ASD and Jack break down Tottenham's recent form under new manager Frank, analyzing tactical shifts and player performances. They're optimistic about the club's direction and what's coming next in the season.
Hello and welcome to Echoes of Glory. I'm ASD and I am Jack. Do you know what I was. Apologies, listeners, we missed. Last week. I was in Wales, summer holidays. I was with my kids. Misjudged when we booked it so we couldn't do it on Sunday. And then I had to listen to the game coming back from a treehouse near Aberystwyth. And I've watched. I've actually watched the game and then the highlights multiple times. And do you know what? For the first time in years, I like Tottenham again. And that sounds right, but we've talked online on Fair about how. Actually I found it really difficult to like Tottenham. Yeah, I found it really difficult to. I. I really disliked Dan Poster Koko. I didn't like what he stood for and that's a big statement because he. He won us a European trophy. But I didn't like his amateurish just inability to see how poor he was and how he hoodwinked people into by being just quite honest and being a little bit abrasive and being. Being. Trying to be normal and trying to be emotional about things. Not in a bad way that it seemed to cover up the. How poor we were for the last two years and then. But we haven't loved Tottenham since Pochettino, we haven't loved Mourinho's Tottenham, we haven't loved Conte Stock, we've loved some of the results. But in Frank, it seems like we've got a modern, pragmatic manager. We've got a team of people who still want to play. They didn't. I don't think Postecogu lost them, but they've got a team who are building on what Postecoglou have, but he's far more pragmatic. We have made a couple of tweaks in Palinia who we'll definitely talk about in kudus and we've got people back fit and we have a plan. The defense is connected to the midfield which is connected to the attack and suddenly it's clicking. And the difference the manager makes. We'll talk about it, say I'm sure. But the biggest decision over the. The. The. The window was what we did with the manager and he. He got it exactly right as far as I can see. He got it. He got it right with. They got it right with Palinia and he's got it right with Kudos like ET wouldn't have been as good as those three have been or as important as those three have been because I. People seem to the Meltdown about ETS has been insane. Like, the power that Arsenal have got over some of our fans. Like, if. If he went. If he was like. Because what came out from the Athletics today is that he phoned Arteta on Wednesday night when he had the contract in front of him, saying, is there any chance I could still play for Arsenal? And then he said, we've got a board meeting later. And then it was done for him. He never wanted to come. We never had him. Levy couldn't have done anything more. Yeah, maybe he could have targeted him three weeks, three months ago, but we didn't have Madison out. He's not a number 10 and that's the position that we need as well. So he would. He would make any side better. Listen, I'm not saying he wouldn't make Tottenham better, but he's not the precise player that we need and we've been very precise in what we need. Kudus has been a superstar already. Palini dominated the game yesterday, and Frank has changed the fortunes of this club. Like, I want to change my prediction of where we're going to finish now from 12th to a little bit higher now, based on just the pragmatism that we've seen. Interesting. So I've had this bottled up ever since yesterday because I feel a sense of relief that I've got my Tottenham back a little bit.
That's amazing. And, like, how long have you waited to say that?
It's been seven years. Seven years? Yeah, like. And I know it's early days, and I know I said in the Marino we weren't going to lose, and I'm. I'm not very good at these predictions.
You actually said we're going to do the quadruple. And I also vividly remember you saying, I don't think we're ever going to lose a game of football ever again.
I might have said that. But for me, it's. It's why I love Tottenham, why I love hanging out with you, hanging out with Chris, hanging out with Jay, hanging out with Stats. All the boys and girls and women and all the. The is. Is who Tottenham are, is. And I see Frank as embodying that ethos way more than anyone we've had since Pochettino. And that's what I love. It's the reason I hate Chelsea so much, because of everything they stand for. And it's the reason I love Tottenham. And just imagine, we had that team out in the Europa League, what the score could have been in that final just now. And it's only A couple of months since then. Like less than three months. I think since then. I'm gonna stop talking.
