Hello. Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Leadership Formula podcast. And today, we're talking all about energy. And I know, like a decade ago, if you said, like, you give good energy, people would, like, look at you like you got a screw loose or your little woo. Now, I gotta tell you, one of the greatest compliments I get or give is that your energy is beautiful and it's peaceful and loving. Giving good energy is really, really important. And in this hustle culture and, you know, just the whacked out world that we live in today, it's not changing, right? But you can control how you show up in it. We can't control people, places, or things, only our response and reactions to them. So today, I want to give you some Enneagram hacks on how to shift your energy. Now, we're always looking for energy hacks, and I don't just mean, like, to have more energy, but to have good energy, right? And depending on your Enneagram type, this is why this can be different for other people. And if you just kind of blanket energy hacks, what works for one may not be the best medicine for somebody else. And what I love about the Enneagram is that it's a roadmap and framework, and you can use it to navigate where your energy's at. You know, I think sometimes we operate so much in autopilot that we don't even realize sometimes what the hell's going on in our own body. And you can have all the great strategy, you can know all the right things to do, but if your energy's off, it doesn't freaking matter. It really doesn't matter. And especially if you're in this online space where you are a personal brand or you are selling, you know, products or services as the brand, your energy's off. I don't care how good the marketing plan is or even the words you Use people, the right people, the quality people will feel it and read right through it. And what the Enneagram gives me and many of you as you are learning how to integrate this in your life. And again, I just want to thank you for showing up for the integration of that. I know with all the Enneagram information out there, it can be kind of overwhelming and confusing because if you're just taking in information, it's really not giving you the transformation you want, it's the integration of it. And what I love is that the Enneagram is just a roadmap and gives you framework in which to work off of, so that if, even if you're totally just on autopilot, you'll recognize certain behaviors. And when you understand and integrate the framework of the Enneagram in your life, your business, whatever it is, I use it for everything. You can kind of see where a shift in your energy must happen. But when we kind of are acting from a place of, like, shame or desperation or anger or whatever it is, it's very, very hard to shift that energy. We can fake it till we make it, but I hate that you can fake it till you make it, but you're still going to attract crap in your life if you do that. And so these energy hacks using the Enneagram will allow you to really come from your most authentic self in order to really move. Even if you're going through some really hard shit. Just because you're going through hard things or in a period of your life or a season that's really challenging doesn't mean we kind of go in hibernation until we figure it out. Just because you're going through hard things or in a season doesn't mean you have shit energy either, right? Some of the hardest moments of my life have happened the last few years, and my energy has never been better. And I've used the Enneagram in order to really move through that a lot faster. The Enneagram symbol reflects how your energy is constantly shifting and changing. And the thing is, is most of you, you know, took an online assessment, got the final score, and that that's all you're kind of focusing on, is that type. And just so you know, 65 to 70% of you, if that's all you've used, are most likely inaccurately typed. So you're using this framework in a way that doesn't serve you. The hacks that I'm going to give you if you're typed improperly won't help you, right? So I really want you to take time in discovering your true Enneagram type. If you're going to go solo on this, what I'll usually tell you is take the top four and really dive in with the motives and the main driver for everything you do. A lot of times, the top score you'll get on an online assessment is just your behaviors, which are a protective mechanism for your true core motive and your true fear of most things out there. You can always do a typing session with me. That is 90 minutes of definitely soul seeking, soul searching, soul discovery, and you'll end up with your true Enneagram type. And I'm working on something really special for all of you that maybe can't spend 90 minutes with me or that's kind of out of your range. I'm working on something very special for you to be able to be typed properly. All right, I keep saying it, so it's got to happen. But what I love about the Enneagram isn't just your core type. There are four other types connected to you, and you can use that framework in order to kind of shift your energy. But today, I'm going to give you some hacks. So even in a minute, you know, your sensations, your emotions and thoughts can change in dramatic ways, even when you're, like, in a really good spot, right? We have things that happen, you know, sometimes subconsciously, that trigger us. I've had incidents in my life where I'm totally fine and my whole body and nervous system is alerted to