Welcome to the 2017 Bagley Hopkins Backyard Concert Extravaganza. If you're on social media, the hashtag is #BagHopConcert2017. I'll say a prayer and then feel free to eat and we'll sing here and there.
Yes, and we have the people that made that possible with divine help. I owe her a painting for getting me a husband. So, I don't, you know, there's lots of, I married into this fantastically talented, really professional family and I'm, I can't, I can't remember words to songs. So, if you guys have never been to one of these before, I I pretty much look at the words all the time. So I used to call myself lyrically challenged, and so pretty much anything I ever do is karaoke with my own paper, minus track here. So I'm just gonna start off with a song from Pitch Perfect. It was a kind of funny movie, but it had really great music in it. So we're gonna start with a little Anna Kendrick. Oh, also, if I start to mess up in the middle of the song, I am often liable to just stop and be like, "Haha, that's all you get." So it's exciting, isn't it? Like, you never know, and this is free, so I feel no obligation to be excellent, although it would be nice. Okay. When I was getting ready for this, the kids started banging on cups. I can't actually do the cup thing. That's why I use this.
I got my ticket for the long way round. 2 bottles of Pepsi for the way. And I sure would like some sweet company. And I'm leaving tomorrow. What do you say? When I'm gone, when I'm gone, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone. You're gonna miss me by my hair. You're gonna miss me everywhere. Oh, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone.
Oh, see, I started— see, I messed it up. This was just to see if you guys were paying attention. You're gonna miss me, and I'll start when the next thing comes around. That's what I was waiting for, that part of the song right there.
Pick it for the long way round. One with the prettiest of views. I've got mountains, it's got rivers, it's got sights to make you shiver, but it sure would be prettier with you. When I'm gone, when I'm gone, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone. You're gonna miss me by my walk, you're gonna miss me by my talk. Oh, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone, when I'm gone, when I'm gone. You're gonna miss me when I'm gone. Oh, you're gonna miss me by my hair. You're gonna miss me everywhere. Oh, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone. When I'm gone.
I really should have practiced this. Okay, so just so you know, like, at the— we had a little cook-off last Wednesday and people asked me if I'd practiced. I have never been accused of over-practicing. Or ever practicing.
Alright, the next song—
oh, stop, stop already. Gosh, I need a technical assistant. That is usually my husband. He's super good at this stuff, and I just make jokes and try to look cute. So the next song I actually sang at my reception. Because it totally encompassed how long I had to wait for a husband. You know, you guys who just met me, you don't even know.
It was—
Cheryl's over there laughing like this is a joke because she appreciates the torture that was 43 years waiting for a husband. Right? Now, that's to say that I've been alive 43 years. That absolutely is not true. Except that it is. But you can call me 26 anytime.
Alright.
This one I actually know the words to. My lonely days are over, and life is like a song. Oh, at last, the skies above are blue. My heart was wrapped in clover the night I first met you. I found a dream that I could speak to, a dream that I could call Oh, by your love I found a grave to press my cheek to. A dream that I had never known. Oh, you smile, and the spell was cast. And here we are in heaven, for you are mine at last.
Thank you. Okay, let's see.
Okay, the next journey. Okay, now this has some serious air guitarage in there. As noted earlier, I am not a dancer, so I expect to see— this is, this is your payment. Okay.
Just a small town girl living in a lonely world. She took the midnight train going anywhere. Just a city boy born and raised in South Detroit. They took a midnight train going anywhere.
Right?
Okay, it's coming up.
Are you ready?
I'm—
Robbie, thank you.
Anyone else? Uh, hey! A singer in a smoky room, the smell of wine and cheap perfume for a smile they could share the night. It goes on and on and on and on. Strangers waiting up and down the boulevard, their shadows searching in the night.
Yeah, we got a drummer out there!
Streetlights, people living just to find emotion, hide it somewhere in the night.
Okay, this is you.
I love having dancing people working hard to get my feel. Everybody wants a thrill. Paying anything to roll the dice just one more time. Some win, some will lose. Some are born to think through, others moving never end. It goes on and on and on and on. Stranger Wading up and down the pool of mud. There's shadows searching in the night. Streetlights, people living just to find a little sun hiding somewhere in the night. Okay, more guitar.
This is you.