Yeah. I'm happy for you that you've just got that sense of like happiness and like enjoyment and all of that back again. It's funny that all that's really taken for you is a plan and an identity over anything else. Do you know what I mean? That's been, that's obviously the big shift. What I've. What, what I've loved so far is a few things. Firstly, it's been three competitive games under Frank psg. Psg, Burnley and City. And we've seen three different formations. Firstly, in its simplest, in its simplest terms, PSG was a 5, 3, 2. Burnley was a 4, 3, 3 and City was a 4, 5. So three different formations based on what are the strengths of the opponents that we're coming up against. We've seen three very different styles of play in those games. The psg, one very sort of sit back defensive, playoff set pieces, aggressive J. I mean just like really hard to beat. Ironically we were beat, but hard to beat side where we looked dangerous when we literally slung the ball into the box every occasion. You then go into the Burnley game. Completely different midfield control, possession, much slower and deliberate with how we played and a bit more, a bit more precision in that game. And then you've gone to the City game, which for me was. That's as a complete away performance as you can get. If I'm completely honest. You're really solid at the back. The back four and the keeper are being asked to do less, which you can already see. Ask them to do less, they'll give you more than what they were doing. We, in all of these games we haven't given away massive chances. Like if you think about the chances that have been scored in the PSG game and the chances City had yesterday, like quality teams are going to create. Like that just is what, that just is what it is. You're going to get opened up every now and then. That's when you hope that your keeper makes the saves. And for Cario against City, you know, Harlem put my moose through. Mamush scores that one nil. It's completely different game, right? But he doesn't, he saves it. So for me it's just seeing that, that difference in the tactical approach, the personnel being selected for the opponents we're playing against. But in all of that you've got the, the Frank consistencies where he is obviously massive on second balls. That is obviously such a big thing for him, the eye for detail on the small things in a game are just huge now. And you can see the emphasis that he puts on defending and attacking from every single set piece. And I don't just mean corners, I mean goal kicks, throwings. Everything's deliberate, which is fantastic. But it feels like in the final third that the players have got a bit of freedom. It's almost like he's going, I'm going to get you to the final third and then it's up to you what you do from there. But if you follow all of this, we can get the ball there and then it's over to the individual players to do what you can do. So I've loved seeing that big thing for me is just. It's just been the transformation so far. And we must remember to not get carried away, because if we do go back to Angie's first 10 games, when we all thought, my God, we could win the league here, so we. We mustn't, you know, get absolutely carried away. But to see a team that haven't looked like, excuse me, they've been able to hanging games when they haven't got the ball to what we've seen against PSG and City to have. You're not. We're not going to come against opposition much better than that rest of the season. There's the ability to be like, you know what? Cool. You can put us under pressure for 20 minutes, that's fine. Whereas last season, if a team put us under pressure for five minutes, they'd score a couple, you know, so to see that shift already has been. It's been. Has been brilliant. Obviously helps when you get the results. The interesting thing for me is moving into the next few weeks is how we respond when we go behind, because that's what we're not seeing yet. Right? We've seen Plan A. This is how we think this game is going to go. If we do this, we will win it. And that's what's happened, Right? So I'm really intrigued to see, you know, when we inevitably concede an early goal, or do you know what I mean? A behind and struggling, how can we then play our way back into the game? That will be an interesting test of. Of Frank and the team, but so far, like, it's fantastic, absolutely fantastic to see. And I'm with you on the new editions. Like anyone that's listened to this pod period of time knows that I've rated Paulina for a number of seasons and what he's come in and brought and the him and Benton core in that base of the midfield has just been, you know, it's been great, isn't it? And saw. I mean just, just see Sar like freed up. So I mean it's like you can run, go and run. You know, it's been. It's been great and I just think you've seen a big improvement in. What did we. What did we say to us back in losses and how many players have we seen get better? You can already say that a lot of them. It's only been a few games but a lot of them have raised their level up already and I just. It's just brilliant to see the. The interesting one for me from the City game as well was it felt to me like that was the first time I saw Jed Spence having a bit of trouble. 1v1. But boy did he sort himself out in the second half. Like I thought first half Oscar Bob was a real problem and he was taking up half spaces and Spence was a little bit like, oh, I don't know what to do. But then at half time they obviously plugged that gap with Benton Cor and Kuda's coming back as well to help double up a little bit. Just a great performance, you know, go City and win. I know we went there and won last year but this felt like a really controlled away performance. I speak it to Mr. L Senior.
