Al argues that small, consistent investments in a few non-negotiables—meal prep, brief workouts, time-blocking, family nights—produce outsized returns over time. He frames modern fathers' lives as prone to drift and presents a 9% conscious choice model: most behavior runs on autopilot, but deliberate decisions can reprogram habits. Three pillars anchor everything: family, self, service.

Foreign. Podcast. I'm your host, Al. In today's episode we talk about the 1 percenters. What do you mean by 1 percenters, Al? How does this work? How does this apply? In today's episode, we're going to be diving into the right structure and platforms that you need to have in your life to execute on what we call the non negotiables. To continually expand A who you want to be and B, getting results, physical, tangible results. Yes, facts, but also feelings. Both of those are important. Drive us to a life with meaning, significance, but using both of those to drive us towards the outcomes that we want in our life. And the outcomes that we want in our life come down to the level of structure that we have in place, using the 1% to get a yield or a return on investment at 99%. So what's the 1% that gives me the 99% reward or result out? What do you mean by that, Al? What I mean is the fogginess that the haze that we find ourselves in where we feel like we're just drifting through life at times, and not just in a calm, centered state, but ultimately through the chaos, the bullshit, reacting to things instead of responding the right way on our terms, simply consuming and then reacting instead of consuming what's around us and having that acknowledgment of what is around us, but then creating a better environment, a better environment internally, externally. None of this is woo woo or crazy stuff like this is real life. There is chaos and crazy shit that happens in your family, in your home life, in your work circumstances, in your personal life, inside of yourself, outside of. Both of those together create a level of uncertainty because the uncertainty draws about from a lack of action or the right actions that will move you forward. So there becomes this huge overwhelm of, well, there's so many things I need to do, I don't know where to start, mate. And I'm just in autopilot and things are just firing away, far and away. Next thing you know, we're at Easter, 2021. Happy Easter. And then it's wintertime and then it's. It's summer again. And. And here we are doing another podcast heading into 2022. This is how fast life goes. Don't take a leaf out of Stephen Biddulph's book, and he's got some good books on raising kids, but one of those areas that he has in those books is for fathers saying, I don't know whether to whisper it in your ear or shout it to your face. Be prepared to not be the most important person for the next 20 years. Like, excuse the French, but what the fuck is that? You got this guy who's supposed to be some sort of leader in helping parents understand their children and creating value in raising their children, yet you're not the most important asset towards your children, from which, if you're 100%, you can then give them 100%. Like, come on. You know, like, this is. And look, he's got great stuff. Like, he's got some good books. They're right there behind me, if you're watching the video. And he's got some great stuff. But that definitely does not sit with me. That is literally, that one sentence has become the byproduct of families falling apart, Men falling apart in the modern world because fathers don't have the right platform from which they invest and value themselves to the level where they recognize it's their life, too. How can I be 100% now so I can give more to my family? And then you're wearing all of these different hats, which creates a huge level of chaos in your life from which you don't know where you are, what you're doing. And you can't execute at the highest level that you need to. And you know you need to because it's just not there. You keep getting older, your body's out of shape. And regardless of how much you weigh, I don't care about that. But what I mean by out of shape is you do not have the energy you need, which means your capacity, your gas tank is small, your performance, your production is limited. And that is coupled with, in a state of diminishing returns, the chaos that continues to increase in your life. Can you see here how this just becomes a complete spiral out of control from which we're getting told by child experts and parental experts that you're not important for 20 years. So you've gone from leaving school, into your 20s, into your 30s, raising your children, all of a sudden becoming 50 or in your early 50s. And the reason why you break down your relationships, divorced or still married, is because you don't even know who the fuck you are. And you don't even know where you stand in your life with your wife, with your children, with your work or your business, which leaves you in a state of uncertainty because you're not taking the actions you know you can take, which takes away that level of control you can have in your life and how you value and see yourself, which then becomes the person who you are. Bitter, twisted, Full of regret in your 60s, 70s and 80s, looking over, going, well, fuck, this is what life was. Doesn't matter what amount of money I have in the bank, doesn't matter how many kids I have or what experiences