Hello and welcome back to an episode of the Leadership Formula podcast. And I am so excited about today's topic. It is one that as you dive deeper into the Enneagram, this is what I mean by it's not complicated, but it does get a little complex. And I will admit when I, you know, I've been not only a practitioner and integrator of the Enneagram for close to over a decade now, but also a teacher of it. And I never really gave this part of the Enneagram too much credibility. I didn't really dive deeper into it. But as I grow in my own learning, integrating and working with thousands and thousands of people, I've done in depth interviews with thousands of people. I started to recognize things about the Enneagram and where these other beautiful complexities can come into play, especially for you as an individual. Now, the tri type isn't necessarily something that you have to know. It isn't something that you have to know about the people that you're with or leading or loving. I of course, geek out on it and I was just kind of going down the rabbit hole of my closest friends and why they are so powerful in my life and where their tri types fall. So for those of you that don't know what a tri type is, this is where we dominate in each of the centers of intelligence. And the centers of intelligence. I think where I started to really dive deeper into the power of understanding Tri type is because the centers of intelligence, I believe, are if you know nothing about the Enneagram or you want to learn about the Enneagram, or you want to understand the people in your life without bringing up the Enneagram, making somebody take an assessment which are inaccurate 65 to 70% of the time. But I have a solution for that, so I'll get back to that. The centers of intelligence are probably the most important thing that you understand and dive really deep into. So understanding the centers of intelligence, you can also understand when you go into the wings and the lines and all of that, you see where you go sometimes in another center of intelligence, right? Whether it's under stress, going into a growth pattern, sometimes your wing falls into a different center of intelligence. So you can see where understanding not just the centers of intelligence, but where you dominate in each center of intelligence can be really valuable information. So this compiled alongside, you know, your instinctual response to life, you know, your subtype, which is something I dive really deep into. In your blueprints. Yes, blueprints are now available. And I'll get into that as well. Understanding your instinctual response to life really can help you understand why two Enneagram types are really different from each other. And I was doing a off site with a team at Google last month, and it's funny because I was talking to the leader of the group, she's an Enneagram one, and she was kind of giving me the background of each of the people that would be there. And she was talking about one of the types that. And he admitted this too, they struggle with each other sometimes, but they're exactly the same Enneagram type and the same subtype. And I think it's like situations like this where they present very different, they express very different, even though they have the same type and the same instinctual response to life. But their tri types could not be more different where they dominate in the other centers of intelligence, completely different. And just like anything, like, using the right tool for the toolbox is really important. Sometimes we do need that instinctual center, which is, you know, where we dominate in the 8, 9 and 1. Sometimes we do need to use the feels, which is in the center of the twos, threes and fours. And sometimes we do need to use our thinking and brain power, which is where the 5, 6 and 7 is housed in. You know, for your enneagram type, your instinctual home, where you go is always going to be the same. So for me, as an eight, like my very first response to anything, good, bad, indifferent, is the instinctual center. It's why my eight is the dominator. I'm always going to be motivated like that. But where I go, depending on what I need, the feels, feelings, all sorts of stuff, or if I need to use my brain power, I don't always look 8 like when I'm using my heart center or my thinking center now, you know, depending on where your lines fall, your growth and your stress, that can look really, really different. But understanding the tri type is something that I love. I'm kind of obsessed with at this point, you know, and some of the cool things like sometimes your wings or your lines show up in your tri type. My growth number shows up in my tri type, which makes a lot of sense because when I'm in the feels with it being my growth number, it's why unless you kind of know me, you may not get that intensity so much. Even though you might feel it, you may not see it be expressed. Because I can be in the feels in the two zone. In my thinking center, I dominate in the six, which is that strategist, troubleshooter. You can see that as an 8 to 6 tri type. I'm also known as the rescuer. That tri type has the name called the rescuer, where I am extra cautious, especially when it comes to vulnerabilities, mine and other people. So how, how did the, the tri types come along? You know, like I said, we use all three of our centers of intelligence. We really, really do. And kind of to go through them really quickly, you know. The nine enneagram types are grouped into three triads. Three enneagram types in each triad. And each triad represents a different center of intelligence. The head, 5, 6, 7, the heart, 2, 3, 4, and the instinct or gut 8, 9, 1. In human nature, we use all three centers. But we tend to overuse, dominate in one of those three centers. Like I said, that's where your home enneagram type falls. So in the instinctual center, even if you aren't an 8, 9 and 1, you dominate in one of those three. In that center, it's body based, can be seen as having a desire to direct their own course, take action in the world. It's like present