Testing Lovable then Designing New Features

The host and collaborators test Lovable and Base44, two AI code generators, then design a new meal-planner feature for We Eat Great with scheduleable meals, shopping list integration, and calendar or list views.

All right, we are live and direct. Maybe, maybe it's not. Oh nope, excellent. I guess we are live and direct now. Okay, so what are we doing today? Let's test out Lovable. Oh, I want to try out— I want to try fixing my mic. So you guys see I have some headphones on today. Are they on the right side?
Yeah, right, right and left.
Let me— I'm going to change the output here because when I was listening to it before, it was not very loud, especially compared to the, to the, um, the other thing. What was the other thing? The, the actual input from the computer. Okay, so now I have this on. Use device timestamps. I'm not sure what that is. I don't know if it's louder. It looks like it's louder. I mean, I'm in like— I'm in the green, it gets to the yellow. So we'll try this, but I'm now using my microphone, uh, this one right here for the, the audio. So we will see. This is annoying that it's like rubbing against me.
But what are we gonna do? Does this change anything?
This changes the nothing.
Okay, cool.
And then I have, uh, anything like— I guess that's coming out, I can change to go through here, but it's going to the speakers. I don't think that really matters. Let's see if I go through headphones. Sure, I mean, I'm not going to play anything, so I could try. Let's see. Let's see, let's see if it actually comes through or not. Mm-hmm.
How do I move this? Move this song. Move to workspace. Dad Mixes. Okay, there's another one.
I'm not hearing it.
Is the audio set to the right spot? Yeah.
Did I turn the volume down?
Yep, there it is.
Okay, so we got nothing coming out of the—
there we go.
It seems like I'm still softer, so I can All right, now let's— let me go to the stream and see if that—
how that sounds. I'm sure there'll be like a delay.
All right, now let's— let me go to the stream and see if that— how that sounds.
Stream.
Let me go to— all right, now let's— let me go to the stream and see if that— there we go. It seems like I'm still softer, so I can— oh, I turned that down. It's real low. All right, now let's— let me go to the stream and see if that— how that that sounds. Okay, there'll be like a delay.
Cool.
On my side it's like super loud. I guess I could turn it down here. Okay, so let's do Lovable. Also Base44 though. Like so many of these. Okay, so started. Nice onboarding. That was kind of cool. Okay, so I want to build a meal planner. Oh, Ninjitzu, my boy, what's up? I hope you're well, man. Thanks for stopping by, always appreciate it. Appreciate the engagement.
Okay, we got an idea.
Build meal planner. Should allow schedule. Let's just see what happens here. I want to add anything. Designs. What is design? Not available in your plan. Design systems, that's kind of cool. Might need to look into that or check that out. Connectors, MCP servers, might be able to connect to Figma's MCP, maybe. Database, that's kind of cool. Uh-oh, wait, need to change this. I'm updating the logo currently. Yeah, yeah, well, I have an app. I'm building a new feature and I'm testing multiple of these, uh, these products, these AI, AI, uh, builders. Hey, what is this? A lot of credits. Just start signed up and I'm out of credits. Okay, um, oh cool, I get two choices. Yeah, if you're interested in my app, it's called We Eat Great, or just weeatgreat.com is the URL, and it's a social recipe and recommendation platform. Need to update a lot of this because at the time it was just recipes, but you know, working on, on more stuff. Show you the authenticated version here. Oh, we see Sean added something, and he gave me some good input on like the logo looking too much like wheat, which makes the URL look like wheat greet. And I agree, this, this should be we eat. You know, in my, my input, I've gotten a lot of like questions and thoughts about that. But so we have different things here. This is the feed, which is, you know, social. Sean added all this stuff, looks great. Yeah, some input around rating, right? Rating doesn't really make sense, but you can see on my profile you can have posts, which are, you know, you went somewhere and wanted to post and talk about it. Um, you can go to to cooking and see recipes or cookbooks. You have your, uh, your recipes, you have saved recipes, or a whole cookbook, which is essentially a list of recipes, right?
Desserts—
I don't have anything in it. And then orders, which are things you may order. So for example, like, what does Ritzy get at In-N-Out? 2 double meats, ketchup only. You know what it is. So I can like send this to someone one and they can, uh, you know, I don't have to like try to type them the, the whole order and all that. Um, or if you're trying to figure out what to eat, right? Sometimes I go here, I'm like, oh, what should we have? Oh, Benihana's looks good. BJ's is solid. I should probably get that tonight. That's probably looking like the plan now that I say that. Laurel Tavern got the steak frites, never bad. You know, just, just kind of like a reminder and stuff like that. And then when you post, like say I need some inspiration, right? I can look at this and oh, this looks really good. And if you, you can connect recipes and stuff to it so that you can see. Let's see, does this have one? Yeah. So this, oh, this looks pretty good. And I can see the order's connected to it, the Granville order. What is it? Okay, the Granville skirt steak and the Caesar salad. Trying to solve what should we eat. Now I want to add meal planning to this this. So I'm testing out some of these other, other things to see. Now I currently— okay, let's see what— let's compare these. Ninjitz, if I can, please send me some music to play in the background or something. Like, I should probably— I should probably drop your, uh, I should play your My Favorite One. Hold on, hold on, I'm about to play this right now if you don't mind. Actually, let me text you to make sure you're okay with me playing it. I'm gonna play— I was gonna play Ian's Odyssey. Um, I'll show you how down packed I have this. This is such a— this song is such a banger to me. I'll show you how much, but let me, you know, I'm gonna text you.