I've had. This is clearly an indicator of regret in looking over my life and saying, geez, I wish it wasn't so. But where do I go? Who do I turn to? What do I do? I need you guys to understand this is the platform from which RDM continues to drive a higher level of excellence, to see that fathers have an opportunity. It is possible you can change. Great intro, Al, for four to five minutes. What's the point and purpose of all of this? Because remember, none of us, especially you and me, have time to fuck around. So I do everything with a level of purpose. And my point is this. Everything I've just explained, it's real. It's life. It's your life. It's potentially may not be completely your life, but there's definitely an element of that in your life right now. Don't deny that. Get your head out of the sand, stop sweeping shit under the rug and face the facts. Face the truth. Just because you don't speak it or think it doesn't mean that there isn't a truth there. That means you're a liar. And it's hard because the world's full of lies. It's full of people that settle for average, settle for bullshit, and ultimately they create lies inside of their life. Not through what they say or do, through what they don't say, through what they don't do, through what they don't acknowledge and see as the truth of their life. It's a dangerous place to be, man. And it's not easy. You'd think the truth would be simply black and white. It's muddled with a lot of shit that we have. And we all have those lists. My point is this a large portion, monstrous portion, that can be completely reversed by investing in yourself. Starting with the key things in building the right structure in place in your life. Everything in your life is built around structure. And I'll save that for a different podcast and different episode. But it's the truth, mate. Your level of belief and self value, your energy levels, the way you turn up in your marriage, the way you turn up for your children, for your business, your work, what you do, how you add value to the world, what you do inside of yourself, your thoughts, feelings, emotions, all of those are a byproduct of the structures you have in place because what structure creates is a level of value of time that you'll never get back and a level of value of the energy to be efficient in how you invest that energy coupled with that time that you'll never get back. So you'll have a certain amount of energy that will come and go. It'll replenish as it needs to and it'll diminish as it needs to throughout the course of every single day. But ultimately the energy for that specific day, you will never get back. The greatest way to enhance this, though, which is the point of this podcast, is dialing in the most important things. Yes, you can call it focus, you can call it a priority. Not priorities, plural. That doesn't exist. Priority is the most important thing. And there's only ever going to be one most important thing in life. It's using all of those, but using in a way that might be a different cue for today's session for you to go, yeah, well, you know, I connect with that hour. That makes sense. You can look up Pareto's principle or Pareto's law that talks about certain variables where it's like, well, you know, what's the 20% of work that I do in this area for RDM that gives me 80% of the reward. There's lots of different breakdowns and ratios. When I'm talking about 1% and 1 percenters, I'm talking about taking the easy road. Like, make no mistake, there's hard work at play, but it's easier. In contrast to being 80 years old, filled with regret, going, my life was just fucked and I wish I took these chances and I never did. That's way harder. That is a way harder pill to swallow than going through certain discomforts right here and then. Now to break through some of the patterns to create a better level of autonomy in your life. One percents, low hanging fruit. These are the easy options. Let's break them down on some of the key areas for a man, a father like you in the modern world to make sure that you're doing what you said you would do and following through on a path that's going to help you expand. Please understand this. I'm not going to be some motivational wizard that just talks about you growing or dying. You're expanding, you're evolving, life is transcendence, blah, blah, blah. Up. There's definitely a role for that. Awesome. It's great. But what I'm talking about is breaking down the realization that you are either getting better or worse in life. You know, Regardless of where your body is, the gray hairs you have, the wrinkles on your face in terms of your energy and how you express that and how do you. How you utilize that with a higher efficiency under your kingdom, your children will move out, you know, different things will happen. But it's your kingdom. You're the head of the tree. That, that's something that is critical to evaluate and understand where the pitfalls lie and where the glory can lie in going. Well, do I choose to be a victim or a victor? And one of the greatest ways is dialing into those 1 percenters, starting off nutrition. Okay, so what do I need to do, Al? I need to get the primal power one book or I need to download nutritional guide or cut carbs, cut fats, Keto's the answer. All of these different things, fasting, sacrificing my calories. Look, none of those are specifically the answer. They're all pieces of information. But