Buckle up, let's go.
All right, you guys, you are in for such a juicy treat today. You know how I feel about Enneagram sevens. My. My enneagram7 that I birthed is the whole reason why I was so passionate about learning this framework. Because as much as I loved my daughter, I did not understand anything about how she operated or how she even like, survived life quite honestly. And it was through my willingness to understand her and not make her into a mini me, because Lord knows she's nothing like me in a lot of ways.
I wanted her to be her very best her. And so it was almost a decade ago that I was introduced to the Enneagram. The aha moments about why my daughter was the way she was and how I could help grow with her and help her grow her. She was like 15 at the time, so still had a lot of growing to do. And here we are almost a decade later.
I actually teaches me more than anybody on this planet. And you know, the enneagram 7, they are called the enthusiast. They get a bad rap sometimes as being a little all over the place, flaky, hyper, unfocused. But actually, that is because their brains operate at such a high pace and they like, anything's possible. Anything's possible. Anything's possible. Like, what if this. What if this? What if this? And my like, eight brain is like.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
We gotta strategize. And what I have learned through the framework of the Enneagram is when you got a seven in front of you, you let them rip. Now you gotta wrangle them in sometimes. And this beautiful girl, Monique, that I am about to introduce to you came to me, gosh, about nine months ago. She has an amazing family. First and foremost, she is a wife and a mother and a business owner. And a fireball and an enneagram7. And nine months ago, when I met her, I could feel the restlessness her voice. And she knew she had a lot of good stuff in her. She just didn't know how to necessarily utilize it. At its best, it did feel all over the place for her and very scattered. And so I can't even remember where you found me, but.
We started working together about nine months ago. And what I have seen this beautiful girl do with not just the understanding of being an enneagram7, but honestly, one of the best students of integrating all components of her type. And it ain't just the seven, y'. All. And this is the important part of this conversation, is even if you're not a seven, you're going to hear how she utilizes all the other numbers to help her be her very best self. She doesn't have to be like me. She doesn't have to be like her husband, who is an eight like me. You know, she's got four kids that she's navigating and a large, successful network marketing business. And I can't wait for you guys to hear how this all unfolded and how she uses it today in all areas of her life. Because with that many things going on, if she had to, like, switch out hats all the time, she'll be exhausted. And she was. So now she's learned how to be true to who she is in all areas of her life and find in all areas of her life and find the harmonious flow through all of it. You guys, welcome. Monique. Hello, my love. Hi.
I'm so honored to be on here, and I just absolutely adore you and everything you have taught me.
Oh, my goodness, you. Like, every time I saw your name pop up on my schedule, I get really excited because, you know, the whole key to any of this, I mean, let's just call it what it is. I'm great at what I do. You and I both know that for sure. But that being said, I'm only as good as you are willing. And you, hands down, are one of the most willing.
Students and. And beautiful people I've had the pleasure of working alongside. And I know that, like, even though there were some really hard conversations along the way and honest talks along the way, you took it and turned it into gold for yourself and for everyone you touch. So what made you even want to kind of explore this back back in the day?
Well, first, when I found you, I just felt a safeness about you. And when you shared your story, I was like, oh, My gosh, we have so much in common. But just you sharing how you shared and you were just so open and honest. I love that transparency about you. So I wanted some of that. And I was at a place where, you know, the grass was always greener. Right? Everything was always greener. And I was like, listen, sister, I had to have this hard talk with myself and say, you need to start watering your own grass. Okay. And then you came along and, you know, I was just had the honor to walk alongside you and you just helped me with all this. But I was in a place of four kids running a business. My business stalled.
And I didn't know how to work with my peeps. I didn't know how to lead my family. I did not know how to lead myself. I felt very stuck. And I've done a lot of inner work before all of this, but I was stuck.
So let's talk about what stuck looks like, because I think we throw around that word and then, you know, part of us allows us to stay stuck in that. And just so you guys know, she was not typed as a 7 on one of those online tests. Just so you know, she falls into that. 65 to 70% of them are inaccurate, which I'm actually kind of surprised by. I just pulled it up just to kind of be reminded. She actually typed as a 2 originally on. On this. And trust me, she is a helper and a heart led person. But everything that she does is motivated in the seven. So what was. What was going on in the family? Because as a mother of four and I think at the time your youngest was under one year old, he was just born parts.
