Tracy O'Malley uses the Enneagram as a microscope to see your authentic self versus your adapted patterns, your strengths and blindspots. The tool works only with patience and objective curiosity, not as a label or weapon.

I am bringing you a series called enneagram 101. And if you've heard any of my other episodes on the Enneagram up to date this far, you know, it's pretty complex. You know, it's become this trendy thing on the Internet these days and I see it being used irresponsibly and not necessarily the way it was intended. And I realized that that's because there's so much information that people are just taking the nuggets and taking what works for them or what feels really good in the moment and just sharing it that way. And I get it. You know, I'm not judging it. It is what it is. It's life. But because I'm so passionate as a teacher of it and an implementator of it, if that's even how you say this stupid word.
It is really important for me to share with you all the different parts of the Enneagram. And it is a lot more complex. For instance, most of you only believe there's nine personality types and it's actually 27. That's going to be a topic for another episode. But just that part alone lets you know that there's a lot more to it than the cutesy memes that we see online or the fun graphics that have your little number in it that you share. There's way more to it. And know this, the Enneagram has been around for a very, very, very long time. You know, I've been studying it, using it, teaching it for seven years now, long before it was trending, long before I think even Instagram was what it is today. And know that it was used to be a tool. It is used to be a tool, and it's not to be used as a weapon or a wall You've heard me say that before. If you've listened to any of my other episodes or any of my Instagram stories around the Enneagram, it's to be used as a tool. And it's used, it's to be used as a tool to help you guide yourself to your authentic self. So for those of you that are out there and you know, it is kind of what I do to help you type yourself, but I help you find those answers within yourself. It's not my job to like dictate what you are. It's my, my goal to help you explore that yourself and really get you to what you are designed to be. So that being said, this series I'm going to be doing, any of the episodes labeled enneagram 101, know that they're going to be bite sized chunks and bite sized education moments of the different parts of the Enneagram. There's also, I mean, I have a whole huge page of all the different parts and components of the Enneagram. So today we're going to start with what I call the Enneagram microscope. And it's basically like the layman's, the crib notes version of why the Enneagram is awesome, how it's powerful, what it means to you, and why I believe that you should be using it to accelerate your transformation. And even if you're out there looking at me like, Tracy, you know what? I'm good. That's fine. But if you are one of those that thinks that, you know, if you're not growing, you're dying, you've heard Mr. Tony Robbins say that hundreds of times before. And my guess is, is if you're into podcasts and listening to podcasts, you are always that person that's looking to grow. So bravo to you. So the Enneagram microscope. If you are like me, I always like science in school, you may not have totally. Okay.
Doesn'T mean you shut off this episode and say, that's not for me. Because when we were back in grade school, I think one of the first assignments we had when we were using the microscopes in lab was to pull a piece of our own hair out, right? And if you hold the piece of hair up, it just looks like a little string or even some thread. But then you put it on the little glass, you know, the little glass, and then you put the little thing over it and then you slide it under the light and the microscope, you put your eye over little eye hole, the eye, little lens and all of a Sudden you started turning some dials here and there, having no idea what the heck you're doing. Enneagram can feel the same way. You have no idea what you're doing, but you keep kind of moving things around until you have a clear focus. And the minute you know, you have locked in on the focus, sometimes you'll see things that make you say, wow. Like, holy cow. It's hard to believe that that little piece of hair could do all those things. And sometimes you're looking at and you're going, ew, that's gross. You know, remember when we would put our blood. A little piece of our. A little drop of our blood under there, and sometimes you would see our blood moving? It was kind of freaky. So, you know, we can be equally fascinated and terrified at what we see at the same time. And, you know, the microscope reveals what the naked eye cannot see. The hidden wonders and the unpleasant realities of maybe what goes beyond what our eyes can see. And I want you to know that the Enneagram is very much like a microscope, right? There's parts of us that we can look in the mirror and we think we have a clear view. But the minute we start putting who we are under a microscope, sometimes there are things that fascinate us about ourselves and make us say, wow, holy cow. I can't believe I did that. And then there are equally some things that we look in the mirror, like, oh, I can't believe I can do that. I can't believe I did that. You know? So putting ourselves under our own Enneagram microscope, we'll see how we shoot shine, and sometimes how we don't. We will have our own wow moments and our own ew moments. Putting ourselves under that Enneagram microscope will let us see our inherent gifts versus sometimes how we can misuse or abuse those gifts. We will also see the divine genius versus how we can distort that genius and sometimes even play small or squash it. The most important part of the Enneagram microscope is you will see how your authentic self is versus your adapted self. And here's the thing. With that adapted self, usually if we haven't done any work on ourselves, that adapted self, part of us takes the hits. That's where we beat ourselves up. That's where all that negative self talk goes, because we know we're not in our authentic self. But with the Enneagram and as it as a microscope, you can see the difference. But this time, you can look at it with different perspective. You can have a high involvement to the process. You've heard me say this before, but a low attachment to what that journey looks like. And you can have a low emotional attachment to how this has played out. Because once you understand that this was all part of how you got through some hard things, you know, if you saw a little child that had to endure a lot of hard things, I know you wouldn't beat that little