Hello and welcome to another episode of the Becoming Bulletproof podcast. And I'm excited to bring you this dynamic woman. Today I met her. Gosh, now it's been about a year and a half ago. I can't even believe it's been that long. And the minute I was in her presence, not only did I feel like the surge of calm, but also mad respect. And just the credibility oozing out of her was something that, you guys know me and, you know, I'm not easily impressed, but I was blown away by just her soul, her presence. And then I saw her do what she does so best, what she does so well from the stage, and I was like, well, that explains a lot. Like, she's just incredible. And you know, in her words, she's spent 10 years selling shit on QVC, which I love. And she's been on extra and everything, tv. And she has an amazing podcast called the Fire and Soul Podcast. And what I like, I love her podcast because it's, you know, in this world of the hustle and grind, which, I mean, let's just be real, like that's just a fast track to burnout and unfulfillment. And she's all about like, the ease, the flow, the alignment and doing things that our soul is calling us to do. And, you know, she's lived in that hustle and bustle world of tv and in her own journey, she's taken herself through processes and immersions to really find what that's about so she can teach it, right. You got to walk your talk. And she does that so beautifully. I am excited to bring you Michelle Sorrow, all the way from California to you. We'll get into more of her story, but I am just so honored that you are here. I can feel Your calmness. And it's something I needed today. Like, I was kind of feeling out of myself this morning and knowing that I was going to be speaking to you today. I know not only are you going to bless the socks off everybody that listens to this, but, wow, already within a few minutes, I feel your energy. So thank you for being here.
Oh, wow. Thank you for having me and what incredible kind words. I felt the same way when we met at the Mommy Millionaire event. We were both speakers. It was my very first, like, quote speaking gig, so I was nervous as hell.
It was.
Yeah.
Oh, my gosh.
People always wonder how I could be nervous for speaking gigs or anything new or launching a podcast or launching a new program after, you know, 10 years of TV and I still do the extra gig. I've been there for four years and I, you know, it's a weekly segment, so I'm not a main host or anything. I'm like. Because they're different, you know, it's different when you're just up there being vulnerable and just holding space on the stage and, you know, trying to remember it's not about me, it's only about others. All the things, right?
It was just tricky. Plus, I was, I think, speaking the second day, and I was after some badass speakers, including yourself, I think. And one by one, they had all said exactly what I planned to say. Do you remember that?
Yeah.
Oh, my God. I had to dig deep, right? Because I was already nervous, already looking for the excuses. And I'm so glad I didn't sell myself out. That's like, sort of like rule number one, right? What do I really need? Just to take care of myself, know that I'm enough, that I'm worthy, and know that whatever I'm going to say is not for me, it's for others. And if it lands on one person's heart, then I've done my job here. So. But when I met you, your energy, whatever you just said about me was so moving. But that's exactly how I felt about you. To me, you just represented such authenticity. So, so fun to see you again here.
Thank you so much. And, you know, what you said is so beautiful. You know, I was least likely on paper to be doing what I'm doing, you know, in grade school and high school and even college. Like, when it came to public speaking or auditioning, I was in the band or even playing sports. Like, when it came time to put myself on stage for anything, I would be so, like, sick. Like, I did auditions from a closet where they could hear me, but I'd be in a closet so people couldn't see me. And that was so symbolic about where I was and have been most of my life is, I don't. I want to fly under the radar because that's where it's safe. Even though I know I have a message to deliver. Even from the age of 10, I knew I had a message to deliver, but the belief that if I am to be seen, it is to be dangerous. And, you know, I know that you teach like, your zone is live video. You've been doing it for most of your career, and, you know, now you teach thousands of people how to leverage that, to convert and to really step into their purpose and share their gifts with the world. So what would you have said to somebody like me back then who definitely has a gift, definitely has a message, but is so freaking terrified of shining their light so bright because that belief is, it's not safe?
Well, not safe is so different than feeling scared because we feel like we might fail or we're not enough. So I'd probably want to know more before I just went in and said, well, you know, here's what you should do, or here's what you could do. Not safe is really special. That's a different kind of language. So I guess I would start with, what do you think was the root cause of not feeling safe?
Right.