Yeah, he was really young.
You know, I was spinning my wheels. I just felt like I was spread thin. I was very scattered all over the place and I just couldn't keep my head above water. I was just in a place where, like, how I know I can do this? I know I can do this. I've done hard things before and I was willing. I was willing to put in the work. I just needed a system that interests me, that was fun and exciting, that I can roll with and implement with my family. Because there's not one way to parent. There's not one way to get along with your spouse. There's not one way to run your business. There's so many different ways depending on your personality types and then other personality types around you.
Yeah. I remember when you were telling me about your husband and I was like, oh, okay, well, this makes sense. Why the wheels are falling. Off the bus a little bit. Not because of a lack of love or respect for each other, but like this misunderstanding on how to communicate with each other. And just so you guys know, her husband ended up working with me as well for quite some time too. And really helping the two of them understand each other, I think has revitalized some things in their household too.
So what was your first aha moment? Because being a seven, you know the motive to never be caged, never be stuck in pain. So this is where the flightiness, the flakiness, the all over the place can look like. So they. They never want. Not just like in pain, but they don't want to be stuck doing the same thing over and over again. And when you' like just what you said, like looking for a system, like for sevens, they're all going, what? What? I don't want a system. I want to be free. Right. But you also recognize that in order for all these beautiful ideas and the, the. The way that you guys think is beyond any of us. Like, we don't even, like, have that quality. In order for all that to come to fruition, you do need a system and some structure. And so what was the first aha, Mom? Understanding the seven.
That it was actually a freeing thing for me because I was able to say ah. Okay. Like, no wonder going back from when I was a child, no wonder relationships that I was in. No wonder when I was able to hang out with all the different groups. If you were a rocker, if you were this, as long as it was fun, I was there and I could connect with you. And I always thought that was a lot of.
I felt bad about that for a long time, but I realized that that's actually just me. That's who I am. I truly still love the people. But I think the first aha moment for me was.
I'm not labeled as adhd because I would always kid around and say, I have adhd, I have a monkey brain, and that's okay. I talk fast, I'm go, go, go, go. But guess what? I have a lot of unique abilities if I know how to use them in the right way.
Right. So this monkey brain and the talking fast thing, when you're not just leading a household, but a business full of leaders, how did you recognize where, like, that is who I am? However, how this gets expressed might need to change depending on who's in front of me, Whether it's my husband, one of my children, or a teammate. How did you navigate and understand, like, okay, I still am me. And that's not changing. And I love that. But how can I express myself so what's on my heart can land on theirs? So that they feel seen, heard and understood, so that they trust me to lead them?
I had to be willing to do a little different. And that my way, you always said to me, it's about being effective, not right. And I would get into a defiant place. Well, if they don't want to listen or people don't want to go, like, this is just me. This is who I am. And that's okay. That is who I am. But I also have other wings that I can use to cater to others and help them with their need because they don't learn like me.
This is where the framework of the Enneagram is so powerful. This is way more than just your main type, and it is way more even than the wings, which, you know, like, she just said, like, okay, I'm going to need some help here because my sevenness is not the right tool for the job. My eightness quite often is not the right tool for the job. So I need a little assistance from the tool belt, which the wings can come into play. We also have our growth and, you know, stretch lines. You know, we can use those as well. And so how did you utilize first the wings in order to be more effective?
Okay, so I have a little saying. I have my little people. I call them. Okay, my little numbers. And my six is always okay. How are we going to get this done? How is it? What's the plan? The 7 is to keep it fun. Right. I can still keep it fun and exciting. And then my 8 is my follow through.
I love that.
Yeah, because I can get lost in that seven. I can get really, you know, in fantasy land and just dreamy. And then nothing ever gets done. And it's just all this constant bouncing back and forth. So I needed a plan to make it to follow through.
