Commitment means nothing without action and the right support. Tracy O'Malley spent $40-50k on two coaches and a mastermind before making real progress, and she argues coaching is a better first investment than masterminds if you have to choose.

All right. I know you are committed to growth. You're telling me? You wouldn't be listening to the damn podcast if you weren't committed to growing. Now, there's one thing about being committed, there's another thing called taking action. You know, in this world that we live in, we can make some bold statements and bold declarations of what going to do and I want this, and you can even make freaking vision boards with all this shit. But if you don't take action, none of it's going to happen. Right? I'm all about manifesting and all of that and putting, you know, good vibes and clear intentions to the world, the divine God, all the things, right? But manifestation doesn't happen without an action plan. And I know many of you have actually taken action. You're joining masterminds, you've hired coaches, Some of you have even hired me. And that's amazing, right? I will say that having somebody to keep you accountable definitely helps things along. I, I'm, I need accountability in my life and I can't stand it. Equally, I am very resistant. I can be hard to coach sometimes I can be hard to lead. But nothing changes if nothing changes. And when you are sick and tired of your same shit holding you back, it's time to take action. So one of the things I want to talk about today is the difference between masterminds and coaching. This is one of the most.
Effective actions that you can take in your own growth. You know, if we're talking business, masterminds are excellent. And I know many of you that listen to me don't necessarily listen to me for the business chat. But leadership, there's all sorts of masterminds, right? There's a mastermind for everything. And I think Napoleon is it. Napoleon Hill was Like the originator of. I almost said Napoleon Dynamite. That's so funny. The originator of like what this Mastermind is. And it's bringing people together collectively to work on some stuff. Right. That's just like the crib notes version. And you know, on the interwebs and Instagram specifically and Facebook, we see masterminds popping up left and right. And I have been part of a Mastermind for four years as well, and I have loved it. But I wanted to talk about, like, if you are committed to growing yourself, let's talk leadership and business right now.
What the difference is and which one is right for you. So I speak to, to a lot of masterminds. You know, a mastermind is a mentor or a coach or a high level influencer, let's say, that brings people together, they're a facilitator of the group. Whereas a coach works directly with you, sometimes in a group setting or with you individually. Right. There's more structure and curriculum and what I'm seeing happening. And I want to preface this by saying I am not knocking anybody's Mastermind or any masterminds out there. They are amazing. However, I think some of you are joining them thinking you're getting one thing and you're actually getting another and imposter syndrome kicks in and then you realize, oh shit, maybe this isn't what I thought it was. Maybe this is putting the cart before the horse. And if I'm being really honest, when I joined the Mastermind, I'm part of four years ago. I probably joined it two years too soon. Now could I afford it and did I get so much out of it? Abso freaking lutely. Like it's, it's a high level mastermind in an income bracket that is outrageous. And the people that have been in it over the last four years with me absolutely have impacted my life, my business. Now, could I have moved, moved the needle faster had I hired maybe a more streamlined coach before the Mastermind? Absolutely. And that's why this conversation is so important. Both masterminds and coaching. Super freaking valuable. The problem is, is what I'm seeing this trend, and I know this is a trend because I end up working with a lot of these people. And that being said, when I say that I started in a Mastermind probably two years before I was technically ready, I also want you to know in those first two years, I ended up hiring two very high level coaches to help me accelerate what the Mastermind was doing for me. One was for my personal stuff, one was for Professional. And I shelled out an extra probably 40 to 50k for those two coaches while I was in the Mastermind. And that's why this is such an important conversation. If you're trying to decide what to do or you're in one of these things and maybe things aren't moving or it isn't what you expected. So.