Okay, front row, you really got to do better with your—
there you go! Nice, guys!
Dancers, don't stop believing. Be like people. Don't Don't stop believing, hold on to that feeling, feel like people. Don't stop believing, hold on, feel like people.
Okay, so that like makes my day because it draws attention there.
I—
so a friend of mine asked me like if it's so frustrating because I sing at Costco. A lot of you know that's how I met my husband because he knew two things about me. Kathy had told him two things: I work at Costco and that I sing. And so in May, I was singing for Children's Miracle Network to raise some money for them, and he came in and I was singing and working. So divine, divine intervention at Costco. Um, but somebody asked me, they're like, does it drive you crazy that there's like people walking and going? I was like, no, it is the best, the best thing ever because they're not really looking at me. I love So, I mean, if you want to talk amongst yourselves quietly, because I do want you to listen to me, because I mean, I am, you know, prideful and stuff.
But come in, come in. No, come in.
Now she's like, I don't want to come in because everybody's gonna stare at us. Come in, it's the Osbornes.
See, it's the Osbornes.
Come on.
Okay, I'm gonna do one more song, and then one of my kids is gonna do one of their songs. So I don't know who, and I don't know how, and I don't know when, but I know— sorry, everything is a song when you're talking in a microphone. Okay, now again, remember that you only brought food for your payment, so if I don't remember how to sing this song cause I haven't sang it since May. Um, just remember that you enjoy each other's company and that's enough. Hopefully, right?
Except I'm supposed to start singing like—
it's one of those weird ones that like starts like right then and it doesn't give you any time.
Okay.
Okay, let's go.
I'm just going to start in.
Let the sun fade out to a dark sky. Can't say I'd even notice it was absent. I could live by the light in your eyes. I'll unfold before you, would have strung together, the very first words of a lifelong love letter. Tell the world that we finally got it all right.
I choose you.
I will become yours and you will become mine. That sun should have gone away. Time went, I believed them. If they told me that you would not come true, just love's illusion. But then you found me, and everything changed, and I believe in something again. My whole heart will be yours forever. This is a beautiful start to a lifelong love letter. Tell the world that we finally got it all right.
I choose you.
I will become yours and you will become mine.
I choose you. I choose you.
We are not perfect.
We'll—
this is the part that I mess up every time. Are you enjoying each other's company?
Hi!
This is a fun part of the song that's called a bridge, and I'm supposed to like be a little bit like further down here and actually probably higher up.
Yay!
I get to be the other half of you!
Oh, see, see, the girls should just come up and sing this. They're gonna bring their food and everything.
Yay!
This is why I married into this family.
And because I love my husband.
Okay, we're gonna take a tiny little short— if you want to get water or food, she's gonna find her song.
Oh, I almost said yes.
I almost said yes. I know, just stay true to mine.
I'm not hungry. Okay, so Mia's gonna sing her song next. It's from Cinderella, and then Robbie's got something planned for after that. This is so much like— those of you that have been before, I know No, you're gonna say, "Oh, it was great just having just you." But isn't this so much more fun having like other people? Yes, thank you. I know, I agree.
Okay, I feel better now that my mom's messed up because now I don't feel bad if I mess up.
I totally did it for her.
It was not for me.
Okay, here we go.
I'm as mild and as meek as a mouse.
When I hear a command, I obey.
But I know of a spot in my house where no one can stand in my way. In my own little corner in my armchair, own little chair.
I can be whatever I want to be. On the wings of my fancy, I can fly anywhere, and the world will open its arms to me. I'm a huntress on an African safari. It's a dangerous type of sport, and yet it's fun.
In the night I sally forth to seek my glory, and I find I forgot to bring my gun. I am lost in the jungle all alone and unarmed when I meet a lioness in her lair.
Then I'm glad to be back in my own little corner.
All alone in my own little chair.
I chose a short song so I won't have to sing for long.
If you write anything on your— Hot.
Oh, hey, how's it going? Has anyone, has anyone heard of like High School Musical?
Yeah, great.
Time I've convinced my girlfriend Lindsay to sing with me, and, uh, yeah, here it goes. We maybe muted it.
Let me go back.
I want you to know I've never had someone who knows me like you do, the way you do.
I've never had someone as good for me as you, no one like you.
