Hello and welcome to another episode of the Becoming Bulletproof podcast. And if you are listening to this in current real life time.
Boy, has the world just shifted. The last few months we I'm recording this on June 1st, so the first six months of this year has probably felt like we are in some kind of weird movie. I don't know about you, but I've lived on this Earth for 48 years and every single day I'm like, you've got to be kidding me. And I'm not saying that all the craziness.
You know, I try to find positivity in pretty much everything and that doesn't mean putting your head in the sand. I just want to preface that it doesn't mean I'm oblivious to what's happening in the world.
Because I am very, very aware. Even if I try not to be aware because I don't get on TV very much. I have limited social media as far as the scroll hole a lot. But because of who I am and my enneagram8ness, I'm very intuitively and instinctively can feel energy even when it's not right in front of me. And it was interesting. The reason I wanted to record this last night is my son and I had a conversation and you he's an Enneagram too. If you've been following along for any length of time, you know that. And I've been watching him because the Twos traditionally are like the most empathetic. And especially with so much going on in the world and injustice and just crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy. The Twos in the world really feel like they got to be doing something to help people. And I've been really proud of him because he has such healthy boundaries as a two a 22 year old male too. Today but last night, I could feel the heaviness in his heart. You know, the quarantine and the coronavirus, that was one thing. But Joey, my son, when there's violence and anger, that really has always really triggered him. And most of us, I mean, if you're human, it bothers you, right? We don't like to see that. But he was asking me what to do about it, and he was looking to me because he knows I am somebody that takes action as an enneagram 8. We are just a seeking, take action kind of people anyway. And there have been times in my life that that hasn't always come from the healthiest place, Right? And I think a lot of times, especially with so much uncertainty in the world, you know, we see all different types of people, all the Enneagram types, kind of reacting differently, and it's not necessarily based on typ, like your level of health is. So he was asking me. He's like, mom, like, are you okay? I'm like, you know, my heart's heavy, no question. You know, like I said, I feel things even when it's not in front of me, and I don't put my head in the sand, but I have to really be careful what I take in. Thankfully, with 48 years under my belt, a lot of wisdom, a lot of work and, you know, train, getting trained in what I do day in and day out, I can kind of energetically cut the cord and not take all of that on where it takes me out. Him, on the other hand, has not quite learned that most of you haven't. And so I thought today I would go through each Enneagram type and kind of like where maybe you're at in this and what your strengths are in times like these that are just so unprecedented and things like that. And I was telling him last night because he's like, you, I know that your heart's heavy because I know you, but you really seem okay. And I think sometimes we feel guilty for being okay. Like, we think that we need to be something to participate in the greatest good. We think we need to say certain things or post certain things. And I've been pretty quiet on social media as far as what's happening in the world goes. And it's not because, you know, I don't care, but I'm so instinctively led that I know that I'll know the right message that needs to come when it needs to. Right? So he was saying to me last night, he's like, but you're. You're good. I Am good. I am good. And my heart's still hurting. And that's the thing. Like, your heart can be hurting. You cannot know what's happening in the world. You can not know what tomorrow is going to bring. And you can still be good. And, you know, for the longest time, I thought I had to be in misery in order to be. To have compassion and understand what other people were going through. And that isn't necessarily the case. And quite honestly, I can't be the greatest for other people if I go down that rabbit hole of that. And it doesn't mean I'm insensitive because I'm my God. I have more love and compassion in my heart today than I ever have. But I was telling him, like, you know, that's the reason why I am moving my body as much as I am. I'm hiking mountains, I'm kayaking, I'm running, I'm doing all sorts of different stuff. I'm everything, you know. And I told him, I said, not one of those things has anything to do with burning calories. Not one of those things has anything to do with what the outside looks like or it's bikini season or anything like that. All of it, 100%, is for my emotional wellness, to move that energy through because it is so heavy in the world right now. One of the techniques I use to cut the cord, so to speak, of the heaviness, is to energetically move that through and out of my body. And because it is so heavy, I'm like doing two a days right now. And he's like, I see that. Like, you're killing it. I said, yeah, I'm killing it to get it out so I can be the best me in this world. And for you guys and all of that. And I just really wanted to talk to you guys because I know that, who knows, like, by the time this airs, what could have happened in the world next? You know, last week it was all about the coronavirus and quarantine for the last, you know, two months. And, you know, this week it's something completely different where we're facing riots and protesting and senseless acts of shit going on in the world. And I know, you know, if we're not our healthiest emotionally, we. We may be reacting, we may be angry. And I want you to know that anger is a healthy emotion. How we channel it where it can kind of go sideways, right? But I think that, you know, identifying that anger is okay, and it's actually very, very necessary for your growth.
