Episode of the 'Echoes of Glory' podcast (S15E10) where hosts Rob and Joe review a difficult Tottenham week after losses to Newcastle and Chelsea, defend manager Thomas Frank's record, note improved defensive form (fewer goals conceded), and express concern over the attack and new signing Shavi Simons. They preview upcoming fixtures (Copenhagen, Manchester United), discuss league context (17 points from 10 games, currently 5th), and share travel/anecdotal scenes from watching football abroad.
Really stubborn. Going all the way again here. And Leonard's kicked him out. Oh, this is incredible. This is quite incredible. Truly a glory, glory day for Tottenham Hotzma.
Hi, guys, I'm Andrey Villas Boas, listening.
To Echoes of Glory. And don't forget, whatever happens, the future is bright.
Future is lily white.
Come on, your Spurs.
Hello and welcome to Echoes of Glory. I'm asd.
And I'm Jack.
And here we are. We talked about two games and we've had two pretty dire performances and we've lost great games.
Not a great week.
We're not going to be talking about.
We've had better. What's your favor? Color. But this is what makes the pod, right? This is what we've been so used to for two years is just not talking about football. It was a tough week, though.
Was tough week. Like the. The Newcastle game was rough and Chelsea was pretty dire. It. It just. But I don't think it was unpredictable. But people already like saying, oh, they're all pissed off with Thomas Frank, which for me is insane because you go, we finished 17th last season. We're fourth. We've got the most open goal, goals from open play. All of this stuff.
Can I just say what's mad at. Is that I'm seeing him. A lot of stuff about. Ah, at least with Ange, we were having a go.
No, no, no, no, no.
We cannot. We cannot be having this conversation. Surely, I was thinking, surely, surely people aren't going, oh, it was better when we were losing. What?
Every week there's a brilliant documentary on Netflix which is about two twin brothers. I can't remember what it's called. It's really miserable.
This is the analogy.
Yeah, yeah. And it's called something like, Tell me who I am. It's called. It's. Tell me who I am. It's about these two twins. Two twins, Those twins. And one of them had a motorcycle accident and lost his memory. And so he couldn't remember anything and so had to rely on his brother. And so his brother was showing photos and built up this picture of what his childhood was like. But actually there's a major twist in the middle where he was. Both of them were horrifically abused. So his brother decided to rebuild his childhood memory so he didn't remember any of it.
Okay.
And that happened. Like you can lose your memory with trauma and you just remember the nice pictures. So you see son lifting the trophy. I think it's a great. That's a great metaphor as well, because, you know, when son's Lifting the trophy. Have you seen? He's got this massive bruise across his head because before he lifts the trophy, someone has smacked him on the back and he's headbutted the trophy. And so you can see in the celebrations, he's got this huge bruise. That is the metaphor. Like he was beaten before he got to lift the trophy. And you've got to remember, like, people go, oh, you know, Ange ball. Ange ball wasn't a thing. There was no consistent pattern of play. There was no way of doing things. There was no connection between defense, midfield and striking. It was, do your best. And we were lucky because we had Young Min son.
Frankly, we lost 22 league matches. 22.
22 league matches. That's not acceptable.
Like, I saw. I saw something is that we're on 17 points at the moment from the first 10 games. We're almost halfway to last season's total points tally.
Yeah, it blows my mind. Yeah, the matches were awful. We've also got like a full 11 out of, @ the moment, of almost creative players.
We're fifth.
Oh, we're fifth at the moment.
