ASD, Jack, and Chris review Tottenham's season, discussing player performances, key moments, and what's next for the club. They cover the team's achievements and challenges in an informal fan conversation about the year ahead.
Really stubborn. Going all the way again here. And Leonard's kicked him out. Oh, this is incredible. This is quite incredible. Truly a glory, glory day for Tottenham Hotspur.
Hi, guys, I'm Andrey Vilas Boas listening.
To Echoes of Glory. And don't forget, whatever happens, the future is bright.
Future is lily white.
Come on, your Spurs.
Hello and welcome to the final Echoes of Glory of the season.
We've made it.
We're here. And what a season it was. I'm asd.
I'm Jack.
And I'm Chris.
Chris is here. How you doing, Chris?
I'm great. I'm still buzzing and I plan to be buzzing for the whole season. I took the piss out of my mates who are Newcastle fans for talking about the Carabao cup for one week after they won it. And although of course the Europa League shits on that. Excuse my language, I now understand it. But I will be talking about it all year.
I mean, you went right, you were there. Did how was.
Was fan tastic. I honestly just loved every minute of it. It was like the longest day of my life because I went in and out in a day. So I didn't sleep for like 32 hours or actually longer to be fair, because I got. So I left the house, I stayed at my sisters because I was taking my nephew and we were going from South End and their house was a bit closer to South End. Not really. No one. None of us live in Essex, London, South End, allegedly. And we left the house at 5 o' clock in the morning. I got back to my sisters at 7am on the Thursday morning. I got back to my house at half past nine and the first thing I did was I made myself a bagel, obviously, because I was hungry. And then I sat and watched the game, which is arguably one of the worst games of football ever. But it didn't matter because I knew what the ending was and I was joyous throughout it. And then I watched the trophy. You know, all the things that I watched in this, in the stadium, but I only had my view of. And then watched it from there. I just loved it. Absolutely loved it. And then I went to bed. I fell asleep on the chair, obviously. And then I got the next day and went to the parade. Didn't do any work that week. It was brilliant because I was too excited beforehand and. And obviously afterwards, you know. So, yeah, it was good. It was great. It was great. Actually. It was better than good. It was great and just a high little highlight for you. Went to the booked in the book to go to the Guggenheim because of the way the flight turned out. We got there and we would have had to leave within about 15 minutes because I was, I'd booked to meet my uncle and my cousin for lunch and when we was, we were like we'll just have a little walk around the perimeter. And there was this bar in this kind of on this grassland sort of opposite it on one side of it. And I heard Vicario, Vicario. And I was like there is only one reason why there are people randomly singing Vicario in this bar and that's because Mama and Papa Vicario are in the bar. So I turned around and of course Mama Vicario is like doing a dance to everyone singing her name. So I went over and had a little chat to them because I did that event with, with her for women of the lane a couple of months ago. So that was really nice. And she did say to me that she felt sick to her stomach because. Because her boy is the goalkeeper. That meant that if something goes wrong and it's his fault then that is the worst thing. So anyway, there you go. Sorry asd you did ask.
No, no. And little did she have to worry because he made some outstanding saves. He was one of the players of the match. I. It was an awful game of football but there was some brilliant individual performances I think, I think we had, we did, we talked about it before. I spent a lot of time reflecting on it. We did what we had to do and we had our most creative players out. I think it was, it was the right thing to do. But here we are. It's the end of the season, it's the end of the season awards so let's just go for it. So I'm going to give you a category. If you could give me any nominations then we'll vote. So player of the season I'm going to give you Bergwell has already won the club player of the season. I'm going to give you Poro and Destiny Udogie because they are the hardest working players in the system that we play. I'm going to give you Solanki who did a lot of running. Kuleski who was our most creative player. And then finally Johnson, top scorer and scorer of the winning goal in the European cup final. Have I missed anyone?
Archie Gray.
Gray, one of the center backs.
My, my, my. I voted for Bergval in the official one but I was torn between Bergval or Gray. But like now obviously Johnson's done what he's done in the final. It is difficult to look past him. But Bergvale and Gray for me have been the two standout performers all season. If we try and look at over the season, Johnson has, has also chipped him with a lot of important goals. But Bergval was a young player being thrown in. I think we were all, we all probably didn't quite know what he was at the start of the season. What type of midfielder was he going to be? I, I thought we'd signed a you know, creative player that plays just off the front kind of player but actually we've signed what looks to be like a bit of an old school box to box midfielder. Gets stuck in aggressive, good with the ball. I think he's had an amazing breakthrough season at like 18:19 to be playing center midfield in the Premier League. He's, he's been magnificent. You know he's one of the first names on the team sheet. If everybody's fully fit like surely he's.