all of that aside, what you need to do is find and dial something in that's congruent with your lifestyle, that's achievable and sustainable, and that also supports your hormones and your metabolic rate through your thyroid. A healthy, functioning thyroid is critical to maintaining the furnace inside that's going to keep you in optimal health, optimal energy, and maintaining a level of fat burning so that you don't have stored unused excess energy that literally weighs you down. Doesn't mean we need to be shredded. You know, I don't have a rippling eight pack, but I'm very strong, very fit, very healthy and competent in what I do. I've got a massive gas tank, and my performance goes through the roof because of that. But what is the 1% that I've applied to nutrition that yields the 99% ROI? My investment's 1%. And this is crazy. It's so simple, it's so in your face and true and real. But it's unrecognized by a lot of us. Why? Because of what I opened up with in this podcast episode. The chaos, the fog, the cloudiness around us leaves us with no clarity to pinpoint the one thing that we need to focus on to move us forward. So I'll give you some personal examples for nutrition. 1%. What's the 1% that will yield the 99% return? My 1% is as simple as this. Buying bulk and getting them to package and put the meats together at the butcher's in a way where I know it's going to sustain me for two to four meals and storing that either in the fridge or freezer in a way where I know it must be used or it will go to waste. And coordinating that with my carbs and fats and what I do in a way that is setting me up to be successful for the week and have lots of energy. How do you do that, Al? Well, simple. I'll give you a very, very simple example right now. I'll get three sets of three chook breasts. Okay. It's already been trimmed back. It's all set. Good to go. Chuck it in the oven 150 degrees. Throw a shitload of salt on there. Salt's amazing for you. Get the white sea salt. Himalayan rock salt's okay, but white sea salt's better. And throwing it in the oven 150 degrees, 25 minutes. Done. Three chook breasts, it's going to give me roughly 180 to 230 grams of meat per serve, which is going to yield around 30 to 50 grams of protein. Done. Don't even have to think you want to cook some spuds or sweet potato in the oven. Awesome. Good for you. But while I set that up, which takes me literally, like, it's turning the oven on, putting some herbs and spices on the chicken, putting it on a tray and throwing it in, setting a timer like you could do it in 60 seconds. While I'm doing that, the other 60 seconds. So this is a two minute investment, is throwing three cups of rice or three half cups of rice and a half cup of quinoa in a rice cooker and then doubling that with water or coconut water because there's some good electrolytes in that adds a nice flavor. You gotta go two to one. So if it ends up being two cups of rice or quinoa, it's four cups of liquid. Throw it in the rice cooker, turn it on. Done. Every half cup gives you two serves. So if I do two cups, I've got four serves there. Like, that's a lot. So I've got four and it ranges. I'm just giving you a quick example, but it ranges between four to six serves. With my rice and my chook, I'll do three to five chook breasts. Beautiful. I'm set. I am done, man. Super easy. Yes. I've got the RDM protein powder. That's amazing. It saves me from having kilos of meat every single day. It's convenient. It's something that's structured. It's not a meal replacement, but it certainly helps me with the digestive enzymes. With the other Food I eat and the collagen in there, it's phenomenal. Keeps me young, healthy, strong, looks after my bones, my joints, all of the above, gut health and so on. Yes, I do that. That's convenient. It's not a meal replacement. It's not loaded with 30 ingredients. It's five ingredients. Like that's it. All natural. Awesome. So yes, I'll do that and I'll go for the quick kills in that respect. But when we're looking at this, look at this 1%, man, I've spent, even if we blow it out five minutes, I've spent five minutes preparing the next three to six meals as well as, like I said, having my protein shakes, having other things like my oats and other sources of meat, whether it's bacon, eggs and whatnot that I've prepped as well. All of that collectively can be around 10 to 15 minutes worth of prep time. Whether it's the shake, bacon and eggs, the chook, the rice, spuds, whatever it may be, fruit. Because we have protein, carbs and fats, we don't sacrifice. Here we have everything. All of that for 15 to 20 minute prep is across the board going to give me anywhere between 10 and 15 meals. Mate, that's massive. There's your 1% right there. Because those 10 to 15 meals, eating that, consuming it, digesting it, getting the health benefits, getting the energy from it, to then perform at work, to perform in the gym, to perform with my family, with my children, all of that is the 99%. It takes way longer, it's a way longer period of experiencing life than the 10 to 15 minute so called sacrifice, which it isn't because you're expanding into a better version. It's a sacrifice if you don't do these things to ultimately set the foundations in place where the decision making process is done, the thought process is done, I don't have to think. The non negotiables are in place. I will waste money and time and effort if