And then from there, whatever that was, then, you know, if it felt like, okay, great, there's an opening, there's an entry point, then I would say what I say to everyone. I don't care if it's. I'm working with a presidential candidate right now on the Democratic side. I'm not political, but this person reached out, actually was a graduate of my live video mastery course, which is my signature course, who joined this person's campaign and said, oh, my gosh, you've got to work with Michelle, right, To pierce the video veil, to share more vulnerability and to really connect with their potential voter or the person that they really wanted to connect with online video. So Facebook lives and their lives, but their lives have been able to, like, double and triple in numbers. So that's been cool. But what's happened to them personally has been a. It's been a transformation. That's the same thing that happens to everyone. So what I always say is, you know, it's not about the live video. It's about who you need to be to step through the comfort zone. And I always say that the universe rewards the brave, the learning is in the doing, right? So you've got to be willing to be humble enough to just go from awkward to authentic, because it will happen. But the learning is in the doing. So you just got to go. You got to practice. And it's kind of like learning how to ride a bike or learning how to walk. When we were really young, right, we didn't give up. It was completely awkward. And while public speaking is usually most people's number one fear on the planet, and you make you up the ante with live video in front of your social peers on social media, that's like. It can feel so, so terrifying. But when you bust through that even one or two or three times, and if your hands are shaking, your heart's racing, you're sweating down your back, but you do it. It's a rush. It's a rush because you're owning who you are, and then it becomes slightly addictive. So what I do is I create safe places. So I have a group that's on Facebook that there's almost 3,000 people in there, and it's closed. It's safe. Safe and contained. So the only people that are in there are the people who are doing live videos. And it's got six continents now represented around the world. I get chills thinking about it, because right now, currently, as we're recording in real time, they're in the middle of a love challenge. So just show us how you see love, how you experience self love, and how you experience love in the world. So it takes the pressure off themselves, but it gives this lens of it's all about love. So it's beautiful what's happening in there, and it's the most uplifting Facebook group I've ever been a part of, and I'm so honored that I get to lead it. But what I know is, is that there's places in which you can do it where you don't feel like you're the outlier or, oh, my God, what are people gonna think? Because the number one reason why we don't want to do anything where we. We would feel unsafe is because it's usually around what would others think? And what would the others think is typically stemmed by what would I think? And we judge ourselves by imposter syndrome. Feeling like a fraud, feeling like we're not going to be good enough. And so when we can just take a few breaths and let that go and be courageous and just step forward out of our comfort zone, everything that we want is just outside of it. Is that a Helpful answer.
Yeah, it was beautiful.
How do you go from constantly behind video? Like, it's so funny that you said you were nervous about speaking in front of a crowd because for some reason I have an easier time when I can feel, see, touch, the energy rather than put like a camera in front of my face. And I mean, I do live video all the time and I've gotten through that. But kind of scripted video is something else, right? Like, that's a whole different beast. Like, what do you recommend for people that are getting their feet wet in live video? Do they have script ready to go? Do they go on instinct? You know, because a lot of people are like deer in the headlights.
Totally. Such a good question. So I definitely do not recommend a script in the very, very beginning, depending on what they're doing live video for. Like, for example, I'll just take the presidential candidate that I've been working with since November. They have three bullet points, beginning, middle, and end. That's it. But super succinct, like four to five words for each bullet point. And in that live video, as long as they can go through that arc, then we're good. But in general, I don't even recommend a bullet point. And what I say is, if you're very, very new and it's going to be your first one, just come on and just. Even if it's just for a minute, just share your name, who you are, and maybe show us something fun, light and easy about your life. Maybe introduce us to a pet. Show us your backyard, Take us around your office, take us to the park, take us on an adventure. Live is what I call it. But don't have it be like a big deal. Because what stops a lot of people, and I bet you can imagine this is true, maybe you experience it yourself, is they think that they have to have some sort of momentous message, that their message has got to like, change the way world. And it's like, no, that will not happen. You'll end up getting better. You'll start speaking from your soul over time. But in the beginning, that doesn't happen. You're so consumed with, what do I look like? What do I sound like? What am I going to talk about? You can't get there. It's not authentic in the beginning. Every once in a while I come across a unicorn, an absolute natural, where I'm like, damn, that is incredible. But it rarely, rarely really happens. And it wasn't. It didn't even happen for me. Even after 10 years and 4000 hours of live TV experience. It did not happen for me. Why? Because I was scared to death of what my friends from grade school would think or what my ex boyfriend's family would think or what my current friends would think. And so I was just consumed. And I think that that's everybody's biggest blind spot is being obsessed with other people's opinions and just really lusting after their approval. So if we can let go of this idea that it needs to be a momentous message and just come on and keep it really, really light and easy and fun, it's really helpful. And then just come back again. Because the other thing that I always, always remind my students of is that everything that we want is on the other side of consistency. You can't just do it once and expect to feel comfortable or natural again. There's that rare unicorn, but extremely rare. It's usually after about 30 lives and if you can do 30 in a row, you can't even remember what it felt like to ever have a nerva day in your life or to ever be consumed with, oh my God, is this lighting good? Right? You'll just rock and roll. So I always say, just let it rip. Now in my programs, even in the free Facebook Live challenge group, we offer like a hundred different topics. What's your favorite flavor of ice cream? Right. Your favorite vacation? What's on your bucket list? Favorite moment of last year? What did you do during the holidays? Just share something easy and light. Some people like to go funny, some people like to go really earnest. I don't care what it is, but just keep it like a one little topic that's super easy to have a conversation about.
And why is it so important to do that? Why is it so important? If you have nothing like powerful and profound to say, then why go on there and share just random stuff? Does that just show authenticity? Is it practice? What is that about?