Yeah.
And then he said to me that if it felt like a bit of a there he said, dare I say Mourinho with Chelsea we're just going to go away and we're just going to win and which is what I mean. And they're like that you can attack us and it's like that's fine but we're just going to win.
Right. According to Opta, Spence in those three games hasn't been triple past once and the quality of player that he's up against James, it's mad. So Udogi has trained but he wasn't quite fit enough to see. I don't know what you do because.
I mean at the minute, at the minute you can't take seconds out at the minute like you like. I love Destiny Dog. I think he's an absolutely incredible fullback but I just think at the minute like it's settled keeping clean sheet. So when was the last time we kept consecutively clean Cheese.
I lost a way win was in.
February but do you know what I mean? Like just back to back clean sheets and what the stats don't tell you it was. It's been the Feeling in both of those league games of feeling defensively comfortable, that's been that. And not having the panic of like, God, the ball's in our third. Like we, it's just felt like we're in a bit of control. I think Paulina really just brings a lot of that. Yeah, it just brings a lot of that. Still in the middle of the park.
Yeah. What a player. The problem is I don't think anyone had a bad game. And what we're seeing is a team performance. Whereas last year, last two years, we've been relying on individual performances. You can have a look at every single player. Vicario did exactly what he needs to do. One dodgy passed out from the back, but seems to be in fashion at the moment in the Premier League. Poro is brilliant right now. Romero and Van De Ven world class. I, I would hate to defend against them because if, if you haven't got Romero just smashing into you, you've got Van De Ven catching you up. There's nothing you can do against that. Spencer is so quick. Those that three in the middle will sa will run for days. He's the closest thing to Kante that we've seen since Kante Palini we talked about. Beno is back properly. And then you've got Kudu, who's a revelation now. I, I didn't expect him to be this good. Richarlison seems to be a completely different player. That should have been two assists for me, really. And then Johnson, we know his game, his game is coming onto board.
Playing to people's strengths, though, like, that's what it is. And I just, I, I, it doesn't, it didn't surprise me that, you know, if you bring, if you bring defensive structure to a team which, let's face it, we haven't had for quite some time, like, you can, like the center backs especially will look even better. And we know how good Van De Ven and we know Romero is a good player. But if we, if we play sort of like this for most of the season, they will have a much bigger reputation. They'll be rated right up there. Because you've got to think the last two seasons they've been told on the halfway line, defending one beat one like that and that. Whereas like now we, we have, we actually haven't really seen Van De Ven have to sprint yet at all. Because we're defending sensibly, you know, I mean, we're defending as a team. We're not relying on. Come Van Der Ven's Hamstrings hold up and can he get back and do a last ditch tackle and save us? So I just think it's been smart management so far. I'm, I'm interested to see, you know, the, the challenges that will come up now that will be different for us moving forward the next sort of seven, eight games. There's going to be matches in there where teams will sit in more against us and say we'll come in and you try and break us down. We'll play you on the break and it's just a different, a different challenge. But I agree with you on the players that we brought in. I think they look great. The E1's really interesting for me because I think I've said probably for the last season, season and a half, I like E. I think he's a talented player. This may come back to mind, but I've never felt that he's that elite player. I've always felt like he's probably in a. He's probably in the same bracket of players as A Madison and Nikolas Evsky and they're good players. I think AS is a good player. But is he. He may elevate Arsenal. He might be the missing link for them, who knows? But I've just never felt like for us that's what we've needed. As good a player as he is. I'm not sure and I know there's a lot of talk about spurs need that number 10. I don't the way, the way that he set us up and the style of play that he had at Brentford. Like it's a lot about running power, aggression, intensity. Not every team has to have a number 10, do you know what I mean? It's not an essential position and it depends on how you want to play. And I wonder if he's looking at it going. I've got two number tens in Madison and Kulizevski. Yeah, cool. They're injured at the moment but like, that's okay. Like Kulasevsky shouldn't be out for too long. They're sort of your creative guy in the middle who can play those little passes. So I'm not sure if it's as desperate and I know I'm in the minority. I'm not sure if it's, if it is as desperate to have that number 10 if your style