child up. You wouldn't. And so I want you to, as we Explore the enneagram101 Together, you're going to see how that compassion for yourself grows and grows and grows. And once you have compassion for yourself, holy moly. You have compassion, compassion for other human beings, even ones that have wronged you. You know, I once saw a tattoo on this woman and it hit me when I saw it. It said, when I discover who I am, I will be free. And I think that that's what all of us want, you know, when we can see, hear, or understand another human being, you know that that is where real connection happens. And when you can see, hear and understand yourself, that is where freedom is. And that deeper connection with who you are always divinely made to be, you are connected and free with that authentic part of you. But the thing is, it's important to keep that objective view and focus. You can't just focus in on the wows, and you can't just focus in on the right. And I think sometimes we can be hyper vigilant in one area or the other, but the goal is to keep the objective view and focus. High involvement, low attachment. So why do we even want to do this microscope thing? Sometimes it felt a lot easier not knowing, you know, what you don't know can't hurt you. Yeah, but what you don't know can also hurt you. Because then you can't grow. And if you don't grow, we know where that goes. So this is to help you explore your internal landscape so you can view yourself through it with courage, with an openness that you haven't had before. And like I said, compassion. Compassion, honestly, I'm here to tell you, is a super. It is the superpower of all superpowers. And regardless of what you believe, if you believe in God, the divine universe, whatever that is for you know that there is no deep knowing of a power greater than yourself without a deep knowing of yourself. Because after all, that's what created you, right? So the ultimate desired outcome in exploring the Enneagram microscope on yourself is freedom. You know, that has always been my desire. Freedom of my own self. Sometimes freedom of all sorts of crap that was in my way. But for you, this is what my desire is for you. With you taking this journey under the Enneagram microscope is freedom to love not just others, but yourself. Because, quite honestly, it's really hard to authentically love others if you haven't done that for yourself. Going under your own Enneagram microscope will help you do that if you're honest, open, and willing. I want you to have the freedom to express yourself. Expression of your authentic self with no filters, no masks. Knowing that you are standing on the front line of yourself being you. That you don't have to be the chameleon of your life anymore, that you can show up as you and know that you're not going to be for everybody. And you know what? You're going to be okay. I want you to have freedom to let go. Yes, I know you're all singing the frozen song I'm singing in my head. Elsa is ringing through my brain. But I want you to really have the freedom to let go of obstacles, of compulsions, of habits and false identities that you are using to keep you prisoner. You know that you are captive right now, and I know that you want freedom from that. And most of all, I want you to have the freedom to transformation. I want you to transform into who you are always designed to be. And I know that every day as you look in the mirror, there are days that you're like, I don't even know how it's possible, how I can crawl out of this hole that I've gotten myself into. And I want you to know, seven and a half years ago, that's where I was. I would look in the mirror. I'm like, there is no way out of this. I was buried under so much rubble that I didn't think it was possible. And had I had this information sooner, who knows where I would be? But I've quit asking myself the what ifs because I know that everything was divinely laid out as it should. Because I know I probably wouldn't be teaching this to you if I did, if I learned this sooner. So I want you to have that freedom. What this is not. This is not to alter you as a person, but to soften that part of you, to bring out that softer energy. And if you're like me, that type, a masculine energy kind of person, naturally or by circumstance. Hint, hint. What I found is, through my work with this, it didn't alter me as who I was. It actually let me out of the box. That the world and myself had put, put me in. And it also allowed me to use that softer, more gentle, more compassionate part of me as my strength. Because when we are stoic and aggressive all the time, that's actually not where we're strong. That's actually trying to protect us from something. And sometimes it works, but it also robs us of all the joy, that beauty of love, that connection that we so desire. This is also not to make you a different person, but to help you be the version of you that flows from the divine. But you got to know this. When you explore this and you take on this journey under the microscope, there is going to be a lot of information to absorb. And I only want you to take the bite sized chunks a wee bit at a time. And that's why I'm going to keep these enneagram 101 episodes short and sweet. I want you to kind of chew on it. And for those, I mean, I could go into each Enneagram type and tell you why you want to like, take it all in right now, because I know how badly you want to, you know, change some things in your life. But take it a little bit at a time. It'll. It will make sense. The more open you are to the process and the more you, you don't rush it, you'll actually be able to integrate it much faster in your life. Know this, that there will also be a lot of turbulence. You know, as we unpack some of this stuff, it's going to ruffle some feathers, maybe your own. But take it seriously, it will challenge you beyond your comfort zone. And I'm here to tell you, the more that I explore and put myself under that microscope, the objective one, of course, the objective focus of it. Holy moly, does it rumble. Some stuff and some awarenesses about myself that I've been blind to. And you know, because I can look at it with compassion, it allows me to move the needle so fast in my life and it also keeps me from robbing myself of all the joys that this life has to offer. But no, it's going to challenge you. It can be unsettling to recognize the limitation and lies that you have conjured up and carefully constructed into the Persona that you put out into the world. I mean, I know how hard you work on those captions for Instagram, y'. All. I see it. Yet, you know, when you look in the mirror, you don't see the same thing that you put that caption on sometimes. I'm not saying all of you and know that I ain't judging. I've done it.
