Permission To Do Our Passion for Greater Self-Worth (The Self-Love Journey). Episode - 004

Carl Jung said "the most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely." This five-minute practice asks you to spend time on something you usually skip: the host chooses sewing a sock. After a timer, she reflects on the experience, including sewing it inside-out, then leads a breathing exercise.

Hey guys, welcome back to another day of the self-love journey. Uh, thank you for joining in this journey with me to cultivate greater self-worth, self-belief, and confidence. Uh, it's so nice to do this every day. Uh, it's just getting started and it feels good already for me to be practicing new techniques every single day around self-love. Um, and it's exciting to try to build up a community that's supporting me, I can support as well. So, uh, thank you. So, um, today's practice, uh, I'll get into in a few, few seconds, uh, but before we do, I always like to try to start off with some kind of reflection around self-love, um, something to think about, maybe it's like a mantra or whatever you want to make it for yourself. And today I have a quote, um, from, uh, the great, uh, psychiatrist, psychologist Carl Jung, he said the most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. And I think that's so true. It's like, I think we are— for so many of us, perhaps not everyone, but so for so many of us, especially the ones that are often drawn to these type of practices, we, we beat up— we're so used to beating ourselves up. It's sort of uncommon. It feels totally unfamiliar, foreign, and perhaps not right to love ourselves completely, to really appreciate ourselves and to know our self-worth. And so I think it is truly terrifying. So something to think about and something to perhaps push ourselves to work beyond to truly love ourselves. And, and that's why I want to do this practice every day. I'm gonna, I'm gonna try to show up every single day to be part of your journey, for you to be part of my journey, and I'm already feeling good, so that's great. So today's practice, we're gonna take 5 minutes to do something, give ourselves permission to do something that we don't often give ourselves permission to do because our lives are too busy and we don't ever have the space to do it. So I thought we give ourselves a that little gift of just 5 minutes. If you want more than 5 minutes, you can always pause the video. You can keep going after the video is done. But to keep the video a reasonable length, I thought I'd keep it for 5 minutes. So, and so for me, my practice is I'm gonna do a little bit of sewing and mending.
I got some holes in my socks.
I'm not the best at it, but I like to fix my things. I don't like to just buy things. So these socks have been sitting there for a little bit of time and need some repairing. So that'll be the practice for today. I'll have a little timer. We'll, we'll hit the timer and we'll— when it goes off, then we can wrap up the session and move on with our day if that's what you choose. Or if you want to keep going, that's also fine. And before we get started with that, I always like to do a quick check-in and we'll do a check-out after the practice. So how am I feeling today? I'm feeling, I'm feeling good. I didn't sleep well the night before, but last night I slept great, so I feel more refreshed. Um, I'm happy. I would say I'm happy to show up again to do this practice, so that's good. Um, yeah, so I think overall I'm feeling pretty good. So let's, let's get this started. Once again, the, the self-love practice is to give yourself 5 minutes permission to do something you haven't given yourself permission to do. Maybe it's cooking a dish, maybe it's journaling, maybe it's meditating, maybe it's going doing some exercise, maybe it's calling a friend or writing a letter or a postcard to somebody, maybe it's reading a book or watching a video or movie you haven't done. Whatever you haven't given yourself permission to do, but you really would like to or enjoy doing. Let's give ourselves a few minutes to enjoy that as a practice of, of really appreciating ourselves and loving ourselves.
Okay, timer is started.
I'm not such a great sewer, so don't make fun of me too much in the comments, but I do my best.
Got a little more than 3 and a half minutes.
I don't know if I can finish one hole by the time this timer goes off.
Maybe, maybe we'll extend it a minute or something if you guys don't mind. Oh no, no, no, no, I dropped my— oh, that's dangerous. Okay, hope your project is going well, whatever it is. Got 3 minutes.
Okay.
If, uh, 1 minute and 45 seconds, I don't even know if I'll have a knot in my needlehead by the time timer goes off, but let's try.
1 minute.
Hopefully you guys don't mind, maybe I'll just extend it by just 1 minute, um.
And, uh, I'm kind of enjoying this little bit of time, so we'll make it 6 minutes. We really deserve it.
Oops.
Okay, that was, that was 5 minutes. We'll just extend it by a minute.
Timer.
Maybe, you know, in the comments you can let me know if you guys like this and if you wanted to do it again but for a little bit longer time. And if so, then yeah, maybe we can do this again soon, but for maybe like 10 minutes or something. Curious to hear what all you guys are doing for your little bit of time for yourself. What projects or activities or things are important to you that you don't make time for? Okay, I think the timer's up, and actually maybe I'm pretty close. Yep, I did it, but I did it, and then I don't realize it, I did my sock. I should have reversed it, so I'm gonna have to undo it. Let's see how it—
I feel about it.
Okay, we did it.
We've made some time for ourselves doing something that we like doing or wanted to do but hadn't made time for. Unfortunately, mine didn't go as well as I'd like. So my checkout, I would say I'm happy that I did it for sure, but a little frustrated with myself as well for making a mistake. I was supposed to reverse the sock, do it inside out, but sometimes that's what happens. So maybe I'll fix it, uh, now that I've gotten started with all of you. So thanks for joining me. I'll give a moment for all of you to check out with yourself. Just think to yourself for a moment how you're feeling.
Okay, and maybe let's take a deep breath out together, in and out together.
So one deep breath in and out. Unfortunately, my camera died out on me at the very end of this recording, so I just wanted to record this one more time and just say thank you for joining me on today's self-love practice. Hopefully it was a fun one, uh, and hopefully you took a little bit of time to, to practice something that you are passionate about as well. Leave a comment below so I know what the different things that all of you were working on. And, um, if this video was helpful, please consider liking and subscribing to the channel. Really, um, me get the word out about the work I'm doing, but more importantly, it helps build a community around this self-love practices, which is why I started this series, which is I wanted to have others support me and be able to support others, um, because the more we put in, the more we get out, right? So, uh, yeah, anyway, have a great day, enjoy it, and don't forget to love yourself.
Take care.