of play is going to be really quick, really intense. It's all about the. Yeah. Winning the ball back high up the pitch. And I see so many similarities. I think I said it before the season even started so many similarities in the way that he sets up in pre season as to the Klopp Liverpool team which didn't have a creative midfielder but he created tons because of the way they played. So it'd be interesting to what we do. I like the Savino link and that's back. Back on apparently. I like that. I think another player in those wide areas that can go at people I think would be fantastic to see. Imagine you know you have to pick two out of Savino, Johnson, Kudas. One of them's on the bench coming on do I mean that you all of a sudden you got a bit more depth in that final third so I'd be happy with that. We'll see what happens. There's still a long way to go in the window. I still think a lot of it will come down to what happens with Isaac at Newcastle because if he goes there's going to. Surely there's going to be a domino effect of players moving from there. And the interesting one I was reading this afternoon I share the links to Lucas Paquetta West Ham and I was like there's no way we could take Paqueta and Kudas from them in the same window. Surely, surely. But that's where I'm at. But very optimistic about the season. I'll probably sort of stick at the moment with my prediction of seventh. That might be a little bit pessimistic but I just think that we haven't got as much depth as the sides above us.
That's the problem because you have a look at who came on Dan so I think he's a good enough yeah sub I think Solanke and Bergvalt are alternatives. I don't think they're necessarily subs. I think if you've got a different game plan, a different team I think those two are different but then other bear and then the other option is tell they're not at the level of the players we're talking about. Gray is great but obviously he's not that level. Davis is getting a bit older now. Ruskovich is looking like he's going out on loan and you're right and you have a look at what city had Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Doku Rodri A that's the difference.
That's it. That's it. So I probably. I still think we're in that fight impact with like Villa Newcastle teams that have also got a really good start in 13 or 14 players. But then it after that it's you know it gets A little bit tougher. But, like, I think I said this lot on the pod last week, that the manager we've got now is worth points. And like, that's.
That.
That's a different thing. You know, like if. If he said, well, actually, all of a sudden we've lost Romero and Van de Ven until the new year, I'd be confident that he'll still get us results because he'll adapt it and he'll go, that's fine. Look, I've got to do diff. I've got to do different stuff. I'm not just going to go off and event out next player that's going in. You've got to do the same stuff. You know, he's already shown that he's going to change it based on what we've got going on. It's just smart management.
I'm confident he has a style that will work for cups and league as well, which is really important. I'm really excited to see what we did in the Champions League. Who knows what happened? I'm really excited to see players like, kudos in the Champions League.
It's just exciting, though, right? Like, I know the results have been great, but for me, like, especially after the PSG game, I was gutted. I think everyone was. But I was like, I saw a lot in that game that makes you go, you know what? We're gonna be all right.
Any other year, you go, we're going to take the team who are 17th, finished 17th in the Premier League, and we're going to put them up against PSG who just won the Champions League. How do you think they're going to do? No one's going to say they're going to be tuned up with 85 minutes ago and dominating the chances, and then they just can see two stupid goals to the best team in the world. We've come so far already. Thinking about what you're saying about. I'd say because I'm always interested in whether people can make that step up. We talk about it, don't we? About how managing the fourth place. Managing a team to fourth place is very different to managing the team to second and to first, I think. I don't think Arteta is a Premier League winning manager. I just don't. I've said that for years. I was just having a look at Palace's biggest signings. Actually, they. At sales. Because actually they've had a few big players, haven't they, that they sold to bigger clubs who were always superstars. You have a Look at Etsy Wan Basaka, Lassi, Dwight, Gail, Zaha. I put Benteke in there. None of them pulled up trees like Benteki did. Okay. At Liverpool wasn't great. Sahar now is in America isn't doing great. Juan Baka is at United and United United. The one who has been successful I guess is Alise who's gone to B. Wow. Yeah, what a play. But made better by being in a great team as well.
Yeah.
I mean this is pretty. I'm on the list of their most expensive sales and you've got like Etsy one Bissaka at least say and. But then you're into Georgie Manderson who went to Fulham for 30 million.
