Podcast episode (My HPF Podcast #122, "Striving For Optimal Health") featuring host Al (HPF Coach) and guest Ken Lavander. They emphasize taking personal ownership of health through baseline testing (full blood count, hormone panels, DEXA), addressing nutrient deficiencies (vitamin D, magnesium, iron), and lifestyle changes (sleep, breathing, resistance exercise, hydration, reduce evening tech). Ken discusses long-term declines in male testosterone levels (historical average cited ~700 ng/dL in 1940 to current lower averages), cautions against indiscriminate high-dose hormone injections, and encourages measured, monitored interventions. The episode also critiques aspects of modern medicine and stresses proactive rather than reactive health management.

Welcome to another episode of Real Dad Movement podcast. The point and purpose of these episodes, as always, is to have a point and purpose towards helping you win the second half in life by building a path of becoming the best father, husband, man and member of your community that you can be. We do this with various ways of connecting. Life is connection. And as you hear these words spoken time and time again, know that the driving force of connection in life is energy. Which means that how you turn up as a father, as a husband, as a valued member of society will always start and end with how you turn up as a man within yourself.
First.
This is why it's my mission, my purpose, our mission, our purpose through Real Dad Movement to inspire, motivate, educate, and guide you into thoughts, feelings, actions, and a change in your belief systems to rise up, cut the shit from your life and live and leave a real legacy. When dads win, everyone wins. And when you win, I win. Let's get moving forward, mate. Right here, right now.
So here we are, another HPF episode with the man, the one and only. And I'm not. I'm not talking about myself. I'm talking about Mr. Ken Lavander, our energy coach. G', day, sir. How you going?
How are you? Well, Al? Or hopefully, best you can be.
Best I can be, mate? Best I can be. Like I said before, Ken, my eyes are shattered, man. I've had five nights in a row of some chaotic stuff with the kids. Generally two out of three are sick. And that's, you know, it's a part of life that I'm moving through at the moment where I don't wish it away. But I'll certainly enjoy the different phases and facets of fatherhood as they become older and more independent, that's for sure. But now, going along. All right, mate. Given the circumstances, we're growing in every area, applying good energy in every area, and it's great, mate. We talk about family, self and service. You can have all three, Ken, but it's hard. Sometimes you get beaten up a bit, sometimes your back's against the wall. But I guess for me, it's not about just continually pounding with force or velocity or intensity. It's just being smart, which is what this episode's about for you guys joining us, really thriving in life. And this episode is called Striving for Optimal Health, where we're going to talk about disease, male testosterone, how that's been obliterated, I guess, in my opinion, over the last three to five decades. Nutrients, vitamins, doctors, how they are and can and should serve you, not the other way around. And you taking control and liberating yourself in what you can do with your own body, physically, mentally and as an organism. But I'd love to. This is one that I'm excited for, Ken. I really am. Regardless of the lack of sleep, I want this episode to go ahead 100%, which is why we're here, mate. I'm excited because some of the stuff you've touched on with me on a personal level, with hormones, my testosterone, nurturing that without getting a jab and becoming Mr. Olympia like the rest of them. And it's pretty important to look after ourselves as an organism. Even things with microbiome, gut health, which is pretty awesome, we could dive into that too. But, mate, talk to us. You know, disease striving for optimal health. Where do we start in breaking this all down, getting an understanding and then rebuilding so our dad's listening can really understand the importance of this and vitality as a whole. Yeah.
So it's really important, like, when you look at kind of anything at all that you're dealing, whether it be physical, emotional or chemical, you need some kind of marker to start with. You need an underlying foundation. You need to know what your foundation is. So when it comes to me, and I spend a lot of time assessing people one on one, when it comes to my expertise is in biomechanical assessments. And I look at the foundation of what's going on with people's feet, with their knees, with their hips, with their lower back, mid back and shoulders and things like that. So looking at how someone moves and the fluidity of the movement or the rigidity of the movement is something that I look at with an expert eye and then start to kind of break down section by section. Now, what I've had to do, because I'm not a doctor and I don't claim to be a doctor, but what I've discovered over Maybe the last 10 years is that men and women and pretty much everyone, their health or their underlying hormonal profiles are very, very low. And at the end of the day, the traditional medicine definition for health is the absence of disease. And what we're trying to understand is that really disease starts from being nutrient deficient. And really we don't know what's optimal when it comes to what nutrients we really do need. And so what is the test to kind of measure what we've got too much of, what we haven't got enough of. And really, at the end of the day, there's multiple tests with Technology and how we've evolved over the last, I'd say, two decades, if anything. And there's still a lot of kind of stones to be unturned and will forever evolve when it comes to different testing. But the main thing for me is really the minimum that people should be getting when it comes to looking at hormone profiles is your blood test. Every minimum, like around, say, 12 months. But really you can kind of dive in a little bit closer. When people are very deficient or something's affecting their physiology, whether they're exercising, they're finding that they're lethargic morning, lunchtime, mid afternoon, and they can't work out what's going on. Is it the diet that they're changing? Is it the lack of exercise? Is it the lack of sleep? Well, really, the way we look at things and what our kind of first point of call is, is to go and get a full blood count from your doctor. And then once you've got that full blood count, then you can start to look at each and every individual deficiency that you might have. And so what stands out really, really well is your vitamin and mineral deficiency. Then you can start looking at your testosterone and so many things like that, your vitamin D, your cholesterol levels and things like that. So there's a lot of things in there that you can really start to kind of look at and talk to your doctor. And then if you find that you've got some kind of underlying issue there, you'll find that then you need to start doing your research yourself. If your doctor can't give you the explanation with what you need to start doing to optimize your vitamin mineral deficiency, if that's what it is. Well, then you really need to kind of start to take your own health into your own hands and then start to liaise and communicate with another allied health professional.