I do not consume and do this. Like it's that simple. Set yourself up so you're planning the work and then bang. Mean you just work that plan. That is your 1%, quick kills, 1%. What do I need to do? Awesome. Bang, bang, bang. Set that up. Beautiful. Now I don't have to think I know exactly what's happening. Like I used to laugh when I saw the pairs of undies that you'd see advertised where it had literally every day of the week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. But I see the relevance in that. You can set up your work uniform, any sort of uniform. I mean, I've got my RDM button up on, I've got singlets, I've got shirts, I've got polos. But all I basically wear is idm. That's my entire wardrobe. But my point is this, like there is value in that. What's today you don't have to think, save your willpower, your brain power and it is a processing unit. Save your computing power between the years to apply that level of focus on what truly matters. And I'll bundle that up with the 91% autonomy in your life because that's huge. That's an important thing to recognize. I'll just make quick notes so I don't forget and this will all make sense. But bundle that together to go. What do I need to focus my efforts and energy on? It's not picking out what specific pair of undies. And obviously that's one not extreme, but that's one specific example. It doesn't have to apply to your life, but in the key areas with the greatest variables. One of the biggest life forces that will drive home the energy and the experiences you'll have is your nutrition. But it's also got the most variables. Creating space for yourself, training, time out with your family, all these other things that are the life force, the lifeblood of what entails you as a man and what has meaning and significance in your life. It can be pretty constant and it can just be a one hit. I might have two to three date nights or date days with my wife. Done. Set it in place. Awesome. I might train three to four days a week. Beautiful. Done. Time out with the kids, creating something new, a new experience, teaching them something, helping them learn. Awesome. Two to three times your nutrition is three to five times a day. Like that is frequent. Man. That's the most frequent life force, which means it's got the most variables in different environments, which means it's got the most chaos. If you don't create structure and order inside of your life. I hope you can see what I'm talking about here and this is coming through to you incredibly powerful. It's why I started with nutrition. It's very important when you have 20 to 25 meals a week to see the variables, the volume and frequency, the return on investment and what that yields to you, all bundled in a whole world of chaos that can be tied into 1% of application, effort and focus at specific times throughout the week to set you up to win the week, to win the month, to win the quarter to win the year. Okay, we are the time recordings. 12th of January. Bang. Game on. Like we're two weeks in, two weeks into 2021. The second decade, the second year of the Decade of Dads. We've got that on the back of our shirts. I'll be wearing that shirt. I don't care how many holes it gets in it. This is our decade. It is our time. I'm not going to wait. I can't wait till 2031. Now is the time. This is needed. You know it, I know it. It's why what we do is at the highest level that there is. There is no competition. This is focus and domination for 2021. Yes, for RDM obviously, but for dads as well. 1%. Ask yourself this question. Where am I going? Backwards by applying 99% of unfocused unconscious efforts in the area of my life, but also nutrition specifically. Right now, that's only yielding a 1% return. See, it goes both ways. It's very important to recognize that next one exercise. Okay, cool. Well, for me it's not about this morning. I got up early, went to the gym, about 4:45 by the time I got there. But there was a process. I woke up, took my mojo. I mean I have that every morning. Obviously my RDM mojo. Jumped in the car, went to the gym, did my training session, went for about an hour, had a shower, jumped in the car, had my post workout shake and coconut water, bits of fruit, loaded up, came to the office and here we are. That's my morning prep. All of that encompasses exercise. It's not just sitting on the bike counting calories. All of that is your exercise regime. That's a long time. Like we're looking at sort of 4:30, set the alarm at 4:15 this morning. 4:30 between 4:30 and 6:30. And yes, there's other things. There's my nutrition there, there's you know, traveling to and from RDM hq and there's arriving at the gym and warming up and having a shower, getting dressed, all that sort of stuff. But, but that is my exercise. That's my commitment to my time, creating space and my exercise. That's a long time. What's the 1% out? Very simple. Communicating that with a level of investment and commitment to that which is important for me. So the tribe, the dads know. Hey, how's getting up? Rise to win. It's a challenge we're doing at the moment. I'm getting up early, I'm going to do a training session, then Do a live video for the dads to share some wisdom for the day in complete control. Complete state. Starting the day in complete control. So no matter what chaos, what bullshit hits us for the rest of the day and you and me get plenty to worry about that. I have started