The Best Financial Advice for Women (It's Not Spend Less)

In this YouTube monologue, Shelley (the presenter) challenges the common financial advice given to women—"spend less"—and argues that true financial freedom comes from earning more through high‑leverage, high‑income skills rather than merely cutting expenses. She begins by sharing her own experience of feeling stuck despite budgeting, saving, and working extra hours, and she highlights the pervasive shame and guilt women feel around money. Shelley critiques the gendered advice gap: men are encouraged to negotiate, invest, and build networks, while women often lack similar support and tend to gatekeep. She stresses the importance of open conversations about money, balancing enjoyable spending with financial health, and rejecting the notion that saving every penny leads to a fulfilling life. The core solution she proposes is developing a high‑income, high‑leverage skill—specifically remote sales—where income is tied to performance (commissions) rather than hours worked. She explains how remote sales works, shares her own earnings trajectory, and notes that this skill can be built alongside a current job. Throughout, she emphasizes the need for women to seek out networks, share knowledge, and shift mindset from scarcity to abundance. The video concludes with a call to action: a free 1‑hour training and her TFSA program for women who want to learn the remote‑sales skill and improve their financial confidence.

You're not bad with money, you were just never taught about it, how to spend it, where to use it, where to keep it, etc. And neither was I, so I'm gonna be your big sister and actually help you because I thought for years that I did everything right. I had the budgeting apps, I was never overspending, I always put money in my savings, I would try and pick up extra hours or pick up extra shifts where I could to actually make more money to better my future, but I never felt like I could get ahead. Some phases of my life, I felt like I was drowning. Other phases, I felt okay, it was all right, nothing too bad, but it wasn't the life I wanted. And I didn't know how to set myself up for my future. And I just felt like I had this rain cloud above me 24/7 that I knew I had to keep on doing the same things for the next 30, 40, 50 years because I wasn't set up. But yet no one around me was really set up either. And I didn't know how to break that cycle and actually— build the dream life I wanted financially. So let me help you. And I've got my coffee. It's like a salted caramel tahini latte. I'm not gonna lie, I don't love it, but this is my drink of choice. Get yours. First things first, let's talk about the shame around money. Things are getting a little bit better now, but for a very long time, and even still to this day, when people online or people are giving advice to women about money, it's typically along the lines of, Spend less. You spend too much, you buy things you don't need, and you just have to cut back and stop. Even when I've spoken to friends, their partners have told them that they're spending too much. And yeah, of course there is always two sides to the story, and there's always things that, you know, I mean, at times in my life I would emotionally spend. So if I'd had a bad day, I would emotionally online shop. Is that healthy? No. And if you're doing that, I would 100% encourage to look inwards and figure out why you're doing that and how you can replace that with a better habit. So if that's you, this is different. But if you genuinely are working hard and you want to buy that new blazer, or you want to buy that new skincare that everyone's talking about that you would love to try, or you want to get your hair done, or you want to get your nails done, or you want to buy that coffee on the weekend because you want to romanticize your day, that is okay. You should not feel Guilty for spending money that you're making. The problem is not the money you're spending. The problem is all the other areas financially in your life are probably not set up right, where even when you do buy the things, you probably feel a little bit on edge or a little bit of a niggling feeling in your stomach that something's not right. And that is what I want to help you with today. I am not going to tell you under any circumstance to stop spending and start saving all your money because we're not here to be miserable. I love a thing the same as you. Actually, yesterday I bought the new Dyson AirSmooth. I'm so excited about that. Like, you can buy the things you want, but it's about balance, and that is what I want to help you create. Because when we look at the advice to men, it's negotiate, invest, diversify, pick up that extra thing, do that extra thing, make more money by doing XYZ. Men talk to each other. How? And I've learned this a lot recently. My partner has so many connections. I'm not talking about like so many best friends, I'm talking about connections in business. And he'll just message someone and ask a question, and they'll just message him and ask a question. They help each other out and they give each other tips of what they've learned and what they haven't. Women don't do that as much. We want to gatekeep more, unfortunately. And I'm sure I've fallen victim to that too. Like, women do that, and I try not to do that because I want to share and give as much as possible because beneficial, but women naturally do hold things. And he knows so much more and has so much more confidence doing different things because of those connections that women like me don't have, because I don't necessarily have that huge group of women who I can just go and pull advice from. So it's not necessarily our fault, but we can't play victim to it either. I can't just go, oh, because my boyfriend has all those connections and I don't, then that's just the way it is, and I'm just gonna I'm just gonna have to stay stuck at my level. No, we have to just go harder. We have to try harder. We have to go more above and beyond to learn the knowledge, get the connections, which is— most women feel intimidated by that. They don't want to do that, and it shouldn't be that way. It should be a safe space. Talking about money, growing money, making money should be something we openly talk about. So what do we need to do instead as women? We don't need to necessarily spend less. We need to earn more. Now, You're probably thinking, yeah, great story, Shelley. Like, how am I actually supposed to earn more? I hear you. For years, I was told earn more and more and more and more, and I was trying to get a higher paying nine to five. I was trying to get a high paying nanny job. So I was working as a nanny at the time, making twelve pounds an hour, and I was looking like for hours. We're looking at these job websites, looking for nanny roles that could pay me fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty grand a year, thinking that that was the key. But that's where our mindset is fundamentally flawed, and that's what. Most