Yeah, that's an important thing for me. That point you touch on then, Ken, because not even that peeling it back, one more, peeling the onion layer back. What about the doctor's interpretation? Like, that's why it's important to make sure that your GP or whoever, you have in confidence as your doctor actually fucking gets it. Because when I got my bloods done for you, not longer old mate was telling me and I really didn't want to see him, but my doctor was sick so I had to see another bloke and he was horseshit, man. Like, he's saying, I know everything's within normal range, blah, blah. I'm like, yeah, that's your standards. What Are my standards, you know, what does this mean? You say this is normal. It's right borderline below the normal range. And that range might not be, you know, if there's a range between, as any measurement, 200 to 600 units, and I'm measuring it 220, and tell me it's normal, is that really fucking normal? Yeah, that's the hard part. Like, what are your thoughts on that, Ken? Like, actually getting the interpretation right as well from these blokes for optimism.
And that's the thing. Unless really the allied health professional you're working with or talking to or the doctor. The thing is they really, in all honesty, don't really know kind of how effective or how efficient your metabolism. We all have different lifestyles. If you're an athlete, obviously your body's going to utilize vitamins and minerals much more efficiently than someone who's maybe 10, 15 kilos overweight. So the larger the person from lean body mass to people that are carrying excess fat and whatever else, male, female, someone that's say, a 12 or a 15% body fat body composition, and they're weighing in at 80 kilos compared to someone that maybe weighs 100 kilos, that's 20% body fat. Like their body absorbs nutrients and vitamins, like, you know, all of those at a different rate. If you're exercising, you're obviously going to utilize more vitamins, minerals. And so at the end of the day, what happens is, I think it was back in 1968, is when they worked out what the RDAs are and we talk about different mineral deficiencies. The, the problem is that really looking at an RDA like a recommended daily allowance is old school. And I get it for someone who's quite sedentary, that sits on their ass and doesn't do a lot of work or doesn't exercise, or they might work from 8 to 6 of a nighttime and whatever else, but if they're at a desk job, their body's not going to utilize as many vitamins or minerals compared to someone like say Uri, for instance, that's very active, that might exercise two, three, four, four or five times a week at different intensities, but also have a very busy lifestyle that are kind of being involved, as in with two or three children in the family, kind of, you know, staying physically active. So you can't tell me it's a bit like, you know, getting a Formula one racing car that's going to race around the track at 250, 300 kilometers an hour for, say, a three hour event. It's going to utilize so much more fuel than you jumping in your car driving like 10 or 15ks and back and forth like you're going to use maybe, you know, 100 liters of fuel if you're in the Formula One racing car, or maybe a thousand litres of fuel compared to someone who's just driving around the block or backwards and forwards, that might only use 10 litres of fuel. So that's just kind of given it a basic example, as in with what my body's going to use, as in your macros being your fats, your carbs and your protein. But then when it comes to the vitamin and mineral, actually the cement between the bricks, the mortar that holds up the structures being our body, like people, really, you can't have a 15 minute or half an hour discussion with any doctor or any naturopath or anyone like that and think that they're going to get it right the first time. This is really about taking control, having a really long hard discussion. And maybe every three months, once you get some kind of protocol in place, then you will implement your recommended daily allowances and then we'll start to tap into, okay, what's being affected by your own personal bio individuality. Is it your sleep that's the problem now if your sleep's the problem, can we start to implement a bit of meditation? Can we start to turn off electrical devices which will affect your hormone profile? Can we start to do a little bit of breathing techniques? Can we start to implement magnesium as a, magnesium like a muscle relaxant before you go to sleep, can you, can you increase your hydration before you go to sleep? And then once we talk about hydration, then we go into a whole new world because then. Are you brushing your teeth with what toothpaste? Is it fluoride? Is it contaminant? All the contaminants and all the other stuff that's going to affect your hormone profile so you can get right into the nitty gritty. Or let's just really get into the simple, most basic things that are very limited, minimal to no cost, that we can change your hormone profile. And then let's start to measure the changes. Let's start to measure and see what we can do. Not over a day, not over a week, but let's look over maybe four weeks, six weeks, three months, and let's start to make the small minor changes to be able to then monitor and progress so we can see what's working and what's not working. In reality, what I'm looking at is when I'm working with people, if there's something severe, like in your case, you've had very little sleep over the last three to five days. So what's the biggest thing that I can make or change for you, Al? Is it a little bit of breathing? Can I back off your exercise, the intensity of your exercise? Absolutely. Let's start doing maybe because you've had no sleep, let's not look at throwing you into a gym and start doing a full weightlifting workout. Let's, you know what, maybe for the next week, because you've had little sleep, let's spend like two or three days on doing a little bit of stretching and breathing techniques. And then we reintroduce a little bit more weight training next week so that your cortisol levels stay low. Let's not throw your hormone profile completely out of whack. Let's load you up on, say, some vitamin D. Let's give you some more magnesium as a muscle relaxant to help you sleeping. Let's look at your hydration, let's fine tune your nutrition and let's look at those things without having to go into the scientific side of things and all this hard detail. And then let's look at your blood work maybe in six to 12 weeks time and let's see what the changes are and let's see if we're kind of heading in the right direction.
