When I became a nun at a very early age, I had to choose between the convent and life on the stage. So when Reverend Mother said, "Put him on a show," I must tell you, I was thrilled to death. I couldn't wait to go. Then, to my surprise, Reverend Mother didn't hear what was so obvious. The stage was meant for me. One fame I don't desire. I only And a sparkle I imagine would start a fire in you. I don't care if I'm dead in two weeks. I just wanna be a star. I don't care if you don't believe it. I just wanna be a star. I wanna be the nun who makes you cheer. The nun who's at the front instead of in the rear. And what I want to be to lead the band and have the crowd in the palm of my hand. So I don't care if I never entertain us, just so I can be a star. When they began the show, they were really green. They didn't know a chorus line from a forest green. They didn't realize that in the chorus You never get to strut your stuff, you never really shine. Well, I don't care if I never reach my dreams, just 'cause I wanna be a star. I don't care if you know what I needed, I just wanna be a star. I know my vows to poverty, but I can't make a fortune. One lady is sitting on the porch in her old nun's home and they ask her who they are. I just want to say, hey, I'm a star! I don't care if I'm ever famous. I just want to be the chorus line in Broadway. I bred not to be a star. You're ready to park your own damn car.
I just wanna be a star. This song, called "Nine People's Favorite Thing," features the four characters singing about how they'd rather make a show that a few people love than a show that everybody only kind of enjoys. We can neither follow our instincts, take advice from every joker. We can neither be distinct, or wind up are merely mediocre. But not me, not me. When we set out to write this musical, we said we'd write a show that we'd want to see. We knew we'd never please everyone. Remember that day at Christine's? You said to me, you said to me, I'd rather be 9 people's favorite thief than 100 people's 9th favorite thief. Thing. 9 people's favorite thing. Then 100 people's 9th favorite thing.
Yeah, you're right, Jesse, let's not compromise.
Let's create something we've never seen. A risk was taken with all that talent. Look what happened. Betty and Adolf burst onto the scene. A shot to come in and breathe. And with lock and harness, with riding tenderloin, they were taking a to write a show about a horse. When Kendra and Ev were working on the ring, I like to think at some point John Loeb stepped back and said, "I'd rather be 9 people's favorite thing than 100 people's 9th favorite thing.
9 people's favorite thing than 100 people's 9th favorite thing." When you came to me the first draft of the show, I'll admit I was A little bit. This sucks, but I'm not giving up on you guys until all of us learn to knit on the bus and truck. On the bus and truck. And who says 4 chairs and a keyboard can't make a Broadway musical? We're enough with only that keyboard. We're okay with only 4 chairs. We'll be fine with only 4 chairs.
Or a car with only 4 chairs.
Who are? I am 8 years old in Ohio. It is time for the annual church bazaar for the cake baking contest. I am going to be the big star. But I don't want to make a German chocolate and the 7th layer will never complete. So I show up with pride this morning with such a crate of Rice Krispie Treats. I'll push them aside, say that they are too strange to compete, and sure, most of the judges Or the red velvet. But one picks the Rice Krispie Treats.
Let our show be the Rice Krispie Treats.
I'd rather be 9 people's favorite thing than 100 people's 9th favorite thing. 9 people's favorite thing, then 100 people's 9th favorite thing. Those 9 people will tell 9 people, then they'll have 18 people loving the show.
Then 18 people could grow into 525,600 people all loving our show. And maybe someday, if we're lucky enough, We'll all be in the studio recording our show. In 10 years from now, when we play the cast album, this track on the CD will remind us why we'd rather be the tiny favorite thing than a hundredfold favorite thing.
Than a hundred years after being the favorite thing.
The decision is made and we're on our way. We may lose or maybe we might The Nine People's Favorite Thing.
The Nine People's Favorite Thing.
When we open tonight. Tonight.
He becomes the famous Peter Pan. In the number "What You Mean to Me," J.M. Barrie, played by Karchener-Mertens, and Sylvia, played by Sarah Jane Hale, share their love for each other and their influences on each other's lives.
Although words run dry, something changed, can't explain, and I can't deny.
Turning in circles and blurring the lines, the asphalt can't heal. Calling us tonight. I won't cry. I'm a little bit frightened, but my imagination swears I'll try. I'm feeling enlightened, and my inspiration can fly and flee.
What should I —will give you wings.
Just take the second star on the right, straight ahead to the morning light. Just take the second star on the right, straight ahead to the morning light. Every word, every sentence doesn't seem to make a difference. Nothing can explain just just what you mean to me.
Every shape and all the colors, all the warmth and all the love that is never expressed, just what you mean to me.
Every instinct, every feeling, breath that sees my senses, really cannot even say just what you mean to me. Turning in circles and burning the lights. I won't lie, the wheel of time is my imagination's warehouse.
—The living light is my inspiration.
We can fly and flee, won't you come? Mr. Faith will give you wings. Just take the second star on the right, straight ahead to the morning light. Just take the second star on the right, straight ahead to the morning light.