So lonely before, I finally found what I've been looking for.
A dance break.
What do we have?
Someone who knows me like you do, the way you do. I've never had someone as good for me as you. No one like you.
So lonely before I finally found what I've been looking for. Do you, do you, do you need it too?
Uh, sure. No, I'm good. It's all on there. So that— they danced! I don't know how that works, so.
Sorry. Okay. I didn't put the words down to this one because I knew—
this is why I use words.
She knows it. Because you make me feel—
that part right now.
You make me feel, you make me feel like a natural woman. And when my soul was in the lost and found, you came along to claim it. I never knew just what was wrong with me till your kiss helped me name it. Yeah, I'm no longer doubtful of what I'm living for. If I can make you happy, I don't need more, 'cause you make me feel, you make me feel, you make me feel like a natural woman. Oh baby, what you've done to me. You know you make me feel so good inside. And now I want to be, want to be close to you. You make me feel alive. Cuz you make me feel, you make me feel, you —make me feel like a natural woman. I feel like a natural woman. I do this each and every time.
Like, there was one time I was going to start Popular. I was gonna start the song Popular, and I'd sung it a gajillion times, and the music got ready and was going, and I was like, does anybody out there know the words? Because I don't. And I think it was Chris Fineauer. I think he, I think he knew the words. Okay, I don't know, some of you guys might know the singer Kristin Chenoweth. Anybody? Yeah. This is not from one of her shows. This is this— well, it's— she did a stage show, um, and it's not from a musical, I should say. Um, it's, it's the song that I was singing when, um, you guys did not come to hear like my whole love story with my husband, but that's the song. This is the song I was singing when he, uh, when he first—
when he first saw me.
There's a boy who works at Starbucks who is very inspirational. He is very inspirational because of many things. I go in at 8:11 and he smiles and says, "How are you?" When he smiles and says, "How are you?" I could swear my heart grows wings.
So today at 8:11 I decided I should meet him.
I decided I should meet him in a proper formal way. So today at 8:11, when he smiled and said, "How are you?" I said, "Fine, and my name's Kristen." And he softly answered, "Hey." And he said my name was Kristen, and thank you for the extra phone. And his name was Taylor, which provides the inspiration for this poem.
See how it rhymes? Taylor the latte boy, bring me java, bring me joy. Oh, Taylor the latte boy, I love him, I love him. I love him, I love him. So I thought I'd get my nerve up to recite my song, a musical.
I think he would like the fact it's musical because he plays guitar.
So today at 8:11, Taylor told me he was playing in a band down in the village in the basement of a bar, and he smoothly flipped the lever to prepare my double latte, but for me he made it triple, and he didn't think I knew, but I saw him flip the lever, and for me he made it triple, and I knew that triple latte meant that Taylor loved me too. I said, what time are you playing? And thank you for the extra skin.
He said, keep the $3.55.
Because that triple latte was on him. Taylor the Latte Boy, bring me Java, bring me joy. Oh, Taylor the Latte Boy, I love him, I love him, I love him. He used to be the kind of girl Who'd run when love rushed toward her. But finally a voice whispered, love can be yours if you step up to the counter and order. Taylor the Latte Boy, bring me Java, bring me joy. Oh, Taylor the Latte Boy, I love you. I love him, I love him, I love him. Stills have so long my hipsy heart is waiting. Who'd have thought that love would be so caffeinated? Taylor, the latte boy. I love him, I love him, I love him. I love him. I love him. I love him. Okay, Anson, are you ready? What? Yeah, he is. Yeah, he is.
Okay, Anson's up next.
Hey, how's it going?
Okay, at first I didn't want to go first, but then I realized my sister was going after me and she's totally gonna upstage me, so I had to go first. Um, I'm doing this song called Waving Through a Window. It's from Dear Evan Hansen. And I will be Dear Evan Hansen.
I mean, I will be Evan Hansen, so I guess that's it.