But what we do with it is what's really, really important. So I kind of wanted to go through each of the Enneagram types to kind of help you and see where maybe.
Where maybe you don't know what to do next or you don't know, like, what should. What should I say? I don't know what to say. And that's okay. I want you to know it's okay. You don't have to do anything. I felt conflicted with that a little bit because my daughter and I had a conversation. She's an enneagram7. And she said to me, mom, you know, with your voice and how people lean to you, lean into you and respect what you have to say, you could be using your voice right now. And one of the things that I'll give this little advice to you for anybody that's a leader, business owner.
Whatever, whatever, anybody that I kind of run when I. When I feel called to say something, you know, I'll write something out. I might, you know, I'll record it. And I've recorded stuff that I've never aired before.
But there's something to be said about running it through a filter of integrity, honesty, motive, ego, things like that. So I've written several things over the last almost decade. And I know it's good. Like, I know it's good. I know the likes are gonna come. I know it's gonna help somebody. And right before I post anything or send anything off for editing for air, I asked myself, like, okay, does this feel right? And I kind of do a check in with God, like, bless this or block this. And if it's very clear that this needs to be blocked, then it doesn' it aired or printed or posted. And I said to my daughter the other day, you know what? There have been a few times I felt called to say something, write something, and right before I do, it gets shut down. And that's not me being afraid. I've done this enough with myself to know that that's called discernment and intuition. And I don't shy away from that, even if it doesn't fit into my agenda or where I want to go with things. You know, for example, I had something all set that I wanted to share yesterday. I mean, I spent hours on it. And right before I was going to share it, it was so clear that now. Now is not the time. Now is not the time. And so I had to shelf it. And that's okay. And if you're out there and you're not sure what to do, what to Say that's okay too. So as I go through each Enneagram type, I kind of want to just like give you maybe some, some things that might feel natural for you. Doesn't mean you have to act on any of that. You know, like I said, the Enneagram is not a tool meant to be used for, you know, self absorbed kind of crap. You know, turning your reflection and lessons that you know about yourself into positive social change. You know, standing up, fighting for those that maybe are more vulnerable, fighting against things that aren't in integrity, that aren't for the greatest good, using discernment and trusting that instinct are going to be so, so important, especially in times like these. And you can't really tap into your intuition and instinct naturally and in full integrity if you are not in the best spot. So I want you to start really applying the strategies of self awareness and using the Enneagram. And if you are not somebody who knows what to do with your Enneagram type, or you don't know what the Enneagram is, or you think you're one type but you're not sure, please, please, please schedule a typing session with me. Go to traceyomally.com under the Work with me section and I would be happy to do that with you. It'll save you a lot of time, give you so much clarity and a lot of tools to walk away with. But applying these strategies.
Into your life will not only allow you to navigate your own feelings and emotions around such uncertainty, but also give you a strong ability to be the very best for your children, for people that look to you for wisdom, advice, whatever, while you're out in the world trying to make it a better place. You know, awareness clearly doesn't necessarily mean transformation. I've said that over and over and over before. And I think that's why, like me, using my voice right now to bring awareness to what's happening isn't necessarily what is best for the greatest good where I'm concerned right now.