We're fifth. Look, I cannot. So what I'd say is I get the frustrations off the back of losing what feels like at home again. It just feels like we always lose at home. And look, the Chelsea game is always rough. I don't know if you saw the stat they put up on Sky Sports before the game, which was it's something like six wins out of like 80 or whatever we've had against. So it's like not to be defeated, but, like, this is a game we're used to losing. Like, we're just used to losing it. So it's like, look, I don't just want to be like, oh, it's Chelsea's defeat. But, like, that is what happens. We're sitting fifth in the league. We've got a near an identical record to Chelsea. I understand people are going, oh, but we haven't really had too many difficult fixtures, like. No, but you still got to pick the points up. And he's averaging 1.7 points a game. That will get you, what, 65 points at the end of the season, give or take. That will be in the mix for a Champions League spot this season. So I just think it's. It's horrible when you lose the derbies, especially at home. He was really disappointed going out to Newcastle. I didn't think that we were that bad against Newcastle, if I'm totally honest with you. I thought that we. We created A lot of opportunities without creating a shot, if you get what I mean. Like we got into some really dangerous areas and you were like, oh, is that final ball? And it just, it just wasn't there. The Chelsea game was a difficult one to take because we, we were quite sloppy at the back. That's the first time this season I felt defensively we didn't look in control. I think a lot of that's due. I think Chelsea set up really well and like sometimes you just have to go, you know what? We just found it difficult in that game and, and like that, that is what it is. Van Den has been amazing this year. He had a really tough game. Had a really, really tough game. And that, you know what, it happens sometimes. So I'm not going to be too, you know, too down about it all. We've got a lot of games coming up. Like we've got, we've got a massive week this week with Copenhagen tomorrow night and then Man United on Saturday at lunchtime. Like I feel like we need, we, we need a good win against United at home on Saturday. Do you know what I mean? We just, that we need like a 2 nil and just beat them. Well just to give us a little bit of momentum back. Two home games if you can get two wins and you know, I think everyone then will just calm down a little bit. But I think the, there's been such an overreaction. Like honestly this week I just, I, I, I can't. Like I'm looking at the league table and like I said, we're sat in fifth. 17 points from 10 games. Doing all right. Same points tally as Chelsea. A point behind Liverpool. Two points behind City. Like it's, it's not disastrous. It's a really, really tight league at the moment and like you lose two league games on the bounce, you can find yourself like Newcastle 13th. Newcastle aren't a bad team. They haven't got a bad man. They've, they've just lost, lost three out of their last five. And the 13th they're not, they're not going, let's get rid of the manager. Like it's just, I think we've just got to look at everyone's accumulating a similar amount of points and there's this mini league forming basically between like city in second all the way down to Newcastle in 13th. There's only seven points between those sides, right. So you've, you've only got to lose two on the bounce or win two on the bounce and you can jump right up The L. Like, in two league games, Newcastle might be above us, which feels mad that how can the team in 13th be above us in two games? But then on the flip side, we could be second into. So it's really, really tight. And I think the whole season looks like it's going to be a little bit like this, that you've just sort of got to hold your nerve. You're going to have a couple of bumps, like it's fine. And I just. I feel a little bit sorry for Thomas Frank because again, you look back to last season, of what we did do well last season was we scored a lot of goals last year, right. We were. We were good going forward mainly because we had so many people in attack all the time. But if you look at the people who actually contributed to our goals last season, what were they? Son? Solanke, Madison, Kulasevsky and Johnson. They were basically our scorers. Yeah. Four out of those five are not there. They're just gone. Do you know what I mean? They're injured or they've sold them. Johnson's the only one that's there and obviously he's not being selected and I can sort of understand why he's not. So you. You're saying to a manager, you're coming in, taking over a team that's absolutely rattled. They finished 17th.
Yes.
They've had the high of a Europa League win. I'm going to take the attack out of that team, like, and not really bring anybody in that can.
That.
That can hit the ground running straight away. Like, I think he's doing a pretty good job to have a SAT in fifth, if I'm totally honest with you. And I know the football at home hasn't been fantastic to watch so far, but for me it's so obvious what he's doing. He's sorting the back line out, which he. Which he is doing like eight goals conceded in 10 games. We've got the third best defense in the league. He's sorted the back line out so far, which is fantastic with the four defenders. And then Paulina and Bensky sorted that out. He's now trying to get that free behind the striker going. He's trying different combinations most games, like, that's what he's now working on. So, like, let's give him a little bit of time to work on it.