Anybody here who came inside with my phone? It's the maid's day off in the big dollhouse. Lady Justice, where you gone?
Oh, real bad check. I think I left the car.
Did you see Corny laughing at your burgers out loud? Funny cats make for life in the Big Dollhouse. Big House! We're in the Big House! No food! No bed!
I hear a chronic old wizard from that club spell.
Funny cats rock the soap in the Big Dollhouse. Exercise, ladies! That is the strangest you've ever been! You, my stomach's a little sour.
I haven't had food in over an hour. You just had a pizza, so Google the map.
There's no food left in the Big Doll House. Hey, basement, I've got a complaint. Mommy, don't let Mommy come home. It's the maid. Oh my Penny, I can't take all this waiting. I lost my dad, plus my parents, you blame me? Well, Tracy, I hate to rub it in your grass, but it's your fault that we're in this pickle. Stay cool, Miss Lettie, no need to shout. Don't you got an old man to beg him out? Daddy's gonna give her a burger, that's that.
From a man of no importance. It was a long misty Sunday we set out, and I still could see the hearse my way. A tear in her eye, she said, "Love, please remember, no matter the cost. You may travel far, but love's never lost." So I traveled down the high road and far from funny. There were other misty places a boy had to see. Well, I was taken by storm, I was tossed, but I told myself that love's never lost. It was on a misty Sunday, pretty near to the day. I came walking on air to talk to Jane, but she'd gone away. She was down Down in the churchyard, her headstone is lost. They travel far, but love's never lost. They travel far, but love's never lost.

It's the dance floor pillowcase, I love it. You're the trend, baby, I'll be your Just accept it, Dolcrania.
Don't resist it, Dolomania.

It's the latest craze!
It's so hot and fresh with a nice cold Friends set them up on a double date with each other. Diana and Jeff throughout the show have a friends with benefits relationship, while Marcy and Austin are perfectly wrong for each other. Marcy goes to Austin after she has rejected Jeff to him and tells him that even though he has many flaws, she loves him anyway. Austin gets offended by the "anyway" aspect of her love and rejects her. While Marcy tells Jeff she wants to have an exclusive relationship with him, Jeff responds with fear and says all the negative things that would happen if they were to be a couple. They all go their separate ways.
We now present "But I Do for My Lovey Because." I'm questioning the things I thought I heard you mention.
I don't know why I love him, but I do. I wanted him 'cause he was wrong. I'm not certain how it was with him now. Where I belong. He's an idiot and a stuffed shirt and a Republican. I don't know why I love him, but I do.
She's like every woman I've ever met who says casual's okay, but they don't mean what they say. There's nothing special about her. What does she look like? I forget. I'm certain I'm better off without her.
I don't need her anyway.
I wanted him before, and she knocks on my door with a pout, and to be honest, I never called I try to keep my feelings from bubbling up again.
I don't know what I love in you.
I don't need her anyway.
But I do. Why ask you that? Ask you that? Ask you that?
You know where you stand.
You know who you are. You figured it out.
You got the whole world in the palm of your hand. You're sure of your ways.
You feel solid and strong, then someone comes in and shows you that you're wrong. Why can't I explain?
She's only a woman, there will be other women. I barely survived once, driving me insane. I know he had a woman. All that I know says I should leave her and go find someone new. I don't know what love is.
I don't need her anyway. But I do. But I do. But I do. Found in the little things in life. When the hard things in life come, just wait till you see what's next and what new opportunities lie behind the corner. With choreography done by Corey Wakamatsu and company-led and solo performed by Kelly Dahan. MDT would proudly present Wait Till You See What's Next.
and it feels like the end of the line. There's nothing to say, there's nowhere to go, there's no one to listen. One day comes, I decide to claim what's mine. In spite of myself, I'm dying to know what's What's across the road? What's beyond the wall? What's around the corner? And what will it take till I find my way? Will it be today? Will it be too late? Wait till you see what's next, just beyond the hill, just along the river. Something that's pulling me out the door. Drive for something more. Drive for something great. And wait till you see to see what's next. Step by step, when it's hard just to see or to hear, a ripple of doubt, a slack in the pace, a small hesitation. Step by step, then at last, when the fog starts to clear, I open my eyes I'm ready to see what's across the road, what's behind the wall, what's around the corner. What if it's not what I thought I'd see? If it's not for me, chalk it up to fate. Wait till you see what's next, just beyond the hill, just across the river. You thought that you knew how the path would turn. One more thing to learn: open up the gate and wait for the story you've never seen. Wait for the long night. Away. There's a flicker across the screen, coming to your room, coming now. Just across the road, just beyond the wall, just around the corner, a new bit of history there to write. Something you all might underestimate. But wait till you see what's next. Just beyond the hill, just along the river, just on the edge of the great abyss. What you can't dismiss, what is pain.
Just wait, wait till you see what's next. Just across the road, just around the corner. Wait till you see what's next. Just across the road, just around the corner.
Wait till you see what's next. Wait till you see what's next. There will now be— The musical shows that there is still kindness and happiness in the darkest of days.