And so for those of you that are following along on the Enneagram and you're maybe new to it, your wings, they're just like this extra special sparkle to our personality. They're like tools in the tool belt. I like to say, if you. If you're doing a DIY project, having the right tools for the job make things go a lot easier, and it's a hell of a lot more fun. And your wings, some people dominate one way, some people dominate the other. Some toggle between the two, like I do. Some don't use any. The goal is to be able to use all the facets of the Enneagram and to be able to tap into both sides. But it takes some growing to do that. And your wings fall on either side of your number. So Monique, as a seven, has the ability to tap into that eight and the six, the loyal skeptic or the active challenger. And so you just heard her explain when she's like the. This innovator visionary enthusiast, like, you're right. Sometimes, like, you can get into the dreamy land and need some. Some backup dancers here to say, hey, lady, we got some shit to do.
That's right.
I love it. So what has the impact been on your business?
Integrating the Enneagram not just in you, but how you lead others, which is huge in network marketing. To be able to leverage your leadership is powerful. And that duplicates right.
For sure. For sure. And leading myself and taking charge of me, I was able to show up different for the team. I'll just be honest. And with that and me changing and people would come to me on my team and say, thank you. Thank you for showing up for you, because you just created a completely different culture. And it's been really cool to see the business is just growing, growing. And when you're leading yourself, I truly believe this. You're attracting different. Right? I'm not scattered now. Do I get scattered? Heck, yeah. But when I'm leading myself, I attract different people, for sure.
And not just in business, but in your friendships. So how have your friendships changed as a result? I know I've worked with a few of your friends too. Like, Monique, by the way, is such a believer in this. I mean, some of her teammates, her husband, some friends. Like, she's got everybody speaking the language. And it's helpful, isn't it?
So helpful. I truly believe that when I find something that I'm super passionate about and it's working in my life, I want others to know about it because this has been such a great tool. So friendship.
I've just become a different kind of friend. I'm not the friend of just spacey, flighty fun. I can speak truth to people. I can set healthy boundaries. Now that was a really hard thing for me to do. I just show up different. I can listen more instead of soliciting advice. I was known for listening to react or listening to respond. I like to say, and now I can just listen.
Yeah, that's a trap that a 7 can get into is because your. Your monkey brain is going. You're like, okay, okay. Like, I just want this story to continue. So I want to interject so you're not really listening. And people feel that. So I love that you said that. And, you know, as a mom of.
Four.
And this was like, the pivotal moment for me, why I was so open to the enneagram is I knew, you know, you had some rough stuff growing up. So did I. And I've said before, if you don't repair it, you repeat it. We do what we're taught, told, and modeled. And when we come from an environment that is challenging and dysfunctional, we will repeat it if we don't know a different way. And I remember your oldest was seven at the time when we started working together, and you were recognizing yourself in him. How has it shifted in parenting? You've got him, You've got a set of twins, and then you got the baby.
Oh, I'm getting emotional. I can cry just thinking about this. And I think that really thinking back, that was one of the main things that when I came to you trace was I felt like my ship was burning. It wasn't just business. The business was the bonus, the icing on the cake. It was my relationship with my husband and my children. I did not know how to effectively communicate with everyone. And listen, I am that mom. So if you know me, I am the dance party. I mean, we have dances going on. I am going to throw the biggest, baddest birthday party with all the water slides and all the things and make it fun. But I also had to look at my kids and get on their level. And working with you, you taught me to approach things different and have love and compassion in a different kind of way. Getting on the level and just being open with my kids and having conversations, admitting when I'm wr going to them and talking about it. And my son Michael, who, oh, my gosh, he's special. So special. And he's a lot like his mama. And he's able to come to me where as a kid, when things would burn or people would say hurtful things, I wanted to escape. I escaped in food. As I grew into teenage years, I escaped into drugs and alcohol. You know, that's part of my story. Just what's fun, the next thing. And he's able to come to me and talk to me and not he can pause. And we have that communication, that relationship.
One of the things that I love about seven sevens and threes have a really hard time with this. But once they really understand the effectiveness of this, like, it's a game changer for you guys, this slowing down to speed up. Yes, this is huge. For a seven, especially in relationships. Because when you're go, go going all the time, the you love and care about can feel like they're not being heard or like you don't really care because you're moving on to the next thing. How has slowing down changed your marriage.