I wanna—
I wanna I don't know how to spell Odyssey, dude. Okay, there we go. I think that's right. All right, cool. Okay, watch, watch how down-packed I have this. So I go here, I go to, uh, I, I listen to it on SoundCloud. Yes, yes, yes. I never do this on the, um On the computer. Is this my, my thing? Hold on, I don't know if you sent me some stuff. If so, I don't know where. I kind of just go from here.
I don't, I don't, um, because it's easier, I guess.
I don't really use YouTube that much for our music.
Where is my Library account.
Library, it's got to be library. Okay, here's my—
what's my email address on this? I see my— that I just can't find my email address on here. It's got to be here, right?
Oh, now I'm down a path of, uh, yeah, please do, please do, Ian. I would not mind having a little background, background Ian work.
Oh, I found, found it. James the Lion.
That's the one.
Hmm. Okay, let's see.
Once I get this on, I can play Ian's Odyssey.
I'm hoping these are the same accounts.
Are they? Yes, they are. Okay, let me go to my likes. Let me figure out how to get to my likes. Yep, right here, my likes. I go to Ian's Odyssey right here. Look, I can tell you from here it's about right here. Nope, nope, too far. Right here. Yep, yep, yep. What joint? Get the transition. Hear that? Hear that buildup?
Mm-hmm.
The OG is nice. This is fire. There's a part where you take out the— like, you take out some instruments out and it's like just drums. Oh, it slaps.
Right there.
So fire, so fire. Sometimes you just, you throw stuff at the wall and it makes a miracle. Nick circles back. I don't know, I just love it. I was listening to this and I got this, I was like, damn son, where'd you find this? Okay, so, hmm, this is cool. Like, this is a cool design. Let me show you the comparables I had.
So what was it?
AI Studio. Twilight Princess, we were literally running around daily to find, like, straight up daily, every day. Hey, do you guys have a wheat? Hey, do you guys have a wheat? Every day. So you see, we're getting a similar layout here. Um, now I'm going to look up this while we do this, but I, I do want to see how easy it is to publish a project. What the last time?
Um, hello?
Oh, I need to publish it.
Yeah, that's cool.
This is easy publish. Response behavior is okay. Definitely has the watermark, but sure. I assume that'd come off with paid. Hey, this is so much better with music, I'm not gonna lie.
Uh, let's take a look at the code. So it defaulted to TX. TypeScript, all in JavaScript.
All right, that was cool. Let's try Base 44. I've heard good things about Base 44. I did stop listening to music like completely, and I, um, like just straight up when I was driving, it was all, all podcasts, all YouTube videos, like it was just straight like educational content. But I Man, I'm not gonna lie, that's not great on your mental. Um, you need like music and stuff to— for your mental health. Like, helps you vibe, helps you get in the mood. Okay, um, yeah, like you just become more robotic and then like inspirationally, or like, you know, you just don't, you just don't like, your mood is different. You don't have like the art kind of flowing and you don't have, I don't know, I think, I think music is, is really good for, for really kind of tailoring how you want to, want to, what mood you want to be in, right? Like if you want to be in more of a fast pace, like you can listen to music like that, it gets your adrenaline adrenaline pumping and gets you hyped, um, or if you want to be chill because you, you want to stay smooth, like you have an interview, are you talking to somebody, like that's why you need something light ambiance, you know, something like that. So I agree, I think it really affects your, your up here. Okay, so let's create a new platform. We need to So this has a plan mode, so probably kind of like— oh, toggle it on and off. I didn't realize that was toggle on and off. You can attach files. Let's see, automatic match with that model. So you can select models, which is kind of cool.
Let's just see what happens.
There's a preview dashboard code. Feels like it's taking longer than Lovable.
Read all the components and pages. Cool.
Sick of the ads.
Hmm.
Got a good rhythm to you right here. Yeah, got a good rhythm.
Did you?
I, uh, you know, I talked to my dad a lot about music, right? Because that's, that's his thing. And I think that one thing, like, people I'm getting get the storyline of the music. Like how you have— I'm sure you have some memory of how you created this song, you know, like you said, like at your grandma's house. And I think you got to get the— you got to put that context out there. You do a little, this is how I felt, this is what I was doing. All right, Ian, it's good talking to you, man. I'll be in your stream soon. Thank you for putting the catalog together. I need some of this background music It's, it's something worth, uh, you see, you see I'm not doing nothing, so you know I need it. I need that.