Yeah. To me, like, I think spurs fans have got a history of overrating their team as well, because you go look at the squad, really look at the squad for Cario. Where is he in terms of the. The goalkeepers in the league, you know, fourth, fifth maybe he's a. I think he's very good keeper. Then you go first choice center back, pairing up there with the best in the league. Other than that we don't have anyone who's up there with the top four. So with that we'll lose games and this what we want is someone to come in, give that team structure, give it some resilience and you build from there. We're going to lose games like we. We're good.
I'll tell you what's the about. Just about the squad was in the current. The current situation we're in. I watched a game of my brother at the weekend and we actually went through all the teams in the Premier League and we said what attacking players out of those sides would you take? And like wolves we were like you'd probably have the lad Strand Larson, the big lump up top. He's not but. But you probably have him. We're like Nottingham Forest a million percent. You take Chris Wood like West Ham, okay. There's probably not anyone there. You'd have Bowen maybe somewhere but maybe you'd have Paquetta in there.
Who wants to leave in January. Who we were linked with in the.
Summer and we were like Burnley, probably not Leeds, probably not Everton. We definitely have Grealish in the attack in. In some capac. That. That's probably about it. And then we were like even like Fulham you'd probably have like Rao Jimenez as your number nine. Do you know what I mean? I know he's like 34 foot but like you'd probably have him like Newcastle, they've got. They've got some great attacking players. Like you'd have pretty much all of their front line. Brentford, their center forward. Thiago's like second top school. You'd million percent have him. Village you take what you probably take. Watkins Rogers, there's a couple at Villa like. But the point being that we went through that and we were like actually there's one or two players from pret every side where you're like their attackers would start. So like that's what. That's what Frank's working with. So I just think it's a little bit about perspective and thinking back to before a ball was kicked this season I had us to finish seventh and we're slightly overperforming on that at the moment. So like I get it. I get the frustrations that people are like oh but like you can't get success instantly. Like do you know What I mean. And when. When we've got an attacking lineup, what we're fielding at the minute is difficult. It's really difficult for him to. Yeah, I get the point of could he be more open and expansive in midfield at home? Maybe he can be, but he's trying different combinations at the moment. Do you know what I mean? It's not as if he's just playing the same 11. He likes Benson, Corn, Palina. I don't have much of a problem with that as a midfield pair, to be honest. It's the. It's the front four that is just not quite clicking at the minute. And Shavi Simons again, we've got to give him time. But it's a bit of a worry early on.
What.
You know, like, it doesn't look fantastic that he just doesn't look at it yet. And then look, he's. It's good technical play because he's got a good touch and all of that. Like. But it worries me. It just worries me that teams are just like completely just stopping him. Yeah. Like, whatsoever. Like, with relative ease. So, yeah, that's where I'm at with it. Like, I'm quite calm. I think the biggest thing for me is, as we said at the start of the season, so far, there's been zero surprises either way. And I'm happy with that. I'm quite happy with that at the moment. Like I said, we're winning the games we should win and we're losing the games we probably should lose so far. And if that runs its course this season, where we are in the league, I think we'll be there or thereabouts.
At the end of the season, and that is an improvement on last season and that's what we want.
But I do take people's point of the football's not been great to watch. And I was like, yeah, I get that. I get that. But he. He sort of has. I feel like he's had to. He needs to have done that because he's got a sort of defense out, like, and the only way sort of defense that is just making your team a little bit less expensive and behind.
And that's the point, isn't it? Sorting your defense out isn't about just landing on a back four. It's about how the team plays. And you build from there. You stop. You stop conceding first and foremost. Yeah. And obviously we've lost, but we've looked really good in defense. And, you know, Everton was only a couple like a week ago and we looked Amazing in defense there. Yeah.
And I had a few people saying, oh, you know, against Everton, we didn't look great. And it's like we went. We went away from home in the Premier league and won 3 nil.
Like in the grounds where no one's won yet.