It's what we do with that awareness and how we take action is where transformation and change can happen. So like I said, with these things based on your Enneagram type doesn't mean you have to be doing them. But if you're wondering what you might bring to change the movement in the world, I hope that this can maybe give you a little bit of clarity. So we're going to start with, we're going to start at type one, the reformer, the perfectionist. And you guys know that you're in the instinctual triad. You may or may not know that, so you're led by that anyway. And ones gosh, you are so driven by what's right and wrong anyway that I know that right now this feels like your sense of justice and moral convictions and belief that we can do and be better in the world is really being triggered right now. And you know, if you're really healthy, that's a good thing. And if you're not so healthy, it may feel like you're going to explode. But your attention to detail and hardworking work ethic is so needed right now. If you're in a good spot, you know, like I said, if you're not, take care of yourself. Get to the healthiest range that you can get to for you and for your type because you're not going to serve the greatest good or yourself or people you care about if you aren't at your best. I'm going to keep saying that because it's really, really important. But if you are one of those healthy ones, that detail and work ethic is so needed in the world right now because you're naturally inclined to organize and build things that promote change and Lord knows we need that. If you're an unhealthier one or you're a one under stress, you might be highly emotional, you might be feeling like you're riding the roller coaster of emot Give yourself some grace and love and compassion. It is not a weakness, it's just an indicator that you're under stress. But.
Do things that take care of you. It's going to be really important. For the ones my twos I mentioned earlier, the helpers.
You guys are feeling everything. You are in the heart triad. So how you communicate and how you show up and what you do in the world is dictated by your feelings. Your natural inclination is to connect with others and that's needed to bring people together around controversial issues where you can get into trouble if you are not in a good spot. Again, take care of yourself. Get to the healthiest version of you you can. Because where you can get into trouble is where is when you can overcompensate and kind of shut your own stuff off and make it about other people. Meanwhile, it's like a volcano is erupting inside of you and you know, you can be giving and giving and g and.
You give so much that if it's not acknowledged or appreciated, then you can explode. And then it kind of defeats the whole purpose of what you were trying to do to begin with. And it continues that cycle but if you are a healthy too, with healthy boundaries, bringing people together with love and compassion around such controversial issues, this is where you shine. And your drive to help others is such a beautiful fit for volunteering, volunteer organizations, and promoting justice. And where you really shine is your ability to comfort others during hard times. That being said, my beautiful twos out there, please start with yourself. You can't give what you don't give yourself. And I know that for two, that feels like death sometimes to give yourself first. But you know what? Pouring from an empty cup doesn't last very long. So my twos out there, keep loving, but start with yourself. My threes, my achievers.
You also operate and make decisions based on feelings. And I know for a lot of threes, that seems shocking when you first realize that. But what happens is you don't allow yourself to kind of go there. And for my threes out there that are healthy, I want you to acknowledge your feelings.
Allow yourself to feel them. And even if it slows you down, please know that that's a beautiful thing from time to time. Because when you actually do acknowledge that your ability to build order out of chaos is unmatched. Threes make shit happen. But where you get into trouble is when you disassociate and disconnect from your own feelings in order to do that. And you'll burn out. Your health will take a crap, you'll hurt relationships that mean a lot to you. But if you are in a healthy place and you are allowing yourself to take the time to feel.
Know that you are.
The best because your capacity is to problem solve. And I know all my threes out there just got really excited when I said you're the best. Yes, I know, because you're so driven by significance. And that's not a bad thing. Your capacity to problem solve and get things done helps others figure out the way forward and how to make positive change in the world, like real change. The threes that are healthy really can do that. And even the unhealthy theories can do that. But there's always a price to pay if we do it when it's coming from a place of not so great health. So please, threes, allow yourself a container to feel lean into somebody. You don't have to be the stoic one who just handles things and makes shit happen like you will naturally anyway. But you have to take care of yourself in the process. It's really, really important, especially during times like these. I don't want you to minimize where you're at too Because I know you want to go the distance and you will win. Trust me, you're going to win. But I want you to do it and be sustainable physically and emotionally by the end of all this. And the only way that that's going to happen is if you honor your own feelings along the way.
