Social media set up

A nail technician walks through how to use social media to grow your client base. She covers building a real presence, making genuine connections, and treating it as a business tool rather than something personal.
It's time to dive into one of my favorite parts of building and growing a business. And that is social media. Now, social media is hands down the most powerful tool that you have right now to connect with your potential clients. Definitely one of them. You can showcase your work, you can market yourself, you can build a community around your brand, and you can do this all for free. Now, I want you to think about this. So someone in your area is scrolling on Instagram, maybe even right now, looking for a new nail tech. Now imagine they type in gel nails or B app nails, add their hometown and then boom, your page pops up, showing them your best work, your vibe, and also giving them a taste of what they can expect when they sit in your chair. How amazing is that? And the best part of it is that it's free. So it is such a bonus when you are building or growing your business. But let's be real, social media can also be a little bit overwhelming. I get that, especially at first. It's like it's this big exciting world that everyone is on and it's so easy to feel like you need thousands of followers to make an impact. But I'll tell you a little secret. You do not need huge numbers to have a successful social media presence. What really matters when it comes to social media is that you are creating meaningful connections. Every single follower is someone who is interested in your work, someone who you could help with your services, and someone who has stepped into your world. So I don't care if you have one follower, 100 followers, a thousand followers, or a million followers, every single follower matters. Now, social media isn't just about sharing pretty pictures, although that's definitely a part of it. It's also about creating a welcoming space where potential clients can see who you are with what you offer and also just feel excited to book an appointment with you. It's where people get to see your expertise and also start to build trust with you even before they have met you. So think of your social media a bit like a digital extension of your salon. It's your opportunity to create a little community around your brand. One that makes clients feel connected to you before they've even sat in your chair or stepped foot through your salon door. Now, let's also keep this a little bit fun and a little bit light hearted. Social media at the end of the day is a journey and you probably in fact know you definitely won't get it perfect from day one. It's about experimentation, it's about finding your flow, celebrating every small win, whether that is your first post, your first comment from a new follower, or just actually knowing that your profile has gone live and you're ready to greet potential clients. And a really, really important note, one that I wish I had been told sooner. Social media is just a marketing tool. It is not something that you should take personally. So if a post doesn't perform well, it doesn't mean that you're not talented, it doesn't mean that your nails are rubbish, and it doesn't mean that your business isn't amazing. It just simply means that you are learning what works and what doesn't. On an app, on a social media platform or on an algorithm, this is all completely normal. The more you can detach yourself and detach your emotions and just start to approach social media like a bit of a game of discovery, if you like, then the easier and the faster it is going to be to find what resonates with your clients and to hit your goals. So here's a quick task for you before the next lesson. I want you to open up Instagram, Facebook or a platform of your choice and I want you to search for nail tech and your area or gel nails and your area. So, for example, gel nails Manchester or gel nails London, for example. See who pops up first and have a little scroll through. Notice what they're doing that stands out. Are they using specific hashtags or keywords in the captions? Which profiles are making you want to instantly click on them? And also, why? Now, this isn't about comparison, it's about inspiration. You're getting a feel for what works, understanding how you can add your own unique touch to make your profile stand out, and just understanding what you actually like about social media. You're creating something amazing when you are creating your own social media account. So I am actually really excited for you and for this next step. So we're going to dive into social media together. We're going to do it all in the coming lessons and we're also going to make your online presence something that you are truly proud of.
