EP167: How to Use the Enneagram to Increase Your Collaboration Power
27 Jul 2021 · 17 min
Host Tracy O'Malley (Leadership Formula podcast) teaches how to use the Enneagram to increase collaboration power across business, family and personal settings. The episode defines collaboration vs. cooperation, argues that effective collaboration requires even energy exchange and willingness, and presents three core components of a collaborative culture: clear communication, responsible engagement, and embracing diversity. Tracy walks through each Enneagram type (1–9), listing typical triggers, collaboration challenges, and practical growth actions (e.g., Ones: relax standards and communicate intent; Twos: practice self-honoring/no; Threes: slow transitions to include others; etc.). The episode also includes coaching/service promotions (typing sessions, team coaching, private coaching) and contact information (tracyomalley.com).

Let's do this thing.
Have you ever had someone slide into your DMs and I'm not talking about like the 90 Day Fiance kind of thing. I think we should collab or I'd love to do a collaboration with you. That is one of the things next to can I pick your brain? That is one of the things that really gets to me. And this episode is going to be all about collaboration and the Enneagram and what collaboration actually means. Right? The reason it bothers me so much, same with picking the brain is because it's very one sided. Usually when this happens to me or to you, and it may be why you have shied away from collaboration. Also, I won't lie, being an enneagram 8, we don't necessarily like to play play nice in the sandbox with others. But I will get to that and what that looks like with the Enneagram. The true definition of collaboration is the action of working with someone to produce or create something. Now when you hear this collab stuff, I know when somebody's approaching me. If I haven't met them before, I haven't vetted them, or I haven't been introduced by somebody who says, I think you guys would be great together for something. Usually that means I want to pick your brain, I want to use your audience, and I know that you in my life, it will benefit me. Very rarely when you want to do a true collaboration, you have to have something for the other person to benefit from too, right? There has to be this even energy exchange kind of thing going on. Otherwise resentment will happen or you'll be depleted. I know there's a lot of you listening right now that have said yes to some shit like that and you regret it later because it feels like you're pulling the heavy weight in it. And I thought this would be a great episode because I'm coming off of a whole launch process with My bestie, Tiffany Carter. Those of you that are in the let's get down to Business program, congratulations. You're going to be part of one of my very first business collaborations. That feels really, really good for me. I've done other collaborations in other businesses. That's a different thing. But in this coaching industry thing, I really do kind of operate on my own for the most part. But this collaboration that I'm doing definitely revealed a lot of why I don't. That being said, I'm super grateful for the uncomfortableness. I'm super grateful for that process exposing some things I did need to work on. Right? And this doesn't just apply to business. You'll understand that this will benefit you and your home couples, parents, teachers, business owners. Anywhere you want to see less conflict and more cooperation in your homes, workplaces, friendships. If this sounds like you, then I want you to know that this episode's going to be for you what you'll kind of gain from listening Today. You can learn how you can use the Enneagram to improve collaboration and communication within your team, group and family. You'll discover some mistakes that maybe you're making and how the Enneagram can really help you make minimize them. You'll learn strategies for each type and become a more positive leader. You'll also be able to use the Enneagram to create more positive culture within your group. This is one of the number one things that people that are seeking a new career, a new job, a new environment to work in. This is next to, you know, obviously income. This is the number one thing is that there's a positive culture. And this is how the Enneagram has helped in my home and in my businesses. But for sure this will also help you to encourage and train your group to communicate better and collaborate more. And just so you know, one of the add ons that I've added to what I am passionate about doing in the workplace, the entrepreneurial space is team and group, one on one coaching. I have two different kind of ways that I go about it. One is very hands on with each individual. The other is with the leader. And then I do group. And it's super great. If you are somebody that is in charge of a team, organization, workplace environment, the culture. Bringing me in to kind of make sure that everybody feels seen, heard and understood will allow you to produce more out of those people. You'll be able to empower the best in your people. You'll be able to recognize maybe where you haven't been the most effective communicator with your people. It's powerful. I'm excited. I'm going to be traveling now and doing that with some teams