My fours, my individualists, the most emotional type on the Enneagram, you also are in the heart triad and make decisions and communicate coming from a place of feeling and emotion.
You know, an unhealthy 4 is probably losing their ever loving mind right now. And we're seeing a lot of it out there. But I want you to know that your idealistic perspective is so needed to help us see what's possible. You, your gift for seeing what is missing.
Is so also needed. It's necessary for.
Making everyone feel included, especially during such divisive times. Where you guys can get into trouble is.
You know, when you kind of become self absorbed in that and you make it about you. And, and I get that. I want you to know that I get that. The fours usually fear abandonment and you know, so sometimes that's why fours can tend to be very attention seeking, even if it's negative. So if you, if you know you're really honor your feelings and know that you are unique and special just because you are, you don't have to be over the top in anything because we really do need you at your best. We need you healthy because you understand feelings of isolation more than anybody. You understand what it feels like to feel like you don't fit in more than anybody. And you guys, when you are strong and in a healthy range, use your empathy to promote social good. You have the capacity to hold space like nobody else. But the problem is, is when you are all in your own head, you can't do that as effectively. And you know, you might lose some trust and credibility in the ability to do that. But there is not a type on the Enneagram that can hold space like a four that's healthy. You don't judge because you go to some dark, dark places in your heart, in your mind, that nothing surprises. So get to a healthy place, honor all your feelings. You don't have to be anything that you're not because I know that you really want to make a difference in the world.
My fives. So we're moving into the head triad and the five, six and sevens all fall into that. And.
I know the fives are going quiet right now and they're taking it all in. And that's not Necessarily a bad thing. That's their superpower to gather information.
And they, you know, fives that are healthy, they have the capacity to slow down better than anyone and that's a positive thing. Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up. The fives that I know, if I see them kind of out there scattered, I know they're under stress. If I know that there's a five out there that's kind of internalizing in a healthy way and really tapping into their intuition because a 5 in growth takes on the healthy 8.
I know that they're in a good spot and their capacity to, like I said, to slow down is needed. Fives are able to sift through all the information to figure out what's reliable and trustworthy. And you know, in the day and age that we live in, where it's like fake news and media is has their own agenda and we never know what the hell is frickin real. And with social media and my best friend's cousin's person is a xyz and so it's valid. No, no, no, no. Fives right now are really going quiet right now in a healthy way to figure out what is reliable and trustworthy and they're able to clarify what is essential and present.
And they're able to present it in a reliable way to others, which is so important. If you're a five, your wisdom, knowledge.
Can be directed to make a positive change right now. And if you are a five and you are kind of like sitting in the information collecting time, I see you and it's good. If you're an unhealthy five, please know you don't have to hoard that information and you don't have to hoard your energy. Get yourself to a healthy place, know that there's plenty and your wisdom and.
Your healthy discernment is so needed right now.
My Sixes, my courageous ones, the loyalists I know the unhealthy, maybe not the healthiest Sixes or the ones under stress right now.
Really are not liking this. Like, not only did you have to deal with quarantine and depending on where you live, like holy moly, like your routines being thrown off does not feel good. And now there's so much mass chaos and it doesn't feel good and it doesn't feel safe and certain, you know, Sixes are driven by a need to have certainty, support and safety. And so right now, you know, if you are not the healthiest of Sixes, you are rocked. You know, you have troubleshooted what's going wrong, and it's going wrong. But your courage is so needed right now. First, for yourself. You know, Sixes, it's really important that they have people in their lives that can hold space and let them know that their back is had at all times.
Because when they do have that kind of certainty and support, at least by somebody in their life, they're able to step into their own courage because it's so needed right now.
Because your troubleshooting.