with complete control, which has given me laser focus and the ability to tap into what I need to to handle the stress, handle the dramas, handle the adversity and come out on top with a proper internal frame of who I am and what's important for me to handle, what it is that I influence outside of myself. That 1% is a commitment to the tribe and communicating that I'm accountable. Now it's the tribe. Can't let them down. I'm investing in something larger and bigger than myself from which I'll raise the bar of my standards. The other 1% setting the work up like yes, getting up at 4:15. It would be nicer to go to bed 15 minutes earlier, but does that really matter in the grand scheme of things or do I spend that 15 minutes before bed having my RDM night rider? So that puts me into a good sleep, gives me good depth in my sleep, wakes me up more refreshed and more recharged. I literally get my mojo out and get everything ready and sit there. Got my glass, everything's set. I will wake up. I don't even have to think. I've got all my gym bags set. I've got my clothes to change into, my towel for the shower, my deodorant, it's all there. I've already got my plan and structure set for the next day. So from what rolls into waking up exercise RDM doing this podcast right now. Coaching calls, family time and commitments. Pools with the girls this afternoon, creating support for my wife with dinner, bath time, bed. The entire day is done. All that's left is to experience it and be present in the moment. Can you see here how the pattern of setting up the 1% in one area? My exercise completely steamrolls what the next events that follow will be and the level of efficacy, like the way I approach it, my efficiency and my performance in those and what that will entail. And guess who's watching my children. Guess who's part of it? My wife. Guess who sees the results and the rewards. My tribe rdm getting all my gear out ready and early to just fucking bang, rock and roll, setting the alarm and commitment to the tribe. Those three things take less than 15 minutes to yield an investment which is obviously prolonged. Like my body will stay in good shape. There's a return on everything I'm doing with exercise that lasts longer than five, three hours. But that 10 to 15 minute investment gives me three, four, five, six hours to set up the entire day for me to win. 1%. What's the 1% that gives you the 99% return on investment? And the investment is you, Your time, your life, your energy, environment. Do you need to go and join clubs and spend hours and hours in certain places, people, places and things to be part of the RDM environment you're in? That's it. You got access to it at any time. The 1% is making a commitment, engaging, consuming to then go and create in how that applies to you. The coaching, the mindset tools, the pieces that we put in place for our dads to go and execute. That's it. That simple. Like your environment and what you spend in watching our coaching videos. The dads who are part of RDM will obviously watch and listen to this podcast. All the different coaching elements of what we have across the board of a week. Yeah, it's not 20 hours of work, we don't need it. But it's connection every single day. But the 1% is a commitment to that connection and investing time and prioritizing time to engage and dive into the group. 1%, 99%. These are the key things. Planning, family time, relationships. Like when me and my wife are alone and together. I don't need to have some sort of different agenda. I've known her since I was 17. This is something where and we've been together for a long, long time. And ultimately the time is ours to create whatever we choose and desire. Which is why again, I'll do it on another podcast episode. And I've done some with where I've peppered around structure, but structure is critical. You are buying your freedom. I am one of the most rebellious people you will ever see. Don't worry about that. When it comes to rules and regulations that don't fly with me, it leads to a level of fear, victimhood, bullshit surrounding whether it's the education system. When I was going through high school, nearly getting in punch ons with teachers that were just complete fuckwits. And I could see that. And yes, obviously, being young and full of testosterone, I was rising to the core and willing to stand up for what I believe in. My wife's a primary teacher. I'm not bagging out the entire industry as a whole. I'm saying for myself, there's a rebellious nature, but the gift in having that Freedom, which is what people who are genuinely rebellious want is removing the chaos and creating structure to value your time. Your buying your freedom. Jocko Willink and ex Special Forces in the usa. Yeah, discipline equals freedom. It's great. But you don't need to be disciplined or heavily disciplined to live a fruitful life. In fact, you need fuck all discipline. You only need to apply that 1% rule to get the 99% return long enough until that discipline's gone and it becomes a pattern and that pattern becomes a part of you again. I'll finish up the podcast with this. In talking about 91% of your life being autonomous and setting those principles in place. So when it comes to date nights and date days and structuring time with my wife and whatnot, the 1% is really sitting down, organizing a short period of time, 5 minutes to time block where we want to catch up, what we