In our best 11.
So I think he, he, he was who I voted for but I, I did, I did take a bit of time considering it because I thought Archie Gray did so well for that. What was what will probably be the hardest period of his entire career. He's already experienced playing well. What has he played all across the defensive line and in and in midfield. He's, you know, he's been everywhere this season for us and he's played well. Albeit the games where he was sort of a mainstay in the starting 11 was the period where we lost loads. I thought he individually did really, really well during that period, especially when he was back at center half. So it was between the two of them for me. But I think Bergval was a, I was happy to see him win. It was, is my take on that one.
Go on Chris. You've got smile on.
Johnson. Still in my head. Still in my head. Look, I think if you think about the sort of the narrative arc of Brendon Johnson's season, right. It was this season that he deleted his social media for the. He was getting. It wasn't last season, that was this season. And you know I think he again a young man and I, I look he's. No one ever performs at 100 so I never quite understood what people's issue is with him. Right. Because actually his stats are good. He's. I know we haven't had a great season but he, he scored goals, he's give, he got assists. He turns up in the, you know, he could take someone on, you know and he's a young man so you know, look, I, I really like him but. So I think I probably err on the side of him. But actually I've got to say that I've. There's been a bit of a Poro renaissance for me this season in the sense that, you know, lot last season I was a bit like I'm not sure is he that best whatever. And I really rate Jed Spence as well. So I think that's a good. That's a challenge, right, Because I really like Jed Spence. I like the way he plays football. You thought actually his posing with the trophy was. Was, you know, he probably wins the photographs with the trophy award but I thought Poro's been excellent and I don't know if you saw there was an article in the Guardian that. On the Spain camp and you know, and you know, he talks about how he feels like he's playing the best football of his career, that Ange is getting the best out of him. So I think I'd probably go Johnson with honorable mention for Paro.
The fullbacks for me are so important in the way that we've been playing because I think we've got a bit of a challenge connecting defense to midfield, the midfield to attack. And the way that gets connected is down the wings and the. The two people who are doing it best are Poirot and Udalki. Like Poirot is a striker, a midfielder, a winger and a fullback. And he gets criticized for his defending, but he's doing really well across four roles. And he has to be the fittest player I've ever seen at Tottenham. Those two just like doggy. I don't know how he didn't just fall over with cramp at the end of the game last Wednesday.
Didn't Poro play the most minutes of anybody in Europe in the top leagues this season?
Really?
He was, he, he. If you think back to the season that we had, he played all the time that like he just wasn't rested. Was he really at any, at any stage in the season because there was no one else to play. He's a good player, Po. I think when you play to his strengths, as we've seen at times this season, he. His creativity is excellent in it. From that, from that right hand side, what he can do. He's got that old school, you know, first time cross, isn't he? Which we, I don't think we utilize anywhere near enough. But it's been good to see him get into more of the positions on the pitch where we know he can do damage like what you don't want is Poro for the majority of the game defending on you to his own box. Like you need to play in a way where he can get forward and he can, he can show what he can do.
It's a shame he's not on the opposite side to Johnson because Johnson's skill is those runs into the box and those two be perfect for each other.
Poro would be amazing in a system that played wing backs. He. He's just absolutely tailor made for it, isn't he? I'm not saying we should do that, but he's. He's just perfect for it.
Can I say I've got the predictions in front of me and Chris? We didn't have you right at the beginning of the season for some reason, so we don't have your predictions. Jack, you said, do you remember who.
You said was player of the season? I might have gone with Solanke.
Your memory never ceases to amaze me. You got Solanke. You predicted 18 goals which will happen next season. I think you know I'm a big fan of Big Dom. I said van der Sterling season, brilliant player roles. He's almost got that problem that Kane had when Sonny kept on winning the player of the year where you just, you just expect high things from him. So he never goes above your expectations because he always delivers those nine out of ten performances. Rob said, Vicario, Joel said, Romero. I mean, all good choices. But.
We'Ve all had all of those players there that we said have all had good seasons when they've been available. That. And that's been the story of the season, isn't it? Like Van der Fem when he's played has just been incredible. So I mean one of the best center backs in, in the whole league. But we just obviously, you know, we've just not seen all those players enough. So I think there's a case for all of them. If you looked at just minutes on the pitch that each of those people you've just mentioned as these had, they've all been brilliant. Like nobody. I don't feel like anybody's had a bad season. That's what's weird. We've just, we've only had so weird, isn't it? And we're seven and we finished 17th. But like is there anyone that you're like you've been terrible. Like. No, they've all done all right.