This sort of approach is phenomenal, mate. That's why I obviously love having you as my energy coach and for the team that we have on the inside with our platinum crew. I just want you guys listening to this just to stop for a second and really just sit back and have a big think about what, what Ken's just explained there. You know, when we're looking at compound interest, you'll accumulate savings in your bank account. Super will accumulate. Or you might be invested in stocks or other things, all these small percentages, all these 1% things, you know, even the analogy of get 1% better every day, that leads to a 37x over 12 months, all that sort of shit. But really understand the value as an organism and the role that can play in your life in creating positive changes, moving away from disease, having optimal health and striving for that optimal health, which really comes. And we'll talk about testosterone. A second comes down to how you operate. And this is the, this is the frustrating part, Ken. The Human Genome project was a fucking flop. We've only got a few thousand more genes than different types of flies and worms. So what people don't understand is they think that genetics is something that. That's it, I'm set in stone. It's the printer, it's the ink, it's the paper, it's everything. It's not. We might all have different model printers, but literally through the consciousness and perceptions of your cells to what you expose them to, through your chemical health as well as your emotional health, things that Ken's touching on the border, that the glue that holds the bricks together, all these different things over a compound interest over years, and having a proper finger on the pulse, whether it's your doctor, whether it's obviously someone like Ken, someone who knows their shit and what they're talking about, what you can then do is actually start to send different orders and different run sheets, whether it's increasing and having more optimal health in your blood and how that operates and works in your cellular structure to your genetic print. So that's going to pump off some different and higher quality sheets of paper. This is what people don't understand. Bruce Lipton's a great guy. He sort of spearhead stem cells and that sort of stuff. Ken. But this is what people don't realize, mate. They think that they're going to build little, make little inroads to investing in their careers, investing in their savings, in other parts, in their children. Yet they forget the most vital part to make those little compound interest investments in. First, having the knowledge of where they're deficient, secondly, having the application on how to improve those is actually in themselves as a whole and complete organism. You know what I mean? I guess what have you seen, Ken, as a detriment of that? Not just lacking the awareness and knowledge, but ultimately, when we're talking even genetics all the way through to testosterone, what's the decline and I guess the pitfalls of those declines that we've seen over the last few decades, mate, especially with testosterone in males.
One of the big things is that people, what I've found and people that I deal with is very reactive rather than proactive with what they do with their health. And this is where I find the major problem is it's incredible. I've worked with pretty much every different type or every different modality when it comes to health. And it's great to know a little bit about a lot of things rather than try and focus on just one thing so that you know what's at your fingertips or you know, what you can call upon, what lever to pull to be able to get the best outcome for yourself. And the people around you that you love and you care most about. In 1940, the typical male testosterone levels was around 700. Like the typical male, as in what you and I, if we're around in 1940, I'm sure we're around in 2040 and maybe 3040, the way we're going, the way technology's going. But in 1940, the average male, typical male, their testosterone levels, which is measured in nanograms per deciliter, was around 700. Okay, but in reality there's quite a large set of goalposts here. So it's varied from say 700 to 1200. So there's a big kind of lever that you can kind of pull. Is it that you're at 1200 or mine's at 700. Again, you may be a bigger person than I or you may kind of be more active than I age. Gender specificity. With whatever we do, kind of with our exercise, with what we do on a day to day basis for work and everything else, then when we kind of look and we start to look in from 1940 to 1960 to 1980 to then the 2000, then the 2020 where we're at now, like in reality, what happens is because we're becoming a sicker nation, a global, like globally, what happens is, is as we see what the average declines from 700 to 600 to 500 to 400 to 300, we look at that and what happens is that I suppose the World Health Organization or the different governing bodies will go, they'll meet with the medical kind of teams that are kind of leading kind of the different countries or whatever it is, and they'll start to reduce it. But in reality what happens is that with me, even though I'm very physically active, my nutrition's great, I do a lot of things, but maybe there's some underlying mechanisms in my body that's not utilizing or increasing my testosterone because I'm not sleeping well or whatever it is, whatever else is, it's maybe affecting my testosterone levels to give me the right vital amounts of energy and, etc, etc, and the sleep and everything else that goes on. What's happened is 1940 was 700, then 1960 it goes down to 600 or 580, then 1980 it drops down to the average kind of male that's over the age of say 35 to 40. You're looking at, then it drops down to say anywhere between say 400 to 500. And then when you get into 2000, it's dropping down to 300 or thereabouts to 400 then. Now, what's deemed appropriate and what's deemed safe now is between like say 260 is and the guidepost or the goalpost now between 260 and say 500. But I want to share a kind of personal experience with you. Ok? My energy levels and everything else, my sleep and everything else just runs, I believe at optimal level. But really is it at optimal level. So the only way I can find out whether I am optimizing my sleep, I am optimizing my training and everything else I do well, I need to go and get a blood test. So what I've done, and this is kind of something that I've done over the last few years, I've gone in and where you'll find, what doctor do you need to go and see? You won't generally get this from your GP because you have to go to a specialist doctor to be able to find out what your testosterone levels are, whether you're over, you're under and your GP just can't prescribe you testosterone if you're at a very, very low level because your libido's down, your, you know, maybe you've lost major amounts of