up in the Pacific Northwest. So if that's you, definitely go check out my website, Tracey O' Malley.com. you can send me an email. I customize things. We have packages. It's amazing. All right, back to the show. The Enneagram is a comprehensive tool that can help your group communicate and collaborate better. Like I said, this isn't just in the workplace or in your entrepreneurial life. This also can happen in your home because title and position doesn't limit your ability to influence. And this goes for even the children in our house. My kids lead in our home. We collaborate as a family, me and my kids. For sure, you can lead and inspire people. Whether you are a CEO of a large corporation or an employee, a parent in a busy family, like I said, or even one of the kids. Your presence matters. And I think so often I see that we kind of dim our light or we don't think that we have this kind of influence. But I want you to know you do. The question is, how can you be more intentional about influencing the group you're in? You know, early on, I let my kids know that they had a Voice probably about 10, 12 years ago. Didn't mean like they had. They were the final say. But, you know, I grew up in a home where I was told I was better seen than heard. And although, you know, a lot of those older generations threw that around like, that had a huge impact on how I used my voice. Right? And that was one thing that in our home, I always wanted our kids to know that in my home, they could use their voice. And that's their first kind of role in leadership, is in the home. So what is the difference between an influencer and. And a leader? I want you to know this. I get asked about, like, what Enneagram type is best at this? What's best at this? Obviously, we all have our own unique skill sets, but any Enneagram type can make an effective leader and be a positive influence to the group. The words leadership and influencer are similar, but they aren't the same. But you can use them interchangeably, for sure. But I want to clarify what they mean. Most people would agree that leaders have a title and a position like boss or mother or father. They have power over people and sometimes can use it to set projects and ideas in motion. Right? They can be a positive influence to their group. And when they are, they can change the trajectory of someone's life or career. Right. I know as a mother in my home, the leader in my home. Absolutely. At least the last 10 years, I have done a hell of a job impacting the direction that their lives would take. Recent developments in brain science show that leadership skills are learned through practice. It isn't. You read a book, the, or even listening to this podcast. It's great to have all the information on what it is to be an effective leader, but it doesn't really happen until you kind of flex the muscle. In my opinion, anyone providing a positive influence is growing their leadership muscles, even if they don't hold a leadership position, so to speak. Right. Your Enneagram type influences how you approach work, what frustrates you, what triggers you, and how you behave under stress. Right. What triggers you definitely reveals areas that maybe there was a wound or where work needs to be done. Right. Work is not just what you do to make money. It is anything that you give your attention, intention and energy to so that you can accomplish a desired outcome. And it will always stretch you mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually and financially. Sometimes. You know, I want you to really acknowledge the effort you put into things like relationships, spiritual growth, self care. You know, I don't use care. Very self honoring. You know, I want you to know that it's a constant thing. I was just on a coaching call a little bit ago that, you know, there was this moment where she felt like she, she's like, I can't believe that I didn't see that before. And I want you to know that as things come up for you, especially if you're a grower and if you're listening to this, you are committed to growth and we're going to keep doing it until we're done here on Earth. And I said to her, I'm like, listen, things will be revealed to you when you are equipped and supported and capable to deal with it. And a lot of times, most of my life, when that stuff would come up, especially if it was uncomfortable, I would shove it down, power through it, whatever. And I was blocking my own growth, my own blessings, quite honestly. So I want you to know that even if you're a personally developed person, the work is never done and things will keep coming up. So how you use the Enneagram to work. Right, because it's one thing to know the enneagram, it's another to integrate it. Right. A significant change can occur when you allow the Enneagram to be integrated in your life, not just in the groups that you lead, but also, and especially yourself, especially if you're in leadership. It can help you connect with those in your group or in some ways push them away in some shape or fashion. You know, 2020 was a season of deep stretching for most people. Lots of stuff came up Covid other events intruded on maybe the plans and your goals. Definitely unchartered territory, for sure. Lots of unknowns, uncertainty, risks. And this was the pandemic was something that didn't discriminate. And everybody