First-person account (in Spanish) from a YouTube interview in which the narrator—Alberto Peláez—describes a traumatic 2003 episode. He recounts waiting for a phone call (at 5:03 / 5:05), answering a call from a man with an Arabic-accented English who said “I’m the painter,” and being instructed to be at a pickup point called “Edge” at 7:00 AM. He and Juan leave passports in a fortified barracks, cross about 200 metres of no man’s land amid explosions and gunfire, see old yellow Mercedes cars, and are suddenly overpowered, blindfolded and put into a vehicle—leading him to think he had been kidnapped and that a collaborator named Charlie had betrayed him.