something, right? And that can shift your energy. And when we can recognize what's happening in this framework for our type, we can kind of ask ourselves the right questions and kind of pattern interrupt what's happening in traffic. We can be triggered. We're scrolling Instagram and something hits us, right? It can change in an instant. Your Enneagram stress and growth patterns can really help you to find your flow. Now, the Enneagram is a map framework showing how your energy can shift into two different directions. You've heard me talk about your growth number and your stress numbers, and both directions are neither good nor bad, right? When you move in the direction of integration, otherwise known as your growth number, you are getting healthier in your type. Now, your growth number isn't your core type, right? So as an eight, you would think, like, what's the best version of an 8? Yes, I can be the best version of an 8, but that's only kind of doing half the work, right? My integration, my growth number is the enneagram2 okay, so we want to be able to shift into that. Doesn't mean it changes that I'm an eight. I'll always be an eight. But if I can shift into that two, it makes my eightness shine. Right? And as you get healthier in your type, you feel better. In all nine types, we want to really get to the goal of being able to embody all nine. And honestly, I can say for the most part, I embody pretty much all nine. There's one of them that I have a harder time with. But, you know, that's the goal in using your framework. Okay. When you move in the direction of your stress number, you're kind of getting stuck in your personality. And this is where your energy kind of takes on a facade. It's where we use coping mechanisms or protective mechanisms. This is where we fake it till we make it. But I want to tell you, this isn't bad news, right? Especially when you understand this beautiful framework. Signs of stress are a wake up call for you to move back towards integration. This is how I explain your stress number. It's not permission to kind of whip yourself with shame or hide out in a hole. Right? I use the stress numbers for myself and all the people that I work with as warning lights. Right? It's like when you understand what your stress number looks like and have very clear, clearly identified what that looks like. It's just like, okay, we got to pay attention here, Pay attention here. Learning from your enneagram stress and growth pattern can help you to find balance in your type and allow you to shift your energy. Remember, it's really important to explore both the healthy and average behaviors. You got to kind of know what you're looking for. It doesn't mean we stay stuck in there. It doesn't mean we use it as an excuse to say, like, this is just the way it is, or, oh, my gosh, that's so eight of me. No, no, no, no, no. We're not playing that bullshit. Okay? This is like, okay, I want to be the best version of myself. Great. I need to look at this. All right? I was telling one of my clients today, you know, shame keeps us stuck. Compassion sets us free. Okay? So if you look at your stress number and then you beat yourself up for it, I'm pretty certain if you're driving in your car and the warning lights go on, you don't go shaming your car. Right? This is the same thing. We have to look at ourselves with compassion. It just means we're under stress. And depending on your Enneagram type, you'll know exactly what's happening because it's usually rooted in the core fear of your Enneagram type. Okay? The more self aware you become, the more quickly you realize when you are getting stuck and your energy is becoming stagnant and you need to shift the type you go into. Stress is also like a safety valve to prevent you from getting worse. It prevents you from moving into a place where you lose connection with your true self. This was a huge eye opener for me. So as an enneagram 8, my stress number is the 5 and not the beautiful parts of the 5. Always I can take on the beautiful parts of the five, but when I go to the five cave, I use that as like, okay, if I stay stuck in here, it's going to go very dark very quickly. And instead of shaming myself about that, I can identify, okay, what am I afraid of? Where do I feel like I'm about to be betrayed, violated, or put in a vulnerable situation? Because that is the biggest fear of the eight, right? And I can kind of pause in that and be like, okay, I can stay here for a moment and then we're going to shift it, and I can shift out of that five cape very, very quickly, right? Once you discover your true Enneagram type, that's why it's so important to be typed properly, you guys. You'll be able to recognize how you're doing and paying attention to how you're showing up in the world. And use this information to help you stay at your best, not to keep you stuck. Right? If you're moving towards stress, then it's crucial to take better care of yourself and really find an honoring practice that will help you. And again, for each Enneagram type that can look very, very different. When you pay attention to your Enneagram stress and growth patterns, you're more likely to show up in the best way each day, fully open to your inner wisdom. I'm not going to say it's going to be easy without pain or convenient or not frustrating, because it is. Those warning lights, even when it goes on in your car, really piss you off. It always happens at the worst time, right? But it's kind of a beautiful, divine reminder, like, we gotta