I've learned to slam on the brake before I even turn the key, before I make the mistake state before I lead with the worst of me. Give them no reason to stare, no slipping up if you slip away. So I've got nothing to share, no, I've got nothing to say. Step out, step out of the sun if you keep getting burned. Step out, step out of the sun because you've learned, because you've learned. On the outside always looking in, will I ever be more than I've always been? 'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass, I'm waving through a window. I try to speak but nobody can hear, so I wait around for an answer to appear while I'm watch, watch, watch Watching people pass. I'm waving through a window. Can anybody see? Is anybody waving back at me? We start with stars in our eyes. We start believing that we belong. But every sun doesn't rise. And no one tells you where you ain't wrong. Step out, step out of the sun if you keep getting burned. Step out, step out of the sun because you've learned, because you've learned. On the outside always looking in, will I ever be more than I've always been? 'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass. Waving through a window. I try to speak, but nobody can hear, so I wait around for an answer to appear while I'm watch, watch, watching people pass. Waving through a window. Can anybody see? Is anybody waving? When you're fallen in a forest and there's nobody around, Do you ever really crash or even make a sound? When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around, do you ever really crash or even make a sound? When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around, do you ever really crash or even make a sound? When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around, do you ever really crash or even make a sound? Did I even make a sound? Did I even make a sound? It's like I never made a sound. Will I ever make a sound? Make a sound. On the outside, always looking in. Will I ever be more than I've always been? 'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass, waving through a window. I try to speak, but nobody can hear, so I wait around for an answer to appear while I'm watch, watch, watching people pass, waving through a window. Can anybody see? Is anybody waving back at me?
Is anybody waving, waving, waving?
Whoa, whoa!
If you write anything on your computer, you need to get Grammarly.
I write pretty much all day.
Grammarly makes it better.
There it goes again. The moment's gone and I'm too lame to speak. Another wasted opportunity. Always waiting for something to happen, but nothing's gonna happen, not for me. Buddy, I'm always buddy. I'm a girl, for your information. Forever in this situation, waiting and hoping he'll notice how I'm feeling. But every time I get him near, I fade away, I disappear. That's me, never getting heard. He just smiles and walks away like I never said a word. Whoa, can anybody hear me? Am I just blowing air while the whole world marches past? Still I blow And blow, though I know it gets me nowhere. I just get lost, lost in the brass. Flutes don't sparkle quite like batons. There's no visual attraction and no stimulus reaction. Pretty music, that's all the pretty that I've got. I'm special in a quiet way. At least that's what my parents say. Whatever, they were never in the band. Their hair is going gray. No, they don't understand. Whoa, can anybody hear me? I just know, I know, I could sparkle in the grass, but my melody will never be I just get lost, lost, lost in the brass. I get so lost, lost in the brass. Listen, I'm not background noise. Listen, I make music. See me, I'm not one of the boys. I shine, I shine.
I shine on my own.
So I don't wear makeup, I don't stick my hair up with some awesometastic pink barrette. No, I'll never be a majorette. I'm plain, I'm basic, and I sweat when I get nervous. I suck at popularity. People Just don't notice me someday. High school's got to end, and I'll finally find this place where this woodwind doesn't blend. Whoa! I'll be solo obligato, cutting loud and clear right through the tuba blast, soaring high above that clumsy bass vibrato. I won't be lost, lost in the crowd. Blasting loud and clear right through the tube of last, soaring high above that clumsy bass vibrato. I won't be lost, lost in the brass. And finally they'll see there's so much more to me.
At last I won't be lost, lost in Lost in the brass.
Lost in the brass. Apparently it's a family trait. Thank you. She did that just for me.
She totally, totally knew it.
There it goes. Moment's gone. Okay. All right.
Okay, so my family is— so for the longest time, the funnest stuff to sing for me was country music, and I super loved doing it until I met Rob, and he's like, yeah, none of my kids like country music. And in fact, we had a whole discussion, um, at our kitchen table one time about— ah, it's so It's all about pickup trucks and beer, and I was like, no, it's good stories. So I had to throw in a country song just because it's kind of who I am. Sorry, family. This is like the least country country song that you can imagine, so hopefully that's okay.
I used to live in a darkened room, had a face of stone and a heart of gloom. Lost my hope, I was so far gone, crying all my tears with the curtains drawn. I didn't know until my soul broke free. I've got these angels watching over me. Oh, watch me go. I'm a happy girl. Everybody knows that the sweetest thing that you'll ever see in the whole wide world is a happy girl.
Yeah.