Yeah, it's good plan and just.
I just remember reminiscing that Andy Johnson's in there. You've got Jordan iu. He never liked Jordan iu. Glenn Murray went to Bournemouth. Chris Coleman I think.
I think palace are another great example though ASD of like get a manager that's gone in there that adapts different ways. Got his fundamental, he knows what he's doing and like at palace side like under him that's a fixture where you go oh we've got palace this week. That's going to be a tough game. For the last 10 years and the palace has been back in the prem playing palace you've been like that's cool, we'll win that. Like it's not been a game you particular but like now it's one of those really awkward banana skin fixtures. I just think the manager makes so such a difference.
Johnson is Johnson good enough? Is he easily replaceable because he doesn't do much apart from score goals which.
Is like keep doing it. Yeah, yeah but that's why, that's why I think if you. That's why the Savino link is exciting for me because Johnson has games where an hour's gone he hasn't and he's done nothing and it's like you know what? Today ain't your day. And it's like cool. And to be able to then sub him and sling Savino in there is like okay, here we go. And vice versa. There'll be games where kudos isn't at it. I think if you just got three of them in two positions then I think it's great. I think if you're relying on Johnson all season you're asking him to absolutely play out of his skin.
Yeah, yeah.
But he's absolutely mastered that timing of the run and getting yourself into those dangerous areas do I mean and it's like. Yeah, I know that he's. Yeah. Bit of a tapping merchant, but, like, you've got to do it. No one else is doing it. So I. I just think for me, that's a position where, like, if his goals do dry up or whatever, then you're like, well, what else are we getting from him? So if you can have another player that can come in in those moments, that really. That's a really good thing.
Yeah, yeah. I mean, he was one in three last year for us, which is a great.
That's a great return.
Yeah. Yeah. For someone who's not a striker, who you'd expect 1 and 2 in the nicest way.
If all. If all of your front three are doing that. This. They're scoring every game. One of them. Do you know what I mean?
This is true. This is true. Okay. I'm interested to see where. How we. The end of it. Who knows what we're going to be like at the end of the. At the end of the window. We. It. It's a very, very, very different time than until we finished.
And it's also great that Rossi Romero's penned a new deal, Jed Spencer's penned a new deal. So to just sort of be locking some of those players down, like, obviously, Romero getting the captaincy big thing for him. Do you know what I mean? Like.
Yeah, what. What an arc for Jed Spence as well, like, not being like, oh, the manager openly coming out and saying, he's not my player. Who's that? Conte. Was that Conte? Yeah, he came out and said, he's not my player. I don't want him.
He.
Him going out on loan. Then I. He did the podcast with Rio. Did you listen to that?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Really good. Just about how actually difficult it was, how you're just living by yourself in this weird little flat and you're just still playing your football and he's come through. He's a young man as well. I'm a. I'm a big fan of his.
I wasn't sure about him, to be honest, early on. Like, I just looked at him and was just a bit. You know, I'm not sure, but he's done fantastically well.
Jerry's older than BRENNAN Johnson, really, 25 and Johnson's 24.
You think? You forget, didn't you?
Yeah. Yeah. But, hey, I think we're. It's crazy how we've lost. We. We lost. We changed managers and we've lost our talisman in Kilmin son, who scored a Free kick yesterday. I'm sure you saw it. Yeah, and we just look better. We just look better. And you know what you said in the greatest moment in our podcast history? You said you looked at the fixtures, the last six fixtures of last season. You said we're not going to win any and we didn't. But we still won the Europa League. I'm looking at the next six fixtures we've got. We're going to win them all. Bournemouth West Ham's a massive game in it.
West Ham away and as well for West Ham. They're in a really difficult moment here. I think they've maybe got Forest next and then us. So it's like.
You might be managed by Ange Postecoglou. What a mess that club is.