honor the vehicle, whether it's the one we're driving or the one that's driving us in this beautiful body of ours. So for my Enneagram ones integration, when you're kind of operating at your strongest, most honoring ways, you take on the healthy side of the seven, right? You Become more playful, curious. You can see the bigger picture. You're not as rigid. You want to get the best out of life. And the beauty of life comes through. Now, when one needs to shift, it is when they go to the average or unhealthy part of the type 4. That internal critic works. Over time, they become overly sensitive, feel misunderstood, leans towards fantasy. Now what I'll usually tell an enneagram1 to shift their energy is to get outside, put their phone away and play without an expectation of what that will look like. Play for an Enneagram one is huge and hugely important to shift their energy. Because when that sheriff, the reformer, kind of gets stuck in that inner critic, nothing beautiful will happen there. And even if they try to lead somebody, that inner critic will kind of come out of them onto other people too. So playing and unscheduled things for a 1. I know all my Enneagram ones are like, hell no. If you really want to shift your energy and have people receive that beautiful energy, this is what's required. My enneagram 2's the helpers. When you're at your strongest, most honoring places, you go to the healthy side of the Enneagram 4, right? You practice self care. You learn how to say no. You're open to your own inner experience, not that of other people. Your ability to express the creative side of you instead of just like in tactical. How can I help everybody, right? A surefire sign. Surefire. Sure way that you can tell an Enneagram too is kind of needing to shift their energy because they look like an average to unhealthy. 8. That neediness can turn into dominance. They can be very defending of themselves. Their love becomes demanding and even hysterical sometimes they become distrustful. They attempt to control and bully by taking charge like that is so outside of the two. You know, in raising an Enneagram too. When I start to see these, I know my son needs a shift in energy. And what I will request him to do is go do something by himself, right? Go to that healthy four, that individualist. Go golf, go. Right? Go take a hot bath, right? Do something for yourself to stay in that healthier side of the four. That will shift your energy. And then you can step into the healthy two of yourself, that beautiful helper more naturally. And that energy won't lie. All right? My Enneagram 3 achievers, the integration. The healthiest honoring part of them goes to the healthy side of the type 6, the loyalist. When a 3 is at their very best, and not in achieving, but at their soulful best. They're more willing to follow and less need for control. They become less competitive. Teamwork and relationship become a lot easier. They don't feel like they're like dragging people along, and loyalty to them becomes important. It isn't about what these relationships can do for them. It's more. It becomes more about what can I do for these relationships. And it becomes this even energy exchange. Now, when a three is kind of going off the rails a little bit and needs an energy shift, they go to the unhealthy to average side of the enneagram9, which is that peacemaker, the ability to do gets completely blocked. Their bodies burn out, they become less productive. They may find a way to numb out with alcohol, food, drugs, Netflix. The thing is, with the Threes, very rarely will we see this. We will feel that anxious energy, right? But if. If you're a three, you know, when this is happening, and even if you don't let anybody see this, a way to really pull yourself out of this and get out of that desperate kind of I need to succeed energy is to go lean into some friendships where there isn't an agenda or there isn't an ulterior motive. Maybe do something that isn't measured or do something that you don't post about on Instagram or, you know, do something that isn't for the world to see. Do something for you. All right? That's how the achiever can be their very best. And I know that is the type that really strives to be the best at everything. But the very best you can be is to kind of slow down so you can speed up later.
The enneagram 4 is the individualists, otherwise known as the Romantic. They have the strongest emotional energy on the entire Enneagram. And we can feel it. You are also the most intuitive on the Enneagram. And the integration of the enneagram 4 goes to the healthy side of the type 1. So when a 4 is at their best, they can be their creative, obvious, expressive selves. But they will also find strength and become empowered. They become aware of their physical desires. They become more vocal and assertive, and they feel like they're equipped and capable. They're not looking like somebody has something that they don't. Okay? They're able to take action instead of just kind of be in the emotion of everything. Now in enneagram 4, when they're under stress, go to the average side or the really dark side of the type 2. So where that individualist is kind of like finding their soul's purpose. That's why they're great storytellers and creatives and artists and musicians and all of that. When they are leaning towards the stressful side, their warning lights come on. They start to look like an unhealthy, too. So they kind of retreat to compulsive doing for others. They escape with