was a little bit on edge. Some people, I was one of those that was really calm. I actually became a little bit more on edge when things started kind of going back to normal and people were feeling different kinds of pressure than maybe they've experienced before. So under pressure, your enneagram defenses go up, right? And that makes that can make things worse. Tempers can flare, accusations, people spin out or retreat. At a time when, you know, we all need each other more than ever, our reactive behavior can lead to a lot of misunderstandings. Separation, isolation. All of this is predictable by your enneagram type 2. And even more because it works within you, whether you realize it or not. The beauty is, is when you identify your enneagram type properly. Hint, hint. I do typing sessions and I have now released my wait list, so you can book that. And 65 to 70% of you are mistyped if you just took an online test, right? But once you have your correct enneagram type and you can acknowledge the virtue and also the vice of each enneagram type, you can see how you might contribute to part of the problem, right? The enneagram is like this big mirror, and it shows you your condition and offers suggestion on how maybe you could show up a little differently to be more effective. It doesn't mean you're changing who you are, but maybe how it gets expressed can. Leading into the emotional work, especially when you're in business, allows you to take an honest look at how you do life. It's easier to be in a relationship that way, let me tell you, with all of my people, right? You can choose to pause, you can choose to reflect, and you can take responsibility for your actions. This tool has really kept me from blowing up a lot of things in my life. And I know those that I've worked with, with and teaching them how to integrate this in all areas of their life, in their romantic partnerships, their parenting, their friendships, their work life. Game changer. And the good news is you don't have to keep throwing on different hats. You're still the same person. But maybe how you express it in different experiences and different situations can change. When you allow the Enneagram to work within you, you're intentionally choosing to live according to your values and not the fears of your ego, which is hu. Enneagram work makes better leaders. Absolutely. Because I know before I understood this, I led one way, and if you didn't resonate with that, too freaking bad, quite honestly. And that happened in my home too, right? And I know a lot of us grew up that way, but it really allowed me to understand the other eight kind of personalities and how a they would receive me as an 8. And also how I could speak to their motive and their fears in a way that empowered them, created confidence within them, and brought the very best in them.
It's amazing. Enneagram integration makes better leaders. And as your actions and values align, your life becomes more congruent and others notice your growing compassion and sense a more trusting environment. When people are feel seen, heard and understood, I'm telling you, they will go to bat for you. Creating a safe culture and community requires a commitment. It isn't just like, hey, I take this test and read about the other types, and poof, it happens. It means learning to listen, being more patient with others points of view. It means managing your own kind of tension and ego so you can stay engaged even when in disagreement. This is huge. This was a huge thing for me because, you know, if you didn't agree with me, I was like, oh, I'll throat punch you.
Cooperation is defined as two or more people working together for the same goal. Collaboration means working jointly together and to cooperate willingly. Willingly is the key word here, right? So when you're doing a collaboration with somebody, you might think you're collaborating, but if both parties aren't cooperating willingly, it's really important. The challenge with collaboration is to stay in the process with others long enough to create a successful outcome. And I want to tell you, like, doing this collaboration for let's get down to business with Tiffany, my best friend. I mean, I trust her with my freaking life. Like, if I die, she's in charge of everything. Like, that's how much I trust her. And there were moments in this collaboration that were really uncomfortable for me because as an eight, I don't want to be seen as weak. And her strengths are in different areas of mine. And oh my gosh, every part of me wanted to bail on the process because I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable. But I willingly was committed to the process. And that's why the Collaboration works, right? A lot of times you'll go into collaboration with somebody and it sounds like a great idea at the time. It's like, yeah, that sounds great. And then the excitement wears off and one person or more than one person could bail. Right? And that's when collabs don't work. That's why if you're going to like suggest collaborating with somebody, you need to a make sure you're all in and that they are too. Because you'll get a lot of people that will just say yes to you and then they won't pull their weight. And I've been that person where it sound like a great idea at the time, I was like, oh my God. Abort mission. Like abort it now. Right.