Bournemouth balls Bournemouth next week. I the Bournemouth game Iriola. That, that like, like it makes me nervous that game because they're not a particularly great individual team but they always cause everyone problems. So like that could, that could be an interesting test that. Whereas like they, that could be the game. Find yourself behind and can you come back and can you play? Can you put a different type of performance in? Because I don't know if you saw it but they lost at Liverpool on the opening day. Bournemouth and four two was not a fair reflection of that game whatsoever. They were outstanding. They're very, very well coached side. But I, I do agree with you like Bournemouth, West Ham, Brighton, Wolves, Leeds optimistic looking at that, looking at the next five.
Yeah. So we, we've got Bournemouth, West Ham then the first round, the Champions League in between West Ham and Brighton. Then the next lot is on the 30th of September. So we've got Wolves, Champions League, Leeds Villa. I'm saying we win all those league games.
I mean that would be some star.
That we don't lose.
Yeah, well maybe I think that West Ham away is always a tough game. Just as bad as they are. It's always a hard game for us that going there and I feel like we haven't got the best record there in recent years either. There's always the difficulty when you play after Europe. So Brighton away will be tough coming off the back of a Champions League game. That, that will be, that will be a tough game.
But it weren't great today though. Everton's lovely looking new ground.
I don't but like I don't know if Brighton are that great this year. Do you know what I mean? Like they've lost a lot but it's still one of them games, isn't it? That's tough. But it's. It's just a good opportunity for us. If you can start the season well, put some points on the board, get a bit momentum going. I just think it's important to get a bit of a lead over some of these sides. Like with five points in front of Man United, if new car you'd expect. You'd probably expect Liverpool to beat Newcastle tomorrow night with five points in front of Newcastle. Like it's. If you can get a bit of a league going early like it really gives you sort of a little bit of a buffer, doesn't it? That if you do sort of have a bit of a sticky patch like. I just think the league's changed a lot now. It used to be like oh, just in and around sort of April. Be in the mix like and you can catch up. It's like I just don't think it's like that anymore. So I think it's important to. For us to really start well. And given those fixtures you've got coming up, it'd be brilliant, wouldn't it? Like seven, eight games in to sort of find yourself, you know, towards the top end of the table. It'd be fantastic.
We've got that period in November, December, which is Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Fulham. But then Newcastle, Brentford, Forest, Liverpool, Palace. Like it's not the nicest run of games that we could have. Yeah. And so My birthday is 25th of February. We talked about this. It's Tottenham, Arsenal. It's always Tottenham Arsenal around that go back for years. It's always around my birthday. That's such a big game, isn't it? This year they are the better game he's got.
We've said it, he's got to win it. He's got to win one because for.
Me, Liverpool the team to beat. They should be running away with this league. I think words thing with verts though is he's going to change the way they play and I'm not sure how they'll adapt to that. Right. But we said that when they lost Coutinho and then they just got better when they saw Coutinho.
But it's exciting times again and it's nice to be coming on here and talking about what a great performance and you know, we had a plan and everyone's played well, missed scoring goals and we look dangerous in games and we look comfortable defending. You know, it's. It's nice to feel that way again. For sure.
Mr. Must be enjoying it as well after paying for a season ticket. For the last like couple of years and just not seeing his money's worth.
Absolutely. And like the lot, you know, I think anyone that's been in for a long period of time took him way longer than I have. Like all of those people I spoke to last year said this is one of the worst seasons they've ever seen.
Yeah.
You know, and it's probably only second to the year that they all saw us get relegated. So, you know, it's. It is mad ask you about the.
Man City side that we saw yesterday because on paper, I'm not like Ryan does had a great debut, but then he didn't put up trees yesterday. Mamushi is obviously a good player, but I don't think he's. He's. We're not looking at the elite city teams that we've seen before and I think just seems a little bit lower. And Stones is really interesting. Remember a couple of seasons ago he was like, oh, Stones is in midfield now. He's been. He's been adapted. Now he's back to center back. Diaz is obviously amazing. I just don't get that. I don't get why they're playing Trafford Diver. I don't. I don't get it.
I. I think it feels to me like it's a bit of a confused side at the moment.
Right.