I used to hide in a party crowd, bottled up inside, feeling so left out, standing in a corner wearing concrete shoes with my frozen smile and my lighted fuse. Every time I start to feel like that, I throw my heart out like a welcome mat. Oh, watch me go. I'm a happy girl. Everybody knows that the sweetest thing that you'll ever see in the whole wide world is a happy girl.
Yeah.
Laugh when I feel like it. Cry when I feel like it. That's just how my life is. That's how it goes. Oh, watch me go. I'm a happy girl, and I've come to know that the world won't change just 'cause I complain. Let me act this way. I'm a happy girl. Oh, watch me go. I'm a happy girl. Everybody knows that the sweetest thing that you'll ever see in the whole wide world is a happy girl. Sorry. I'm a happy girl.
I'm a happy girl that broke all over that one. That's why I shouldn't sing country songs.
See, country songs are bad.
There was no trucks in that song, not one, or dogs, or beer, or bars, or— oh, I was gonna say no crying, but there was a little bit of crying. Robbie, are you ready for Footloose? Are you gonna do some Footloose? Oh, Robbie's not available at the moment, so we're gonna go to a little bit of Tina Turner. Okay, if I— we've had a plethora of dancers up here, which I super appreciate, super do. So if we could get any of those dancers to do a little deep shoulder action, like, you know, Tina Turner's got that Deep Shoulder. Oh, there's Robbie! After this one, then you get to go. Oh cool. Oh yeah, cool. Oh cool. He's like, for sure Footloose. Okay, um, we're gonna do a little Tina Turner. Uh, River Deep Mountain High. When I was a little girl, I had a rag doll, that kind of thing, you know.
When When I was a little girl, I had a rag doll. The only doll I ever owned. Now I love you just the way I loved that rag doll. But only now my love has grown. And it gets stronger every way.
Day by day. Yeah, that's it.
Yeah. And it gets higher, baby, day by day. Do I love you my own mind? River deep, mountain high. If I lost you, would I cry? Oh, how I love you, baby. Baby, baby, baby. When you were a young boy, did you have a puppy that always followed you around? Well, I'm gonna be as faithful as that puppy. No, I'll never let you down. 'Cause it grows stronger, baby, the river flows. And it gets bigger, heaven knows. And it gets sweeter, baby, as it runs at you. I love you, my old mine.
River deep, Mountain high, yeah, yeah, yeah.
If I lost you, would I cry? Oh, how I love you, baby, baby, baby, baby. Hey, give me the shoulder. I love you, baby, like the flowers as love is free. I love you, baby, like the robin loves to sing. I love you, baby, like a schoolboy loves his pet. And I love you, baby, river deep, mountain high. Yeah. Kate should really come up here. She's the show that these guys are watching.
Hey, take a bow.
Hey, Robbie. Oh yeah, Robbie's next, and then you and I can—
You mean my backup vocals? You guys know Footloose? Yeah. Okay, cool. So there's a town called Beaumont and you can't dance there, and Kevin Bacon Bacon doesn't want to have any of that. So this is a song actually from the musical. So I also am not going to dance, but when I do this, pretend like I'm doing a whole bunch of cool stuff. I could kick back and chill, but I can't stand still. I called the doctor, he said, "Son, I cannot offer you a pill." So I never found relief, and now I've got to move until I've had my fill. I can't stand still. Back where I come from, from. Life's never humdrum. I wish I could take you there. Oh, we have the world at our feet. Life is sweet, ain't no doubt.
Grab a seat, check it out.
Thought it never would end, but I lost it somehow. Would you look at me now? I'm trying hard to tone it down. Gotta watch my P's and Q's. Maybe look before I leap. And then I think, hey, what's the use? Ain't done it yet. And I can't forget how it feels when you dance till you drop. So I don't even start to suggest that I stop I never will I can no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, No, no, no, no, no, no, no, No Okay, I wasn't gonna sing because I just got my tonsils out and I'm like still relearning how to use my voice, but I want to sing, so—
So Ari's coming to be my vocal backup if I, uh, and to be—
and to give me my partner's line in the middle of the song.
Oh! I've also like never sung this song for reals, so this will be really fun.
What?
Go back.
Oh yeah, is it supposed to be going to the speaker?
Oh, it's this thing.
I stick with real things, usually facts and figures. When information's in its place, I minimize guessing game.