Capabilities are unmatched by any other type on the Enneagram. You're able to see everything that could go wrong. And you guys help us prepare for overcoming fears. You really, really do. And your loyalty and commitment inspires us all to take bold steps in any time of uncertainty. Healthy. You know, you've heard me talk about it before. Sixes are like my favorite because y' all keep me out of some trouble because I can be super reactive and decisive almost without thinking things through. And the Sixes in my life really keep me grounded, but also allow me to take bold steps that are more effective sometimes. So if you are a Six that is losing your mind, please lean into somebody. Find. And if you don't have that person actively, intentionally seek somebody out that can hold space for you and lets you know that you're safe, supported, and protected at all times.
The Sixes in my life really are part of my solid foundation. The Sevens, the enthusiasts you've heard me talk about, the Seven that I live with, my daughter.
Not only was that hard for them to go through quarantine.
They'Ve been having to deal with hard emotions, which is not a 7's favorite thing to do. They like to escape when they're not so healthy. I've called my daughter the escapist back in the day, and it's been really a beautiful thing to watch her navigate. Not just quarantine, but now, like all the crazy that's happening in the world and just the positive light that she brings to that. And that's Seven, my Sevens out there. That is your superpower, your enthusiasm and energy. Infectious. And it's what's needed to encourage us all to pursue what's possible. You guys think outside the box like nobody else. Your optimism in the most difficult situations is a gift to us, especially for those out there that might be losing hope. Now, for Seven, you have to make sure that you allow yourself to feel the pain, which is not something Sevens like to do. Once you've honored your own feelings, please lean in. You know, my daughter having me as a mom has really accelerated her process in feeling hard feelings. And so she's able to do this with such beauty and grace. She brings optimism to pretty much every situation. Now, Sevens, when they're under stress, they take on the unhealthy traits of the one, which is that perfectionist little ocd, and they become super rigid and tunnel vision. And it's been beautiful to watch her not so. Not step into that so much. So that tells me that she's really navigating her own hard emotions. And so if you feel. If you're a seven and you feel kind of like yourself, stepping into perfectionism, OCD rigidity, take the time to honor your own feelings about all of this because your optimism is so needed. You also understand and appreciate the potential in all people and all situations. You are love and light, and you are your best love and light when you are really allowing yourself to feel all your things, too.
All right, my fellow eights out there, we are in the instinctual triad. So we are feeling all of this. We are the challengers.
And I know 10 years ago, I mean, I've had this rumble come up because I'm angry. I mean, like I said, anger is a healthy emotion. How we use it and how we express it. Express it can turn things sideways. And I know a decade ago how I would be expressing my anger would actually cause more harm than good in situations right now. But as an eight, we are always seeking justice. We are driven by justice, whether it's for ourselves or for other. I mean, we're. The eights are the kings and queens of going to bat for the underdog. And, you know, sometimes we can do that in a way that, like I said, causes more harm than good, because anger is that emotion for eights that is right there at the surface. And as an eight, we explode with it sometimes if we aren't in the healthiest spot. But where eights shine right now, when you are healthy, they are the strongest leaders on the enneagram. They.
They have the ability to go toe to toe with anybody in a healthy way. Even Martin Luther King was an 8. Your leadership, your strength and your energy is what's needed to move us towards positive change in the face of doubt and uncertainty. And if you are coming off half cocked, you're an eight. That is explosive right now. This may not be the time for you to be saying much. And I can speak this because I've been that at many times in my life, and I'm not perfect. I still can explode from time to time. It's very rare. Because I've learned how to channel that anger into something positive.
But the other good thing about Eights is we bring a sense of urgency necessary to accomplish the difficult work ahead. We're not afraid to go into the fire and take one for the team. Where Eights can get into trouble also is we don't think about the consequences when we do that. I mean, we're super decisive and we're not afraid or big risk takers, and that's good. But leaning into the healthy part of us which, you know, aids in growth, take on the healthy traits of the two, that compassion and empathy is going to be really, really important to navigate the anger that we're feeling for so much fucking injustice that's happening right now, whether it's Covid or the political crap or riots or any of those things. I know, Eights, you are fired up, right? Lean into your compassionate part. You can still trust me. I have so much love, compassion, and understanding in my heart, and that's what most of you see. But don't get me wrong. I can pull out the fuck you card when I need to, but only if it's for the greatest good and not coming from a place of fear, right? So, Eights, check yourselves before you wreck yourselves, before you move forward and really lean into that compassion part of your heart. You can seek justice, and you can do a lot more good when you actually don't create more fear with your anger, because we can do that from time to time.