Man? Slowing down, I love that. And that's what I always say, slow down to speed up. Monique. That's like my little motto. Because my marriage, I can listen to my husband. I understand where he's coming from with certain things. I don't have to be right. I can get into a really unhealthy place and being a business partners together, if he's going against something I'm saying, I'm like, oh, hell no. We're about to fight right now. And it was becoming this unhealthy power trip of proving points and this debate for no reason. I'm able to step back and say, oh, okay, wait a second, is it worth it right now? Or how can I express myself to make him really understand what I'm trying to say instead of reacting and taking defense?
One of the things that I realized, you know, because my seven daughter, her and I get along great until.
It has to be her way or the highway. Which is so weird because if, you know sevens, there's just like, whatever, let's it's everything's great and no problem and let's do it. And then all of a sudden under stress, under extreme stress, when they're avoidance and you know, the vice of the seven is gluttony and this need for more, for more, for more. And when like all hell's breaking loose, they go into their stress number, which is the enneagram one, which is the unhealthy parts of it. And I've realized that when O7 goes into that all of a sudden they turn into this rigid, crazy person sometimes.
Because they feel so out of control that all of a sudden this perfectionism comes into play. And to an 8, it feels very disrespectful and challenging. So with Austin being an eight, I could see where that would battle. But you two met at a time where you both were at rock bottom and you guys share this publicly. So I know you don't mind me bringing this up. You know, it was what, about nine years ago in recovery?
Almost 10. Yeah, 10 years ago in recovery, we met.
Amazing. So living with an 8, I know how challenging it can be. How have you leaned into all the components of your type to help bring out the best and not emasculate your husband, because I think as a business owner and as a fireball and an east coast girl and all the things. And aren't you a. What is your birth sign?
I'm a Virgo.
Oh, God. On top of it. Yeah. How do you use. You don't alter who you are. You don't, like, dim your light down. But how do you also empower and encourage and love and treat your husband.
With respect? That brings out the best of him and doesn't, like.
Cut him off at the knees.
I have to get myself into gear, myself into check. Right. And I have to say, like, he has so many great ideas, and I built him up in his gifts and his talents of what he's able to do, because I can't do what he does. You know, he's disciplined and, you know, structured. I mean, I'm laughing right now thinking of it. We went to Legoland with the kids yesterday, and it started downpouring. And of course, he pulls out his backpack and he has a freaking raincoat, and I'm a soaking wet. Like, he's always prepared and, you know, and I love that about him. So I have to stop trying to challenge him and let him lead in his abilities and what he's great at, because he's great at a lot of things that I can't see. They're my blind spots.
Okay, we're going to talk about blind spots in a minute, but what's one of the. Like, it's. It was amazing because I remember when you and I started working together, you're like, I want him to work with you. I want him to work with you. I'm like, listen, first of all, from what you're telling me, I'm kind of gathering what we're dealing with here, and that won't fly if it's your suggestion. And I will never for. And I say this to everyone, and I remind myself of this back, you know, almost a decade ago when I wanted to change my life. We can't do these things and expect somebody else to do it. The best way to have somebody else on board to their own journey of growth is to walk your own talk without expectation that they should walk yours as well. And when was it that he started looking at you? Like, I remember he was working with somebody at the time, and you would come off calls with me, and you wouldn't even, like, tell him much, but he would kind of catch parts of it.
Oh, yeah.
When do you think it was the aha for him to say, I need to look into that, too.
Okay, so this is so funny. We got off a call one time, and I'm like, I love you so much. And you're like, I love you too. He's like, did you just tell her you loved her?
He's like, how do you like that connection? And I'm like, oh, you have no idea. Yeah, I do. Like, she's helping me in so many ways. And I think for him, it was just him seeing a difference in me and how I was showing up. Honestly, leading yourself.
Yep. Seriously, it's the best way to lead others. It really is. Whether it's your children, your partner in life, your businesses, anybody that you work alongside, the people at the grocery store to be like, how we make the world better is by us being better. And I love that you mentioned blind spots. And, you know, each enneagram type has very specific blind spots. And I don't care how much work you do, no matter what. Just like when you're driving a car, you can have the nicest car in the world, and it's you. You still gotta check your blind spot, otherwise you're gonna wreck it. Right. Same thing with our. Our Enneagram. So what. What did you realize your blind spots were that you hadn't seen for decades, that you are constantly keeping an eye on now?