But you know what that intimates to me though is exactly where, where this issue has come from. The whole thing is that the injuries have Absolutely mullered us this season. They've totally mulled us. And despite the fact that obviously losing 22 times is unacceptable. You know, maybe it's kind of the best post rationalization ever, but if the focus really was on the Europa League, it worked, given the times we were dealt. Sorry.
Yeah, I wish he'd said it because he said. He said it to Daniel in January. I've heard that he said that. He said we. We're going to focus on getting that Champions League place through winning the Europa League. And he did it. Yeah. It would have helped to manage our expectations a bit. Should we give it to. Let's give it to Poirot. Bergwell's one. Enough. I think Poirot was. Earned it from the position he was in where spurs fans didn't like him, where he's getting criticized. He called out Tim Sherwood, didn't he? For saying Tim Sherwood said he was an awful player. I think he's done really well.
No.
Tactics, Tim.
Okay.
A 442. It ain't right.
It's a simple game, football. Just tell them to go out there and play.
Bit of gut. Put the ball in the box.
Yeah.
Can I. I've got our predictions for Europa League.
Jack.
You said we'd win it.
Look at that. That was optimistic. Was it at the start of the season?
That's good. I mean, massive kudos to you for that right there.
I don't think we ever get the start of the season predictions right. So that's me. This is actually gonna be my last episode because I peaked.
It's only taking me like a decade. FA Cup, Jack. You said quarters. I said third round, League cup, fourth round, semi final. Let's talk about unexpected heroes. So who did we have the least expectations of when they beat us now? We've already talked about Gray, we've talked about Poro. Is there anyone else in that squad?
I want to give a slightly left field shout out to Brandon Austin, who we all had zero expectation for at the start, the start of the season. And we saw him play, didn't we? And he played the home defeat to Newcastle till he lost 2:1. And he actually played bloody well. He made a couple of really good saves. He only played one game, so the sample size is tiny. But I don't think any of us would have expected to have seen our fourth choice keeper at any point. We probably wouldn't even expect to see him on the bench, let alone actually starting a Premier League game. So I think he has to get a. He has to Get a bit of a shout.
We. I. The timeline of this season is. Is. Is all over the place in my mind. Did we sign Kinski in January? Yeah. Oh my God. And I will. Come on.
I got injured and then Forster got.
Injured and then Forster got injured because Kinski's.
Kinski's first two games. Weren't they something mad? Like Liverpool at home in the Carabao cup and we won 1 nil. And then it was. Yeah. And then. And then like three days later it was like Tamworth and then it was Arsenal and like that was his intro to English football.
There was that lovely image, wasn't there? Of. Of him going over to his. His family and his sister and giving them a hug. See, he'd made it. That was really nice. Yeah. Liverpool, Tamworth, Arsenal. Again, amazing memory.
Need to get life.
You do need to go live. Unexpected hero. Jack, you said Archie Grail. Vicario. I said Archie Gray. Robin Giles both said Vicario. Sorry, it's between Bergval and Archie Gray, isn't it? I get. I'm voting for Archie Gray. Yeah.
I'm happy with that.
I'm happy it's Archer Gray. But I'm. I'm vote for Brandon Austin.
It's a nice thing to do. I mean, it's very kind. Archie Gray. I mean we still bought him for. Was it 50 million or something? 40 million that our expectations should have been high. Yeah.
Or Alfie Whiteman for his film reviews. Thanks for everything, Alfie.
Yeah.
Wonder where he'll end up.
It's a rarity this season that we have seen pretty much everybody in our squad play. Has that like, has that. Has that ever happened?
Who.
Is there anyone we've not seen?
Got the squad in front of me.
Obviously excluding. Excluding people that have been on loan all season.
We saw Dane Scarlet. We saw Alie Whiteman. We see Alfie Whiteman.
We didn't see Alfie Whiteman.
He's the only one.
I think he's the. I think he is the only one.
The first team here that I've got here.
We even saw. We even saw Regulon in the palace game.
How does he get a medal? How many appearances did he. He make?
Oh, but I mean, not just the medal, right? Whatever. It's just like the amount of like celebration how much he was hogging the trophy that it was at the front of everything when the. You know, it's just like, do you have no shames? Maybe you just thought I've been here for years, I deserve this. I don't know.