So I know a lot of your listeners are just like us, right? Coaches, trainers, experts, maybe emerging influencers. So I have never found anything to be more effective. And all the programs that I've been teaching now for almost two years and I've taken hundreds and hundreds of people through just my paid programs. Well, a lot of them are masterminds, right? And so as they would exit the mastermind with these epic results, launch new businesses, lost £50, wrote and published a book, quit smoking, quit drinking, whatever the things were, right, that were at the top of their outcomes from the beginning of the program. I would also simultaneously put everyone through a 30 day Facebook Live challenge and this is inside our smaller groups of like, maybe 70 or 80 people in some of these masterminds. And as I would run exit surveys, because I'm all about research, I would ask them what was the single biggest takeaway in this last 90 days that you experienced, knowing that some of them had those epic results. And 100% said it was the Facebook Live Challenge. Like, what? So this is before I had my free group and all those other things. This is before I even taught courses on it. This was all 2018, beginning of 2019. So then I dug deeper and I asked if they would come on, like a little think tank, you know, zoom call with me. So I got all of my graduates into a zoom call, and it was like you all said the Facebook Live Challenge group was the most profound takeaway. Why? And every single one of them said, whether it was a seasoned CEO of like a Fortune 500 company, an accomplished attorney who owns her own law firm, or a stay at home mom, it didn't matter. It was was extremely diverse, right? But they're all emerging influencers in some way or another. Like the space that we're in, the transformational space. And they were like, because of what it gave to me internally, I could own my presence. I could own my power. I didn't give an F about what anyone thought. And when I became authentic, I realized that translates to life. So not only am I online, letting myself rip and trusting myself to connect with anything and anyone at any time, I realize, oh, my gosh, I can do that standing in line at the grocery store when I get asked to speak up at a corporate office meeting, or when I got asked to take the stage as a Realtor in Boston for this annual Realtor event. Oh, my gosh, I didn't have to think. I just got out there and I owned myself. So then I realized, oh, my gosh, live video is not about just live video and learning where to look in the camera and learning what to say. It's a mastery of self, and it's a personal transformation. And by the way, that same principle is what I teach everywhere. So studies have shown that live video is going to disrupt all sales and marketing endeavors starting now. Right? Many have been talking about this for two years. I got on it over a year ago. It's completely transformed my business. It's allowed me to reach corporations like Facebook that I'm now partnered up with, and I'm working with a lot of their Fortune 500 companies that work in their arm called Workplace, the presidential candidate, all these amazing Things that are happening. Why? Because millennials are showing. Millennials and younger. The studies have proven that they want and require and demand authenticity, transparency and accessibility in order for them to build on that no like trust factor, which is essential in marketing. Right. I would even call it the no love trust factor. The fastest and most effective way you can do it is through live video. Because live video, you can't hide. You're not hiding behind a filter, perfectly curated content that you're probably really expensive, copywriter curated for you. You can't hide behind a pre produced video with perfectly, you know, crafted captions. It's just you letting it rip. And guess what happens to your viewer. That one viewer that I always say you're speaking to. Not to 100, not to 10,000, one person at a time when you can connect intimately. They're like, she's talking to me, right? Because you know exactly who you're talking to, which is what I teach in my courses. But when that person gets a sense of your energy, it's like being in real life. So it's a game changer on every single level.
Wow.
That.
You know what? Like, when I think about the trajectory of my last seven, eight years of business in this space, the online space, and you know, like I said, I was terrified of speaking. And I also knew that I had a voice to share and I started out messy and doing all the things. And you're 100% right in what you said. Like, if I could do it, anybody could do it. And the number one thing I hear from anybody that has ever watched any video of mine is I felt like you were talking directly to me.
Beautiful.
And for those of you listening right now that are terrified to do it, just know. And what you said so beautifully earlier about when you do get out of your own way and I do the same thing and you know, I've coached people through this. Like, if you touch one person, you never know the ripple effect of one person. Think about the ripple effect of one person named Oprah Winfrey or the ripple effect of one person named Michelle Sorrow. Like, think about that. Like one person can, can change everything for the greatest good. So thank you for reminding me though, that I need to do more of it. I've kind of gotten out of it. And I can tell you right now, my confidence isn't as high as it was when I was doing it. So I love that.
Why is that? Is it just because you got out of practice?
Why am I not doing it as much?
No, why is your confidence not as High. So that's why you. You don't want to do it.
Quite honestly, back then, I was ignorance on fire, and I didn't have as much to lose if I'm being completely transparent. And now because I'm seen as somebody who actually is really fucking good at it, and I'm like, I don't feel good at it right now. Like, when I was ignorance on fire, I had nothing to lose and everything.
Ignorance on fire thing, oh, my God, you still have nothing to lose, by the way.
I know.