Living in the. In the moment. For me, I have to really secure myself and ground myself and live in the moment and not, you know, being fan. I can fantasize, I can go. I can plan out the whole next year. I can plan out parties in my head, all of it. And I had to. Or what other people have the gluttony part or fear of missing. Like, I had to be okay with Monique, in a healthy sense, in right now, because right now is what mattered.
That's a huge thing. That is a huge thing. The other thing that, you know, sevens are driven by the motive of certainty, you know, and they need to be certain they're not going to ever be stuck doing the same thing. They want possibilities, options at all times. And that's why, like, all the things is like your, like, bumper sticker. All the Give me all the things. All the things at all the times. And, yeah, you do miss the miracles in front of you. And when you're a mama and you start to recognize that your kids don't feel like. Like you're in the moment, that's when they start to act out. And, you know, mine looked very different, but it was the same kind of thing. Like, whoa, whoa, partner. So how do you. When you catch yourself in that blind spot, I know that you used to whip out the shame stick and beat yourself up, and then a whole different cycle would continue. Right. How when you catch yourself? Because it's always going to be the thing you have to keep an eye on.
Yeah.
When you catch yourself now, how does that go?
The dialogue, love and compassion. I actually have a lot of grace for myself, and I make a joke of it, like, oh, let's get back here, honey. Let's get back to the moment right now. Because if I am living in two steps forward or, you know, what's next? What's next? I'm. Like you said, I'm missing everything that's happening in front of me, and I don't show up well for anyone. I really don't. So if I want to show up great for my children, I have to stay in the now. If I want to show up great for my husband and our time together, I have to stay in the now. So I just kind of make a joke out of it with myself and bring myself back.
One of the things that I talk to you a lot, I talk to myself a lot. I talk to everybody about. Because it's one thing to have corrective action, right? We can take corrective action all day long, but if we don't understand the motive behind it, it's not really usually sustainable, and it's usually just a band aid. And really the only way to have sustainable change is through love and compassion. Now, that's easier said than done. Like, we can throw compassion. Oh, I love myself. But when you have grown up with a skewed idea of what love is, or it had conditions or it was dysfunctional, the way that you love yourself may dysfunctional and won't get you unstuck. So one of the things that, you know, you and I talked about was little Monique. And you know how we really. How I have learned to have compassion is thinking about little T. Because whenever I start to act out, I know that there's a scared little girl inside of me that believes that she's going to be violated, betrayed, put in a vulnerable situation for you. When you're getting like that, little Monique's like, I'm going to be stuck. No, no, no. I don't want to be stuck here. No, let's. Let's move on. This is too painful over here. This. This thing that we were dealing with in the home is way too painful. So let's go fantasize over here. In the past, you've beat yourself up when you catch yourself. How do you tap into that little girl in you today?
I tell her, I have to get back. Girl, I have your back. And we're gonna. We're gonna get through this, and you're okay. I always let her know that she's okay.
So I know that you obviously, probably more than any client I've had, believe in this, because I work with a lot of your people and your husband and people you care about and family and all of that. So for the person listening right now, that maybe is like an Enneagram junkie or just learning about it. Why is it important to not just take one of those online tests that. That are inaccurate? 65, 65 to 70% of the time, Especially because you're. You're a perfect example of using the framework of it. If you have the wrong information, you're gonna be going in the wrong direction all the time. So what would you say to the person listening right now? It's like, yeah, I like the Enneagram. It's cool. It's a great party game. But I'm hearing that it's way more than that. What would you tell them right now?
If it's placed on your heart, right, and you finding interest in it get typed. I always say, know what you are, and I will tell you. Trace. I actually had one of my posts come up on Facebook from a couple of years ago that I got typed and, you know, and I put it out there and what is your Enneagram type? Right? And guess what? My top one was an eight. I've been so mistyped, and I'm so thankful that, you know, working with you and learning about me and if you want to lead yourself and you want to show up differently for others around you, it's just such a freaking cool tool.