I'm just. But I'm just a little bit like, if you win 3 nil away in the Prem against anybody, you've got to have played well. Like, you know, so I, I'm a little bit torn between. Of, like, I don't. I think your point about expectations is probably it. I think people have gone, oh, like, I think we all still think that we're like a Champions League side. Do you know what I mean? Like, through the League. Like, we're. We're one of the best sides in the League and it's like, we're not, but we're really not that. We haven't been that for a while. So where we are is a good start. I just think it's about that there's going to be mass panic if we lose the next two. Like, the League table will have us in the bottom half and people will be going, oh, look, we're in the bottom half. And it's like, yeah, we are. But like, it's such. It's such a tight league that you've just gotta relax with it a little bit.
That's exactly it. We finished 17th. Look, we finished 17th last year. We conceded 65 goals. Like, it. Anything is an improvement.
We're on track to, like, concede half that at the moment in the League. So, you know, you do have to look at that stuff, didn't you, and go, okay, so that's where. That's where I'm at. But opportunity this week for us to bounce back. Like, if we can get a couple of wins this week, then it's looking really good again.
Yeah. And that's it. I think we have to be prepared for that psg, Arsenal week, because we are going to concede. Arsenal might only be a 1 nil, maybe a 2 nil, but we're going to lose that.
Like, Arsenal will be a suffocation, unfortunately.
That's it. And it. Look, we know exactly what's going to happen. People. I think people go, oh, we played well because we had the ball a bit. And they, they'll go, no, they'll go one nil up and then they just won't concede. We won't have a shot on target. And they'll go, oh, you know, we. We had the Ball. We could have created more chances. We. We will never be in. We won't have the chance of doing that.
The only world where we honestly look at it and go, we get something in that Arsenal game is we defend brilliantly and we get the first goal. That's the only world, like, if they get the first one, I win coming back like, you okay? No, no one can score against them. No one can even have a shot at the moment. So it's like. Like, realistically, you're like, oh, try and get Neil nil. You know what I mean? I just. It's awful at the moment, but I.
So what we've just said is, as a team is brilliant in defense, not particularly brilliant in attack, but they find ways to get goals with set pieces and they've sort shored up their defense and now they're probably going to win.
The League even more. They've shored up the defense even more so than last season. Like, do you know what I mean? You look at it and go, there couldn't have been more defensive and last year, because then it's like, yeah, so it's going to be. Gonna be a tough one. But you never know in football. You know, it's the hope that kills us.
We have to beat Copenhagen and we have to beat Man United. That Man United game is massive now.
Yeah, it is a big one, the Copenhagen one. We need to. We need to get a win there because then that'll bounce us onto eight points from the first four games. And like, that's. That's looking good.
Yeah.
Do you know what I mean? Two phone wins, two away draws. That's, you know, that's really good. And yeah, I just think United's one of them. Like, the pessimist in me is always like, oh, like, would a draw be disastrous night? Wouldn't be, but we need to just win that game just to. In a way, just to shut up people that I'm a little bit. You know what I mean? Just like, just relax.
Like, you know, we should be beating them as well. Let me. I'll have a look at the odds. But we should be beating Copenhagen, so that would be exciting.
Again, I think it will be similar to that Villarreal game ast, where they'll come, they'll be organized, they'll be technically quite good. I could honestly see us just grinding out at 1 nil and people going, oh, but it's like, you know, just gotta get the results.
We are one to three to win. They are nine to one to it.
Who did that. Who even plays for Copenhagen? Is there anyone in that side that we know just had that up?
So their most valuable player is Mukoku, who's on loan from Dortmund. Is that right?
I don't know him, but. So there's. We're not looking at. You know, it should. We've just got to be confident and convincing going into that. Tomorrow night then.