sleep, you're losing muscle, you're not exercising and all these contributing factors which you don't really know kind of what the causes of this and why your energy level is so low. So what I started to do was I started to dig in and started to search kind of really what are the optimal levels. And at the end of the day, we really don't know what the optimal levels are because when I had mine tested, my testosterone levels, even though I don't have an issue, from what I understand how my body feels, my levels are around about 230 to 240, my free testosterone levels. And I'm thinking, hang on a minute, if I go and get my blood tests and I'm looking at those levels, well, hey, listen, my testosterone levels at a very, very low level. But in reality they should be hovering around maybe 400 to 500. But hey, listen, if I was alive in 1940, they should be around 700. And so I go, okay, I go to the anti aging doctor, the specialist doctor, and she says to me, okay, Ken, listen, we're going to put you on this, this and this and we're going to give you testosterone injections and what we're going to do, because my level showed at 240, I'm just going in there to kind of find out whether I need testosterone injections to lift my levels from 240. Even though I didn't have any symptoms, I didn't have any problems. Do I need to take it from 240 to 500 or 240 to 400 or 240 to 300? Because my testosterone levels are not where they should be yet. I don't have any symptoms. So what she's saying to me, she's saying, listen, Ken, what we'll do is we'll give you an injection of 1200 milligrams or nanograms per deciliter, which will take my current testosterone levels from literally 240 to literally 1440. Now, from my understanding, I've just said to this lady who's a specialist in testosterone optimization, or really is she a specialist in testosterone optimization, if you give me an injection of 1200, do you think me going from 240 all of a sudden to 1440 will absolutely throw me into the Amazon river and just kind of throw every biological process out of whack? Why wouldn't you give me maybe 100 nanograms per deciliter and take me from 240 to 340 kind of measure and see what the changes are and then analyze that and then take me maybe a week later, give me another hundred and take me from now 340 to 440 and then see what's going on. And then the week later give me another hundred from 440 to 540 and see how my body reacts to that. Well, no, no, she didn't want to do that. She just wanted to throw me with a 1200mg and come back in three months. Now we're talking about a specialist here, we're not talking about a GP who is incredible at what they do and then they send you onto a specialist. Now I've got this specialist doctor that wants to give me an injection here. Now, I'm going to give you a little tip.
Yeah.
On this. If I start grabbing anyone that I train an 80 year old lady who I trained that's beaten cancer three, who's just had major back surgery and all of a sudden she's basically touching her toes and I'm getting her back into exercising and doing very little, that's like throwing her into a hundred kilo deadlift and she's still in a sling because she just had major back surgery last week and expecting a great result from it. Like, how stupid are some people when in reality, if they don't really think about what they're doing and don't take their own life or their own health into their own hands. Think of the consequences that may happen to me. If all of a sudden I've let this specialist doctor give me this 1200 milligrams shot of testosterone, what do you think is going to happen to me? So this is. Even when you're dealing with specialists, you've really got to understand and you've got to take things like really, you got to think about what you're doing. So when we talk about anything about your own health, it still ceases to amaze me that when we're dealing with other professionals in a situation where we are now, especially in this global pandemic, you really have to start thinking about whether you're actually dealing with the right people. You know, like, I get so frustrated when time and time again, not on a daily basis, but generally weekly, monthly basis when I'm dealing with other allied health professionals and they don't understand still to this day with the current situation, that still people just cannot take control and start to think about the realistic things, how they can, what they can do without having to implement all these crazy things within their life and expect change, and expect change for the good of their own health. Like, I'm kind of rambling on a little bit here, Al, but as you can tell, I get a little bit agitated and frustrated when again, like, we're dealing with, you know, this coronavirus and everything else, and yet people are just willing to throw these vaccinations into their system. There's no proven research, it's still in trial and error stage and still really don't understand if you've got some underlying situation, some underlying nutrient deficiency in your body and you throw some kind of chemical in a mass situation like, mate, I'll be honest with you, I don't give a fuck about what these doctors are saying about this. Covid, let's just hit you with an injection. And if you've got underlying issues, underlying nutrient deficiencies like metabolic issues, you've got all these things and you shove some kind of chemical agent into your body and you can't monitor that. Listen, go and get the vaccination, but before you do, go and get your full blood count done, go and deal with a specialist and monitor what happens over the next three months, six months, nine months, 12 months. And you know what? If you're not willing to take your own health into your own hands and make some vital changes, as in get some weight off, increase your nutrition content, like Supplementation, increase the food that you're eating, increase your mental health, start taking control of your own health and then come to me and then tell me why you've had some kind of, you know, massive injection into your body and then prove to me why, you know, you're willing to take on these things. Like if you're willing to take on an injection that they have no real data research, well, then, you know what, go and slap steroids into your body that can massively reduce your weight, that's going to increase your body competition composition and make massive changes in the next three months, six months. You know what, they've got more research around steroids and everything else. And yet you're not willing or you're willing to kind of throw the blame game on these Olympic athletes that are drug doping everything else, but you're not willing to comment when someone's willing to throw some kind of drug into your system that really has no proof about. Anyway, mate, I've got a. Yeah, I.
Love fiery Ken, you know.
Yeah, it really, really ceases to amaz.