So how does the Enneagram reduce conflict? Right. Our differences can make relationships difficult. And some Enneagram types are aggressive and loud, otherwise known as me. The threes, the sevens and eights are the more aggressive. Some are more reserved and process ideas slowly. The fours, the fives and the nines. And then there's the more compliant ones, which are the ones, twos and sixes. So others are more reserved and process ideas slowly. Our differences open the door to comparison and competition. Right. Two forces that oppose cooperation in your group. And the Enneagram can enable you to see your differences in a new way. This is my favorite thing. I actually really enjoy when there's kind of differences of opinion. A because I know I'm going to learn more about myself and this is a way that I can keep working my leadership muscle Magic happens when two people who were in conflict and set aside their differences can come together. And the Enneagram can show how each type is important. Every perspective matters. Like if they just operate like me. It's not a well rounded kind of operation. Right? Everybody can contribute something valuable. Resolving conflict and improving communication are byproducts of integrating the Enneagram into your operation in your home. People you lead, people you love. Having a family or team work together is a great goal, but it doesn't just happen. You can't just have everybody and know everybody's Enneagram type. And it works and you can't force it. Right? Hanging inspirational quotes and rearranging furniture are attempts to break through barriers. But it takes more people have to all be on board for the vision. And I get a lot of people that I'm working with one person in the household or the team and organization and they want everybody to drink the Kool Aid doesn't work that way. And if you force it, you're going to lose them as far as their willingness or openness to do this. And so what I usually say is, you work and focus on you first, but I want you to kind of walk your talk, not suggest that they should do this. They're going to notice a difference in you if it's authentic, and they will be curious. And that's when the door gets opened. Collaboration requires group members to agree and to be willing to come together right in your home, in your organization. And that comes from the heart. And when behavior stems from a heartfelt decision, incredible possibilities are ahead. A collaborative culture begins with one person, but requires at least one more. And it's built on these three components. Clear communication. Right? People don't communicate well. I know this seems really obvious, but they just don't. They just assume or work from an invisible list of rules. And this might be like sound sarcastic, but the list of poor communication styles is really, really long. And poor communication can trigger strong emotions that can hijack all rational thinking. You've heard the phrase, you know, you flip your lid or lose your shit. Yeah, does. It's counterproductive. It's counterproductive to a collaborative culture. And collaboration needs good communication. But it isn't the only thing. Number two, Responsible engagement. Healthy communication involves a willingness to listen respectfully and ask questions to understand. And it means sticking with the conversation even when it's hard or when people disagree. You choose to stay engaged for the greater good and the common good. And number three, embrace diversity. I failed all three of these things miserably 15 years ago. Embrace diversity. In order for camaraderie to happen, the group members need to believe their presence or contributions matter. Right? The Enneagram exposes predictable behaviors for each type and the triggers that go with them. It shows how they move between a stressful state to like a more growing one. And it empowers you to stay present, respectful and connected, even when things get heated. Like I said, it's not a one and done thing. Because friction within the group continues to show up. It always will. Especially if you're reaching bigger goals or things change. Life happens and people have different points of view and they do things differently. Some are cautious when others prefer risk. Some like to go fast, and others don't want to move at all. You and the vision will help guide them to the goal. And the integration of the Enneagram helps the team cooperate over time. Right? It's amazing. It's amazing. So I know that you want to hear about the Enneagram with each type, right? I know that it's clear that the Enneagram integration really works within individuals as well as within a group. I know that you wouldn't be listening to me if if you didn't know that. So let's look at how each type is challenged and how you can improve collaboration within your group when you are in your healthy state. So my Enneagram ones, my reformers, the environment needs to be a safe place, right? People want the freedom to be themselves, raise questions and challenge the status quo in a non judgment zone. Ones are really strong inner critics and they have a strong inner critic. And also they can appear critical. Ones have high expectations, especially for themselves, and they want to do the right thing. And like the rest of us, frustrations show up. The ones feel tension when their idea of what's right clashes with someone else's. I see this one happen all the time. It's in the tension that the Enneagram does some of its best work. Work though, building a business or unifying a family takes creativity and imagination. Learning to relax your type structure, you free up mental and emotional space. Right Ones have high standards and it's difficult to keep everything in check and it's hard to keep it all in. And sometimes A1 can overreact. Other people within the group, whether it's family or in the workplace, can misinterpret this behavior and assume that the One is angry with them. Since you can't read someone else's mind, the friction works against collaboration and better communication will be required. It's very, very cool when you see a one really kind of let their guard down a little bit. It's powerful. Enneagram2 leaders need to slow things down in order to think well. It is also important to get thoughts, insights and input from other team members. Twos focus on important relationships like a mama who always listens for her young. An enneagram2 is attuned to others even when they are engaged in something else. And if Twos aren't aware of this tendency, it can be problematic for the group they lead. The need for joint focus in a collaborative group seems obvious. However, if an enneagram2 perceives a strain in an important relationship, they will be distracted and miss vital elements. Their ears almost always somewhere else, kind of listening and feeling for cues. Twos in leadership need to address this inner conflict. Without awareness and self restraint, Twos will mismanage energy and make poor decisions. And fortunately, you know, the structure of the Enneagram can reveal your type's potential pitfalls and how to grow beyond them. Or having me guide you through that will definitely help that. If you're a two, I want you to notice the signals your body sends when