focused physical environment. It's the gutsy, instinctive and visceral center. The primary issues in that center are judgment, denial, resistance. So this instinctual center seeks acceptance and a sense of well being. Most of all. These three types want to be allowed to be themselves. They don't want to be controlled. Independence and autonomy is really important. So the heart center, the emotional or heart center, where the 2, 3 and 4 fall. Even if you're not a 2, 3 and 4, you dominate in one of those, in one of these centers. And that's the feeling based center. This center has a desire to positively affect others. They're driven by significance. They focus on the relationships. Heartfelt, emotive, adaptable. Their primary issues are of craving, attention, needing affirmation, wanting to Be attached to others. Just because I'm an aide doesn't mean I don't have that when it comes to feeling. Right. So whether or not they overtly express it, the types in the heart center are motivated and take action when they feel emotional anxiety. They fear being ignored and unseen. They want to avoid feeling grief and shame and to be seen as having value in the eyes of others. And this is why they can seek attention, admiration and things like that. And the mental center, the thinking center, this is where the 5, 6, 7 is housed. Thought based and can be seen as having a desire to give greater importance to the interior world of ideas. They focus on their thoughts. This is where they. They instinctively go first, right? Knowledgeable, intellectual, visionary. Their primary issues are aversion, avoidance and projection with a focus on authority. And they struggle with preconceptions that can manifest as prejudices and the fear of being alienated. Whether or not they overtly express it. They are motivated and take action when they feel fear and anxiety. And how that looks for the 5, 6 and 7 is very different. This is why if you dominate, it has certain type in the center. It's why it can look very different. Because let's say you dominate. Let's say you're an enneagram one, but in your mental center, you dominate in the five looks very different than dominating in the seven. And we'll kind of get into that. Like I said, sometimes your wings will fall into that, sometimes it won't. Neither of my wings are in my tri type. For some people it is. But this is also why you can look very different. But it's so cool. It's so cool. Your subtype, you know, that instinctual drive that govern the manner in which you will focus on survival. In the context of the enneagram, these drives or instincts are referred to as like the self preservation, the social and the one on one or sexual type. Whether or not that's consciously expressed, we all dominate one and they stack differently too. Kind of like how the tri type can stack. Your instinctual response can stack too. So although one of the three types within the tri type is dominant, that's your enneagram type. That does not change. The other two types play a large role in your life. So what's important to understand is that these two other types may or may not be the types along the lines or connections or the wings, like I said. So how do you, how do you take this information and work with it? Right? One way is to understand and, and really look at where maybe in your life that this has been a positive thing, or maybe not so positive. Understanding the differences within the type by looking at the the nine tri types of each enneagram type. So if you're doing math, all my numbers people, there's nine different tri type combinations for each enneagram type. So that makes like 81 different tri type combinations. Actually there's only 27 different tri types because if you put the three numbers together for each one, there's one that matches in each. So there's. So there's 27 subtypes and 27 tri types. It's pretty cool. It's pretty cool. This also sheds light on the similarities of those sharing the same types in a tri type. This also makes sense why my closest friends, they dominate in different areas. We have some in common and some that are different. I fall sometimes in their tri type, sometimes I don't. It's so cool. The tri type stacking and instinctual stacking are interacting parts of the complex defense system designed to ensure your survival. So you can, when you understand like your instinctual response to life plus your tri type and where you go, you're going to see where maybe you use some of these in other areas. Understanding this, let's say you are reacting and you're in the feels all the time or the people around you are highly emotional people, but you're an instinctual person. It might be why you're mistyped as a two, three or four sometimes. Right? So this is cool information and this is something that I dive into on one on one sessions with you. In the blueprint, I don't list your tri type, but in the one on one sessions we, we go into it because we talk about, you know, the people in your life and all the other things. What's cool about my tri type, when I was really diving into it is in my tri type I have the two, which is what my son is, and I have a seven wing, which is what my daughter is. And the more that I understand those types because I'm all about learning all the tools in my tool belt. So depending on your tri type, you know, I've talked about your framework between the wings and your lines and that's four types connected to you. And depending on what your tri type is, you might have access even easier to some of these other types too. So I have a 6 in my tri type that isn't one that's naturally on my framework, but because I dominate in that area with my thinking center, it's an extra tool for Me. Just as with your primary enneagram type, you will experience the other types in your tri type in both positive and negative ways and they act in concert with one another. Any of the tri type archetypes can be delightful or difficult depending on the psychological and emotional and spiritual health of each person. So to understand how that works in