I love it when you fire up Ken. It's awesome, mate. And look, I agree. And I've got friends who've gone and had the vaccine and make good for them. Everyone can control whatever they control. Obviously. I've said before, I'm definitely not having it. I'm focusing on my health and it's something that I purely don't trust. Whether you think it's a people place or thing, it is exactly what you said. It's something where you're not identifying all the levels of, of ownership you can take in your own life first. And that's a decision everyone needs to make for themselves. I've guided my parents away from it and those I love and care about purely for the reasons that people like you and me are very experienced and skilled with those that we know about as well in their current circumstances. We go, hey, let's do this, this, this and this and see what happens. Like you spoke about, get good vitamin D, get great sunlight, looking after yourself with your food. You know, like when people, when people shot the thing that gets me, Ken. And it's, it's very interesting not to go off topic. This is part of the topic, striving for optimal health. The thing that gets me is when people are sticklers for certain rules and not for others. Don't fucking push that shit onto me and then become a fucking hypocrite by saying, no, no, these are my standards. Yours aren't good, but mine Are that to me is bullshit, especially with a lot of these. I do feel for people who are getting pressured for jobs, livelihood and travel as well. That's disappointing, especially when it's driven through the narrative of fear with mainstream media. But again, people can do what they want, take ownership over it. But does it have to be the answer? And what you said is a great example with the specialists of optimal testosterone health. It's like, that's fucking crazy to try and think that you can just administer something like that at that dosage without actually building the steps. Like everyone needs to become an alchemist of their own body cam with tweaks and adjustments. Like you said, which little lever do I pull? And what is a great dose? I mean, there are great therapeutic doses where through your guidance and through what I've done now, mate, I take 10 to 15,000 IUs a day of vitamin D. It says to take one, that's going to do fuck all for me, mate. But having the amount that I can have on a therapeutic dose because of my systems and building up to that threshold, feeling, getting a feel for it, things like you spoke about, where do you draw the line of owning your own life first? Through eating food from heavy metals, plastics, the type of water that you drink, the type of toothpaste that you have. And this isn't tinfoil hat. Sharing stuff here like this is real. People don't understand when you're constantly eating products, not food, when you're eating products, when you're not sourcing proper food, when your protein is low, when your vitamin D is in there, when you don't have vitamin C, when you're eating a general range of good, good vegetables, not fucking everything you don't have. You don't have to have, you know, detox smoothies every day. Your ass will explode. Doing it the right way, it's huge, the changes. But people just ignore that, mate, and they're going for the silver bullet. Whether it is something with what's happening in the world lately, you know, my in laws have had it and they're frustrated. They're like, why can't the world just go back to normal? I'm like, you're fucking kidding. You think because you take a jab that the world, you're still under the same restrictions as everyone else, yet you've got something irreversible, right?
That's the thing is, the thing is like, you know, two or three years ago, the doctors and everyone else, they're talking about giving out all the antibiotics and everything else and that rips all the good gut flora and fauna out, like out of your GI tract and everything else. And so then your body becomes like basically weaker, your immune system and everything else. And what's amazing is all of a sudden the doctors are talking about if we keep handing out these antibiotics to people, well then there's going to be a superbug. So really is this the superbug that really is like the influenza. So like as we get over this, is there going to be another one? Absolutely. And so are we going to shut the whole world down again? And we're going to shut it down again and again and again. And the thing is, maybe this, maybe, I don't know, I don't know, maybe I'm going out a long shot. Maybe this is kind of what, you know, there's some stuff going on out there where the sun, you know, the population's getting too large and we have to cull the population. Maybe this is what it is. But at the end of the day, only the strong are going to survive. Look at the medication that is given out from antidepressants to, you name it, like, it's just almost like on taps. Like, tell me, like the thing is the first question I ask people, how often do you visit your doctor, what medication you're taking? Here's one for you, here's a really good one. This is pretty tough with me and I've maybe mentioned a little bit of this about before. So I talked to my mum, she's 76 years old, she lives in Mildura. You know, they go into lockdown. Mildura's maybe had no cases of coronavirus for the last God knows how long. Or they've had one or two cases in, in six or 12 or 18 months, yet they lock them all down, keep them. What about their mental health? So I'm talking to my mom, who's been on medication a whole year. So I say to my mom and I talk to her a couple of times a week, I go, listen, you know what, Just for number's sake, mum, how much medication are you on? And she said she's taking eight different medications at the moment because her poor health and whatever else, she was a smoker and whatnot. And I said, okay, that's interesting. Okay, so mum, tell me what medication, Tell me what you're taking the eight for. And she says, I don't really know. I said, you're kidding me. Like you're taking eight medications? Why are you taking the eight medications? She said, well, I know one is a nasal spray. I've got two nasal sprays and I've got six other medications. What purpose are you taking these? Are you taking one or two for blood thinners, which she's been on, but is she taking the other six because of the side effects from the first two that she desperately needs? Like, what the deal is, like, if all of a sudden, like my idea, I get it, that some people need to take medication and I don't ever take that away from them. No doubt. But what are the side effects? Is there an end date to be taking these medications? Like, I just don't understand that. Like, I look after a lady who's a psychologist and she said, right now, within all everything that's going on, people, their mental health is like fivefold worse now since the lockdown and everything else. Like, how many people have died in Australia in the last. Since this pandemic's gone, how many people have been hospitalized? I get it. They're gonna throw the numbers around like it's crazy. It's all over the place. Yet people stress. So people stress, like you were saying, Al, like you take anywhere from 10 to 15,000 vitamin D, IU a day. Like, if I'm outdoors and I'm training four days a week and I'm getting a couple of hours of sunlight, I'm only taking in 5000iu, like a vitamin D when I'm indoors, I'm going to double that and triple that. On the other maybe three days a week, I'll take 10 to 15,000 IU. And I know my body feels great with that. But you know what? In three months time, I'll get my bloods done again and I'll have a look at what my body's doing and then I'll modify. We should be eating seasonal food. It's just common sense for people now to start taking control of their own health and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. Look after number one and your family and the people around you and then start sorting that shit out. Otherwise. Exactly what you were saying before. Also, don't sit there and give an opinion if you're not going to sort out your own shit first. Don't try and push your own beliefs and everything else onto anyone else unless you're sorting your shit out. Yeah, one big saying. And I've always had people that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Don't talk shit to me. If you don't have your own health in order, don't do it, because otherwise I'm not going to be Very comfortable in you trying to tell me what to do about your health when you're not sorting your own shit out.