pleasures. You know, they can kind of go down the rabbit hole. They can actually become hyperactive, maybe even manic thought process can take over their life a little bit. They can feel like they're giving, giving, giving, and they're not getting in return. They can become defensive and all sorts of things. So when I am seeing a four that needs to shift their energy, I definitely encourage them to put a little, just one or two things of structure in their life to give them the confidence so that they can feel more capable and feel like they can take charge of their life. The enneagram fives, the investigators, they are the most introverted on the Enneagram, and their energy can be very quiet, but also very, very loud, right? A5 at their most honoring highest energy is looking like the healthy side of an 8. It's kind of hard to see a 5 kind of stepping into that challenger. You go from the investigator to the challenger. But when they really embrace the eightness in them, they can find strength, become empowered instead of kind of hoarding their energy. They definitely enjoy life more fully, and they have stronger intimate relationships. They can effectively step into leadership roles. They become more vocal and assertive. Right? And that actually empowers them. It really, really does. And it actually gives them more energy. I. I often tell the fives, like, I want you to step out. I promise you have enough energy, and at any time, you can go retreat. But let's step into this now. When a 5 goes to the dark side, when their warning lights come on and they need a shift in energy, they can look like an average to an unhealthy type 7. So they also can retreat into compulsive doing, right? It's almost like this frantic, like, hamster wheel, right? They can also enter a fantasy world and disconnect from reality because you know that seven, they're not ever going to be motivated like a seven, but they can look very seven like, which is like avoiding pain or avoiding things, right? They can also engage in some risky behavior to avoid that. Right? Sometimes through, you know, substances or anything outside of themselves. And also fives can escape with pleasure. There's the difference between, like, solitude and isolating. There's a difference between honoring and escaping. Right. So when I see a five kind of go into this more manic looking behavior, I'm not saying they're manic, but manic looking behavior. This is when their eightness needs to kind of take over. And when you understand and recognize that this is where your type goes into certain situations, it's a lot easier. And you can have a lot more compassion for yourself when you're pulling yourself through it. All right, we got a few more to go. The loyalist, the six looks like the healthy side of the nine. When they're doing their best, instead of, like worrying all the time and like forward thinking, Forward thinking, forward thinking and spinning themselves out in that healthy part of the nine, their mind quiets down and they actually become more trusting and flexible. They're able to be more supportive instead of, like feeling like everybody's out to get them and they can really trust their gut. That nine is in the body triad, body center of intelligence. That is very instinctual. And because that 6 is so in their head, sometimes they don't trust their own instincts. And so when a six can do this, they can take their strategy and their instincts and they're miracle workers. Now when a six is having their warning lights come on and they need to shift their energy, their anxiety actually increases. Their frantic attempts to gather resources kind of go escalating. They actually may tell lies or deceive to look competent because they look like an unhealthy three. Right. They're driven to produce. This is where they can be like, do more, do more, do more. They can be hyper focused on doing, and it's. They think it's a way that it's going to quiet their mind, but it actually creates more. More so the warning light for a six. And because my best friend's a six, I can recognize this very easily. When I see her, like, frantically trying to do more, it actually serves her less. So this is when we try to push towards that healthier nine that Yoda like wisdom with the strategy of the six. All right, my sevens. When they're at their best, they actually go to the healthy side of the five. You know, the enthusiastic visionary is the extrovert. Most extroverted, typically on the enneagram. Not all, but typically most extroverted. And because they want to experience the juicy parts of every bit of life, they can look very squirrel like or unfocused. And so for all their visionary, beautiful gifts to come to light, they kind of need a place of solitude. And their healthy side is the Enneagram 5, which is a quiet investigator. This is where they become more focused. They engage in more and practices that actually really honor their energy. Right? Their consumption goes down and they can actually create more. They become more introspective. Now when I see a 7 going off the rails a little bit where they need to make that shift, they go to the unhealthy side of the one. And I am raising an Enneagram seven, so I see this one loud and clear. When a seven who is this like free spirited fun person all of a sudden becomes critical and judgmental, they're agitated with anybody who limits their freedom. Their thinking all of a sudden becomes black and white and they become picky and rigid. That is the opposite of what the healthiest