Yeah, exactly. These are. Then it's a Nordic country then. They're not in it to win it. But they will be doing as much as they can. They're still fight. They're fourth in their league at the minute. It's. It's right. We should be playing them. Yeah. Can I tell you. Talking of Nordic football, can I tell you about my experiences? I went to Valaranga versus Bodo. Glimped on Saturday 4:30 kickoff. Went to the Intimity arena which is about 16,000 people. And it was great, man. It was raining horrifically and turned up. It was so easy to get in, man. No bag checks, no nothing. It was families everywhere, which was really nice. There was no ag with the Bodo Glimp fans. So I was sat on right next to the halfway line in the. The cheap stand. 18 quid. There was the expensive stand opposite the west end which. Which is always boring. Always the west end. And on my left was the Ultras. They call themselves the clan who were like flags and singing the entire time. Like whatever happened. They were singing the entire time and they. They called it the Clannon. And then they've got the mini canon where if you brought your kids, they've got a. To the bottom right by the corner flag where you leave your kids there. And then you. You go and do that stuff. And then Bodo had the entire stand to our right which isn't normal. But because there's loads of northern Norwegians in Oslo, they went there and they were singing most of the time. But Valeriano were just promoted last year. So they. They've just come up. But they beat them three one and quite convincingly. The guys I spoke to, the guys next to me who were two season ticket holders who just moved from the clan and bit to the. The Our bit so they could sit down basically. Yeah, they were great chats. But they were. They spent half the time literally these are season tickets of Valeranga half the time on fancy Premier League looking at the results. And they had the premier league results coming up on their watches. Like they love the Premier league and they told me every single scorers that came in. Man United fans. Because Of Solsier. They told me that they saw valoranga get relegated two years ago standing in the clan. And it was minus 13 degrees Celsius, right? And it went extra time and penalties. And I was like, I would have gone like, there is no way.
Yeah, that was cold. We were only talking the other week when we. About the coldest game we've been at. They win, they win.
They just win. I asked them if it was a plastic pitch and they went, we're in Norway. Of course it's a plastic pitch. And like. Because they couldn't have grass there.
Yeah.
That was interesting though. Bodo kicked off the first half and they. With the kickoff, they kicked it straight out. I've never seen it before. And then Valeranga kicked it over to the goalkeeper of Bodo. So they kicked it out and gave it back. I don't understand why nobody photo kicked.
Off and like put it in the Valoringa like, corner.
No, they kicked the halfway line in front of me. And so it was a throw in. And then Valerian could give it straight back. And I've got zero idea.
Nobody around me because I'm like, teams are starting certain now and they're kicking off and just launching it and giving the opposition a throw. But like deep in their own half defending. It's like just an awkward one to defend early on, but that's doing.
If I was petty, you know, Arsenal, there's all this, oh, they haven't had a shot on. They haven't conceded a shot on target in 200.
Halfway line. You said your. Your mate used to play FIFA with.
First thing on FIFA just. Just to annoy him also. Yeah, just.
Just while we're sorry, finish up. It was a good vibe and a good atmosphere and all that. How good is it watching football abroad?
Oh, I loved it because it was just. It was nice not to be invested in it. I was supporting Valorant and they won, which was great. It was a good game. Like, no one was amazing. They've got a good defensive midfielder called Ambina. They've, you know, they've got some good players, but you could see the difference. The speed was good, but tell you what, they always took too many touches before shooting. Like they. That was the big difference. They passed it around the box too much. Where premier league players would shoot first touch. They were really specifically taking too many chances, which is really noticeable. The two guys I sat next to were then were like, there's an ice hockey game afterwards. And so I went to some ice hockey, which was mad. I've never seen Ice hockey before, I've always wanted to. And when I got up to date with the rules, it made more sense. Like the offside and icing. Like you're not allowed to shoot from behind the halfway line effectively because it just stops you just lumping it down there. And it was good. It was aggressive. It looked knackering, man.
Were there many scraps?
Two. And there was a guy lost a tooth. Like, he, he was on the other side of the arena. Yeah. I think he got a stick in the mouth and then he just sort of came stumbling across and just dripping blood across the ice. And he had to stop it, scrape the ice, get that bit the ice, slush off. So it was good, man, but it just, it was just a different way of life like that. It's not something I'd ever think about, but you could tell there were season ticket holders, people going, families again. It was, it was very nice guy. I was sat next to like a granddad taking his granddaughter, but like older granddaughter.
It's just good, fun sport abroad. There's just something different about it. I'm, I, I'm going at the end of this month to Real Miyoka against Osasuna.
Yes. That's what it's about.