You found your heart but left a part of you. Somewhere in between the pace of life and work and where you're going, something makes you stop and notice everyone in the moment.

You are here!
At the start of the moment, on the edge of the world, where the river meets the sea.
Here on the edge of the Atlantic, on an island in between. There is a freedom, a freedom, a freedom, and a freedom. I am and I'm hurt. Home to the poor, home to the streets.
A kiss and a call and whatever's in your spleen. To the ones who pledge, they're never truly gone. The candles in the window and the candles always on. To the cults and the caves and the people in the waves.

What's that playing on the radio? Why do I start swaying to and fro? I have never heard that song before, but if I don't hear it anymore, it's still familiar to me. Sends a thrill right through me, 'cause those words remind me the night that I first fell in love too. Those magic changes, my heart arranges a melody that's never the same, a melody that's calling my name and begging, please come back to me, please return to me, don't go away again. Oh, make them play again. The music I want to hear is the one again you whisper in my ear. Oh, my darling. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. I'll be faded by the radio. You'll come back to me someday. I know. Central Alaska Park. While the bass is sounding wild, the drums are pounding, beaten up by Rob Bagley, who climbed to first place. All enjoy! You will come back to me someday, I know. It's not a true last goodbye, but I'm singing as a cry. While the drums are pounding, the weeping of my broken heart, planter freaks resolve their strife. I need you. I love you forever and ever. I want you. I need you.
I love you forever and ever and ever and ever and ever.
Forever and ever and ever and ever. Problematic friendships in the band, both in and out of high school.

To taste like the real me by some stranger you recognize. So, so pure, so electric, so short —so connected to those little leavers inside. May we all be so lucky, a dream storm to sail. The kind we got used to is nothing I can feel, nothing that I know. Dreams come and they go. But hold them, keep them, and know that you need them. So you're breaking points, all that you have. A dream is a soft place to land. They will be so lucky.