you are under stress. You make better choices when you aren't overworked or over yes ing yourself, right? If you feel on edge or you get headaches, I want you to identify your pattern and respect it. One of my son, he's a two, gets in this. I'm like, have you been over yes ing yourself? He's like, shit, I totally have. Enneagram twos that want to influence others need to get better at self honoring, right? Taking the time, saying no so that they can say yes to the right things when tensions arise. My enneagram twos ask yourself, why does it feel like you're doing it all? Do you have resentment because nobody's like reading your mind? It's really, really important that you structure your family and business so you can delegate work to others. And I know the helpers are like, no, but it will be key. It will be everything for you. Enneagram3, the achievers. They're a whiz at kind of reexamining old systems and restructuring them for efficiency. The three superpower is developing new systems, but it takes time to create them. And they like to just build, barrel through. Sometimes the way forward isn't always clear. Obviously, 2020 kind of showed us that, right? Three's ability to pivot is great, but sometimes we can pivot quickly and move on too fast for everybody else to catch up, right? So if you're in enneagram3, I want you to pay attention to what happens inside of you when things slow down. Notice the sensation you get that compels you into action. Is it like you don't want to be alone with your feelings? Is it you want to prove to the world or to somebody else how great you are subconsciously? It can even kind of sneak in. Try to pause there a minute and look deeper into that urge to just act. Think about these questions like, how would you describe the urge and what does it mean? What's under that real pressure? Right? The type 3 leader needs to kind of give some extra space in their timeline in a transition, especially when other people are involved, because things will just take longer. You know, Threes can barrel through things, but not everybody else can. And one of the biggest complaints I get about three leaders is you feel like you're going to be left in their dust if you don't keep up, right? And that's not collaboration. You could run in circles and get the job done in half the time. My threes. But that's not how a cooperative culture is built and I see a lot of judgment come up. It's unrealistic to think your group is as quick as or as adaptable as you, but they have other skill sets and bring things to the table that you are lacking that you need. So growing in awareness will be a challenge for my threes. And it might seem annoying, but I'm telling you, this will be a game changer for how you're able to move the needle for your mission. Use that power for something good. Right? Your abundant energy enables people to get unstuck or will make them feel run over. So it's up to you to really kind of show up in that. All right. My fours see the world and pick up on clues that most of us miss. However, they can be really hard on themselves. And if you're a four in leadership, look for ways to celebrate the wins. Both personal and group successes. Really just soak it up like all of it. Adjusting your perception filters and let in the full truth. It's easy for you to take the negative in and deflect the positive. But. But that habit will give you a distorted truth and make things way harder than they need to be. Right? The real work for the Enneagram 4 is around emotions. And your first step is learning to kind of rein in your feelings. Left unchecked, you will spend a lot of energy either expressing some of the more outward fours or the more self preservation fours. Dwell in the emotions and kind of isolate. As a leader, that doesn't bring you the ROI you want. So be mindful of those like waves of emotions that come in. What brings them on? Consider how others might respond. Not for comparison but for new ideas. Right? Do you need to process everything now or could you ponder this later? Using the Enneagram inwardly to direct your thoughts and behaviors is super liberating. It will help you move through those emotions rather than drowning in them and honestly will equip you to be a better leader in your home and in the workplace. My Fives tend to isolate themselves. You put a high value on knowledge and on where you invest your energy. Where the Enneagram integration in your life is important will help you getting out of isolation and resisting the urge to withdraw. You need to connect more with others. Big shocker there. All my fives are like hell no, we won't go. You've been an observer forever and I understand you have A real need to withdraw and recoup. And you can still do that, right? But there is a real treasure in authentic connection and your presence. Honestly, you're kind of like the dark horse that nobody sees coming. And I know Fives, you kind of like that because eights do too. And your presence can be a real stabilizing force for the group. In your home, in the workplace, people can pick up on calm feelings just like your anxious ones. So if you're kind of like internally, like, freaking out, people will pick up on that. I've said this many times. Like, fives, when they're in a sweet spot, are my favorites because they're just so chill. When you show up with a peaceful demeanor, others naturally relax. This isn't possible when you're losing your right. Learn to share your feelings and manage your anxiety when others express theirs. This is another way that integration can really help a five out. Live out your values and learn to support yourself and others in the process. And I know for a 5, change is really hard. Every transition has mysteries and will challenge your need to know all the things. And your go to soothing method is to withdraw and research. So be aware of your tension and choose to connect instead. Lean in instead of lean out. Now, there are times you will need to lean out, and I get that. But I want you to do the contrary action and kind of go with leaning in first. Start with the connection between your own heart and head and then move to connect more with others. Like, check your body first and then reach out to somebody. It doesn't have to be something drastic. Over time, I want you to expand your capacity to manage your ability to interact with others. You will be thrilled with what you find when you actually break through that barrier for yourself. All right, my Sixes, my loyalists, are team players. They're the best collaborators on the Enneagram, naturally, because they like well defined roles, both for themselves and for others in their group. They settle into their role best when they can trust others to maintain theirs. This is also where a collaboration can go sideways. If you're with an enneagram6, because the reason they're such good collaborators is because they want to keep their eye on everyone so they don't get blindsided. And so if you betray the trust with a six, this doesn't end well. So doing a collaboration like I just did with the most 6ish 6 virgo that I know, I knew that there was no way I would agree to it if I was even remotely going to run and hide. I wanted to but this is important for Sixes.