When you need to hire a coach is when you want to grow yourself or your business. Right? So me starting in a mastermind, I knew I was a coach, right? However, that being said, I didn't necessarily know the direction specifically I was going to go in. I'm always going to be a coach and I've been in the online space for almost a decade and had definitely built up an audience and credibility and trust in leadership. There was no doubt about it. But it wasn't until about two years ago that you started hearing me talk about the Enneagram. The Enneagram has always been part of my coaching. However, you didn't start hearing me talk about it at the front end of it until about two years ago. Had I started with a coach sooner, I may not have had to figure a lot of shit out the hard way the first two years. And it ended up costing me a lot of time and a lot more money and some frustration. And quite honestly, my ego took a few hits, my pride took a few hits, my bank account took a few hits. All very important lessons and sometimes very expensive. Right. But I see so many of you joining masterminds with high level people, amazing people. I know some of these people. They are absolutely incredible and their networks are incredible. And I think sometimes we join a mastermind, myself included, a little too soon because of maybe the star power behind that person or we know what their network could do for me. But just because you join their Mastermind, they doesn't necessarily mean you hit the magic button and here we are and the next thing you know, you're meeting Oprah. Right? It's not how it works. And that being said, like I, one of the coaches I hired actually has been a spiritual advisor for Oprah. So it doesn't necessarily mean that you automatically get the fast pass to their network. Do you get access to them? Yes. Do you maybe get to have access to people that you wouldn't have before? Absolutely. Now there's a ton time and place that that comes into play and some of you are just figuring out maybe what your niche is or if you're in network marketing, you want to build your personal brand and so you join a Mastermind and quite honestly, you might need a coach first. So what's happening? This trend that I'm seeing is people are in a mastermind. Amazing. It's better than doing nothing. I will say this, you've dropped a good amount of money on it, right?
And sometimes when we bring together a meeting of the minds, we end up more confused. That's what happened to me. I'm not saying it's going to happen for you, but if you're trying to decide what direction to go to, or maybe you have found yourself in this position like I did, you can end up more confused. You try a bunch of shit that maybe isn't for you. It's only been the last two years that I have been like laser focused and knowing what will work for me and what I'm here to do and what will not. Right. Like I said, it was very expensive lesson. So this is what I want to say. If you are trying to decide between the two or if you're in a Mastermind and you're like, okay, it's great, I'm meeting great friends, right. And that's awesome. And people that bring something to the table that I don't, you got to know that when people join a Mastermind, they're building and scaling their businesses too. So they aren't necessarily on speed dial for you. Right. They can definitely help you, but they've got their own shit that they're doing too. So for masterminds, that's like, when you have your business, you know what it's going to be. You have your niche, you want a facilitator that will attract the right people to the group. This is the other thing that I really want you to be mindful of, is there are some people out there that will take anybody into their Mastermind. There are. And if you end up in a mastermind and let's say you're about 10 steps ahead of most people and you join a mastermind and these are people just starting out, you're not going to get the value out of it. In fact, you may end up helping more of them. That kind of happened to me in some ways. Right. Or you know what you're going to be like, yeah, I feel like people want to pick my brain all the time. And that's not why you join the Mastermind. So make sure if you are ready for the Mastermind and you're ready to scale your business, you already have your niche. You know your vision, you know where you're going, you have some establishment in your business. But you want collaboration and things like that. And you don't necessarily need somebody one on one a holding you accountable and giving you strategy. When you join a mastermind, you don't that. That influencer, that coach, that mentor is just a facilitator. Yes, you may have a strategy session with them, you may have a monthly strategy session with them, but you're not going to have the guided tour like a coach can take you through. And this is what I'm seeing this trend happening is maybe you're joining a mastermind when you actually needed a coach. Or.
What I'm seeing, this is what I did. I joined a mastermind maybe a little too soon. However, I knew this and so I hired two coaches in tandem with that that could accelerate and have me not falling back and making this mastermind wasteful for me. Right. I know many of you are in a mastermind right now and many of you are raising your hand and saying, okay. And some of it is really sneaky marketing. And sometimes you thought one thing and you're getting another. And it happens. It happens because when we set our minds on something, that can happen. But if you're learning about growing yourself and your business, a coach is what you need, whether it's in a group coaching form, which can be a little less expensive, but it's not going to be, you know, a strategy just for you. But that will have structure, it will have curriculum, it will have a formula and a method that that coach has used over and over and over, not just for themselves, but for hopefully, you know, a lot of people that there's proof of concept, proof of method, proof of formula. It will give you a direction, right. And it will be more customized for you.