Yeah, this is the problem, mate, when people have blinkers on and they're living in a world of no control. So when you don't control yourself internally, Ken, you're living in a world of chaos, which you then have an overreaching arm to try and control things you shouldn't. People, places and things. That's very volatile, mate, because you're left completely vulnerable. You have no stability, you have no security. And what validates and justifies you and your position in the world is something that you will never have control or influence over, because it's larger than you. It's external influence and the external environment that really can change, as we've seen with the changing landscapes at any time. And that's my challenge, mate, when people just zoom out a little bit. And, yeah, I think there's been maybe, you know, there was, up until recently, there was one COVID death in 10 months. Yet over 300 have died from the vaccine. So, look, when it comes to numbers, people can form whatever they want with beliefs. And that's mainstream media data too, by the way. That's not something that I got from a bloke on ham radio with a tinfoil hat. But when you're looking at this stuff again, people can do what they want, but they shouldn't throw stones in a glass house. If you haven't organized your own health and wellbeing from the inside out, there are different risks with all facets of life. This is just another one. So the whole self with, like you said, a population thing, it is purely the whole area around, from wherever we've evolved from strongest. Surviving, surviving, adapting, evolving, surviving, adapting, evolving. Is that something that's going to come through a quick fix in putting something that hasn't been developed over many, many years in your arm? Or is it going to come from, like you said, monitoring your bloods, monitoring your health, nutrition, your environment, your mental state, your hydration. They all play. They all play a massive role, Ken. And what it actually does is, well, it's very simple. It empowers you, it puts you back in the driver's seat again instead of looking for something external. Like you said, it's not just this bloody jab, it's antibiotics. There's lots of different things. And yes, there are people who need medicines. There's a medical desire and need in this world for certain specific things. But when we're talking about guys like yourself and I unless there are these pre existing conditions, what are we actually doing to invest in our own health first so we can strive for optimal health and then what are we not doing, Ken, that actually does lead to disease? That's the challenging part. People think, oh, it's just my genetics is this that. And that's like, well maybe, maybe not. Maybe there's something you've done for fucking 20 years. Which eventually, hey, the body's had enough, it's actually broken down now. Here's your reward.
That's the proactive thing. That's when people talk to me about they're going to see their doctor when they're sick. Well, you know what, sick as in what their mental health like. I'd hate to imagine what the statistics are right now within mental health would be just phenomenal. So like you weigh up the numbers. Are people like, let's look at what's happening now in one year, in five years, in 10 years, what are the repercussions of that? So people are going, people are very, very reactive rather than proactive. I've been proactive since I was 20 years old, since I was 12 years old when my dad passed away. I've been very, very proactive. And that's the problem. People live in lifestyles that are so comfortable, they get into their little rut, their routines, hey listen, I like my routines, but my routine is about staying healthy, fit and well and trying to infect or influence every person that I come in contact with. The thing is, when you think about it in reality, you've really got to got to think about what you're doing on a day to day basis and are you striving for a better health, a better outcome or not? The thing is, when we look at people's testosterone levels and we get your blood count and we look at symptoms of low testosterone and we look at how we can make the simple changes to increase your vitality, your energy levels, your just everyday day to day basis. What do we need to do to make the changes? We need to look at the absolute foundation. The same as when we build a house. If we're looking at building a house like you can go into Hollywood Boulevard and I'm sure every house is worth $10 million, but you can have that one house that sticks out. Yeah, a bit like the purple cow syndrome. You can have, you know, a thousand sheep, but there's one purple sheep, all of them are white and there's one purple. The only thing you remember is about that purple sheep that's in the middle of the paddock. But going back to Hollywood Boulevard, you've got a 50 million dollar house and everything else is worth maybe $10 million. But that $50 million house is built on quicksand. Yeah, it's not worth shit. So let's look at getting the foundations right or at least chipping away at one tile at a time when it comes to your own health. So, like, just to kind of mention a few symptoms about, like if you've got low testosterone, like if you go in and get a full blood count now and you're a male, like they show that deficiency of testosterone, your total Testosterone is between 160 to 300 nanograms per deciliter. And just kind of when you think about that, you go, hang on a minute, I had my test and it was 240 grams. But in reality, is 240 grams too low for me when I should be really around a 5 or 6 or 700 nanograms per deciliter? So just some of the symptoms of low testosterone when you do your full testosterone blood count. And again, think about this. For instance, mine was at 240, but the symptoms are delayed puberty as a young child. Yeah. Or as a young male. Erectile dysfunction, poor sperm count, higher risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, loss of sex drive fatigue, hair loss, sleep problems, decreased muscle mass and brittle bones, depression, irritability, memory loss. Now let's just jump into this a little. I'm at 240. Maybe my wife might question about my hair loss, but hey, listen, it hasn't moved in the last few years. But listen, I can promise you now I'm going to get into this. I don't have any erectile dysfunction whatsoever. I wake up flying the flag every morning, mate, I can promise you now there's not a problem with my sperm count. High risk of obesity, far from it. Cardiovascular disease, beyond. Like my doctor, when I went and see my doctor, yeah, he said, ken, there's no test we can give you. He said, you're as fit as any human I know. Yeah, he said, there's no test we can give you hypertension. Maybe when we're talking about all the shit that people don't want to listen to. But then I go and do my breathing techniques. Loss of sex drive. Not on your life. Yeah, listen, you know, I fly the flag three, four, five, six times a day. Even then I have to go, maybe hit it with a cold spoon. Like, come on, seriously, I can go and get an ice bath. Like, seriously, like, decrease in Muscle mass and brittle bones beyond. Like shit, you tell me. Depression, irritability. Again, like memory loss. Maybe a bit of memory loss. When my wife wants me to do the dishes after I've had a big day at work, that's the only memory loss I've got. But mate, that's the thing. How do you know whether you're performing at optimal level or not? Me at 240, like, to me, I believe I'm really performing at optimal level. But hey, listen, why don't I go and get 200 or what can I do to increase my testosterone levels? Sleep better. There's nothing wrong with my sleep. Exercise. I'm exercising. Maybe I'm over exercising. Like, what is it? Do a little bit of meditation. That can increase your testosterone level. Look at the foods that we eat. Look at the absorption. Like, I don't have an issue. But unfortunately, when other people do have issues and they come to me or they come to us at the High Performance Fathers, then we can start to analyze what's going on.