I'm not sure he made an appearance this season in the Europa League because I've got the transfer market. He made one FA cup, one Carabao cup and four Premier league appearances. I was in Naples the day after they won the Scudetto and that was incredible. Posted flags, shirts, everything. It was. It was white and blue everywhere. And what was really interesting was Kovarich Kushida, you know, the Georgian player, he's got a league medal for winning it with psg. And he's got the Scudetto medal because he. He went in January and he played half the season for Napoli. So he's got two league winners medals this season and a champions league medal. It's a class decent manager of the season. We've had to do this for the last couple of seasons and there's only one nomination. So it's going to have to go change, doesn't it? So well done, big ang. Manager of the season. Goal of the season. This is really difficult because I can't remember many of them. There haven't been many great goals. I'm going to give you Suns Olympico goal from the corner against Man United which I think was an accident. We're gonna have to do Sunny Johnson's goal in the final. For sentimentality. I'm gonna give you the Mickey Van de Ven. Fastest run in the Premier League ever. Interception, an assist goal against Man United which was this season, which was incredible.
Who scored that goal?
Johnson.
Johnson again back post. Yeah, it's happen.
Who else paid 50 million for.
Yeah.
Any others? I mean we're going to do moment of the season and I've got the hat trick by the. The kids in the Europa League. None of them were amazing goals, but they were great moments.
Yeah.
I think it's hard to look beyond the Brennan's goal in the final.
Can we exclude that? Because that will. Will always rem that. That will.
I quite like Poro's accidental goal.
Against Bodo.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because.
Didn't mean that cross.
Great crosses one.
Just because that was fun. You know those things are fun. And then they always like pretend that it was. It was intentional and then you know it isn't and that's kind of fun. But I mean Mickey's run was unbelievable.
Yeah, it was. When that. That feels. That does not feel like it was this season. Yeah, that could have. That could have. I know. Obviously he didn't mention that. Could have panned to Pochettino in the Tottenham dugout. That's how long ago that feels.
That's what we're going for.
I'll go for Brennan's. Brennan's at United with the Van de Vin run. Just because it's an iconic thing to see a center back do that.
Agree.
And the. The fallout from the Man United fans and the Man United media, which is basically what sky is was amazing. Like because you know that Roy Keane hated seeing that for so many reasons and Gary Neville and was brilliant. And it. It gave me those. That reminder of that Bale goal. He scores where he got the. The Dembele assist where he ran past Rio Ferdinand in the 3, 2. Goal of the season goes to Brennan Johnson and I'm assisted. The season then has to go to Mickey Van Deven. That run moment of the season.
So obviously Brendan Johnson's goal.
Yeah, I mean I. I was gonna give you.
But it wasn't actually his goal.
Well and there was a handball in there. I think it would have been a penalty if it didn't go in because I'm pretty sure it came off Shaw's hand. I mean. But the only other one, the hat trick from the kids. That was a lovely moment.
That was. And I. I saw that Mikey Moore recently said. Didn't he. Like I felt like I had to score. It's like Dane scored, Demola scored. You know, like, what am I doing now? Yeah. I think that's a really nice. That's good honorable mention. But there's no way anything else can be our moment of the season. But that un. You go for Mickey's clearance or.
I think that we didn't talk about Kevin Dano's header as well when he came on and powered it away. And what like the 88th minute. That was amazing as well.
Or Kevin Dano's dancing actually could go for moment of the season.
Do you know what? Back in the day we used to do a lot of who would be the biggest liability. Who would be the ch. The spurs players as biscuits type thing. Basuma Madness. All the videos were of Bazuma liability.
That one moment of the season. So can I just chuck in the. The coldest quote of all time by a manager.
Yes, sure.
And he's got a couple there's obviously I always win in my second season and the every good television series season freeze better the season two. They are iconic. During our absolutely iconic things to have said.
I saw someone say that that season three is better than season two is on a par with the special one.
It's just. It's like he believes it. Like he. He genuinely believes it. And there's so that's got to be moment of the season.
I mean, I'm gonna put in very drunk. Hyung Min Son. Tell it like you love you.
I don't know. Sorry if I've said this to you before, but like all I thought watching that was that Sunny has never partied in his life, right? He hasn't, has he? He's been so serious about his football and he's finally won something and so he's like having a proper party.
We've seen that clip which shows Ange going to console him in an Asian cup when Sonny's like 21 and so crying. That. That's a really lovely moment. There's been some really lovely sporting moments. What we do it moment of the season has to be Johnson's. The goal. Johnson's goal.
Yeah.
