This is a podcast-style YouTube interview (Roberto Martínez and Oso Trava) that recounts the origins and cultural impact of early YouTube creators, centering on the Vlogbrothers (two brothers who began a weekly video-exchange project in 2007 when they separated geographically). The speakers discuss John Green (mentioning his novel Looking for Alaska and a later non-fiction book), early fandom behaviors (audiences shouting "good morning"), contemporaries like Philip DeFranco, and the early shift toward monetization through YouTube’s partner program. The tone is nostalgic and reflective about entering the platform early.
Chapters
There are some called the Block Brothers that are still relevant to this day. In fact, you have a book by.
John Green that I'm glad to see.
It's poetic to see a book by.
John Green that I've been inspired to read for most of his books.
Which ones? It's the Anthropos in reviewed, right? A very good book. It's the first book he's published that's not fiction. The rest are novels. So these guys start in 2007. They're two brothers. I think they lived in Montana or I don't know what part of the United States.
And John Green was going to move to Indianapolis.
So they were two very close brothers who were going to separate geographically. So they started this project where they said, look, in order not to lose communication, we're going to do a project.
Where we're each going to upload a video a week telling each other what.
We'Re doing this week directed at the other brother. So we're going to set strict rules.
Where we won't be able to communicate.
By text, we won't be able to call each other.
The only way to communicate is going.
To be a video. So I remember that I started seeing that, and it seemed like a badass project. I mean, I started seeing it, like halfway through the project, that half of 2007, and I threw myself into it and said, this has potential to grow, man. At that time, he had released his first book, which was called Looking for Alaska, and he saw how his auditoriums were starting to fill up because people.
Were starting to become fans of his content.
I understood that this guy is growing his career, doctor.
Because he's doing an online project. And you could see why the guy documented his conferences. And he would start the videos by saying, good morning.
And the whole audience would shout good morning. Because they were committed to that project. For example, there's a guy named Philip Franco who to this day continues to make news content. At that time, his channel was called S Sexy Field.
And he was also a guy in.
Pajamas making news videos. At that time, he inspired me a lot because my content was very similar to his. And I remember that I had, I don't know, 100,000 views, 80,000 views. And I was like, this guy makes a living from this monetizing brands, but this guy makes a living from that. So I kind of realized that I was entering early.
And also because of the experience I.
Had of seven years making videos, I knew I was well prepared to be able to catch this wave in time right then and Apart from that, I really liked it.
It was what I did in my free time without earning money.
I said, well, what better way to give it my all? And I took it up as a hobby. And that's what I was drawn to. Later I began to realize that there was already a partner program. You apply.