So if you are just growing your business, this might be the option for you. If you are wanting to grow and scale at the same time, then you're going to need more than just a mastermind. And you are like the two of them together can definitely help you. Now, if your budget doesn't allow for both, what I recommend is you get the coach first. I really, really do. And not just any coach and not necessarily the one that you can afford. I want you to get the one that will stretch you. The one that will stretch you.
When I hired those two coaches, not only was it a stretch financially, on top of my mastermind cost, right. The mastermind that I was in was well into five figures. Both those coaches were well into five figures. It was a. That was stretching me, let me tell you. It was stretching me hard Core. But it also had me having some skin in the game when I didn't want to show up or I wanted to sabotage or I wanted to procrastinate or I wanted wanted to isolate that investment in myself. Had me stepping up to the plate. Now over the last two years, I will say since I haven't been as one on one with a coach now mind you, I did, I do have two coaches. It isn't as frequent as I did in the beginning. I do have a therapist. I mean I've got a team of people keeping this crazy on point because even in the best mastermind that I am in, I mean it's amazing I can still find myself slipping into old patterns if I'm not careful. And that's why I have coaches and therapists and really high level friends that will call me on my shit so that I can utilize this beautiful mastermind and all the incredible people that are in it for the greatest good of scaling my business so I can serve more of you at a higher level. So you know, if you are committed to your growth and your, your business and you want to do this, really understand what you're getting into. It's really, really important. If you need a coach, obviously I am a great choice. Not only do I help you personally, but I am a business strategist as well. I'm performance, I'm very business savvy and the work that we do together will impact all areas of your life. And as far as accountability and when we're developing new formulas and methods and structure in our life, having somebody on standby every day like I do in my one on one coaching that will help you move the needle and make this stuff stick. It's not going to be a one and done. It's not going to be you do this for a little bit and slip back into an old pattern. So that when you are in or if you're currently in a mastermind, I have many people that started in a mastermind realize that oh, I'm not getting the one on One Direction. There's some stuff that being in a mastermind may have triggered in you personally. And I have several people that are in masterminds and then hired me on the side and I, that's like the holy grail. Just so you know, because if you're going to invest in yourself and scaling your business and, and really being able to utilize the right people in the group, you're. You might need some direction. You might get into those rooms. And I did too. I stepped into these mastermind rooms. And these are some top notch, high level people. I've always said, you know, make sure you're never the smartest person in the room. And that's a really good thing. And it's also a very intimidating thing and it's easy to hide out and sabotage and play comparison itis and all of that when we step into those rooms. And if that's coming up for you as you enter in mastermind rooms and whether it's virtually or in person, having a coach that isn't affiliated with that group, that has no agenda, it's really important so that you don't find yourself going backpedaling. I started to and that's why I knew I needed some people to keep my ass accountable. Right. So if you're not sure if you haven't done either, I will always tell you get the coach first. Especially if you don't have your established business or you know, there's some, some fine tuning you need to do. Even if it's not me, I have very, very good recommendations for you. There's only a few coaches that I really, really love that I know do their own personal work, not just business strategy, but also like when, when real life things come up and you know, new levels, new devils. So as you're elevating yourself, old shit's going to come up, buried, buried shit and stuff that you didn't even know was there. There's multi layers to this stuff. I mean, my God, the last year I have up leveled my.
All sorts of skeletons are coming out of the closet and if I didn't have the right people in place to help me navigate this, and I am the most self aware person I know. But the best of us need accountability and the best of us need a guide to help us see the blind spots. And if that is you, whether you're in a mastermind or not, or you're thinking about hiring a coach or not, I am always here to help you so that you can get your gifts out into the world, so you can make the money that you deserve and leave the legacy that you want so that you can live a life that you don't feel a prisoner to. Right.
I know that you're committed to your growth. That's clear. You're here, you're listening to me. I know the other podcasts you're listening to because I just do you tell me.