To win us the. The cup final match of the season. So I'm not giving that to the. I'm not voting for the match of the season as being that final. I've got. I'll tell you what, I've marked some out. We've got. Beating West Ham 41 was pretty good at the beginning of the season. Beating Villa 41 at the beginning of the season. That was pretty good. I've got Manchester United 3 Tottenham Hotspur 4. Remember that one?
But that was crazy cup tie that, wasn't it? That was a great game. Will we. 4 nil up and they come back to 4 three.
We were 3 zero up then they scored two to make it 3 two. Sunny scored in the 88th minute. Johnny Evans scored in the 95th minute.
That was a great game. That was bonkers. That was. That. That was a real, real good game that.
I mean, my View of Spurs vs Manchester United this season is spurs for Manchester United nil in terms of fixtures.
Right? It feels so good for that. It feels so good for the. Because I. For people who listen who have been watching. I've been watching spurs that long. When we beaten for 32 in Fergus last year, I. I ran. I just ran outside and did 10k afterwards because I had so much energy because we never ever, ever won at Old Trafford. Never. It was a foregone conclusion. Man United always, always, always beat Tottenham Hotspur. And so to. To want to get face them in a final because we know we'd beat them is insane to me. It just doesn't fit the narrative like that, lads. It's. Tottenham is a. Was a real thing and then we go and beat them in a European cup final. We beat Southampton 5n in December. I think that was a pretty Good one, Mike.
I think, you know, because this season is all about. Season two is all about overcoming adversity and winning the. The. The cup. For me, it's the Frankfurt game because.
Interesting.
Yeah, because I think that was the one where it was like, if we can beat Frankfurt, whoever wins between that, like, it was like, it's going to win this trophy. And actually what we did or what Ange did in that game was what everybody spent time criticizing, saying he couldn't do, which was adapted and said, actually, what we have to do is be really pragmatic. It was the most pragmatic I've ever seen. An Ange team at a moment when it really mattered. So even though it wasn't the prettiest of games, if we can't include the final, that would be the game of the season for me.
It's. It's a really good show. The only other one I was. The one I was building up to was Manchester City, Neil, Tottenham Hospital. That was a game.
Oh, yeah, sure. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
It doesn't have that sort of. That bigger meaning to it. It just has a. We went and battered them and then they had. They just fell off the cliff, which was really funny. So did we.
We destroyed them in that game. Like, I'd. Even again, I'd forgotten that that was this season. That was.
Yeah, that.
That was like 4 nil. Was a completely fair reflection of the game. Like, it was destruction against one of the best sides we've ever seen. I'd forgotten about that.
And we also decimated this. Like, they went on an absolute, like, misery parade after that, didn't they?
They really did. I think that was Madison's best game of the season for us as well, wasn't it? We haven't talked about him at all in this episode. And it's kind of sad because, tell you what I really respect that man for is how well he handles the media. He's done a great job of leading the team and leading the media. Not letting people have one over him, but not taking it too far, just being really mature. I've been really, really impressed with him as a. Just as a leader and as a part of the squad and how he handled Sunny as well and how he handled the celebrations. I think he's been brilliant.
You want to see characters and a bit of personality, don't you? Like, I've.
I've got.
No. I've got no problem at all with that. I'm still. For me, the jury's still out a little bit on him, but I thought it was great seeing just seeing all of the players get their moment. Do you know what I mean? Because so how many players is it go their whole career and never get a moment. And like to see them all like it was. Was amazing. And like the togetherness in the team is so apparent. That is the other thing that is just so strange from this season is a team that have lost so many games to be that together still. It's.
It.
Everything this season is completely like defied logic, hasn't it?
Like probably though. But like if it's this thing about January is actually the thing, then that was the strategy. And you can imagine when you've got like if that's the strategy and. But you're obviously not talking about it publicly and you really feel that sense of we're in this together. It's like batting down the hatches.
Yeah.
This is what we're doing. So you know that. So therefore that release at the end of it. Unbelievable.
Much of the season. Then we, we vote.
I'm gonna go for the City one. The four nil against City.
Do you know what I came in with the City one. But Chris, you've convinced me. Well, Chris, you've got the deciding vote.
Oh well, I'm gonna back myself.
Change your mind, Chris.
But interestingly, because I'd forgotten about the City game and also that my football philosophy is not about pragmatism, it's about hell for leather glory. You know, like classic. Like I'd much rather, you know, win four three than win one nil because, you know, like who you know. Yeah, but I think it was. It was the thing that basically took us that. That showed us we could win that trophy, which is. Was like obviously the time of our season. So.