But I also know this is what you cling to as your identity. And it's robbing you of. Of all those things that you want for your life. The other thing I want to remind you of is just to take heart and be patient. Be patient with yourself. Be kind, be gentle. Know that you did the best you could with what you had at the time. And when you know better, you do better. And sometimes knowing better makes it harder because then you know you have to do better. So embrace the turbulence. This is opening a whole new space for your inner being. And it's just like, you know, when we go out to the garden or when we want to plant a seed. If you look at the seed, it is like in this tight shell as we go bury it under the ground. But know as that seed coat releases, new growth emerges. And you are no different. So I want you to relax. Relax and enjoy this journey. It's amazing. And I know that you want to transform fast. I see you trying to rush it all the time through all different kinds of ways. But what happens is when we kind of take it too fast, you can miss the miracles along the way trying to rush it. This is an opportunity for you to discover and celebrate the real you. You don't have to figure all of this out today. I know that for me, seven and a half years ago, I knew I needed to change, and I wanted to change fast because I was in so much pain, and I was causing, quite honestly, a lot of pain around me. And I think that's why we rush it. We just want the pain to stop.
But I knew that if I took it one moment at a time, that it would stick. And really, to understand the why behind, we needed to understand all of it. Really keeps that sustainable transformation going. I know you're tired of making changes only to have yourself fall off the wagon. That doesn't have to continue anymore. And that is why I'm so passionate about bringing this to you. And that is why I'm bringing you these smaller Enneagram 101 episodes. The Enneagram is so very complex. Like I said, it's a lot more than fun memes and cute graphics on Instagram. It's a lot more than saying yeah and using it.
For that. It's not our job to start typing other people and categorizing. I know that. That's what I do. I don't do it for you. I help you and assist you along the way, and that is my goal with these episodes is really to help you find the road back to that soul path that is just uniquely yours. And that is my. My purpose right now for you is to help you discover that on your own. Not the one that you like best, not the one that looks good on a meme or in your Instagram stories, but the one that is true to you. And I want you to know, if you're listening to this and you're like, yes, this is exactly what I needed, or even if I piss you off a little bit, or trigger you a little bit, I want you to know this, that you are capable, equipped to transform, even if your life feels like the biggest shit show you've ever seen. Because that's kind of how I felt. But I want you to know this also. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. And if you at all are listening to this, know that is not by accident. I am here to show you what my almost five decades of life experience has taught me. My goal is to help you avoid some of the. The mistakes I've made along the way. My goal is to help you use this super powerful tool called the Enneagram to really transform your life. And not just label yourself or put yourself in a box, but usually, but actually use it to make the moves in your life that matter. Whether it's in your heart space, in your loving relationship, whether it's, you know, in your relationship with your children, which I've used it in that your personal health and business and financial.
Status. This can help in all of those. But you have to take it seriously and you have to be a student of it. And I'm so honored that you have trusted me to be your teacher in this along the way. And I hope you enjoy these enneagram101 episodes. You know, there's so many complexities to this thing, and my goal is to bring you little bits along the way so that you can use this tool the way it was designed to all along. And that's to help you find your road back to you. So if this has landed on your heart, I want to hear what you want to know more about. And so you know, to become bulletproof, it requires you to stand on the front line of your life. And the most frontline you can get is really taking a look at all parts of who you are. And that is my goal in bringing these episodes to you. So with that, I look forward to the next episode of the Enneagram 101. On Tuesdays is when we do all Enneattalk Tuesday.