Like, do you know what I mean? 2:00pm kickoff on a Saturday, flying out there in the morning, go to the game. But like, brilliant. It's just so good. So, so good. Yeah. Yeah. You can't beat it, can you?
No, no. That's good. Right. We had two bits of homework. We got the, the group of players who we've seen live who were a bit Tottenham y bit Spursy. So I don't like flawed genius because sometimes they're just, they're okay middle of the road plays and then your one. What was your one?
My one Come off the back of. I, I really rate Kevin Danto and I just think he's been doing such a great job since we've brought him in at, like, he knows he's not first choice. Like, he knows he's coming as the third choice center back. Like, he's a backup player. And every time he's come in, I just feel like he's done really well. And I, I think people maybe underestimate how difficult it must be knowing that first knowing you the backup and then being like, I need you for 10 minutes in this game, or I need you for two games, or recently it's like, actually I need you for like five or six games on the trot. But as soon as Romero's Back you're out. Like he's doing a great job at playing that role. And it just then got me thinking about, you know, he's got to be up there as one of the best back intentional backup players that we've had for quite some time. So obviously put it out on our group chat to just be like players that have been signed as a backup who's been brilliant, which is an interesting one. And there was. There were definitely a few like defensive players like Kevin Vima came up as one. It's like he just basically didn't play and then didn't for Tongan get injured and he came in for 15 games or whatever was. Was great and we were all like, wow, like this guy looks brilliant. And then we sold him, didn't we Were a bit like, oh look, he looked good. And then it turned out actually wasn't that great. He just, he. He just did really well. Well during that period. So yeah, there was a question put about out about who. Who are the best backup players that. That we've had genuine backup. So there was obviously a good point raised which was sometimes we'll sign someone that's meant to be a first team and then they end up as backup. So yeah. What were your. What were your thoughts on that?
Well, when is it? A while ago. We had too many strikers and I wasn't sure whether this counted because there was a time where we had. At the same time we had Defoe, Keane, Crouch and Pavlyachenko and I'm not sure if any of them like Defoe wouldn't be a backup. I would argue Keenan Crouch would. I'd argue Path was the backup there and he could smash him in. Yeah, maybe. But the one for me is Cruncher like that. That was the one. Because there was all the rumors at the time that his dad was a sports. He was a coach or something. So Cruncher knew that his was on. On the bench was to support the team and he always came on and just did the right thing. Scored. There was two se. Two games in a row at the end of a season. One of them was against Birmingham. One of them was away against like Sunderland or it was a red and white team where he is identical smashed in from the edge of the box at the end of the season to help us push on. But he was, he was brilliant. Is when we had all the Croatians. Good looking boy as well. Can't. Can't not mention that. But I think that's the franchise was my favorite backup player.
Yeah. Yeah. It's just an interesting one, isn't it? Because normally you don't sign that many players for that role. The best backup player that we never had was Leonardo Daniel. Remember he's the. He's the best backup that's never played. Which is different to your question. So yeah, good. A good one anyway. And then your. Your fault last week was then about an 11 or players that should have played for spurs because of their style but just never have.
So I went through and have a look at every player of every game I've seen for spurs, every opposition player. I've got three who I've got. I just wanted to see him play for spurs because how amazing they were. So it's got nothing to do with how spurs that they are just. They're just some of the best players I've ever seen. And then I don't have a left back so I couldn't find one that was spurs enough.
I've. I've basically just got all like wingers or number 10. They're the players that I'm like yeah, you've got all the ability in the world. Didn't quite do it. Should have played for spurs at some point.
That's it. So I think David De Gea was a bit Spursy because I think spurs we underrate in the modern age. We underestimate our goalkeepers. Hugo Lariss, one of the best goalkeepers in the world but I don't think he's got the respect of spurs fans that he should have. Yeah, yeah. I think De Gea similarly at Man United. I just don't think he had enough respect. I think he was actually a brilliant keeper then I've got a right back, Michael Richards because he is a gobshi and he retired very young and I can't. He's. He's everywhere. Right. His brand is bigger than his football career and he was good but he was. He wasn't brilliant. Like he wasn't part of the Man City title winning teams that we think about. He was. He was on the part. He was a stepping stone. Like Zabaletta was a better player. Yeah, I can see him playing for spurs and being quite good. Yeah, I get that daily blind blend.
