he's been putting out. This is an opportunity to showcase like this amazing guy of an Altech. Maybe this is an opportunity to showcase your own designs and maybe you've got a nail art of the day or a nail art of the week or a nail set of the week. What brands have you been loving this month? Again, this is a really great opportunity to tag brands, start a relationship with them, talk about, maybe you could share some of their content and maybe give some context to it. Why do you love a nail color that they bought out? Or why do you love a post on their page? Or maybe it's a new product that you've discovered. What's something you've achieved this week, this month, this year? I think we all find it really scary to big ourselves up. Like, we all kind of want to be modest, but talking about your achievements and sharing them and shouting out about them only gets people invested in you more and they buy into you. Because here's the proof in the pudding. You are good at what you do because you achieve this thing. And client success. Story time. I love this. Maybe it's that a client's nails were an absolute sham before they came to you. Maybe you've used all of OPI's products to strengthen them and they're amazing now. Or maybe bio sculptures, colors and the ability that you have to design something amazing on those nails has really given this client a whole360 experience. Step three, I want you to create and stick to content habits. I know it's super hard to stay consistent, especially if you're super busy, but there are some really simple content habits that we can put in place to make this whole thing a lot easier and way more streamlined. So tag and feature your dream brand list regularly. And this is why it's so important for that worksheet that you wrote down with your dream brands on. This is the perfect time to have that pin somewhere. So you're regularly looking at it and you know, okay, I need to make sure that I am including this brand in my content this week. Use brands consistently to stay authentic. We've obviously covered the importance of being authentic, but if you are mentioning tons of different brands who all do exactly the same thing, that's not going to be that authentic. So make sure if you've got like a brand that you use all the time, talk about it all the time, be really consistent with that communication in your content. Showing up consistently. What commitment can you make to yourself and pencil in your diary? I know it may seem hard because you are super busy with clients, but can you pencil in 20, 30 minutes a day before you start your first client at 9am or 10am and say within this, within this time I'm going to post three, three story frames using those prompts or questions and I'm going to save some content inspiration and then maybe can you pencil some time in your diary to actually create the content? Build an incredible community relationship what does this look like to you? For me, it's replying to comments, creating a conversation. If someone leaves a comment underneath your post, ask them a question back. Get that conversation going. Making sure that you're answering your DMs and not leaving people on read. These things are like super, super important and it really builds trust between them and you make shooting content part of your routine. I know this seems a little bit crazy, but content actually doesn't have to be that difficult when it comes to filming. Use the clients that you have to your advantage and shoot with them as much as you can. You can literally get a tripod set up and just press the plate, the record button and then you've got content banked to then go back and edit. Have a creator set up at your station. So what I mean by this is having a content creator station almost ready to go. Keep your light and your tripod at the ready so you don't forget. You can literally have a tripod right next to your desk so you are reminded every time you get up. I need to put that in place. Time to scroll I think sometimes blocking time out in the diary to scroll and save inspirational content is literally the wor the best thing that you can do because it's going to help you plan ahead so much. And especially once you've nailed down the three different types of content that you're going to be posting in that really simplified content strategy. You then can have a look at that inspirational folder on your Instagram or TikTok or whatever platform you're using and come back to it and think, do you know what? That piece of content is so great. I just need to tweak it a little bit, change the messaging, obviously have my content and I can make it right for me. So it's like you're taking inspiration from someone else, but you've completely innovated it to make it right for you.