people do, the masses do, they just spend less. But in order to actually have the abundance you want and to remove that rain cloud over your head of the future, you have to earn more. But you can't earn more in a way that's going to leverage your hours because you only have a certain amount of hours in a day. So you need to learn how you can make more for those hours, how you can be more valuable in a workplace. And I'm not talking about a promotion too, because 9 times out of 10, and I've seen it firsthand with my family, 9 times out of 10, a promotion eats into your time. So you make a little bit of extra money, but you give way more hours. So then it doesn't even out anyway, because you don't even have time or energy to spend the money you're making. I'm talking about leveraging the time that you're working and having a skill that can make you more. Higher income, higher leverage. You're paid for the time and effort and energy and outcome that you get rather than just clocking in and clocking out. Because if you simply just spend less, there's going to be a flaw to that. Your rent can only cost so much, your groceries are going to cost so much, your car is going to cost so much. What happens if you get a flat tire? You've got to pay for that. You are going to need clothes on your Food in the fridge, makeup on your face. 9 times out of 10, you are gonna need all those things. There's only a certain amount you can save, but if you can make more, you unlock a whole new level. And that is what I really wanna help you understand. And most people, well, no one in my life when I started in the industry I'm in now knew about that because it's not a spoken thing. We're told that we just have to save more, save more, save more, but it's not necessarily true. True. Because if spending less is really the reality you want to go down, the best possible outcome is that you're working, what, 30 to 40 hours a week? You're reducing your life to minimal expenses. So maybe you've been able to increase your savings by an extra £300 to £600 a month. And then what? You can't buy the fun coffee because it's a bad idea. You can't buy the new trendy mascara— bad idea. You can't get your hair done. You're just Just do it on the cheeks. It's a bad idea. And before you know it, you've gone through your whole life putting your savings pot first instead of yourself first. And a woman cannot be in her feminine if she's stressed about money. A woman can't enjoy life if she's stressed about saving that extra thing. And this is what I really want you to understand, ladies, and not for it to ever come across in a preachy way, but it doesn't work. It's not possible for that to happen, for you to be able to have such a lovely, lovely life and feel enjoyment if you're saving every single penny because you're scared of an emergency, you're scared that you can't afford that house, you can't afford retirement. There's another way. So how do you actually find this high-income skill or this thing that can pay you for your time and effort? Good question. For me, I found a skill called remote Sales. You may know about this if you're on my channel. Am I saying that's the skill that you have to do? No. Can I only speak from my experience that it has really given me freedom and lots of other women I know? Yes. But essentially, this skill, remote sales, is taking sales calls with qualified buyers who want to buy something, an expensive thing. So online education courses, mentorship, and your job is to make them feel comfortable, safe, answer their questions to get them inside the program to collect their payment and you make a commission on it. So the better you are at that, the more commission you make. And that's what I mean, that is the leverage. I'm not getting paid an hourly salary, I'm getting commission on how good I am at selling that thing. So if I'm closing 50, 60, 70, 80% of the people who are on my calendar, I'm making great money. And that is the difference. I was able, and I still am able to increase my income based on that skillset because my work ethic was never the problem, and I'm sure yours isn't either. But I was just kind of in that wrong vehicle, being really capped at the money that I was making, and I couldn't figure out that cycle. So that's exactly how you do it. Don't get me wrong, my first paycheck doing that was £900. It was nothing revolutionary. It takes time. I'm not selling you a dream, you know, you can just quit your job like that and start doing remote sales. Like, it takes time. You can do it alongside your job, etc., to build up that skill and to build that confidence to replace your income. But that is the point. The problem was Never you need to stop spending or you need to save more. You just need to make more money. And this is obviously not a revolutionary concept, but the reason I wanted to create this video is because I don't think people are saying this to enough women because women don't talk about money enough or it's seen as a shameful subject. But everyone's telling men to make more money. Do this, do that, do the other because you're going to make more. We need to have this conversation too. We need to share wisdom. We need to share what works for others. I'm sharing what works for me. No ulterior motive. Do I help women get into sales? Yes. Am I forcing you to do that? No. I'm just sharing my perspective on what works for me. It's important for you to find what works for you, but do not stick to doing the thing that you are doing now if it's not giving you that fulfillment and it's not allowing you to create the life you want and it's not allowing you to make the money you want. That is the big difference, woman to woman. That is what I want for you too, because ever since I've been able to unlock that for myself and actually build that abundance and actually know that my retirement is going to be fine and know that I can't be made redundant from my job, or know that I don't have to cut back on the coffee just because I need to save the pennies, that is how I'm a happier person. I'm a nicer person. I'm a more caring person, and I'm proud of that. And I want you be proud of yourselves too. So yeah, I hope that's helped. I don't want you to feel guilty about money. I don't want you to feel as if it's shameful or it's a, it's a bad thing to talk about it. It is not. I mean, me and my girls in my TFSA program talk about money the whole time. How much money have you made? What's that? What money can you get paid for here? How's your week going? Like, it's important. It's important to talk about it. It's important to celebrate it because that's how you can make more. And if you are interested to know exactly how I was able to make that money with that skill I mentioned, there's gonna be a 1-hour free training somewhere on the screen here. I'll pop it up for you. I've created a 1-hour-plus training. You can thank me later for that. And you can watch it and really understand how I did it, like A to Z. But yeah, I'll see you in the next one. Bye.