Yeah. That's all just, you know, ego and our, like, oh, my God, what will people think? But, but, but here's the thing. I think it will exponentially grow your business and your impact because of that authenticity factor that you just can't get behind a podcast mic. Right? Which I love podcasting. And, you know, I've got one too, and I can't wait for you to come on. Is. Is that accessibility, that transparency, you know, when it's. It's crazy because I was the judgy eye roller, you know Nicole Sa. Yeah, totally. So she's a dear friend of mine and she was also a speaker at that same Mommy Millionaire event that we were both at. And I started my Facebook lives because of her. So I'll share this really quickly because I have a feeling there might be someone who can completely relate to this. So it was two years ago, a little over two years ago, where we had already met and we became friends and then became friends on Facebook. And then we also did SoulCycle classes at the same place as Santa Monica occasionally. And so, and I knew that she was already a spiritual success coach and making her way. Like, she was already like a multiple six figure earner. And that was at that point a dream, right? I was like, oh, my God, how could I do that? But then I started noticing she did a whole bunch of Facebook lives and I was that judgy eye roller, right? I was like, who does she think she is? Get off my feed, girl. Like, and I unfollowed her because I was so triggered by these little movies or TV show. Who does she think she is? Because two years ago she was badass brave, right? Like, nobody was doing that two years ago except, like Gary Vaynerchuk and Nicole Sylvester, at least in my feet. And I was just like, Gary, he had a right, right? He built that business up. He was Gary. But Nicole, who do you think you are? So judgy Iwiller. And then I see her in a soul cycle class, and I didn't know at that time. Could someone tell if you unfollowed them? Right? So I'm dying. I'm like, oh, my God, I'm gonna have to chat with her when the class is over. And, oh, my God, do I tell her? Do I not tell her? But I still am judging it. I don't like it. I think it's like, whatever. And so we're walking to our cars after the class, and I just said, I have to come clean. Nicole, I don't know if you know, but I unfollowed you on Facebook because I was just so triggered by all the Facebook lives, girl, you do them every day. So on one hand, I wanted to, like, school her and judge her and yet come clean with her. It was a bizarre conversation that I had to do because that's just my style. And she looked at me like any great success coach would, spiritual success coach. And she said, if it triggers you that much, that I would encourage you to try it. I was like, no, I could never do that. And then I was like, oh, my God, I'm afraid of it. That's why I'm so triggered. And so anytime now, I get triggered. I'm like, all right, school's in session. Let's dive in, right? And so she challenged me to 30 days of Facebook Live. And it was a few days before Valentine's Day 2018. And I said, you know what? I'm going to do it on Valentine's Day for 30 days. It'll be my ultimate act of self love, because I'm scared as shit to try this. And I didn't have a Facebook group that was closed, safe, and contained where I could do it in total privacy. I was going to go out there on my little feed, and I don't know who I thought I was, but you know what I mean? Like, the ante is high. And so I did do it, and I did do 30. I deleted most, which I'm so bummed that I did. Now I tell everyone, do not delete. Even if you just save it to your phone, just don't delete. Because you're going to be so proud one day, right? You're going to be able to track that progress. But so I did it. By the end of those 30 days, I was hooked. Launched my first paid mastermind, thanks to Chris Harder, inspiring me to do so. And that's when I started having everyone do Facebook lives. So it was an incredible journey. But that whole thing of being scared or resisting or being triggered, lean into that, that's a nudge calling you forward out of your comfort zone. And you owe it to yourself, because we're made for so much more than to live in our fear.
Oh, that's so beautiful. And I love, because I get told a lot, that I trigger people.
Yeah. And back in the day, I thrived before I really worked on myself. I actually really liked that because it was a compensatory strategy of mine. Because if I triggered you, that means I intimidated you, which means you would leave me the fuck alone and I could be safe from you. Today, obviously, in my beauty, my beautiful souled self that I worked very hard to find underneath all that wreckage, I know that when I trigger somebody, it's because they are getting that nudge, that it's time. It's time to make that move. And so, because I know that whatever I'm putting out is in love. Not, you know, my own fear, but it's in love that when I am that conduit for change, whether it's a trigger or not, I take that as a compliment today for the right reason. Right. Not. Not for, like, my ego reason. So I love that she said that to you. Knowing Nicole, I could totally see her saying that to you. I love it.
Badass. She's got a great path to the Harmonious Hustle. I mean, talk about triggering people. That woman, she just leaves a trail of triggers everywhere she goes. And so does Panache Desai, my spiritual mentor. You and I chatted about him right before we hit record. Panache Desai is a massive trigger for so many people. Why? Because he's speaking truth. And sometimes it's hard to hear it, and the ego doesn't want to. It's like, it's not safe. Abort. Abort. Get out. Go. Run. Go to what's easy. Go to people who promise you you can do it fast, and if you just do this, you can grow this. No, none of that works. It's a house of cards.
It is a house.