And Sixes need to understand that people aren't always responsible. Sometimes they don't hold up their end of the deal, and that can cause anxiety for the Six. And depending on the kind of Six you got, this can be really loud or really quiet. The Enneagram can act as a tool in this kind of situation, showing each type how to navigate through the hard times. And the six types do this when they pay attention to their anxious thoughts. Like, really, like, being mindful of what are you afraid of? What are you thinking? Is the worst thing that's going to be kind of coming to the surface here. Be aware of those times when you feel on high alert, which for a Six, you're all laughing because it's like all the freaking time. Sixes hesitate as they assess new situation. So asking a Six or yourself, if you're a Six, what causes you to slow down or, like, slow your roll? What's it really saying? What are you really afraid of? This tension is problematic for six leaders, but it can be turned around for sure. Your problem solving capabilities can be your asset instead of what holds you back. Right? Tensions rise in Sixes when you sense fear, so be careful you don't rush in to change things just to get past it, because that will get you in trouble, too. You have the gift of being a smart planner. Use it to move forward, not backwards. Right. Energy follows focus. So shift your focus from what could go wrong to the goal that you want to accomplish. The thing I ask a 6, especially when I feel like they're kind of losing their mind, is what's the best that could happen right now. So if you're a Six, or you love or lead one, that one helps. They may not appreciate it when they're in the heat of something, but it's really powerful. All right. My Sevens have trouble sticking with things over time. At least that's their reputation, right? But when a vision captures their heart. If you're a seven, you know you have an innate ability to stay committed even in hard times. It's so beautiful to see, and it's available for you. If you're a seven, it just takes some work, right? That squirrel brain can kind of take hold, especially if you've got to do some uncomfortable stuff in this thing. 7. To have a positive voice in the group with ridiculous amounts of energy. Sevens are a real asset to the team, for sure. Now, if you're somebody who likes order and structure, if you're leading a seven, it might challenge you for sure. The Optimism of the Seven inspires members to catch the bigger picture. They're like rose colored glasses, anything's possible kind of people. And I love it. I'm raising one. It's amazing. Sevens will want to be part of it. And that's where the magic starts. If you're a Seven leader and your group buys into the vision and works and you can get people working together to carry it out, morale and loyalty grow. Absolutely. Disagreements will happen. That's just obvious. But with the Sevens help and optimistic attitude, you can, you can help minimize that. It takes a lot of your own inner work on your part and a commitment to stick no matter what, even if you get bored. Right? Sevens, you know you're an influencer. You motivate your your people and your audience and help them see the good in the future. But only when you're in a good place yourself, right? How can you invest in yourself to lighten the load? Right. Staying in things and really leaning into that healthy five that the seven goes in a growth pattern will allow you to kind of strategically put things in order instead of just kind of going in hot all the time. All right. My fellow enneagram8challenger people, we are feeling repressed. All right? That seems crazy because we are very passionate people and seem full of emotion, especially anger. But if you look below the surface of an 8, they find what motivates them is power, justice and a need to control. So Eights definitely can lose patience when people or situations move too slowly or if somebody doesn't do what they say they're going to do, they can use their force in their favor and push through important details. If you value excellence in leadership and want to increase your influence, My Eights take time to pause so you can use your power for something beautiful. Being intentional and writing out your thoughts first is important, but be careful. Don't just write from your headspace. Connect to your heart and why you value excellent leadership and let your actions and plans come from there. Sharing your ideas with others and allowing them to hold you accountable. This is why we don't love collaboration, right? We don't love it because we don't want to be held accountable because that feels controlled to innate. Right? But we also know this is important, especially if you're trying to scale a business. People listen to others feedback and how does it compare with your original goals? Right? Take a look at what you might need to change. Do you need to tweak your approach before you just blame someone else? Eights, I want you to know your presence attracts People who want to follow your lead. But your 8 type has more stamina than most, so you got to consider others. I've been told my whole life, like I don't know how you power through things the way that you do. We are resilient. If you want a team that works well together, you're going to have to cushion