What do we do?
We go and get them to get a blood count? Yeah, we go and get them to get a full blood count. What else do we do? We go and get them to get a DEXA scan. Let's have a look at kind of toxicity. If they're 3, 5, 10, 15, 25, 30 kilos overweight, that's where the toxicity is within the adipose tissue. This is where it is the subcutaneous fat, like the toxins. Everything else, like your hormone profile is thrown completely out of whack because of the toxicity within those fat cells. So these are the things that we need to consider about changing your lifestyle so that you can optimize your testosterone level. But for now, let's look at the supplementation that we can add as a little bonus, as in your vitamin D, your magnesium and your iron are your three main underlying things that you can contribute to a male's kind of hormone profile. Right now you can implement literally straight away. And I can promise you it's going to start changing. Because who's going to go outside and SunBathe naked for 2 or 3 hours to increase your D3 levels every day for the next 7 days, 14 days, whatever it is, you know what I'm saying? Who's going to go in and go and eat maybe 2 kilos of nuts to get your magnesium out of those nuts, and then eat, you know, two kilos of, say, spinach and stuff like that to increase your magnesium levels, or eat 16 bananas a day to Increase your potassium and your magnesium. All of these things now are really about if you want to perform at high levels or you want to be able to get the best out of life.
Yeah.
Do all these things about trying to improve on your sleep, improve on your exercise three, four times a week. Make sure there's a bit of resistance in there. Improve on getting rid of all the technology an hour before you go to sleep. Do a little bit of breathing techniques, stay well hydrated. These little things are so simple to implement in your life that can change and have dramatic changes within your personal life and to optimize your own health. It's just amazing how people don't even want to implement these simple things in life and still expect change. It's amazing. Still ceases to amaze me.
It's what people get drawn to, distracted by, or focused on. It's why I'm not a fan of television. It's why I'm not a fan of a lot of different things that, as an overarching description, sedate or distract people. And you want to drink alcohol or if you want to watch a movie every night, awesome. But it's not that I don't have a television in their house. I wouldn't if I had a call. But obviously we've got a family and they get some value out of it. And yeah, look, I don't drink alcohol because as poor as an excuse as it sounds to not toxify, intoxicate my body, I don't have or make any time to do it and doesn't serve me, Ken. But this is the big thing. It's been an awesome episode, too. And look, we respect. I'll always respect someone's position as long as it's not being forced, undermined. And it's not something that's driven from fear. If it's driven from fear, I'm sorry, I can't respect that. I can't connect or align with that. I just can't. And some of the topics we've spoken about today. Yeah, people might find a few of them sensitive, and that's cool. Have whatever beliefs you want. But what we're looking at, guys, here, is the overruling principle of taking ownership and control of what you can control. Sometimes you've got to zoom out to zoom in the. And the biggest problems that you'll ever face in life, Cam, which you just touched on then, is more often than not actually met with little small solutions. It's always the way you think. Your life's fucking in turmoil, turned upside Down. No, just a couple little tweaks here. Being your own alchemist, pulling a few certain levers, making a few tweaks and changes makes all the difference. You've got a massive problem. You don't actually need a massive solution. You just need the small steps to initiate change and start nourishing yourself as a human, as an organism, and someone who really. It starts and ends with. It always does. Ken, your physical and mental health abilities, what you can do, starts and ends with you. And somewhere in the middle of that is your investment in certain environments and what you choose to allow, what you choose to accept and whatnot, which is hard. This is a hard time at the moment for a lot of people. And mate, you're right. Like, I couldn't imagine, mate, not even the suicide numbers in the last two years. But ultimately the chronic effect of what domestic violence and mental health is going to be. People think now's tough. You wait till 2025, 2028, 2031, when this becomes a generational dip and fall in people's mental wellbeing, their belief systems. Like, I've actually banned certain words in our house for my children because I'm like, fuck that. There is no way my 5 year old is going to know what some of these words are, you know, no way at all. And one of them is definitely the C word. And I'm not talking about female genitalia, let's be clear on that. So there are certain things that I'm making sure we are actually nurturing our children in specific environments. They're not getting desensitized. My children will absolutely never wear masks. No fucking way. I'll homeschool them if I need to. You know, this is very important at a large level to again, peeling the onion layers back, controlling what we can control and just finding the little levers to pull and understanding the value. This is the thing, Ken. The value in a compound interest way in investing in yourself, your health, your mind, and ultimately what you expose yourself to and then what you allow your children to be exposed to. That's a pretty important thing, Ken. But mate, it's been an awesome episode. Is there anything that you wanted to touch on or as we wrap this up when we're striving for optimal health? We've touched a lot. Like this has been a massive episode. I've really enjoyed it, mate. Hopefully this has got you guys listening to this. Hopefully. It's just got the brain ticking. It's not what to think, it's how to think. It's Always how to think. Not what to think, how to think, but anything you want to touch on as we wrap this up. Ken?