Guess what? What?
I don't like guessing games, or when I feel things before I know the feelings. How am I supposed to operate if I'm just tossed around by fate like on an unexpected date with someone who might talk too fast or ask me questions about myself before I've decided that He can ask me questions about myself. He might sit too close or call the waiter by his first name or eat Oreos but eat the cookie before the cream. And what scares me the most, what scares me the most is what if when he sees me, what if he doesn't like it? What if he runs the other way and I can't hide?
From it?
What happens then if when he knows me he's only disappointed? What if I give myself away to only get it given back? I couldn't live with that, so I'm just fine inside I've had my shell shaped mine this way, I get the best view. So that when he sees me, I want him to—
Mom, don't you think you're being just a tad—
I'm not defensive, I'm simply being cautious. I can't risk wrecking statin due to my miscalculatin'. Why? Suits in line. I've seen in movies, most made for television, you cannot be too careful when it comes to sharing your life. I could end up a miserable wife. Oh, sorry girls, but he could be criminal, some sort of psychopath who escaped from an institution somewhere where they don't have girls. He could have masterminded some way to find me. He could be colorblind. How untrustworthy is that? He could be less than kind, or even worse, he could be very nice, have lovely eyes, and make me laugh. Come out of hiding.
What do I do with that?
What if when he sees me, I like him and he knows it? What if he opens up a door and I can't close it?
What happens then if when he holds me my heart is set in motion?
I'm not prepared for that. I'm scared of breaking open. But still I can't help from hoping.
I'm hoping to find someone to talk to who likes the way I am.
Someone who when he sees me wants to again.
Hi. My brother.
So while he's finding the track and everything, um, this is my dad. We're gonna be doing a song called Dear Theodosia. Um, it's basically two fathers singing to their newborns. So, so that's it, I guess. Yeah, it's from Hamilton.
Okay.
Oh yeah. Dear Theodosia, what to say to you? You have my eyes, you have your mother's name. When you came into the world, you cried and it broke my heart. I'm dedicating every day to you. Domestic life was never quite my style. When you smile, you knock me out. I fall apart, and I thought I was so smart. You will come of age with our young nation. We'll bleed and fight for you. We'll make it right for you. If we lay a strong enough foundation, we'll pass it on to you. We'll give the world to you and you'll blow us all away. Someday, someday.
Yeah, you'll blow us all away.
Someday, someday.
Oh, Philip, when you smile, I am undone. My son, look at my son. Pride is not the word I'm looking for. There is so much more inside me now. Oh, Philip, you outshine the morning sun. My son, when you smile, I fall apart. And I thought I was so smart. My father wasn't around. My father wasn't around. I swear that I'll be around for you. I'll do whatever it takes.
I'll make a million Making mistakes, I'll make the world safe and sound for you.
We'll come of age with our young nation. We'll bleed and fight for you. We'll make it right for you. If we lay a strong enough foundation, we'll pass it on to you. We'll give the world to you, and you'll blow us all away. Someday, someday, yeah, you'll blow us all away someday, someday.
The Myers, everyone! Okay, now the party can get started. Yeah, Myers are here!
Okay, I have to pull out the hat for the John Legend Wing Trainer because apparently that made Anson sound better, so—
No, I mean he sounded awesome, but it wasn't the hat. See, he starts it over. I just am like, I missed it. It's totally fine.
I found myself dreaming in silver and gold like a scene from a movie that every broken heart knows. We were walking on moonlight and you pulled me close for a second and You disappeared and then I was all alone. Woke up in tears, you by my side. Breath of relief as I realized, no, we're not promised tomorrow. So I'm gonna love you like I'm gonna lose you. I'm gonna hold you like I'm saying goodbye. Wherever we're standing, I won't take you for granted. We'll never know when we'll run out of time, so I'm gonna love you like I'm gonna lose you. I'm gonna love like I'm gonna lose you in the blink of an eye.
Just a whisper of smoke, you could lose everything. The truth is you never know, so I'll kiss you longer, babe, in a chance and a guess. I'll make the most of the minutes in love with no regrets. Let's take our time, say what we want. Here's what we've got before it's all gone. There's no way I promise tomorrow, so I'm gonna love you like I'm gonna lose you. I'm gonna hold you like I'm saying goodbye.