Oh, my Nines, you know, the peacemaker. And I know it must seem like anything but peaceful right now. And so Nines are doing one of two things. Either they're completely shut down, or they are the voice of reason right now. Because, you know, you've heard me call the Nines the Yoda of the Enneagram. You also are in the instinctual triad. So your intuition is on fire right now. And if you aren't in the healthiest spot, you're shutting it down. And so you're just hiding out. And I'm not judging it. Please know that. But the Nines have this inclusive wisdom. They see the bigger picture in a way that is so natural. All the other types are able to do that, but we have to work harder at it. Where, you know, for Nines, it is their instinctual superpower. They can see the bigger picture very easily because they're at the top of the Enneagram and they oversee the other Eight types so well. If you're in a good spot, and I have several friends and mentors in my life that are Nines that are super healthy, and I'm so thankful for them because their mediation and peacemaking skills are so needed right now.
Nines are able to create space for others and bring out the very best in people. And their other superpower is the ability to see multiple perspectives and find nonviolent solutions to really complex problems. So my Nines out there, you are needed more than ever right now in the healthiest of ways. I want you to know that you can handle hard things and you can handle. I know that your nature is to keep the environment peaceful, and if you don't know how to do that or you second guess yourselves, you just shut down. And I don't want you to do that because we need your voice, your opinion, your wisdom. Your voice does matter right now, and that's something that Nines can struggle with if they're not in the best spot. Lean in. Know that your voice matters now more than ever. Your inclusive nature, your ability to see things, the bigger picture, picture of everything is so, so needed right now, especially right now. You know, there's no rhyme or reason to these times. Honestly, this, what's happening the last six months, the first half of 2020, is something none of us have ever faced before. I mean, some of this is not new, but we're seeing it through different lenses. You know, some of the things that have happened, you know, with the pandemic and like, like. No. Our generations that are here on earth today really never faced anything like that. And as a global unit, we're all facing this together. And I know that when we can be the very healthiest version of ourselves, regardless of what type you are, we all have strengths and superpowers. We don't have to be, you know, Susie on Instagram, trying to be something we're not. I know my superpowers, and I am really, really, really leaning into those right now. Will I use my voice? Absolutely. But like I said that I need to make sure it's coming from a place that isn't fearful, that is for the greatest good and not necessarily ego or what I think is expected of me. And I'm going to ask you to do the same. And the only way to really, really know for sure is if you are in touch with your intuition and your own personal instincts. And I know you know, some of the types on the Enneagram, we operate from instincts, but we that ability. And the only way to really do that is if we allow ourselves to be present with our own stuff. And that doesn't mean we wallow in it, and it doesn't mean that we dismiss it. We feel all the things. If you're feeling a wide range of emotion, even over the course of five minutes time, congratulations, you are human. And that is actually a gift. Now, how you navigate that? If you need some help, please reach out to me. This is where I shine. I can help you navigate all the feelings. There's nothing wrong with you. You're not broken. Maybe you haven't been taught. Maybe it hasn't been modeled. Lord knows I didn't have the skill set either. And I'm happy to say that today, even with so much going on and so much pain and my own personal stuff that, you know, I'm dealing with too, none of it is undo. You know, un.
I'm not. Gosh, my words are all tied right now. None of it is impossible to navigate. None of it. Does it mean it feels good? No. But the thing I do know is this, that even through pain and heartbreak and horrible things, even there's always something on the other side of it that is so beautiful and bright. You know, without. Without light, there can't be darkness, and without the darkness, there can't be light. You must have the contrast. And I know the contrast right now seems very extreme, and I am going to hold on to the belief because I've experienced this in my life, in the thousands of lives I've helped that because it is so dark and it feels so heavy right now.