Or 100 grand on their Facebook ads a month. There's a problem, right? It's like, you can't do anything fast. And so the people that are living authentically, the people that I follow, the people that I connect with, the people that I align with, are usually the people who trigger. They don't trigger me. My soul's like, yep, they're speaking truth. They're so themselves. They don't sell out for anything. That's you, that's Nicole. That's Panache Desai. So, of course, we all know each other.
Of course we do.
Of course. Right. Because your vibe attracts your tribe.
You don't trigger me. No, no. And I know that. And it's so funny. I've had, you know, a lot of you that have come on the podcast are now my friends. And I have told people, like, when I first met you, you weren't one of those. But like, my friend Tiffany Carter, her and I are really great friends. And I remember telling her, like, when I met you, my, like, my physiology was triggered by you. And in the past, I would have run from that. Instead of that, I ran to it because I knew that, like, that meant you were supposed to be in my life to help me grow in a certain way. And obviously the friendship is, like, magical and all that. But I've.
I love Tiffany, by the way. Yeah, she's my girl. So speaking of her. Oh, my God. And I love that, by the way, I love that you could lean into that and recognize that for yourself. And that's a little nugget for your listeners because when we're triggered, it's not about them, it's only about us. Right? And you know that phrase, what others think of me is none of my business. You know what I've learned to say? What I think of me is none of my business.
Right.
It's just so true. But Tiffany is another person where she and I, about a year ago started getting on that bandwagon of fuck going fast, fuck rushing, the hustle, the grit and the grind. We're going to take a bubble bath, which she loves to do, right at noon on a Tuesday. And we're gonna still get a massive results, but through inspired action and through soul alignment and through going slow. Because I always say, if this is what you're made for, and a lot of your listeners probably are getting that nudge or they're on that journey, right? Especially if they're working with you. It's like, then this is your legacy. And if it's truly your life's legacy, then there is no rush.
Everyone that we're inspired by, it's usually their 10, 20, 30, 40 year success. You look at Brene Brown, 20 years later, Oprah Winfrey, who's like, my massive Inspiration, you know, 30 years later, Michelle Obama, Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield, whomever your people are, if they're around and you're inspired, they got decades of experience, decades of ignorance on fire that they've been able to refine, right? They've been able to aim like, wait a, what do I really want to be doing? What do I really want to be talking about? Who do I really want to serve? And it changes. And the more authentic that we get and the more that we own ourselves in that alignment of going slow and saying no way more than we say yes, then we start to clear the path. You know, we say that action breeds clarity, but it's not just action. It's inspired action. And the only way to we can get to the access of what that even means is you got to slow down.
Oh, I love that you are speaking my language today, sister. That is so beautiful. And I love what you said about, like, anybody that we're really inspired by today has at least a decade of work that nobody really saw. Right. And I want to ask you that because, like, listening to you now and meeting you in the space that I did, obviously you got a couple decades under your belt before all of a sudden, I'm Michelle Sorrow, and I'm, you know, live media strategist and all this thing. Right. So where did you, like, where did you see yourself going as young Michelle? Because I certainly didn't see myself at all doing any of this.
Oh, okay. That's a good question. The truth is, is that when I was about four or five, I knew that somehow I had to get my voice out there. But at 4 or 5, growing up in a small town called Bellingham, Washington, I thought it was to be an actress. So then I was an actress all through high school, beginning of college, and I would put on. I would do plays in my backyard, et cetera. And then I moved to Los Angeles and I started getting a few roles like commercials and a few gigs on soap operas and things like that. And I pursued that probably till my late 20s. And I realized that's not what I want to do. There's just too much pressure. I didn't have the business acumen for it. I didn't know anyone in my world that was really happy doing that. They were all broke and scared and insecure. That was just in general. I know a lot now that aren't, but. So that was my world, and I didn't have anyone to model after that. It was healthy. Plus, I was hit on by every casting director or agent, and I never sold out in that way. So that was just my experience. And it was the universe saying, nope, nope, nope. So I was like, okay, but still in that theme, what if it's hosting? So then I started pursuing TV hosting, and then I went to UCLA and I got a certificate. I didn't get a degree, a certificate in broadcast journalism, which ended up being a profound program for me. And then that led to 10 years of working on TV. And I did not think that the TV work would be selling product. I feel bad that I said sh T because I don't mean shit, because I totally honor and respect.
I know. We know what you mean.
Entrepreneurs behind the business. Brands. It's so hard to get a brand out there. And especially on the qvc. It's such a beast. I mean, people not know this, but sometimes the sales quotas for one hour to sell your shit on QVC is 10 to 20 million dollars for an hour.
Oh, my God.