want to do and what that looks like and what time of day built around the kids, the structure that we have in place for them, the structure we have in place for ourselves. My work her keeping the household nice and regimented as she needs to as that's what she's doing at the moment while she's got three kids under five and working the household. Everything we do is built around communication clarity, which helps us understand that what we do in planning time for us gives us the benefit of spending a long time together with higher rewards in just being present and creating whatever the fuck we want to create. Relationships, not just your wife can be with anyone. Your children as well. The work environment, setting yourself up to play. What's the one most, the most important thing, the one thing that I need to do. And it is a great book by Gary Keller. The one thing it's. It's an incredible book. It's one of the most influential books for me in terms of performance for sure. There's a couple of others that trump that for me. But what is the critical thing that I must do? See, I've been in the office since sort of just after six, I'd say. I know I said 6:30 earlier, but just after six. And for me, for the last four hours, three to four hours, my focus has been on the critical things that are going to help me develop and move forward. The message of rdm, what we entail, the way we communicate and the way we serve our family. Fathers. This is one of those. But this was not the most important thing. Which is why after a workout, pumped up. Yep, awesome. Ready to start the day. The endorphins are going all sort of stuff didn't necessarily mean that I had to go into a podcast. I had other things that were more important, you know, and having to do lists or to dominate lists is really separated between asking yourself, am I just surviving and going through these check checking these boxes just so I can feel good and have this sense of accomplishment when none of it really fucking matters, or do I have a shorthanded list of things to dominate to really get after? I call it a power list. What's my power list? And all right, you still got them. Like I've got my to do list here and it runs 15 deep. There's always going to be a level of damage control in your business, in your work environment, where sometimes you just need to allocate and coordinate some time to tick off the things that you need to for maintenance. I get that. But the power list, what are the one to three key things that I need to do today from which everything else becomes easier, unnecessary, and I move forward, forward in my life and what I do with work and how I value that, literally by time blocking and creating that and then creating an understanding of why that's going to serve you and move you forward. Who's involved with that, how you coordinate that as a team is going to yield the 99% return on investment in your work and your business and what you do. Can you see the pattern here? This is an incredibly powerful podcast. They all have gifts and, and beautiful takeaways. And that's not saying that I'm the big dog and the man who just whatever I say, I just shit excellence and whatnot. What I'm saying is there's always a gift. Whether there's something you don't agree with, whether there's something you don't connect with. At least it gets the thought provoking nature into swing into play. You're out in the field. You're not sitting on the sidelines of life watching your game of life go by. You're in the field and you're playing. So there's value in all of them, but this one is critical for this time of year for you to see where you can best coordinate your efforts in the present and in the now to square away those key areas which I've broken down a few of them. But remember, there's only three your circles of significance. The three most important things that make your life. Family, self, service, all of them. There'll be some counter juggling, counterbalancing at times where you'll lean on others the circles will be bigger in others than they will in some of them. And that's okay. But too often, as fathers, just like Stephen Biddoff said, which other people have reinforced, you just give up the next fucking 20 years of your life and then you're left helpless and isolated and you've got nothing of value you can add or give to those you care about. Well done. What a great way to move forward into the second half in life. And please understand, I'm not a smartass, but I'm saying that with absolute certainty that if you continually take action and back yourself and invest in yourself, you can give more to those you care about. Your kingdom, king of the castle, your palace. But it's your kingdom. You are the head of the tree in your own right, in your own respects, that can add that influence and power over those you care about, first and foremost yourself. Which brings me to my final point, to bundle all this together with some context. 