EP320: How the Enneagram is THE Tool to Help You Get the Growth and Life You Desire and Deserve
21 Feb 2023 · 2 min
Tracy O'Malley argues the Enneagram accelerates personal growth as a daily practice, not a one-time fix. Most online Enneagram tests are 65-70% inaccurate, while her assessment reaches 95% accuracy. She compares deep self-work to excavation and car maintenance, offering 90-minute deep dives and team workshops as concrete next steps.

Okay, I know you may have heard about the Enneagram or someone told you you need to know all about it. So here you are.
But what the hell do you do with it? Great news. You are in the right place.
Lead with the Enneagram is the show where you will actually learn how to use this incredible growth tool and apply it in all areas of your life, personally and professional. Hi, I'm Tracy. And to be honest with you, I was a skeptic of the Enneagram before I started to actually integrate it into my life. In fact, in true enneagram 8 style, I told my therapist to F off when she wanted me to dive into.
It well over a decade ago.
Now that I have more than a decade of experience using the Enneagram and working on myself in my family with those closest to me, building my own bulletproof leadership, sales teams with one on one clients, couples, leading workshops for top Fortune 100 executives, and speaking to large audiences all across the globe about this powerful tool. I've got the proof and deep understanding of how to help you implement this into your life instead of it just.
Being some fun thing you heard about.
The Enneagram can be a complex model. But with me as your guide, I will show you how to first lead yourself in a powerful, effective and compassionate way and then help you lead others that way in your life as well. This podcast will have powerful conversations with guests, live typing sessions, as well as solo episodes of Breaking down dynamics of the Enneagram and how they impact your life, career and relationships. So now let's dive in.
So I was chatting with a client of VIP, Private Client yesterday and something came up that I thought would help most of you and, you know, this constant quest to being the best version of ourselves, the ultimate leader in our life and for those that we love and for those that we are here to make an impact on. I think that especially in the personal development world, we're looking to check some boxes, right? When I do this, check. When I have this, check. When I do the inner work, check. When I heal my inner child, check. When I go to that mastermind or hire this coach, check, check, check. Right? And something that I want to remind you is that the process never ends. And quite honestly, in order to be the best version of yourself, the next level kind of leader that you want to be in your home and in your businesses and in your communities, you have to understand that the process never ends. And it doesn't mean you didn't do a good enough job the first time. I. You Know when this client of mine is an enneagram, one that we were chatting, you know, and they are motivated by a need to be good and. Right, right. That's pretty much the motive behind everything they, they do. And she was talking about like she's in that healthy growth number, that seven. And it feels radically uncomfortable. And that's the thing about growth, it is uncomfortable. But she felt like she wasn't doing enough. And you know, maybe she didn't do the work good enough, you know, when we were together or she hasn't faced some things. And here's the deal with growing yourself. The excavation process never ends. It doesn't. And it's kind of like, let's say you blew up your life like I did, right? And there's a lot of wreckage and rubble that you might be under. And at first, when you are doing the work and it doesn't have to be a huge blow up, but let's say you just got a few decades under your belt of things and traumas and, and suppressed emotions and memories and all of that, think of that as the rubble. Some of it will be your decisions, and you're doing some of it. You come by it innocently. But either way, the excavation process has to happen. And we don't just go in and check a box and all of the rubble and the wreckage be gone. You do it one brick at a time. And sometimes we can do it faster, right? If we have support, if we have the space to do that. Right. But every single day there is a little bit more that you pull off the pile. Right. One of the things that I speak of a lot, it is probably my favorite, favorite thing that I gained, learned, and like got hit square upside the head in recovery over 11 years ago now, almost 11 years ago now, is that, you know, we are not fixed, we are not cured, we are never done. Quite honestly, what we have is a daily reprieve that is contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition. Now we all have a spiritual condition. We all, we all do. And at some times in our lives, it's stronger and flourishing and healthier than others. And then what happens for most of us because you're human, is that we get comfortable and we get cocky and we get complacent and this is life sometimes, right? But what we have is that daily reprieve that's contingent on the maintenance of that spiritual condition. And so just like any kind of fitness, whether it's spiritual, emotional, physical, if we neglect it or aren't consistent with it and Aren't committed to it. It's almost like starting over when we try to get back to it. And this emotional inner work that is constant has to be tended to. It is honestly what comes first in my life in order to be an incredible mother, a good friend, a powerful businesswoman, an incredible coach. For many of you, it's because I put that maintenance of that spiritual condition first, right? And that way when things happen professionally, personally, emotionally, spiritually in the world, pandemics, deaths, you name it. Because I'm constantly working on that spiritual fitness and my spiritual condition, the muscle's always strong. I wanted to give you another analogy which came up yesterday. I want you to think about a car, okay? I'm a former car girl. I used to be in the car industry. I do love cars and I'm always fascinated by them. But I want you to think about a car. And if you're like me, I'm somebody who likes a new car every four to five years. I really do. Because I don't like the maintenance on a car. I don't like having to worry that it's going to turn on. I know it doesn't always make smart financial sense, but like, the cost of that for me is worth it to have the peace of mind. And when you get a brand new car, the maintenance that you do on it is cosmetic. It's washing it, it's vacuuming it, it's shining it, you know, things like that. Maybe doing an oil change here and there, putting gas in it. That's like a surface level maintenance. And I think a lot of us are operating in our lives, especially if we've done some work or we've gone to an event or we've, we're in a mastermind, we've hired the coach, we're in therapy, and a lot of the maintenance we're doing once we've checked those boxes is surface level shit, right? I want you to think about you and your growth like that old car sitting in the driveway with 300,000 miles and it's reliable because the maintenance that has been done on it consistently over those hundreds of thousands of miles have allowed it to be reliable, trusted