2017 Riverton MDT Musical Review 1

The transcript documents the 2017 Riverton MEG (Music & Theatre) Broadway Revue, a school‑produced showcase that blends introductions, acknowledgments, and a sequence of musical numbers drawn from a wide spectrum of Broadway and off‑Broadway works. The program opens with a historical note on the 1975 production of The Wiz, thanks the guest director Mr. Kelly Dahan, and then moves through student‑performed excerpts from The Wiz, Miss Saigon, an original Off‑Broadway comedy, original student‑written songs, Buddy the Elf, Titanic, Phantom of the Opera, Waitress, Hamilton, and other shows. Each segment lists cast members (e.g., Jessica Woolley as Ruth, Tate Morgan as Gaby, Logan Johnson as Hamilton), provides lyrical snippets, and includes stage directions or commentary. The overall purpose is to demonstrate the students’ vocal and acting abilities, expose them to diverse theatrical styles, and celebrate community support for the school’s music‑theatre program.
Chapters
On Broadway in January of 1975, running for a little over 4 years, The Wiz is a story about a schoolteacher, Dorothy, who is visiting her family in Harlem for Thanksgiving and seems to not be grateful for much. However, after chasing her dog, Toto, she is caught in a snowstorm and transported to the Land of Oz, where she is enlightened that her only chance of getting home is to see the Great Wizard in Emerald City. After Dorothy kills the Wicked Witch to complete her quest, the city comes together to celebrate. Choreographed by Corey Stevens, the RHS NDT class proudly presented "Brand New Day" from the 2015 NBC Live Production of "The Wiz." Hello and welcome to the 2017 MEG Broadway Revue, Brand New Day. We'd like to thank you all for coming to support us, but we'd like to give a special thanks to Mr. Kelly Dahan. Mr. Dahan is an award-winning choir director at West Jordan High School, a frequent director and performer at Hale Center Theatre, and a great supporter of the M&T program here at Riverton. Every year we look forward to working with Mr. DeHaan on a group number that we'll perform for you later tonight. Thank you so much, Mr. DeHaan, for always supporting us, and we hope you all enjoy "Brand New Day." Ruth, played by Jessica Woolley, and Eileen, played by Abby Hollinger, dream of going back to Ohio in the song "Ohio." Ruth, now, Eileen, everything will be all right. It's awful. Never mind, Eileen, just try to sleep. I can't sleep. Try, darling, make your mind to blink. I did. I keep thinking of Ohio. Oh, Eileen, me too. Oh, why, oh, why did I ever leave Ohio? Why did I wander to find love lies yonder when life was so cozy at home? Wandering while I wander, why did I fly? Why did I roam? Oh, why, oh, why, oh, did I leave Ohio? Maybe I'd better go away, child. Maybe we'd better go home. Now listen, Eileen. Ohio was stifling. We just couldn't wait to get out of that place. Ma saved real money on paper this evening. If Pop was with Eileen, you'd be home here by 10. This gossiping neighbor's always yapping who's going with who. And dating those drunks on a hillside porch. Who won his club dance. On the basketball court. Ma, the villagers are insane. What a pretty violet on earth. Why did we fly? Why did we roam? Oh my Ohio, did we leave Ohio? Maybe we better go away, child. Maybe we better go —at the Broadway Theatre in April of 1991. Miss Saigon is a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alan Menken, with lyrics by Menken and Richard Baldry Jr. Miss Saigon tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American G.I. lover. The song we do— like all survivors, I once thought when I'm home I won't give it down. Oh no, I know I'm caught. I'll never leave Vietnam. Over when it ends, some pictures that leave your mind. They are the faces of the children, the ones we left behind. They're called the dust of life, conceived in hell and born from They are the living reminder of all the good we failed to do. Because we know in our hearts that they are all our children too. These kids hit walls on every side. They don't belong in any place. Their spirit can't hide. It's printed on their face. Painted on their face. I never thought one day I'd plead for half-breeds from a land that's sworn. But then I saw camp for children whose crime was being born. Their holy blood, the dust of life, conceived in hell. And in boarding strife, we owe them fathers and a family, a loving home they never knew. Because we know deep in our hearts that they're all our children too. These are souls in need. They need us to give. Someone has to pay. For the chance to live, help me drive. And bold and strong, we are the fathers and the family, the loving opening of a new door. That they are all our children's. Someone will want a little time alone. Someone will wait as long as it takes for you. You're a sweet girl. Wrap your man around your pinky. My sweet girl. Heart there's so many dreams I need to see. I will never be alive I will never change. Until I I imagined him too! This twitching isn't my final condition, it's me imagining him! I'm throwing caution to the wind, I'm imagining him as well. I can't imagine what that