He's like the only defender I've got such a Spurs player.
Right.
Like so nice on the ball and all that and it's like. But can you head it not really. Should have played for Spurs. He would have. Can I say he would have been an amazing addition. A back three of daily Blynn, Davidson, Sanchez and Ben Davis in a really, really unknown away Europa League game where the ball's been given away and they're sprinting back to their own goal. He would fit that image perfectly.
Gave me a horrific flashback to that Stevenage away game where we played three center backs, five at the back.
It was just those. It was those European games. We've got a ball on the halfway line and we just pass it straight to them and they're in. And you're like, can I just. As a start thing, I saw another brilliant thing on Twitter this week, which is spurs have to be the. I've seen this a couple of times, but spurs have to be the only team in the world that you'll be watching the game on tv. It will cut to a replay. It will come off the replay and the opposition team will be in.
And.
You'Re like, what's happened? Like, it will go from like us having a corner. They'll show a replay. It'll cut back to the live game and they're in. And you just think, what's happened?
You. You again give me flashbacks. That fabricast goal, we just run through the middle of something.
It's just. It's entertainment and it's best. Daily Blend. He was. He's the only defender that I've got. Oh no, actually I have one other which was. This is like. He was. He was a good player, but I could just see it. Amrick Laporte.
Yeah.
Again, really nice on the ball. Slow, slow.
Yeah.
Saudi, I think now. But I could have seen that.
The first of my just high quality players, Thiago Silva. I saw him play for psg. I went and stood in the shed end at Chelsea when psg, not Chelsea. I got. Got given a ticket and my God, he was unbelievable. Cowering inferno of a man. Who have you got in the middle of the park? I've got a single.
I've got so many midfielders here. My. My main ones probably are Philip Coutinho.
Yeah.
But like just plain center, mid, probably in a red NAP442. Do you know what I mean? And just getting booted.
Yeah.
Ross Barkley at some point like that. That maybe. That maybe could or should have happened. My wide players. Hatim, Ben Arthur.
Oh, God, yeah.
Remember him from Newcastle. He was like a tricky winger that, that. All talent, all vibes.
No, it's an amazing goal going straight down the middle.
We'll remember. We all remember that goal. We don't really remember anything else. Hakim Zietch.
Oh, yeah. I really disliked him when he was.
At Chelsea and it's also just that Iax he should have scored against us.
If you watch. Yeah, if you watch in the, when we were two, when it was just before we scored. Yeah, sorry.
He's definitely in there against some like higher and higher level player. Isco.
Yeah, that's a great shout.
You know what I mean? Like it's that, it's that basically it's that really technical small, lightweight center midfielder that just wouldn't work for us. That lacks the player.
Would you say Joe Allen is part of that as well?
Nice, nice. Yep.
I had Joe Cole as well.
Yeah. People forget how good Joker was like like as a youngster. People forget like he was he like England schoolboy level. He was like one of the best players in the world at schoolboy level. Like he was nuts player.
And then I had Aaron Ramsey as well. He just, he always sort of seemed spursy bit injured, never quite up there.
And the Welsh mafia as well.
Well yeah, the other one I've got. I'd love to have seen gigs play. I saw gigs play. He's not really a spursy player because he was unbelievable. And then my forward was dropper just because you know I love a bit of dropper.
Well I, the, the one player I've got written down as my forward which is not someone that I would, I wanted to have played for spurs but I could in another world I could see it is that we go and do 30 mil on me too after his amazing season at Swansea and then he just doesn't score like yeah, that, that feels like that could have, that could definitely have happened.
Yeah. That was a proper one season wonder, wasn't it?
It's I, I, he's got to be as apart from Harry Kane who's one season wonder is me too. The best one season wonder ever in the Premier. Didn't he get like 20, 20 odd goals for Swansea?
Yeah.