your agenda and allow some time so the pace is reasonable for everyone. This is why I was mistyped as a three as well. Integrating the Enneagram includes learning to recognize and release impatience. And when people don't feel judged by you, they're more willing to go and step up to the plate. All right. Enneagram Nines Cooperation in the workplace is the Enneagram Nines dream. They make great leaders. When they're healthy, their demeanor and pace can be just what the team needs to collaborate. While they are like the voice of reason. However, Nines in leadership have some challenges to overcome. It's difficult for them to make decisions and they have a lower energetic vibe. So learning to delegate and depend on others is key. That is not a bad thing, especially for the 9 leader who enjoys harmony in the group. So it's really important and helpful for an enneagram 9 to define good leadership in a different way. The old model gave way orders from the top down, but that doesn't really help collaboration, right? Nines are gifted with the ability to see all sides of an issue and that can also keep them at a standstill. So because you'll feel the tension and be tempted to stall, so don't check out if you're a nine, stay engaged, ask others for input and then implement. This is how integrating I work with a lot of nines, especially in entrepreneurship. They're great support, but they're they get nervous about being like the main thing. But it's really important to grow in your own authentic space. So in order to do that, you must develop the ability to voice who you are and what matters to you without worrying so much what how it might be perceived. Paying attention to resistance and anger will be really important for you. Even though you might not externalize it like an 8 will. That internal passive aggressive anger might end up keeping you stuck and then your gifts don't shine in leadership. So how can you put the Enneagram to work within your team, organization, family, understanding where we need to see more cooperation? What is the culture of our current space? How are you as a leader in that and what needs to happen for you to be able to interact with influence your group more in A positive direction. If you are a parent or a business owner like me, you've probably taken a big hit this last year. Right between work and family responsibilities. And you're stretched thin. The people that you love and lead are feeling that too. I don't want to put another should on your plate. Right. My intent is to offer help, insights, practical suggestions. Over and over, my clients express aha moments when they discover their type and how it makes a difference in their life. And they use the framework to really help them grow and lead. Number one, start with yourself. Right? This is how this can help you. Start with yourself and really diving into you and your Enneagram type. And like I said, I do live coaching typing sessions with people all day long. Knowing yourself and how others might receive you. Absolutely. It's powerful. Talk with others that you lead and love and see what they know about the Enneagram. Learn about the other types in your group. Play around with it. Pay attention to other people. Embrace diversity. Be more compassionate. Talking openly with others about the Enneagram. Don't like start typing people. You've heard me say that it is not your job. Absolutely. You might send somebody down the complete wrong path. Don't do it. I know you're tempted, especially if you've done had the Kool Aid. So don't do it. And mostly I want you to celebrate your wins. So I know you're very intrigued and maybe you want to bring this to your team or organization. Like I said, I would be honored. I have worked with several teams and organizations, mastermind groups, it's, you know, membership teams, all of it. We can do, you know, some basic stuff. We can go deep diving with the leadership in your organization. We can can, you know, do in person. It's amazing. We do family dynamics for sure. But like I said, it all starts with you and I would be so grateful to help you on your journey. I love seeing the aha moments and the lights turn on for you. And most people say after 90 minutes with me that they first of all they're like, are you reading my mind? I feel like I've known you forever. And quite honestly, this is probably the most seen, heard and understood you will ever feel. And it's scary and also so beautiful. So if that's you, I want you to go to Tracy O' Malley.com, the work with me section. Also, I do private one on one coaching where we take the Enneagram and really go deep with it. And I use all my 22 years of performance coaching myself. And others that comes into play. So I mesh the framework of the Enneagram and we do a little soul surgery along the way so you can have the business and life of your dreams. That is by application only. I have some spots that have opened up. So if you know, can you imagine having access to me every single day for three months? Because that's what happens. It's powerful. Powerful. You know, the phone, a friend card. Imagine that's me every single day. It's awesome. But if that is something that you're like, I have had enough. This is where the rubber meets the road and you want that, go fill out an application at the same place.