girl would have felt like dancing with the prince. A lovely night, a lovely night. A fiery knight you know you'll never see. You meet your prince, a charming prince, as charming as a prince will ever be. The stars in the hazy heaven tremble above you while he screams, "Darling, I love you!" You say, Away you fly, but on your lips you keep my kiss. All your life you dream of this lovely, lovely night. Short. Plinky on the forte. Okay. But it's not going to be good. The lovely night I love. A fire knight you know you'll never see. La la la la la la. Who's me? He's your prince. Your prince. A charming prince. As charming as a prince will ever be. La la la la la la la. The stars in the hazy heaven shine all above you while he's whispering, darling, I love you. You say goodbye, away. But I know, and if you keep a kiss, all your life you'll dream of this lovely, lovely night. <LYRICS>He's in heaven, friend, how I love you. While he is whispering, darling, I love you, you say goodbye. Away, baby, fly. But on your lips you keep a kiss. All your life you'll dream of this. Love me, love me.</LYRICS> Mr. Rogers, have you ever considered running for President of the United States? Well, I'll tell you, this country might be used to having anything at all named as a presidential candidate, we have acquired some professional actor stage experience. That's what I said in 1928, folks. Mr. Rogers, you've been invited to speak at the Republican Convention in Kansas City, and you've also been invited to speak at the Democratic Convention in Houston. Oh boy, the Democrats, they always have more fun at their conventions because they know they aren't going anywhere afterwards. So will you run for president or not, Mr. Rogers? I sure will. The day the people took their freedom on. This year, in some case, it'll be on the turrets of the David meeting us to pray for our favorite son. Democrats, Republicans, I'm asking for your vote. I got this need from parties something like so. Don't ask me what my platform is, I leave that stuff alone. 'Cause no one gives so promises as history has shown. Yeah. Hooray! Will you share your life with me for the next 10 minutes? For the next 10 minutes, we can handle that we could watch the waves, we could watch the sky, or just sit and wait as the time ticks by. And if we make it till then, can I ask you again for another 10? And if you in turn agree to the next 10 minutes, and the next 10 minutes, till the morning comes, then just holding you might compel me to ask you for more. There's so many lives I want to share with you. I will never be complete until I do. I am not always on time. Please don't expect that from me. I will be late, but please just wait. I will make it eventually. Not like it's in my control. Not like I'm proud of the fact. But anything other than being exactly on time, I can do. I don't know why people run. I don't know why things go through. I don't understand how anybody survives in this life without someone like you. I can protect and preserve. I can say no and goodbye. But why, Jamie, why? I want to be your wife. I want to bear your child. I want to die knowing I had a long, full life in your arms. That I can't lose. Forever. Sharing her life with me. Forever. The next 10 lifetimes. Forever. Where she goes. Till the world is gone. Till there's no one left who has ever known us apart. There's so many dreams I need to see. How many years I need to be with you. I will never be complete. I will never be alive. I will never change until I I do. I do. I do. I do. I have to. About the founding father Alexander Hamilton was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. As you can and push away the unimaginable. Moments when you're in so deep, it feels easier to just spin down. A Hamilton who loves down and learns to live with the unimaginable. Spent hours in the garden I walk alone to the store, and it's quiet uptown. We never left quite before. We take the children to church on Sunday. The sign of the cross at the door, and I pray. That never used to happen before. You knock me out, I fall apart. Can you imagine? Look at where we are. Look at where we started. I know I don't deserve you. Little lion's eye. Hear me out. That would be enough. If I could spare his life. If I could trade his life for mine, he'd be standing here right now. He would smile, and that would be enough. I don't pretend to know The challenges we're facing. I know there's no replacing what we've lost, and you need time. I'm not afraid. I know who I married. And if I can stay here by your side, I'll pray enough so Sitting in the street, walking by your side, talking by your side, happy. Do you like it uptown? It's quiet uptown. Enjoying the unimaginables, walking in the park, long after dark, taking in the sights of the city. Look around, look around. They are going through the unimaginable. There are moments that the words don't reach. There's a grace too powerful to name. We push away what we can never understand. We push away the unimaginable. They are standing in the garbage. Sends her violin aside. She takes his hand. It's quiet uptown. Forgiveness, can you imagine? Forgiveness, can you imagine?