practice, you need to examine where you're at. Your health, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, of yourself and the other people. If, if someone is functioning at an average or higher level, you will display the positive traits of the type and the tri type. I can see where when I was younger, before I really dove head first into this, obviously my 8 was pretty dominant. But when I was in my feels, especially in romantic partnerships, I can look like an unhealthy too. Sometimes that codependent part of me, it isn't always just that beautiful, compassionate, empathetic helper that I am today. But there are moments where I can look like an over giving, codependent, unhealthy, over giving too. And same thing with the six in my thinking center. That worst case scenario thinking. I don't always use that in the most healthy ways. If you know, I'm not on point with my emotional, spiritual and psychological health. But I like to believe today, 95% of the time I live in the healthy ranges in those centers. Okay, so how do you figure this out? You're like great trace. How do I figure out the tri type? First of all, you're telling me that you know, most of the online assessments are inaccurate 65 to 70% of the time and that is 100% true. I have done thousands of typing sessions with paid tests before and those numbers still ring true. They really, really do. And so you have a few different options. Obviously you can take your time with this and, and really go into this. Having the right information is super helpful and valuable, especially if you're going to use this beautiful tool of the enneagram, which next to my faith, it is the number one tool in my life, personally and professionally. So you know, I've been working really, really hard behind the scenes on bringing an assessment to you that I find reliable. And I've been working with it specifically for over two years now. And with 95% ACC, and like I said, I've been doing interviews to confirm this. I'm really happy with it. And so with that I can bring you your enneagram type blueprint and that's where you get typed properly. You will also find out your subtype, your instinctual response to life And I've put together the most beautiful, valuable, gold filled blueprint for each of you. And it's 75 pages of value. It's not fluff, it's not bullshit. It is like value. It's like your soul handbook qu honestly and your framework and where you go in life. And those are available now. Hallelujah. You can go to Tracey omalley.com to get yours right now. Now, that being said, back to the tri type. That is not in the blueprint. Because this is something that, you know, we dive deep into in my one on one sessions. Is this necessary to know super valuable. 100%. 100% knowing where I go and where, when I'm thinking what I look like, I know the downfalls of that type. I also know the healthy parts of that type. And I choose to lean into the healthier parts of those types. So when you do a one on one session with me, they're 90 minutes, you get a blueprint as well. And we go into your tri type and how this plays out. And you know, we talk about your relationships and partnership in your life. Maybe if you're a parent, we talk about what that looks like as well. But really using all the gifts and the full system and framework of the Enneagram, including the tri types will be super valuable to you. I am so excited that I have been diving deeper into the value of the tri type. You know, I've said this before, like we are here to use our intuition, but for so many of us we've. This is where like the spirituality and psychology and life experience collide and the gift and the beauty of the Enneagram with understanding your subtype and your Enneagram type and the lines and the wings, but understanding after intuition, you know, how we take that intuition and move through life, Whether it's through instinct and reacting to present time, whether it's using our heart and our feeling center and kind of taking an assessment from the past, or going into our thoughts and our thinking center and become more visionary future focus. We need all three. We really do need all three. And so when we understand where our intuition is housed and where we go with these other centers of intelligence, it makes moving through the beautiful parts, the exciting parts, the scary parts and the hard parts of life a lot easier. When you have a roadmap through any kind of storm, seriously, you can get through it without as much wreckage, without as much energetic bankruptcy, without as much conflict. You can move through it with more boundaries and freedom and fulfillment. And that is what I'm here to help you with this is the Gift of the Enneagram. I love that you chose me as your Enneagram kind of expert. I don't throw that word around lightly. I have been using this and integrating it not just myself but with others for so long now. And with this in the trenches with people work, I really get to see how this plays out in real life, in real situations, personally and professionally, in families, in parenting, in romantic partnerships, in adult friendships, in all of it. And I would be honored to take you through that journey. If you want to dabble in it and know at least that you're getting the right information, go get your blueprint right now. It is so good and I printed one out and it looks so great. I had it bound because I have a lot of people that have teams and you know, the people that they work with or you know, mastermind groups that they want to gift them to their attendees and their clients and it's such a beautiful gift. I did it with Human Design one. I had my Human Design blueprint printed out and now I have my Enneagram type blueprint. It's a really good reference guide and I want you to get yours now so that when you're using the tool of the Enneagram you have the right information in the right hand handbook. And then if you need a guide, you know where to find me@tracy o'malley.com the work with me section. If you do one on one coaching with me, that's by application only.