91% of your life is autonomous. What I'm talking about now is creating a high level of effort and energy in the present, from which when you have that balance of power between being present and autonomy, what you're doing automatically, conscious and subconsciously you are winning and rerecording the subconscious mind with patterns that serve you from which you've made that decision from the conscious mind. See, any habits, any character traits, habits, behaviors, routines, rituals, all that sort of shit comes down to the autonomy in your life, which is 91%. The 9% of consciousness, though, is the most powerful because that is what creates the recording. That is what creates the re recording over bad patterns, bad behaviors, bad habits of what you run in, autonomy in your life. This is why it's critical to have a higher level of emphasis, drive and force behind what is you want. This is fucking why I want this. Out in the conscious now, in the present moment, use that 9%. Computer processing units. I said right at the start, your consciousness and what it can focus on and execute. Which is why you should only focus on one thing at a time. Multitasking is a scam. It doesn't work. Focus on one thing at a time. If you're a computer processing unit, you're processing 40 bits per second. Your subconscious operates at 40,000 bits per second. That's much more powerful, obviously incredibly powerful. Your subconscious. 40 bits, 40,000. That's why you can drive a car without having to actually be present or aware of your surroundings. You do have things that have a critical nature, whether it's accidents, whether it's a Shift in the environment, slamming on the brakes, starting green light, red light, all that, I get that. But how often do you look at the person crossing down the road further away? That's out of your sight, but it's in your peripherals or the street signs that you go past, or the other cars, the color, the make of the cars, what they are, the roads, the different lines that you have, the different roundabouts, the trees in the middle of the roundabout, the people walking their dogs, all of that is subconsciously being recorded and taken in. But consciously, you can't focus on all that. The pressure of your foot on the accelerator, changing gears or not steering the wheel, where you hold the wheel, all of that is a level of autonomy. You do it well because you've created the pattern in being present and consciously now, in the moment, to build the skill set to run with that level of autonomy in driving a car. And obviously there's a lot of variables in terms of ability and not bagging out female drivers as well, but just saying, there's definitely variables in terms of competency when it comes to getting behind the wheel. My point is this, though. 9% conscious. So whilst your subconscious is more powerful, the greatest influence over that power is what you do now. Which is why, even if we change this 1% to 99%, if we change it, what's the 9% I can do to create the 91% return? Like, that's probably, I guess, if we're going to pick something scientific, something real awesome, like, if the 1% for 99% works for you, great. But if we're talking real science, like that is a metaphor, that is a hypothetical. Like, if I spend five, five minutes preparing for something, that doesn't mean I need to times that 5 minutes by 99 minutes for the return on investment, you know what I'm saying? But if you want to talk science, absolutely. What's the 9% that I'm consciously present, consciously aware of doing right here and now, that's going to set me up for better future present moments, for better future nows, in which 91% of those better future nows, even though I'm still present in that, are actually run autonomously from what I've done, what I've set, I've set that work, I've worked that plan, and I continue to refine and optimize that. This is the power, man. Like, yes, fatherhood's hard work. You're in the second half. Don't waste 40, you know, don't waste your 40s and 50s and give away 20 years like fucking old mate with the raising kids book says you should do. No wait. This is your life. Like be as powerful as you can be as you should be. For your family, for your children, for your wife, for yourself. Because this is your world. You are living it. Regardless of the chaos, the fog, the drifting, the floating through space just feeling like Groundhog Day spiraling out of control at times. This is your life. Set better foundations around the structures you can have in place to get the low hanging fruit and have the slight levels of discomfort. Yes, because the patterns must change. But that is the easy path. The uncomfortable nature of the discomfort is leading you to an easier path. Do what is hard. Your life will be easier. Take the easy road, mate. Not if, but when the adversity comes that you haven't foreseen or you haven't handled before, it will fucking knock you for six. There's plenty of times when we have our back against the wall. When we do, push off, push off the wall, double down, triple your efforts in coordinating the value of time and the efficiency of how you'll spend your energy with that time accordingly. And there's your 99%. That's the huge return. It's only a small investment. 1%. Apply that 1% every single day. Apply that 1% across family, self and service and I promise you mate, you'll make big inroads into creating a wonderful life for the back end for the second half, but creating intent with better focus and pure fucking domination for 2021. Hope you enjoyed this episode. Make sure you dive into our other episodes and check in for our next few ones where we're getting some amazing guests on board and we're really expanding on structure and how that plays a critical role in what I've said just and gone through just then to winning and not surviving, not existing, thriving, winning the second half in life.
