Helping Others for Greater Self-Love (Join the Daily Practice!) Episode - 008

In this 8th episode of his daily self‑love series, Vivek George guides viewers through a short, 5‑minute kindness practice designed to boost self‑love by helping others. He opens with two supporting quotes—a Stoic saying from Seneca and a biblical proverb—linking generosity to personal well‑being. After a brief personal mood check‑in, he explains the exercise: pick a small act of kindness that can be completed in five minutes, such as writing a postcard, texting a friend, cooking, walking with someone, calling, assisting a stranger, or donating. He demonstrates the process by writing a postcard to a friend in Poland, using ChatGPT to translate the message into Polish, and narrates his timing and reflections. Throughout, he encourages viewers to pause, reflect on their feelings, and share their actions in the comments, emphasizing community building. The video ends with a checkout, a reminder to like, subscribe, and share, and a final affirmation of self‑love.

Hey guys, welcome back to another day of this self-love journey. My name is Vivek George, and I've been practicing self-love for a while, but doing it publicly for one day in one week now. It's been really, really fun. Sincerely fun to do it. Fun for me just because I get to— I get to practice some new technique every day. I'm always checking, okay, what can I do? What can I do to practice self-love in a different way? And it's been really fun to do it and grow and see how I'm feeling better and better about myself every day. So hopefully you're enjoying the journey. Hopefully you're doing these practices as well as I'm doing them. And yeah, let's get started. So usually as we do is we start with a quote or an idea to sort of give us a mantra or something to connect with as we do this practice. But more importantly to think about throughout our day. So, and usually the quote connects with the practice we're gonna do. So today we're gonna do something for others and that's gonna hopefully help us feel good too. And so I have two quotes. The first one is from the Greek Stoic Seneca. And he said, he who does good who does good also to himself. So yeah, this idea of helping others also helps us. So that's why today's self-love practice is about helping others and doing something nice for somebody else. And the second quote is from the Bible. It's from Proverbs 11:25, and it says, a generous person will prosper. 'Whenever—' sorry, 'Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.' Yeah, so once again, by helping somebody else, we will be full of joy and love and be feeling good about ourselves by just helping somebody else. Sometimes we think we have to just focus on our own needs, our own wishes to, to be successful, to grow, to be better, but we don't realize that by actually helping others, we too can benefit. So that's why today's self-love practice is about doing something small for somebody else. And before we do that practice and I get into more detail about it, just like to quickly do a quick check-in how I'm feeling, and all of you, give you a moment, all of you, to check in and how you're feeling. So I'll pause for a moment just for a quick reflection how you're feeling. Okay, I'm feeling good. I'm feeling good. I'm feeling pretty calm, peaceful. Uh, it's not as sunny as yesterday, but that's okay. It's all good. Uh, and, uh, I'm happy. I'm happy to come back and do this practice with all of you. Uh, so please share your check-ins and checkouts in the comments. That's awesome. It's nice to read them. And, um, yeah, and for today's practice of doing something nice for another person, we're gonna— I'm gonna keep a timer for 5 minutes, and you can think of something you want to do for somebody else, uh, that you could ideally do within 5 minutes. But if you need more time or wanted to spend more time doing something else for somebody else, that'd be awesome. So just— I'm gonna keep it to 5 minutes so we have, you know, some sort of contained time for this video. And it could be anything. For me, I'm gonna give— to give you guys some ideas, I'm writing a postcard. I love sending postcards to people. I always think that most of the time we get bills and junk mail in the mail, and then once— and so it's nice to get a postcard in the mail and to receive something nice from somebody else. It just feels good. And so, uh, and it feels good to like, you know, see that thing in the mail, they're like, whoa, what's this? And then get that nice surprise and and, you know, have somebody think, oh, you know, but they thought about me, or, you know, whoever thought about me. And so that's great. So today's postcard I found, I grabbed it just quickly. Oh wow, I don't even remember getting this postcard. It's the People's Republic of China. That's where it says it's from. I don't even remember this. So that's always sort of part of the fun of keeping postcards and mailing them. Sometimes you too forget. You have these things. So this is my postcard for today. Hopefully you can see it. Yeah, so I'm gonna, I'm gonna mail it to a friend, uh, in Poland. So we're gonna keep a timer. And other ideas you can be is you could text a friend that you, you want to— that maybe is feeling down. Um, you could, uh, cook something for a friend or a family member. You could, um, What could you do? You could go for a walk with somebody that you care about. You could call someone that you care about. You could find a stranger on the street that maybe could use a hand. You could donate to a cause that is important to you. Whatever it is, there's so many different options out there. Maybe take a few seconds to think about something that inspires you that you could do for somebody else. And if you can't, like I said, you can't fit it in all this time, into the time of this 5 minutes, that's okay. If you can't do it right now, that's also okay. But just try to think about it and try to make sure you do it later because that'll be a great practice for you today. It'll be a great way to practice self-love for yourself today. Awesome. Okay, I'm gonna hit the timer and then we'll wrap up. I wrote the letter in— it's to somebody in Polish, so I had to have ChatGPT translate it for me. So I'm looking at my computer. On how to write in Polish. It's not the easiest. I might not finish it, and because writing it in Polish, it's a little tricky for me. That's okay, I'll just keep doing it like afterwards. I'd rather take my time and write this correctly than fast. Plus my normal handwriting isn't so nice. I want to practice doing it more thoughtfully. Okay, we're at the almost a 2 and a half minute mark, so halfway through. How you guys doing over there? Polish has some letters that are a little tricky to write for me. It's kind of a weird E, like a hook. 1 minute 30 left. 30 seconds. Okay, that's it. Okay. Let's wrap up. Um, if you need more time, you can always pause the video. Um, but for me, I'm gonna wrap up right now and, um, let me just— and, uh, we can do our checkout. But, uh, yeah, love to hear what you guys did for your act of kindness for somebody else. Please leave a comment. Um, I, like I often say, what we put into something, put into this video or anything in life, it's what we get out. So if you really want to, you know, get the most out of these, these videos, I encourage you to, yeah, leave a comment about what you, what you, uh, you did, and maybe leave a comment on somebody else's, um, post so that, yeah, there's— we build up that community. Uh, okay, and let's do a quick checkout. How am I feeling? Yeah, I'm feeling good, feeling at peace, even more peaceful. I think sometimes writing, slowing down a little bit, makes me a bit more calm. So yeah, just generally feeling great. And all of you, how are you feeling? Awesome. Great, guys, thank you so much for joining me every single day in this journey of building, uh, greater self-love and self-belief and self-worth.