Let me vibe.
Dang, Bass44, how long we going to be here? All day? All right, I see movement. Dang, that's like the same thing. It did add more, like a shopping list and a meal planner. Similar layout. They all like to break out breakfast, lunch, and dinner for, for their meal plans.
Now, who, who did I see that did it differently?
I saw like a reference. Okay, so we tried Base44. Let's see how Publish works. A mobile app, interesting. Sí, how about this? Yeah, yeah, 350 tracks, perfect. As long as I can— I can say I like this one, you know. In case you guys are interested, I, uh, I've got a whole Discord where I like document these notes and share stuff. Let's see, did it build it JSX? This build is straight JSX, so I'm assuming we're in React here.
Yep.
What was lovable? TSX. Yeah, so this did react. This is cool. Um, it's funny that it gave me almost the exact same layout as Lovable's. Here, I'll show you Lovable's again, and then I'll go to the, uh, so you can see her Like, to the T, watch. Same layout, similar font selection. This one might be better because it has the meals planned. This has the date, but this has a date here. I like this date selection better, and then the default back to today, that's much better. This just gave me this, while this gave me recipes and a shopping list too, which is nice. Let's actually add meals. So now I can see quick add and from library. I I like that a lot. Yeah, I definitely like Base 44 more than Lovable. About equally as easy. Cool. So yeah, that was that. Now let's design some, uh, do some design. Um, I do need to design the meal plan. I'm going to start with Web.
Our bundle.
So this is like one product, it looks like. That was the saved recipes. 7 shifts.
Mhm.
Well, I wouldn't have guessed this is a meal plan at all. We're getting some tabs together here.
Notion.
Okay, okay, it's probably looking up stuff with plan. So let's see, can we ask sites?
No.
Feel like they're showing me Blue Apron quite a bit. Are they trying to tell me something? No plan. Oh, setting up zip code, adding an item to the cart, meal detail. Let's see what a meal detail looks like. Choose your servings. Yeah, so to me this is like one recipe. Yeah, okay, this is not the one. Let's see what this is. Definitely not. Instacart. This card I should probably look at just in general because I do plan on connecting. HelloFresh, maybe. I feel like they select their meals too. Is that it?
Oh no. Okay, okay.
Sweetgreen. Green, paste the OpenTable. Okay, so let's do this. And now we have Claude, so we might as well try that too. We can compare outputs. CNN underscore. Let's check out Samsung Food. Hm, put it on a different tab over here. Okay, so it does a day. You can just add something to it, or you can go in more depth and just have breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner. Mm, it's got that Kingdom Hearts vibe, lowkey.
Mm.
Let's see what they say. It is much of a safe atmosphere. That's kind of cool. I, I'm really enjoying this onboarding, uh, which we might need later for like tailoring. That's really nice. A lot right now. Oh, this is kind of cool where you can set your meals. I like that. I gotta write that down.
This is cool, you can rearrange it. So like, I like something like this.
Okay, so what are we looking at here? What are we looking at here, huh? What are we looking at? So we got today, looking at today's own news. Let's go to week view.
We also do news like this. Tomorrow. You can tell me all about Zanarkand. Zanarkand. If that bond is strong enough, its light will conquer sin. Okay, okay. So when you're looking at day, it's going to ask you like, do you want— breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I like this. Copy meals. Let me search.
Wait, they don't know that's what that is. You go here. You can add a meal. Add food. Let's say for breakfast I want— but these are like ingredients. Okay, that's cool. That's a meal. Thank you, guys. Stack.
Let's look at the weekly now. Oh, that's terrible. Okay, good reference though. I'll save this.
Okay. There is nothing The final summons will be yours.
Like the same every time, huh?
Ready? Ready. That's cool, it actually made one.
See, I wonder, is it about to, uh, you know, function? It does! This is crazy, they coded this.
YouTube.
So funny, when looking at something before, you know, I was thinking about— because this is doing it, a lot of them do it this way, right? Horizontal.
You get stuff like this, and realistically, like you saw, it looks more like this, right?
Because it's a Google recipe. So I want to do something different. Let me see if I can share this drawing. Okay, so what I'm thinking here, obviously we can go this way, but we potentially can also go stack something this way.
It's coming.
Something, something more like this real quick. So you have the day and it's more of a list item because breakfast is going to have a couple different, maybe a couple different recipes, maybe not, maybe just one. Same for lunch, same for dinner. And then there'll be like an add recipe here or add meal here on the day. And it's, it's stacked. So I'm, I'll probably start with something like that just because going this way, yeah, it gives that calendar feel, but it's confusing. So that's cool, that's cool. Anyway, thanks for hanging out everyone. I'm going to, uh, stop today. Uh, we got through Lovable and Base44 in terms of AI builders, and then we started designing the meal planner for, for we