seven does. And before, like I used to engage, when a seven would go to this dark side, that's when I would usually engage because it would trigger the eight in me. And how I help sevens shift, that is when we see that this is when they need some solitude. They don't need more, they need less. So that doesn't work for all the Enneagram types. So you can see where energy hacks just in general won't work, but knowing your framework of your type really can. So finding some solitude, getting out in nature, quiet by themselves, this is where the seven can really kind of zone in on that shift in energy. And then all their creative juices, it sticks. And all of a sudden like everything they put out in the world is gold. Okay, my Enneagram eights, my fellow challengers. Yeah, we have the biggest, strongest, most intense energy on the Enneagram. And our energy never lies. Never lies, Right? So when we're not in a good place, the world knows about it and usually we don't even care. But if we're going to be the most honoring, healthiest version of ourselves, we really do. So the integration part of the eight goes to the healthy side of the Enneagram too. Like I said earlier, this is where an 8 can become softer and more giving. It's where we become more attentive to others and more caring. I've been very nurturing lately with everybody around me not feeling well. The 8 can show vulnerability and tenderness. I've been leaning hardcore into that. And the eight can learn to value others beliefs and see others as equals. Now an 8 is always up for a good fight. And when they are stressed out and they are done fighting like the fighting isn't even working anymore, they go to the dark side of that five. Like I said, the five cave. This is where an eight will withdraw and isolate, become emotionally distant and less expressive. Self care kind of goes to the shitter and they detach. This is when an 8 can detach and go to that 5 cave right in front of you and you can feel that energy completely shift and you don't know what the hell happened. This is why energy doesn't lie. And you have to understand this framework to help you, because I can be right in front of a bunch of people and I can go into this five part of me, and all of a sudden nothing works. And it's very frustrating.
All right, last, but definitely not least ever is the peacemaker, the enneagram9. Their healthiest integration goes to the healthy side of the three. So that peacemaker is all about harmony and the environment. And they can kind of go slower, but that doesn't always really help them be their very best. Right? They're all kind of about the environment and kind of will put their own needs and thoughts and opinions to the side. But that isn't where their gifts are because their beautiful integration goes to the healthy side of the three. And this is where they can learn to feel special and they're able to take decisive action in the world. Not just like, yeah, whatever you want. No, they make their opinions and thoughts and feelings known and then they go. They can also adopt a positive view and they're able to stand behind their accomplishments instead of, you know, kind of hiding behind them. Now when a 9 feels stressed and their warning lights come on and they need a shift, they go to the average side of the six. So a nine can kind of really shut down. But when that doesn't work anymore, their. Their passive nature can become reactive and worrisome. They can seek security in external structures. They become very suspicious and anxiety intensity. And then it goes to self doubt. So even the less expressive sixes, even if they're not in their like passive state, this self doubt and worry and anxiousness can be very internal sometimes. And that can have them stonewalling and shutting down and nothing good will happen there. So you can see, like with all of this, all of these different types, even in your stress number, you can be doing it in front of people, but faking it till you make it. And I'm telling you all of that doesn't lie. And if I was going through your enneagram type and you're like recognizing your stress number, but you're still showing up and trying to maybe lead or sell or parent or cohabitate or, you know, meet new people or date or whatever that is. You want to know why it's not working? It's because you aren't looking at your warning lights and looking at how you can shift it again. The shame will keep you stuck in that energy. The shame will keep you stuck financially, stuck relationally, stuck in every way. Compassion is the way to freedom. And first and foremost, if you really want to shift your energy, it can't come from a place of anger or desperation. You must lean into compassion in the framework of the Enneagram. When you really understand how to integrate it in your life, it will allow you to to have the abundant life, the abundant bank account, the abundant relationships, the abundant love and sex. And all the juicy parts of life really lie. When you can shift your energy that fast. And even if you're spinning out of control, and even if nobody knows you're spinning out, you can use this framework to help you become the ultimate leader for your life. And that is my goal for each and every one of you as I help you integrate the Enneagram in your life. I am so proud of you. I really, really am. I know this work is not easy, and for all the feedback you've been giving on the last episode about what your inner child has to do with your business, this all ties together.