The stakes are high. It's no joke. So after I got a chance to work there, I had mad respect. But that live TV experience, although it didn't show up in the. In the world of like, oh, working red carpets, you know, in entertainment, it was such a gift. Of course you can connect the dots looking back, but as then I was doing that for almost 10 years and then I got the roll on extra and the whole thing. I realized along the way when I went to a Tony Robbins program called Date with Destiny, he only does it one time here in the States. I cannot recommend it enough. It's a five day program. It's super intense. It's beautiful. The curriculum is so well done. But I went in there with one goal, Toni. Please, please, please help me figure out how to go from my little one hour gig on Extra a week and turn it into a full time, you know, entertainment host gig. And by day four, this was about two and a half years ago, I fully woke up and I realized, oh my God, what I'm here to do is exactly what I thought it was, but it's not in the way that I thought it was. I need to own my own voice. I need to master my own message. And I didn't even know what that looked like. So I was like, well, what would that be? The how the how the how just messes up so many people in the beginning. And I kept remembering Reverend Michael Beckwith from Agape say, let the how be the wow. And I was like, that's so good. Let the hell be the wow. Okay, so if I was brave and if I was bold, what would that. What would it look like? And I was like, maybe a podcast. So it started with a podcast and then that just led to so many other things. And so now I look back to that four year old little girl and I'm like, I am doing exactly what I was made for. I Don't need to be famous. I though I don't need the world to know about me. I just need to affect one person. And that actually makes me want to cry because it's so sincere. It's like if I can reach one person and change their life, like when I get voice memos or messages on Facebook or Instagram or whatever, I always respond with a voice message. I mean, nothing lights me up more than to create the intimacy and the connection to let them know they're heard, they're seen, they're valued, right? Like, it's so personal to me and my business is still at the point where I can do that. But I don't know if I'll ever lose that because I remember when I got a message from Tony on Instagram, Tony Robbins, it was like such a big deal, you know, and I'll never forget it. And I've gotten messages from other people like him. I'm like, oh my gosh, that's actually them. And so that makes a big deal no matter where you are in your journey. But when I look back and I connect all the dots because life is so beautiful when we do that and we can appreciate our path and know that everything was lining up for where we are right now. And I just like, oh my God, now I know it's. I could care less about the TV stuff. I don't ever. I don't. If Extra offered me a job today and even the last two years I felt this way, hey, we want you to be a full time host on Extra. I can tell you wholeheartedly it wouldn't, wouldn't matter if they offered me a million dollars a year. It is not my lane. I am in my lane. The little gig that I do there is complementary to my lane, but my lane is where I am. And so in there, there's no competition, there's no comparison, there's no rulebook. I get to create it. It's dynamic, it's fluid. And I honor that along the way. So I'm doing exactly what I'm made for. But it's not in the way that I thought it would be. But back then we didn't have the Internet, right? So how beautiful is it to step into this? And when I have coaches call me up and this happens regularly, it just happened last week. Someone that I immense mentored by said, actually this has happened twice in the last week. Michelle, can I pick your brain? And they're like high six figure, seven figure. Coaches own this space. My mentors, I really Want to break into TV hosting? Can you tell me what you did and all that? I was like, whoa, Every TV host I know wants to get off of that conveyor belt and wants to be doing this work. I share that with them and I say, okay, well, if you had to wave a magic wand, whose job was, would you have in tv? Because that's a good place to start, right? And they're like, oh, Ryan Seacrest. Another person said, oh, Oprah. And I was like, okay, first of all, Oprah's not even doing anymore. Those are huge people. You know, Number two, it's like those jobs just don't exist anymore. And so just to really answer your question though, I'll tell you right before I went to that Date with Destiny event where I realized I woke up and everything changed from there. And that's when I started everything. I had several meetings because I was getting meetings with top agents and managers in town because I was already on Extra doing my one little tiny segment. And so that was able to open doors because Extra is a big brand. And so I had about four different meetings. And I remember this one manager saying, if you could wave a magic wand, which is why now I asked that question and have anybody's job, whose would it be? I remember sitting in that meeting, I was so excited for that meeting because he had done Nancy o' Dell and Mario Lopez and, and Kit Hoover of Access Hollywood and all these people that like, I thought I wanted their job, but I realized, oh my God, it's like Oprah and Brene Brown and all these people that are not doing that. And I was like, shit, I think I might be in the wrong world.
Right?
That was so eye opening for me. So it's so important to understand what you really want, not what you think you want or what's a five year old little girl dream. What do you really want today when you get quiet and you can allow for time to in space? And I was like, shoot. And I still thought I wanted it because it was ego. So I went into Date with Destiny a week later thinking that's what I wanted. But it turns out, nope. What was pulling me forward was something entirely different.
I love what you said about like, what do you really want? And taking the time and space to figure that out. And you and I both know we live in a world where, you know, we're being bombarded with have it in 2.5 seconds, make zero to a million dollars yesterday, and here's the course of.
How to do it.