and true, right? But so often when you know, the first problem arises, whether it's in our car or in our emotional work or our professional work, we bail and we just get a new shiny object, like a new shiny car. And I'm not ripping on the new shiny cars, I'm here for it. But when it comes to my growth, I operate my growth like it's the old beautiful Reliant pickup truck that's sitting in the driveway with 300,000 miles on it. And you must, must do that. There's no way around it. I've tried. I've watched thousands of others that I've worked with try. And it just doesn't work that way. It doesn't. You can't find an easier, softer way. Half measures avail you absolutely nothing. And so if you are here to grow, I want to just remind you of this, that what you have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of your spiritual condition. Maintenance every day. And the more that you know this, you cosign that you show up for it every day. Even on the days it's hard, I'm not telling you this is easy because it's not. It's really freaking hard. Some days it really, really is. And when I do take an extra day or two off of that maintenance of that spiritual condition, it shows up. It shows up in the choices I make. It shows up in my mood. It shows up in my energy. It shows up in my blood and my health. Absolutely. So this is imperative that in order to be that next level version of yourself, for you to actually live the life that you desire and you deserve and not the one that is by default. This is the catch. This is the catch. The excavation process has to be daily. And it's just like building any muscle. It's just like building any muscle. The more consistent you are, the easier it gets. And then you have to add more resistance to make it stronger. But in making it stronger, in making it stronger, when things do come up for you that are really hard and wax you upside the head like a 2x4, you will have the strength, the power, the. The grit, the resilience, the tenacity to navigate it. The Enneagram really has helped me continuously show up to do that work. To allow more to be revealed, to not try to white knuckle my life or control every aspect of it, or to block my own blessings, I want that same gift for you. When we talk about raising our hand and saying, I want to be the best version of myself, for my family, for my friends, for my businesses, for the people I'm here to impact. If you don't have something in place that keeps your. The maintenance of your spiritual condition in check, it's going to be easy to derail you. Derail you. And honestly, when I was introduced to the enneagram 11 years ago in the throes of my recovery, I don't honestly know if the story looks the way like, like how it has gone. I don't know if I am as committed to the growth. The Enneagram provides you framework to stay on point. It also allows you to stay in faith. It's a huge deal. It's hard when life is kicking you in the teeth to remain faithful. It is. And I'm one of the most faithful people I know. And it is hard. It's hard when you're working your ass off and it doesn't feel like things are coming. It's hard to stay faithful. And it's easy to pick up the things that keep us in shame or keep us in anger or keep us in fear and anxiety. The Enneagram can be your roadmap out to keep you rooted in that faith, to keep you on track, or to help guide you back on track when you've gotten off course. It's why I'm so passionate about it. It's why I've built an entire business around it, helping thousands and thousands and thousands of people understand their framework so that they can be the ultimate leader in their life, personally and professionally. And I want the same for you. I felt like you needed this message today. If you want to dive a little deeper, you know that Enneagram tool is very, very powerful. But having your accurate information so you're working off the right framework is really, really important. And those online assessments are inaccurate 65 to 70% of the time. You have two options that I highly, highly, highly recommend. I mean, you can go on this journey and discover self discovery on your own and that's totally okay. It's going to take longer and you may not end up with the right information. And the Enneagram tool might not feel like it's working. Usually when that is happening, it's, you know, you don't have the right information or it's really easy to like just look at the information. But that doesn't equal transformation. So what I do recommend, if you at all, if this message is at all resonating with you and you understand and maybe you've poked around at this podcast, my content, other Enneagram people, and it intrigues you. I want you to know, like, the integration of this powerful tool can absolutely help you accelerate your transformation and growth and let you live that next level life that you really, really desire. It doesn't solve all your problems. It's just like any tool, the more you use it, the better it gets. And the more you use it, know how and when to use it the stronger it is. First step is getting the right information. It's why I created my assessment process and the blueprint that is customized for you and your type and subtype and wings and all of the things. It's powerful and it's accurate 95% of the time and I've tested it thousands of times and it I feel really, really good about providing you that information. It is very in depth, it is very complex, but it isn't complicated. You can go get your blueprint right now@traceyomalley.com the work with me section. Option number two is doing a 90 minute deep dive with me. I don't know how much longer I'm going to do them because my schedule is getting crazy with them with them and couples sessions and teams and groups and all of the things. But honestly, the fast pass to understanding your framework is having the guide show you the way. And that is what I am. I am absolutely an integration expert when it comes to the enneagram and even just 90 minutes with me going through that and showing you areas of your life where this applies and tactfully how to use it in your life personally and professionally can be the ultimate game changer in accelerating that kind of growth. That also is available@tracyomalley.com if you are a leader of a team, a family, an organization, a company and you want me to come in and help you understand everybody who's in the team and family and then what to do with that and how to be the the most effective, compassionate leader in your houses and in your businesses, reach out to me. Those are customized to you. I love, love doing that. I've been doing a lot of that lately. All this info is@tracey O' Malley.com the work with me section. You've all been on my heart lately. You know, we're, we're at the six or seven week point into the new year and maybe it hasn't gone the way that you wanted or maybe you see old patterns and habits that have kept you stuck coming back to the surface. I understand that daily reprieve is something powerful to remember, but having the right tools to navigate the grind of that kind of work is really, really important. I'd be honored to take you on that journey. As always, I am wishing you so much love and transformation and growth in your life so that you can be everything that you've desired and deserved. It's time to live by design and not default. I'll see you in a few days.