Wherever we're standing, I won't take you for granted, 'cause we'll never know when, when we'll run out of time. I'm gonna love you like I'm gonna die. I'm gonna love you like I'm gonna lose you.
Remember the part that you said the cool—
I'm gonna love you like Like I'm gonna lose you. I'm gonna hold you like this. By my side, wherever we're standing. I won't take you for granted, 'cause we'll never know when, when we run out of time. So I'm gonna love you.
I'm gonna love you like I'm gonna lose you.
I'm gonna love you like I'm gonna lose you. I don't know what the next song is.
Hold on just a second. I'm not, I'm not quite sure. I'm gonna sing Okay, usually in the past when I've done this song, I have forced some really unknowing, unsuspecting person out of the crowd and sang Popular to them. I still remember, I think I did this— yes, Brother Perry! That was, that was unrepeatable. I don't think I could do that, but I am gonna I'm gonna sing a— No, no, no, we won't pick anybody, but I will sing popular.
Yay!
If I can find the words I remember. Whenever I see someone less fortunate than I, and let's face it, who isn't less fortunate than I, my tender heart tends to start to bleed.
And when someone needs a makeover, I simply have to take over.
I know, I know exactly what they need. And even in your Though it's the toughest case I've yet to face, don't worry, I'm determined to succeed. Follow my lead, and yes indeed, you will be popular.
I get so excited when I say popular. Oh, you'll learn proper ploys when you talk to boys, little ways to flirt and flounce. I'll show you what shoes to wear, how to fix your hair, everything that really counts to be popular.
I'll help you be popular. You'll hang with the right cohorts, you'll be good at sports, know the slang you've got to know. So let's start, 'cause You've got an awfully long way to go.
Don't be offended by my frank analysis. Think of it as personality dialysis.
Now that I've decided to become a palace sister and advisor, there's nobody wiser, not when it comes to popular. I know about popular, and with an assist from me to be who you'll be instead of dreary who you were You well are.
There's nothing that can stop you from becoming popular. Lar. La, la, la, la.
We're gonna make you popular. When I see depressing creatures with unprepossessing features, I remind them on their own behalf You have to think of celebrated heads of state or especially great communicators. Did they have brains or knowledge? Don't make me laugh.
They were popular. It's all about popular.
And with an assist from— oh, me.
Dang it, I'm singing the wrong words again. Nothing— you're going to be popular, okay? Hey! And then my poor protégé is like, uh, thanks but no thanks, and I'm gonna walk away now because you're creeping me out. You're welcome.
And though you protest your disinterest, I know clandestinely instantly.
You're going to grin and bear it, your newfound popularity.
You'll be popular, just not quite as popular as me.
I totally should have had Gabby singing this song because she was singing the whole She actually knows the words. Oh, okay, hold on, stop. This— they just move right on to the next. They don't give me any time to banter. Banter is important, right? Yeah, okay, um, okay, let's try this one. I especially want you to listen to the part about Rogaine. What?
What?
If you were falling, then I would catch you. If you need a life I think I got it. I find a match, 'cause I love the way you say good morning, and you take me the way I am. If you are chilly, Here, take my sweater. Your head is aching? I'll make it better. 'Cause I love the way you call me baby. And you take me the way I am. I'd buy you Rogaine.
Oh wait, I'd buy— I had to say it twice.
When you start losing all your hair, you sew on patches to all you tear, 'cause I love more than I could promise. And you take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.
And you take me the way I am. Thank you, thank you.
Uh, okay, I, um, okay, this, this next one is a country song and there's probably— I don't think there's a truck. I think there's crying. I'm pretty sure. Um, There we go. Okay. You must be so proud. All right, um, I'm gonna sing this one, and then if any of my kids want to do anything else, that's up. Like, Glorious. And then, um, and then I have a closer. And then there's still more food and like the ability to actually talk to your neighbor. That's what parties are supposed to be about. Right? Okay, except I mean, I really love that you came mostly just to listen to me and my family.
The last man on her mind. Gave him everything she ever had. He'd break her spirit down, then come loving up on her. Give a little, then take it back. She'd tell him about her dreams. He'd just shoot her down. Lord, he loved to make her cry. You're crazy for believing you'll ever leave the ground. He said only angels know how to fly. And with a broken wing, she still sings. She keeps an eye on the sky. With a broken wing, she carries her dreams.