Yeah. And you know and that person is all of 21, right? Like, and I'm not knocking you millennials because I'm raising some, so I get that. But, you know, I think there's something to be said about allowing yourself to have the time and presence to really dig deep and figure out what it is you want. What it is you, you want. And not based on ego or comparison or imposter syndrome or what Susie on Instagram is doing or anything like that. And I love, you know, how your podcast has shifted more into, like, that, right? And even though you're super successful, you've got. I mean, you're spinning plates like a mofo, and yet you're. You're doing it with ease and calm. Maybe not the last few weeks, which we talked about, right?
I hit a threshold. And I was sharing this before we hit record. Like, I hit a threshold. I had double booked myself once, and I missed something else I miss. I miss actually coming on your podcast. And you're like, so sweet. Hey, remember? And I'm like, oh, nope. And so, you know, when, when, when you. I always call it the feather, the brick and the truck, right? First the universe hits you over the head with a feather, and it's like pretty, pretty light, pretty easy and easy to miss. And then there's a brick. The brick was that it was like missing appointments, mislocating my keys, losing my keys entirely. By the way, they're completely gone. Never had that happen a day in my life since I've been driving at 16 years old. Had to get a new key, got a new car. So it's like $700. That's kind of crazy.
My cable went out and my router went out as I was launching in the middle of the very first day of a brand new launching program. And so I had no Internet. I had to just like, it just died, right? And then I couldn't even, like, email them because I had no WI fi. It was pretty interesting. So that went on for about a week, and I was like, oop, here's the brick. Feather, brick, truck. Next up is truck. What does that mean? You get sick, maybe get in a car accident, Your house catches on fire, shit happens. And so the universe is always saying, hey, slow down, stop, realign. And so as I was sitting on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck driver to move my car to Audi so I could get a new key and get back home, and I was crying, I realized, this is a truck. Excuse me, this is a brick. And so I was able to figure that out. But in the midst of that, yes, I. I missed our appointment. But how beautiful, because I was able to see that very clearly. And I was like, okay, you need a team. You need a team now. And so I'm in the middle of that. And so I'd always had people helping, but here and there, piecemealing it out now it's like, no, this is a real business. This is actually a movement. It's expanding. And the only way that you can do what you're really here to do, and which is lead and create and innovate, is you've got to have everyone else doing all this other stuff. So, yeah, it was a big deal. There was something that you said, though. I want to just circle back to it.
I can't remember in this moment, was it the.
Everybody wants it right now and fast.
Was it that, well, that's a house of cards.
And by the way, anyone who promises you that I just want to share something right here and not to judge, because there's someone for everyone. Follow them on Instagram. And if they're putting out 500 stories a day, I don't care so much about the feedback because the feed usually has an assistant or a VA or an EA or someone doing that. Right. But the stories, if they're doing 100 stories a day, they are not living in alignment.
Correct.
It's a constant. Oh, my God, get this on Instagram. Share it, share it, share it, share it. It's like a desperate energy. I had to unfollow everyone that lived that way, even people I really like personally. And I'm like, you are not calm in your nervous system. You can't be. There's no way. Because you're doing that. Your assistant's not doing that. That's you doing that. You're posting that. There's selfies. That's you on the road, that's you in the car. And that kind of energy, number one, was making me feel like I'm not doing enough. So I was comparing and competing. Number two, it was like, I didn't feel good watching that. I was exhausted watching that. So I realized, just unfollow, right? I didn't unfollow, but just mute. Don't follow that stuff. Now, for some of us, that works. They like it. It's in rhythm. But I'm going to promise you right now, that's going to lead to burnout, fatigue and stress. Absolute overwhelm. So, yeah, we do have to listen to ourselves. Oh, I know what I wanted to say. In order to know what we really want, that's the hardest thing. So I want to share something. So Tony Robbins is one of my mentors. Right? I've shared this. He's one of many of my mentors. He's an important mentor because he's the first person that. His work at Date with Destiny woke my little soul up. Thank God forever for that program.
But one of my closest girlfriends is one of his master coaches. So she trains all the platinum partners in the Lions. And these are like big programs and like real sort of prestigious or whatever that you travel the world with him. And that doesn't call to me, but she coaches all of those people. And so they had a summit for the coaches. There's only like 40 of that level of coaches in his program. And it was back in November and it was in San Diego. And it's going to be like a half day training think tank thing. Tony showed up. Surprise. We didn't know he was gonna. They didn't know he was gonna come. So my friend Manny was sitting there in the room and he sat down with him for like three or four hours, just chill, laid back, completely caring. Like so sincere. Like the real deal of what you hope Tony is behind the scenes. Right. Many of them had never met him, you know, that kind of thing. So it was a real thing. And he shared with them. You know, he coaches people for. I don't think he does it anymore. But for a million dollars a year, you get one hour with him a month. It's a million dollars a year. He's known as the CEO whisperer. There's a 10 year wait list. Supposedly. I don't know if he's still doing it because this is like two, three years ago. But he shared with them. No matter who you're talking to, you got two questions to ask every single client. The first question is, what do you want?
The second question, if they can't answer that, is, what do you really want?