Let's do as he says. I want a proper photograph. As a memento. All dressed up in a way too curious for a photograph. All dressed up in a morning suit. How much do I not allow? He barely came out of his crib for trips to Redland Beach. There's always been a photographer to record the ABCs. Hold it! Stick it in the baggie. Hold it. I need one more picture, please. Hold it. Now everyone say cheese. Something happened long ago when man was in his prime, and what we all— we only know from the stuff they took at the time. Adam and Eve in that birthday suit decided to get wed. Quick, Adam is about out to taste the fruit. The man with the camera said, hold it. Hold it and lose the silly grin.
Hold it, I can't quite fit you in.
You've read it in a folio or seen a Shakespeare play. How true is that saying, "You're the very one for me," as he tried to climb the orchard wall to reach his leaves there? When he tumbled, she began to fall as he floated through the air. Hold it. Let's give it one more bounce. Hold it.
Now watch me as I flap. It had several wives, including Anne Boleyn. It made an album of their lives with all their photos in. As Anne Boleyn was on her knees dressing her very best frock, King Henry shouted, "Smile, dear please," as her head rolled off the block.
Napoleon! Oh dear, I think I've got this. When Napoleon married Josephine, there was just the same to-do. He galloped home from the battle scene all the way to Waterloo. And as he came from all his walks to the boudoir where she sat, she said to him in French, of course, As he took off his big, hot hat, she— oh, there she was, wicka wicka, on board of the Lulala. What a picture! What a picture! What a picture! What a picture! What a picture!
Come on, come on, come on, come on! Sing it in the family!
Sing it in the family! Sing it in the family! How about, how about, how about I am hanging in the bathroom at the biggest party of the fall. I could stay right here or disappear and Nobody here to go to settle. I'm a creeper in the bathroom 'cause my buddy kinda left me alone. Well, I'd rather fake pee than stand awkwardly or pretend to check the temps on my phone. Everything felt fine When I was half aware. Now there's no fault of mine. There's no other halfway. Now I'm just Michael in the bathroom. Michael in the bathroom. I'm partying. Forget how long it's been. I'm just Michael in the bathroom. Michael in the bathroom. Arden, you can't come in. I'm waiting it out until it's time to leave.
I'm picking at the route as I softly grieve.
Where's Michael? We don't know. Michael quiet, solo. Michael in the bathroom by himself. All by himself. I'm hiding, but he's out there just ignoring our history. His dad erased it all, get replaced with a newer, cooler version of me. I hear a drunk girl sing along to Whitney through the door. I want to dance with somebody, then up hill and seek, 'cause he Makes me think. Now there's no one to make fun of drool girls with anymore. Now it's just— In the bathroom. I go in the bathroom at a party. I have regret. The beers. I go in the bathroom. I go in the bathroom at a party. As I choke back the tears, I wait as long long as I need till my face is dry. You're all just blaming it on a weed or something in my eye. I'm just Michael with a doll, Michael flying solo, Michael in the bathroom by himself. Knock, knock, knock, knock. They're going to start shouting. Knock, knock, knock, knock. Oh heck yeah, help me out soon. Knock, knock, knock, knock. It's Sucks he left me here alone. Knock, knock, knock. Here in this teenage battle zone. Bang, bang, bang. I feel the pressure blowing up. Bang, bang, bang, bang.
My big mistake is showing up.
Splash, splash, splash, splash. I force upon my face that I'm in a better place. I go to open up the door, but I can't hear knocking more. And I can't help but yearn for a different time. Then I look in the mirror and the present is clear, and there's no denying I just— I don't work here. Is there a sadder sight than Michael in the bathroom of a party? This is a heinous night. I wish I stayed at home in bed, or I'm just ignored, or wish I offed myself instead, wish I was never born. Michael was a loner, so he must be a stoner. Friends of his Cruiser, that is such a loser. Michael flying solo, who you think that you know? Michael is the best by himself, all by himself, all by himself. All you know about is my name. Awesome party, I'm so glad I came.
back to me and suddenly I'm helpless. Look into your eyes and the sky's blue and I'm helpless. I know no doubt will count and I'm struggling, I'm helpless. I look into you, look into your eyes and the sky's blue and I'm helpless. I know no doubt will count and I'm drowning in them. One week later. I have a letter nightly. Now my life is better every letter that you write me. Locking up my sister 'cause she wants to form a harem. I'm just saying if you really love me you would share it. Ha! Two weeks later. Stressin', thoughts on my face while you're askin' for a blessing. I'm dyin' inside as you wind up dyin' and I'm tryin' not to cry 'cause it's Helpless.
Let's leave it all behind.
Draw a line under our dragging out. In New York you can be a new man. In New York you can be a new man. In New York you can be a new—

Before they will get better. It may feel like an ending, but the battle's just begun.
Are we ever gonna once have it easy?
Don't be feeling ready, feeling stoked, feeling queasy. We could fail, but we have to try.
Don't feel bad, 'cause we're usually about to die. Bring on the monsters, bring on the Bring on the monsters, bring on the real world. Bring on the monsters, bring on the real world. There'll be times when your faith is shaken, breaking your heart, and they try and tear you down.
Gotta know where the real fight lies when it's time to rise and stand your ground.
You don't have to go —right along.
Put us in a box, but we won't be contained. It's the moment to keep your eyes open, 'cause the sea doesn't like to be restrained. No, I'm never gonna want to have it easy. I'll make mistakes on my own, and it frees me.
The summer's over, it's time to begin. If you're looking for trouble, then count me in.
Bring on the monsters!
Bring on the monsters, bring on the real world. Bring on the monsters, bring on the real world. Bring on the real world, bring on the real world. Real world. And I'll be back next summer, see me again. I'll be back next summer, <LYRICS>I'll be back next summer, I'll be back next summer.</LYRICS> <LYRICS>—I'll be back next summer.</LYRICS> <LYRICS>—I'll be back next summer.</LYRICS> Here I am. Here I am. Is my king. Where are you? Where are you? Will you answer me? In the quiet, all my ears are thirsty for your voice, for your voice. Can you answer me? If I try, maybe I can see your shadow in the story of my— the lesser angels as blue. If I tried, I might take a flight as Sparrow and not travel alone. Very soon, very soon. Does the sound of the wind go?
Are you there? Are you there?
Will you answer me?
Holy, holy, when you move with your hands.
The world around me and around us, Lord, will you answer?