And you ought to see her fly.
One Sunday morning, she didn't go to church. He wondered why she didn't leave. He went up to the bedroom, found a note by the window with the curtains blowing in the breeze. And with the broken wing, she still sings. She keeps keeps an eye on the sky. With a broken wing, she carries her dreams. Then you ought to see her fly. With a broken wing, she carries her dreams.
Thank you. Okay. All right, Bagley people. Oh, I get to stay up here.
Right there. Oh, okay.
Yeah, you can look it up on the phone. Yep. So we're— everyone's going to stand over there. We're going to— we haven't really tested this without mics, but we're going to try it. So yeah, save a spot for me.
Some sort of Rice Krispies going on over there. Some of you guys might have seen on YouTube this glorious song, so we're gonna—
Imagine that one, not this one. We haven't really practiced.
Imagine that one, not this one. Don't trust your ears. Remember what you remember.
Is that loud enough here?
Older? One more try, one more try.
I don't think they'll hear us.
I can't hear him here.
Let's go to the mic.
All right, that was a test sample. We were just practicing.
You guys got to be part of that. That's awesome.
Yeah, and I'll just hold it down here because I'll be there. Mama, what are you doing?
There are times when you might feel aimless and can't see the places where you belong.
But you will find that there is a purpose. It's been there within you all along.
When you're near it, you can almost hear it.
It's like a symphony.
Just keep listening. Listening, and pretty soon you'll start to figure out your part. Everyone plays a piece, and there are melodies in each one of us. Oh, it's glorious.
Then you will know know how to let it ring out. As you discover who you are, others around you will start to wake up to the sounds that are in their hearts. It's so amazing, but we're all creating. It's like a symphony, just keep listening, and pretty soon you'll start to figure out your part. Everyone plays a piece, and there are melodies in each one of us. It's glorious.
And as you feel the notes build high, you will see it's like a symphony. Just keep listening.
And pretty soon you'll start to figure out your part.
Everyone plays a piece when there are melodies in each one of us. Oh, it's glorious.
Okay, this is always the last song I do at any of the concerts that I— any of the concerts that I do. It's called For Good. It's from Wicked, and it's really a song about friendship and about how we change each other's life just by being in each other's lives. So So I usually sing it by myself, but I'm super excited that my girls are gonna sing it with me. So, okay, let me plug the right thing in here.
Okay. This one's really rehearsed really well too.
We've been practicing together. I think that you did it with the— oh, okay.
Um, definitely a YouTube karaoke version out there. Yeah, let's do that.
While they're getting the music ready, I just wanted to give you the spiel I usually give at the beginning of this, which is to say that we— I— you guys all, those of you that I know and those— some of you I don't know, which, thanks for coming. You guys are all part of what makes my life good, and hopefully I can be a little part of what makes your life good, and we can influence each other's— influence each other's lives in really awesome positive ways.
We need a pause.
Are led to those who help us most grow if we let them and we help them in return. Now, I don't know if I believe that's true, but I know I am who I am today because I Because I knew I have been changed for good. It is lifetime, so let me sing before we part.
So much of me is made of what I learned from you.
You'll be with me like a handprint on my heart. And now, whatever way our stories end, You know you have rewritten mine. If I meet my friend, like a ship blown from its mooring by a wind of bliss, like a seed dropped by a sower, and the seed grew, who can say if I You changed for the better, but because I knew you— because I knew you— whoa! I have been changed for the better, and just to be clear, I ask forgiveness for the things I've done you blame me for. And I guess we know they're playing to share, and none of it seems to matter anymore. Like a ship blown from its mooring on the firewind, off like a demon, like a seed dropped by a burning globe.
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better. Because I knew you. Because I knew you. Because I knew you, I have been changed.
I ruined your finale.
No, you didn't. You made it better. Thank you guys for coming. Please stay. We planned on having you guys here as long as you want to stay, so there's still food.
Enjoy each other's company. Oh, we're right here.
She says my eyes were gone. How does that work? It doesn't. I don't know.
She knows what she's doing. I see. You're crazy. You're not.
You can't do it now.