Maybe you're in a group right now or maybe you run a mastermind. I want to talk to those of you that Run groups, teams, masterminds, organizations. I do speak to a lot of mastermind groups because the facilitator is starting to notice there's this gap that's missing. And it doesn't mean that the facilitator, the Mastermind, isn't doing what they're supposed to be doing. Their job is just to bring the right people in the right room and bring some high level people to you. Right. And I know they're doing that, but I know a lot of the facilitators of the Mastermind are seeing the gap that sometimes you need more of this mindset stuff and it doesn't mean that you jumped in too soon, but maybe there was more there because you're up leveling your life that you didn't even know was there and having somebody come in and talk to your group, not just for a one and done, but encouraging them to have a coach in tandem with the Mastermind so that they can squeeze all the juice out of it. It's been amazing. I've spoken to prob 15 or 20 different mastermind groups over the last two years and I would say there's been a huge chunk of people that end up working one on one with me so that they can get the very most out of not only all the beautiful tips and tools that they're getting on scaling their business, but the ability to put their hand out and say I need help from somebody without feeling less than or unworthy or stupid or you enter, you enter in whatever your shaming dialogue is, right? So if you are somebody that runs a mastermind, I would be honored to come in and speak to your group about the enneagram and understanding yourself and emotional intelligence and self awareness. So when you are in these rooms, instead of being triggered or shutting your shit down or isolating, you can lean in. I've done this so much the last two years in my own mastermind. You know, I'm walking my talk. I am using my own formulas and my own tools to push me in, into my own vulnerability in these rooms and raise my hand and say, you know what? I don't know everything. I need help to, to say, you know what? I'm not going to just hide back here and help everybody else. I'm also going to have an even energy exchange here and not just be the person that serves everybody or the mama t of the group right, because that's not why we join masterminds. It does feel good to, to help people, but there has to be this even value and energy exchange so that you don't feel you didn't get what you needed out of it. So you don't have regrets over spending that investment to be in those rooms. And if. If this is something you're needing help with, whether you're the facilitator of the group or you're somebody in these groups or you're thinking about joining one of these mastermind groups, I would be honored to take you on the journey. I only have two spots open at the time I'm recording this. They could be sold out right now, I don't know by the time this airs because I have been speaking so much and people are realizing that this need is there to stay accountable so they don't sabotage their own work in the masterminds. I only have two spots open. And I always say when the teacher. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. And there's a reason why you're listening right now. Maybe you've been listening for a while. Maybe this is the first time you're hearing my. My pleasantries. I don't know. But if you have been feeling like you're getting the nudge that you met me, whether it's virtually or in person or through the airwaves for a. I'm telling you it's not a mistake. I have taken thousands of people through the journey of growth. Emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is the greatest predictor of success. It really, really is. All the strategy doesn't mean jack shit if you have no level of self awareness. And if you can't lead yourself. I've seen it over and over and over, and I'm best friends with some of the best strategists in the first world. I literally have them on speed dial. And without emotional intelligence or a high level of self awareness and the ability to lead yourself, all that money will be pissed away. It really, really well. And you'll end up shaming yourself even more. So just put the cart before. Don't put the cart before the horse anymore. I'm your thoroughbred right here, right now. Reach out. This personal growth stuff, I was just driving in my car with my son. It's been a hell of a week. I'm going to be really, really honest with you. It's been a very hard parenting week.
Both my kids were in car accidents in the same day. I've been dealing with some personal stuff of my own at the same time. When it rains, it pours. And my son and I were chit chatting right before I stepped into my office to record this episode. And it was a lot easier being ignorant. And I mean that with so much love and respect. Right? Ignorance is bliss sometimes. And it was a much easier kind of not being aware of this stuff. But I also didn't have the joy. I didn't have the abundance, have the intimacy. I didn't have the network. I didn't have the right people in my life when I was ignorant or when I was playing small or when I was numbing out or making excuses or saying, that's not for me. It wasn't until I was honest, open and willing to the process and surrendered to it and got really uncomfortable that the shifts happened. Shift happens, you guys I know you're ready and I'm here for you. And until next time, here's to Becoming Bulletproof.