Yeah, yeah. Like, I think the biggest thing is what I find that's very, very important. And I'm not sure, like as you know our, about family, self and service and you think about family. I want you to consider one thing, okay. Think about if there was ever a situation where when it comes to your children, there's nothing in my life more meaningful or more valuable to me than my children. And like, you know, they talk about blood thicker than water and we talk about these things and I get very, very emotional and I react very quickly when it comes to my children, as I'm sure any parent would. Think about the intensity when you're making decisions about your health and not only your health, but think about your children and the long term effect with your children. So if you start to instill poor information and you're absorbing that information and then you're trying to project that information onto other people, I want you to take a long, hard think about the information and where you've gathered this information from, whether you've just heard it from the news or the radio or wherever you've got it from. Really think long and hard about it. And I want you to dig deep and really, really dig deep. Don't just take it, say, because my mate or my girlfriend or my wife or my husband or whatever else said it, Think about the detrimental effects it may have on your child, your own blood. What would happen if all of a sudden you've given something to your child like arsenic or something else, and they're on their deathbed in a hospital because of. You haven't done your research. You haven't literally pulled back the first layer, the second layer, the third layer, and really investigated whether it was. You've gone to the end of the line. That's what I say. Listen, I get it that we all have busy lifestyles and we all do what we do and we do one or two exercise things a week and we think, shit, that's enough because we're actually moving or we turn the lights off or we don't use a computer once out of seven days a week and we think that that's going to change what go on in our life. Really, in all honesty, think about if you're going to throw something or you're going to feed your children something and it's going to be determined whether they're going to be alive or not within the next 12 months, five years. Think about how deep that is going to affect you.
Yeah.
And I promise you right now, there is no way in hell this earth that my children are going to get any type of injection unless I've absolutely turned over every physical possible stone that I can with everything that I've got. And that's it in a nutshell. So when you make this decision, don't come back in three, five years. Listen, I'll eat humble pie, honestly, listen, I only know the information that's available to me now and this is why. This is a very, very sensitive thing to me and it holds very, very high value in what I do and what I believe in and what my legacy is. Please believe me like I will. I will give up my own life, yeah, to make sure that I'm not going to take another life away from me. So that's one thing I want to finish on with this conversation. Just think about, yeah, if your life, if your children's life are in your hands, you're the one that's got to make a decision. Don't fucking come down the track and be reactive and say, well shit, you know what? Fuck, I made a bad decision. Yeah, I made a bad decision. Don't sit there and be trying to come to me and say, you know what? Yet now I have to be, you know, reactive rather than proactive. Do your homework and do yourself own due diligence about what you're doing to yourself and the people around you and your children. That's all I want to finish on.
Yeah, I love it, Ken. I love it mate. And appreciate that as well. That's the fool's way. It really is an ignorance through what you mentioned in what a lot of people do and not even with big decisions. Guys, please understand we're keeping this relevant obviously to the times right now, but not even in the big decisions which are just as important as the daily decisions. Every single day, all the little ones giving your children continual production ducks, giving them to eat and ingest, giving them continual doses of a lack of balance in their life with sun, with activity, just completely sedating them with technology, iPads, all that sort of shit, just really, you know, here's the thing, like I'm willing to die for my kids just like you are. Kemb. Just as important, if not more. I'm actually willing to live for them because I know if I'm living for them and living and breathing the message and being a leader, then that's going to transfer into their natural skills development and decision making processes. When I'M not around as well now. Phenomenal episode, Ken. Loved having you on again, mate. Thank you for joining us and I hope you guys got a lot of value. There's some deep stuff in this. Make sure again you don't, don't get triggered. Don't take anything in a way that's going to be preconceived because your current belief systems are being challenged. That's the fucking fool's way. We are always open, I am always open to different perspectives on things, aligning through leadership, courage and growth, not fear and being proactive, not reactive. Love that one as well, Ken, but thanks again for joining us, mate. Thanks guys for tuning in. Hope you got a lot out of this and we'll hit you guys in another one next week.
1,000 minutes a day, it's a lot. But when you're wasted on shit that doesn't serve you or move yourself or your family forward, you are are bleeding the most valuable resource that you and I never get back. How much time do you think you have and how much quality do you think you've had? Don't be a fool like the masses, thinking you'll cheat the system or get round to it one day or worse. Just accepting life and sinking back into a slumber of regret. This is your moment, your time. You're cut from a different cloth. You have the hunger and desire to be more and live more. Otherwise you wouldn't be here. So stand up, find the golden nuggets. In this episode, you just listened to and align immediate action with them and where you want to go, you are worthy. This is your life. You are the king and this is your kingdom. Now go and claim it by showing, not telling and be the real leader. You and I both know you were born to be.