Blew them away. You mean what we've been training, we've been like, what? It all comes down to those two questions. And the thing. And he's like. And most people do not know how to answer either. So as simple as it could sound, to knowing or to asking yourself, what do you want? I still say that's not the entry point. Most people don't know how to answer that. What do you want? So I come back to what we really want is peace and harmony and joy and love and connection. To know our life has meaning and we can do that. Daily. It doesn't need to be attached to making a million bucks in five minutes. It doesn't mean to need to be attached to starving ourselves so that we're a perfect size 2 for the rest of our life, no matter what our age is. Right? Like, no, that's not what brings us peace, joy and harmony. So we can begin to cultivate that. But oftentimes it's just getting really present, taking a few deep breaths, getting quiet, allowing for space, and then ask the question, what do you want? And from there you're going to know and it'll be a baby step. And that's why Fire and Soul, my podcast turned and shifted after a year of having it out because I realized I don't want to talk to people who are hustling. It's the antithesis of what I believe because it didn't work for me. And I got so stressed out with that energy. People I was following on social for that first year that I just always felt like I was behind and I could never catch up. And I was always comparing against their 5, 10 years success. I was like, what do I want? And I was like, fuck. I want peace at any cost. And so if I make half as much money this year, I'm good with that because it'll grow. Remember, legacy takes time. So if we just keep going with inspired action, not manufactured, motivated, fast action. Just one little baby step of inspired action at a time, we're going to get there. You'll look back a year, two years, you're like, I've made so much progress. This, this is my dream. But it doesn't happen overnight.
Well, my goodness, I prayed for you this morning. Honestly, I was feeling, you know, I'm super happy. I have everything I could ever want. And yet there's this restless part of my spirit today. And boy, did I'm so glad that you missed our last appointment because I needed exactly what you said today. And I know I'm not the only one. Michelle Sorrow, where can people learn more about you and learn from you? Because I'm gonna go binge watch everything you do right now.
You're so sweet. Everything, including the podcast, which I can't recommend enough. I'm just honored that I get to talk to some of the people that I bring on because it's mostly interviews, just conversations. But michelle-sorrow.com is where you'll find everything, including all the pod episodes and all the programs and even the Facebook Live group that I mentioned that's free. Yeah, it's a beautiful Community. And our communities are merging ecosystems. Right. So your tribe is welcome to mine. My tribe will be welcomed into yours. I can't wait to have you on my podcast. And it's all just one beautiful family that's authentic.
And really on a mission to experience more meaning, more peace, more purpose, more connection to our soul, souls. So thank you so much. That, for me, is the embodiment of what it means to be bulletproof. Nothing can harm us, nothing can hurt our soul. Nothing. Not a thought, not an emotion, not a size on a scale. Right. When we're truly connected with our souls, we are bulletproof.
Absolutely. And I talk about that like my version of bulletproof back in the day was, like I said, intimidating, triggering people, because then you wouldn't touch me. And today it's like, no, I'm standing on the front line of my life saying, bring it all. And I can handle it. My soul can handle it. And my soul was so blessed by you today.
I know that a lot of people that have been listening to this conversation are like, they're like, okay, I need to get on live video. I need to get on live video. And they're going to because they trust me and I'm telling them they need to do that too. But I also know that you do a live video mastery digital course too.
Mmm, I do. It's my signature course. Thank you so much for asking about it. So in 2020, I'm only offering this course once digitally. Last year I only ran it digitally, but now I'm doing this event as a live event. But if people want to do it on a digital version, it's six weeks and the start date is May 5th. So we're not even promoting it or marketing about it now. But if. But if they come by, you know, and say hi, they'll obviously connect with me and hear more about it as we get prepared to launch. We'll probably begin to market that in April, but May 5th is the beginning of that six week course. Now, in my video, it's a two pronged system. I just want to quickly explain it. Not only will you learn to master your presence that we talked about here. Right. Really connecting to that one person, really understanding and getting clarity around who you're even been speaking to, which is part of the conversion blueprint that this course is developed around, but then you'll also absolutely learn how to convert any one into your program. It's a proven process that has now sold over $220 million worth of products and services. So it works across the board, it's worked for everyone and it's surprisingly simple, but yet it's not what you think it is. And it's real. It's authentic. I never tell anyone to sell anything. We're always sharing, we're always serving. And so once you master your presence on live video and then you understand this conversion blueprint language, that's how my students are able to get out and then be able to monetize immediately into anything that they want to offer.
I think every one of you that are listening right now, that want to lead people, inspire people, make an impact in the world, you need to do that. And you guys know I don't shout out anything I don't believe in 100%. And Michelle Sorrow, I am so grateful that you came into my life, not just today, but back 18 months ago when I met you. You are such a beautiful human being. So thank you for being here and taking time with all of us today.
I love you, girl. And we gotta meet IRL very soon.
I agree.
Tiffany in there.
Oh, for sure.