I think that, you know, most of us, you know, I've got some years on you, but I think most of us, if we start unpacking our life, even if we had great. We have a great life and have had a great life, there are some components in our life that have got us stuck in certain areas, sometimes more than others. And I think when we are introduced to personal development, which is at our fingertips today, I'm a first generation personal developer. I think you are too. When we have all this information and try this and try this and Tony Robbins says this and, you know, this, this guru says that, and we start, then we end up throwing a bunch of shit up at the wall and nothing's sticking, or we have this new Awareness. But nobody's really telling us what this means and what this, the work is and what I have found that no matter who you are, no matter where you've come from, when it comes to unpacking this, the Enneagram is a beautiful tool to not just only help you unpack it, but to make sense of it and reroute the way the story's going in a way that all the stuff that you've been through has mattered for something beautiful. Where you're headed is exactly who you were destined to be before the world got ahold of you. And I love seeing how you and your entire family now have integrated this and are leaders in your home and leaders in the community and in your businesses. It's so beautiful to watch the two of you take this framework and this system and use it in your lives and everybody that you touch. Girl, you are amazing.
You are amazing. I'm just so thankful for you. And just this tool, this is what I was looking for. That was a fun system to integrate in my life that would allow me to learn who Monique was, why little Monique operated the way she did, where I went under stress, where I went under when I was healthy, who I am.
Yeah. And when we can effectively lead ourselves, we can so beautifully lead other people without our own agenda, because that's not leadership. Leadership is bringing out the best in every single person for the vision of their life and the mission at hand, and you're a perfect example of that. She shares so much of this journey, and, you know, she doesn't always talk the Enneagram talk, but you can see how her journey has unfolded. She's definitely one of my favorite people on social media to follow because her stories are beautiful. You get to see the ins and outs of all she does. Where can people find you and learn more about you?
Instagram. Monique Marieketron is my Instagram name. And then Facebook. Love Facebook for connecting with people. Monique Yatwa Ketron, what's one last thing.
You would want to leave? Maybe somebody who's struggling and where you were nine months ago? What would you want to say to them today?
Do it. Scared? You're scared, and you're hesitant right now because you know that there's going to be stuff that come up. I promise you that Tracy is a really safe place for you to work with. And I'm not blowing smoke up your ass or anything like that. I truly believe it because it's changed my life, my family's life, people in our business's life, our business by me leading myself, it's changed. We didn't even have to touch on any of the business stuff. I mean, we did go there, but.
It was just, oh, let's do that for a second. Because, for, you know, because I'm all about leadership and I am a great strategist and I'm business savvy. Her husband walked away from his career of 10 years.
In nine months.
In nine months, let's just say. So there's that component which is amazing. He's at home with his family doing what he is here to do. How much has the income changed on top of. You don't have to give exact numbers.
But, like, put it this way, he was able to walk away from corporate America. So it's, you know, it's so exciting. And, you know, serving others is just one of our things. And just to see him in his per. And that was another thing, seeing him learn about himself and being in his purpose. He's a completely different man.
You know, I was over the weekend, one of my very close friends passed away and he was a father of four as well, and just shy of 50 years old. And him and his wife are in my network marketing team. And I was able to see. I was, I saw her this weekend in the family. You know, our kids grew up together. And one of the, one of the first things, his wife, wife who embraced me and was crying, obviously sobbed and said to me was, thank you so much for what you do. Because the last nine years he was able to be home and at his best for the, for our kids and the work you do and the things you do in this world really do make a difference. So I appreciate you saying that. This is why I get up every day, not necessarily to retire husbands, although that's awesome, but it's so parents can be present, happy, abundant, and have choices and freedom that our parents didn't necessarily have. And so keep doing what you're doing in the world, both of you, because you are lighting the path for so many. And it's people like you why I wake up fired up to do what I do every day. So thank you for being so willing. Thank you for being here today and sharing so beautifully and candidly about this stuff. It's not easy. You're right. It's not easy to face some of this stuff. But when you do the way that you can move the needle emotionally, spiritually, physically and financially, it's unmatched. So, Monique, I love you.