Right. Poorest performance or worst game of the season. Get ready. I'm going to give you some results. 63 loss against Liverpool at home in December. That one really hurt. 4 nil in the League cup when we were one that up from the first leg. I'm gonna give you 51 against Liverpool. They've scored a lot of goals against us this season. I'm gonna give you. I hated the 41 to Brighton after going 1 nil up after the win in the final. What else have we got? Anything else?
Just the defeats to Arsenal.
Well, they weren't by big amounts though.
But it was, it was 1 nil. We lost at home. Yeah, that home game was. I hated every second of that because that was just like we did. We didn't get beaten badly. We just Got, like, completely controlled. That was what was the most pain. That was what was painful. Like they scored and it was sort of like, that's it. Like, we're not going to be able to break it down. We're not going back to school. I always think any defeat to Arsenal, especially at home, is always up there for me as worst, worst games of the season.
The other two I've got the Leicester loss, the two one at home and Jamie Vardy. I. I really hate that. Yeah.
Yeah, me too, actually. That might be it for me, to be fair.
Awful. The one I would always complain about is the Tamworth performance. Even though we won.
Like, you know what? That's. That's the worst game of the season. Without a doubt. Without a doubt.
You know, that's my vote.
I sort of love the. I sort of loved it, but that's only because I love the FA cup and I just love the fact that the. The. The narrative was all about the bloke from Zara that nearly scored.
Yeah, And I love that. I just hate that it was against us.
Yeah, yeah, that's true. That is true. Well, you're both voting Tamworth, aren't you, so. Doesn't really matter why. That's fine.
I'm going yet. Any other categories? Any. Any. Any. Anything. The feeling at the end of the season was. Was something that we all said. We all predicted. Jack, you said you. What you wanted was consistency. We were consistent. It's not what you meant, but we were consistent. You said we. We wanted us to see us win. Us win the derbies. You said, though, you wanted us to concede fewer than last season because we conceded 61. We only conceded 64 this season. Yeah, I. It's. I want to see.
Just before you do yours, do you have what we said when Ange was first appointed?
No, I've only got this year. How about fair enough? I've got. I've got what the goal. What we said the goal difference would be. What do we finish on? Minus one, I think. Yeah. Jack, you said 24. I said 25. And Rob, Rob, Rob just says. Just plus. I said players improved. We saw the young bed in. We definitely saw that. And I didn't want to feel naive anymore. And we definitely saw pragmatism from him. So I think 2, 2 out 3 ain't bad. Like me said, players improved. I'm not sure we saw many of them improve, but we saw good performances.
I think we saw the young players grow, didn't we? And it's really accelerated all of Them this season, everything they've experienced, even the ones that weren't as involved like, you think of players like Will Lanier that played away in Galatasaray, scored, got sent off, then went on loan to West Brom. Like, he's had a really like, good season of development. So I think everyone that's been involved with spurs in any capacity has, has done well. But some of the youngsters we've had out on loan as well, that maybe they'll get a crack next year. They might not. But, you know, Jamie Donnelly is absolutely torn up at Orion. Looks great. It was gutting that they couldn't get over the line because that would have been brilliant to see Oren in the championship that wasn't to be. So I think all of them have had a season of growth in a. In a weird way. Normally you. You'd sort of assume if a young player's done well, they've broke in and they've, you know, the team's done well and all that. But it sort of worked the other way around.
They've.
They've got in, they've done well individually, but the team's found it difficult.
So let me ask you this. If you could get a new central sort of defensive midfielder, a new center back to replace Romero and a new attacker to replace son or replace the manager, which one you have in.
So this.
So if you get in a spine, you get three players who are the spine of the team. Defense, defensive, defensive midfielder, and a sunny replacement or replace the manager.
Why can't we have nice things?
I'm trying to be.
Replace the manager. I'll just take a new spine.
Okay, easy.