And then he went and then Is that when they've got Wilfred Boney who was equally as amazing one season and.
That there's a brilliant video of him running along singing in his own song, isn't it? Score some goals for Swansea. Right. It feels weird like I know he played for us but it's Crouch seems like one of the most Tottenham players ever. Just a bit different. Really good technically underrated I think. Still he's in the hundred club but there's not a huge amount of plays in the hundred club.
Really really good forward like, you know what I mean? Like scored goals pretty much. It's just A good player, good character. Again, he really sort of sums spurs up because there's. He has obviously won stuff in his career, but it's just like, he's like the best level of play you can get to not quite be like an elite winner. And, like, that's where we are. It's those players that like, oh, you're all like, almost there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's. It's the ones who have a big transfer cost and a big salary cost that. That's the ones, you know, we can pay.
The other midfielder, which I think I mentioned last week was Yuri Telemans at Villa. Again, there's that. But basically, basically, if you're like, have an IAX connection, you're from Belgium or you're Welsh, you're in the list.
Basically, what we're saying, it's Newcastle Villa and Everton players. Right, That's. That's our comparison set.
Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Good times.
See, I quite enjoy. I always say, I enjoy losing games because you always know the pod's going.
To be good, just a different one, isn't it?
Yeah. People going, oh, Spencer's gone now. He's reverted back to how he was for other managers. He's had a couple of bad games.
Just chill, just chill. Just chill, everyone. It's all gonna be fine. It will be fine.
This is Tottenham. It'll be back. It will be better than last year. Right then, Copenhagen Hagen. We're gonna win. Man United. We're gonna win.
I'm gonna have Copenhagen us to win two nil and Man United us to draw one one.
I've got three one against Copenhagen. Two goals from corners and a two nil versus Man United.
That'd be a great week. That'd be a great, great, great week. If that happens.
That manual. Who's it. Who's the game bigger for? So Man United beat Liverpool, drew against Forest and now they've got.
I think it's bigger for us. I think we need that home win. You know, that's what we need. We need that home win to just, you know, because we haven't won at home in the league since the opening game of the season. So we. We need to, you know, we need to just get a good home win and just. I just think it all settle everyone down. Like this week, if we get two wins, everyone will just relax and it'll be like, cool. And then we'll go into the PSG Arsenal week, where realistically everyone will go, we're gonna lose these two games. Like, yeah, you know.
Yeah, yeah, they're probably the two best teams in the world right now.
Yeah, exactly, exactly, exactly.
All right, mate, thanks. Enjoy the rest of your day off. I'll see you in a week.
See you in a week.
Don't forget, the future's bright. The future's really white. Come on, you Spurs.
I always thought there was very, very.
Many people interested in football.
And I always thought that football was.
A very important game. But I never realized until today just how important it is. Whether the Wonder Boys of Python are or are not the team of the century can't possibly be more than a.
Matter of a pitch.
Well, they're the finest team in Great Britain and one of the best in the world.
We are about the glory of the game. We are about playing with style. We are Tottenham Hotspur. The curve of the ball, the billow of the net, the beating of the trap and the picking of the lock. The swiftness of thought, the lightness of touch. We are Ginele, Greaves, Klinsman. We are the collective gasp, the intake of breath, the flick, the trick, the 30 yard free kick. We are Hodl, Mabbit and King. We are the the lob, the chip, the dummy and the volley. We are the hat trick, the scissor kick. We are Bill Nick.
That is schoolboy's own stuff.
We are the outside of the boot, the inside of the net. And those seconds that last forever.
Vanderva to level it up. Raphael Van der Vaart. Two, two. It's quite a game, isn't it always?
We are Jennings, Defoe and Perryman. Glory past, glory future. What was, what is, what's next? We are Blanch, Flower, Adelis and baal. We are about winning with a flourish. We are about winning with style. We are about the glory of the game. Daring to try, daring to risk, Daring to dream. To dare is to do.
It's all over D and we're fighting the top. Really st going all the way and kicked him out. Oh, this is incredible. This is quite incredible. Truly a glory, glory day for Tottenham Hotspur.