I don't know. I don't know. That's such a horrible question. I'd probably say I'm gonna, I'm gonna sort of answer your question, but sort of not answer it. I can't work out what I want to happen if I'm completely honest with you. Like, I, I, like before the final, I was so adamant that the manager's not it. Like he's proven he's not good enough. And it's like everything still points towards that, but like when it really, really, really mattered, he got it done. And like I'm struggling with the heart versus head thing that that's what's so difficult here. Because logically, if this was. If this was another club, if this was Fulham and they'd had this season, you'd be like, you're brilliant. Well done. You've won it. That you've got to Carry that manager like. Like he's. He could take you down, like, that's how poor you've been. But, like, I can't step out of the fact that that spurs and I. I can only imagine the situation that Levy's in where he's got to make this call. And, like, the more I thought about that, I actually think the only way that Levy can come out of this looking good is that he keeps ang and Ange does well. Because, like, if he sacks Ange, brings someone new in and that new manager does well, he'll still get stick. Or it was Angie's team and got us there. If he sacks Ange, bring someone's new, bring someone new in. They do poor, obviously will get slaughtered. And then it's like if he. If he keeps ang and he does badly, he'll get slaughtered because, look, everything's shown. He's not there. So I think the only thing he can do where he comes out of this looking good is that he keeps him and he does well. But whether or not he does that is another question. So if I had to answer your question, asd right now, today, I would say keep the manager and give me a new spine. But I think it's. I think that's my heart talking because, like, it's not convincing. It's not being convincing at any point. I don't know.
It's convincing last season when he got us fifth and they didn't have all those injuries.
I don't know if he was convincing, though.
The players are into him.
The players are. And that's the thing that. That's the thing to. To have. To have gone through everything that this team's gone through this season, and at no point has there been anything about. The players want him gone. The players have Dan Tools. You see it, don't you? You can see it as a fan. You watch a game, the team's losing and you can see players not trying. And that's when you go, just a matter of time. The manager's out the door and we haven't seen that. So he's managed two, which is incredible leadership. Keep everyone together despite everything that's been going on and all the noise outside. And you have to say to him, that is to have done that, like, what other managers can do that. I've not seen that before. Normally it just gets too much. Do you know what I mean? And there's a change made. So I don't. I don't know what. I don't know what I want to happen I would love, I would love for us to keep him. And he does well, he gets a proper go at it next season. The players stay fit and we can truly judge him because it does feel harsh with the amount of injuries he's had this year. I'm just not convinced if he's the guy to take us to the next level. I'm not sure.
It's an interesting one, isn't it? Because you know my feelings from the beginning of the season. Yeah, I think he's earned the opportunity to give it a go. He's won a European trophy for us, like, he's earned that. Seventeenth is unacceptable. I haven't told anybody this. When the final whistle went, I felt nothing. Emma looked at me and she went, andrew, you're so flat. And the 17th is unacceptable. And we did six shows at the end of the season where you said, jack, you went, I can see us not getting any points from the last six games and we didn't. And the fact that that became acceptable for me was unacceptable, that accepting of a loss. And there is a process, but look where it's got Arsenal. Arsenal have been in a process and be building a project for three years and it's, they're no closer to winning anything, really. And it, it's, it's not acceptable to finish 17th, it's not acceptable to finish 15th, but the one position above relegation is, is not acceptable. But he won a European trophy against.
Exactly, exactly. You can't ignore it. You can't ignore it. Everyone says, I'll take that aside. You finish 17th. Yeah, you can't take it aside. It's part of the season.
But it's also relational. Like, they're not unrelated. I mean, it's still, it's still not. We still shouldn't be finishing 17th, don't get me wrong. Like 11th, you might have thought, but it's not, you know, but also, like, for me, no disrespect to Thomas Frank or Andonia Iola, but, like, that's not any, like, what good is that going to do us? If they were saying Luis Enrique wants to come and, like, manage at spurs, then I might say, yeah, fair enough, like, because that's an upgrade, whatever, whichever way you cut it. Right. But although, you know. Yeah, and an upgrade and a current upgrade, not like old school upgrades like the ones we tried last time, but it's not so. And he's going to bring Desiree do away with him.
I, I, I, like, I, Thomas Frank would be a safe appointment and I've no doubt Whatsoever. If Thomas Frank was in charge of spurs next season, we would be in the mix for the European spots, Europa Conference. An absolute maximum push. We might be battling for sort of top four, battling for it. And I think Thomas Frank would bring significantly more consistency. I think what you would see with him would be the same types of wins and the same types of defeats. You'd beat the, the sides around you and probably the sides below you. You'd struggle against the teams just above you and you'd get beat by the top sides because that's pretty much what, what he does. So it would bring consistency to the team for a couple of seasons. But like in the nicest way. I really like Thomas Frank. I think he's done an amazing job at Brentford with such limited resources. So he also fits the Levy manager from that perspective as well.
But.
What'S the point? What's what? What's the point of it?
How many managers have we had?
I thought the game is about glory.
Right?
Exactly.
We're there.
If you offered me next season, 17th and another cup victory, I'd probably take it.
If, if.
I'd probably take it, mate.
If he was relegated and we won the Champions League, I'd want him gone. But we're still in the Premier League.
Okay, so next, next season we win the Champions League and we go down or we just finish sixth. All right, Are we finished? We finished third.
What's their my options? Third or relegated in a Champions League? Yeah, well, obviously relegating the Champions League games about glory and we'd fire the manager.
The game is about glory.
And then you get Ryan Mason in because he's just done well at West Brom in 12 months time. So.
Yeah. Well then let's wrap this up. I'm looking forward to season 15 next year. Can you give us a. Can you each give us a sign off as a. Just to review the season. Give us a sentence to review the season and what your hopes are for next season.
I would. Season 15. Next year.
Season 15.
So, I mean, in the words of Ange, all the great television shows, season 15 is better than season 14.
Be fair. Season 15 of Grey's Anatomy was a good one.
It's a season that we will never forget. Ever, ever. For the amazing highs and the ridiculous lows, this will always be a season that in 20, 30, 40 years we look back and go, do you remember that year we won the Europa league and finished 17th? Could it have been more appropriate for it to have been Spurs? That, that, that will be how I'll Always look back on this season. We always said it 17th and the trophy. We take it and it happened. I think that's perfect.
Johnson. That's my summary of the season and my hope for next season is winning the Champions League and not getting relegated.
It's a big. I mean, we can only.
Champions league and 16th.
Yeah.
Yeah.
What a season.
It's a massive improvement. I. It's been very painful. It's. This is. It's been quite difficult in terms of my values and what I think about this club, but seeing the parade and seeing how together everyone was and just feeding that. That first sunlight in a. You know, the. The night is always dark. It's just before the dawn and we've had the dawn now and I'm looking forward to next season. Now, you know, we've come close to stopping the podcast a couple of times because we've. What new things have we had to say? Right. But in our 15th year, we've got something to say and we've got something to talk about and we've got. It can only be different to this year. I hope Ben Davis either gets a send off or a new contract because he's been a very, very low servant. I'm so glad to see Sunny lift the trophy and I just. I'm looking forward to next season already. I think there's a good.
Can I just say, asd Ben Davis. That's got a free transfer to West Broc written all over it, isn't it?
Yeah. Or somewhere in London like.
Go. Go and play like Ryan Mason can. Manager. Go and play for your mate for your final year.
Oh, mate, he will. I think he'd much rather retire and just be a manager somewhere or just be coach.
So can I also just say how amazing it's been that this has been the first cup we've won in the. In the years of the pod 14. Soon to be 15 years. It's the first trophy.
Yeah. Yeah. We did all the semis, we did all the finals that we've done. We've beaten them together. We've had ix, we've had finals against Chelsea, we've had all sorts. Europa League.
We made it.
Yeah. Right. I want to say a massive thank you to you two. You know how much I love you too. I'm looking forward to seeing you every week next, next year, next season. And I feel like we've been telling them for 14 years that the future was bright and the future was lily white. So I think we can sign this one off with I told you so.
Come on, you Spurs.
Come on, you Spurs.
Come on, you Spurs. I always thought there was very, very many people interested in football. And I always thought that football was a very important game. But I never realize until today just how important it is.
Whether the wonder boys of Pieteart Lane are or are not the team of the century can't possibly be more than a matter of opinion.
Well, they're the finest team in Great.
Britain and one of the best in the world.
We are about the glory of the game. We are about playing with style. We are Tottenham Hotspur. The curve of the ball, the billow of the net. The beating of the trap and the picking of the lock. The swiftness of thought, the lightness of touch. We are Gineler, Greaves, Klinsman. We are the collective gods. The intake of breath, the flick, the trick. The 30 yard free kick. We are Hoddle, Mabbit and King. We are the lob, the chip, the dummy and the volley. We are the hat trick. The scissor kick. We are Bill Nick.
That is schoolboy's own stuff.
We are the outside of the boot, the inside of the net. And those seconds that last forever.
Vanderva to level it up. Raphael Vandervaert. Two, two. It's quite a game, isn't it always?
We are Jennings Defoe and Perryman. Glory past, glory future. What was, what is, what's next? We are Blanchflower, Ardelis and Bale. We are about winning with a flourish. We are about winning with style. We are about the glory of the game. Daring to try, daring to risk, Daring to dream, to dare is to do.
Fantastic scene here. It's all over, Dun. Really stubborn. Going all the way again here. And Leonard's kicked him out. Oh, this is incredible. This is quite incredible. Tr of glory, glory, glory day for Tottenham Hotspur.