The diff. The difference with that. I always think when we come up against these teams that you think are going to be going for the league and they. They still might. Right. Because they've got so much attacking talent that they can just blow teams away. City, but they look vulnerable and they have for a couple of seasons. When you play them, you think, okay, they're going to have a lot of the ball. But like, when we get it, we can. We can get them. And I don't really have that same sense. Well, I haven't had that same sense when we've played Arsenal, when we've played Liverpool. I haven't really felt like for 90 minutes when we get. We're going to create here and we'll have six or seven chances, like we're definitely scoring was. When you play Liverpool and Arsenal, I just think you go, it's going to be difficult to get one goal here and that. And that's the difference. And I think when you play City, you do just go. Will be able to get behind their fullbacks. Like, I'll be honest with you, I'm not sure that Diaz has is the player that a lot of people think he is. I think he's A good center back. I don't think he's, you know, I don't think he's amazing. I think he's got mistakes in him. Stones is great, but he's only one of a back four. And I just think, look, when they get Rodri back fit, there'll be a different beast because they'll just be able to control games in a very different way. Like that will be the difference for them.
Yeah, yeah. Missing Vardy or. No, I said I wasn't sure about Claudio, but he is. He's a decent player, isn't he? And Calvin Phillips, I mean, he hasn't. You've got to leave if you're Calvin Phillips. He's still at City. Just hasn't played in about a million years.
That's mad. That's surely a deadline day to Leeds.
That is the rumor, surely, because, I mean, he's got a Champions League and an FA cup and a Premier League Cup. Sorry to his own FA cup to his name, but he can't feel good about that. It's weird not having much to complain about it. Just, it's. It's.
I think just enjoy it. Enjoy it, man. Well, like, while we're playing well, while it's all going well, like, sit back and enjoy it.
What signs do you want in the Champions League?
You know, I'm all. I. I feel like I've got small club mentality, win spurs in the Champions League because I'm just like, give us the big teams. I know we're not going to win it. Did you know what I mean, boys? Like, we should probably start thinking, like, actually, like, let's get. Let's be able to play some of the. Maybe not quite a strong side we can get for a night. But I'm just like, I want to see us playing Barcelona. I want to say I'd quite like to see us take on Conte's Napoli. I think that would be, wouldn't it? That would. I mean, like, let's face their brilliant side, but like, I just fancy that, like him coming back would be. That would be really cool to see.
I did my country. I'd love an Italian team for Juve interview. Napoli, they're all in.
It would be great.
Atalanta are in it. That would be great. I'd love to have a go at.
Athletico Madrid or like Bayern. And to see Kane competitively against us would be. That would be interesting.
Do you remember what happened last time we met him?
Yeah, but you know.
Yeah, I try to play Dortmund. We've Got a good record against Dortmund.
We. We have a weirdly good record against Dortmund.
Is in. Don Bell still at Galatasaray look like to play against and Don Valet just to see what we're missing.
I can tell you what we're missing. Not a lot.
No. He's been at Nice. We sold him to Nice. I got that wrong. It's good having the Premier League back, isn't it? I was dreading it a little bit because I was a bit like, oh, my God, it's just on all the time. It's just football on all the time. I can't be asked with it, but I'm enjoying it.
I'm enjoying the start of the season. Man might just make such a difference. You. You start well, like, get a few wins. You have a big away win, like we've done. Beat one of the big boys, like we've done. It's like it makes you go, oh, you know, you could. We could do something again this season. And now that's the feeling. You just want to try and hang on to that feeling for as long as possible.
Yeah. All right. I've said that we're going to be. Be winning our next six games. What have you got?
I'm gonna go for a victory again. A victory against Paul. So What? We've got three 15 points to play.
For 18 if it's six games.
Are you including. Are you including the Champions League one in there? No.
Bournemouth West Ham, Brighton Wolves, Leeds Villa.
Win at Bournemouth, draw at West Ham, lose at Brighton, beat Wolves, beat Leeds, beat villa. So that's 3, 4, 7, 10, 13.
I guess we take it with me.
That would be pretty good.
Okay, take that. I'll take that. What's your feelings on Romero? I think he's been excellent this season so far.
Yeah, I think he has been. I do think that, like, the. The Just the way we play, that all those defenders so far must be going, this is brilliant.
Yeah.
We're not. Do you know what I mean? There's. We've got a bit of protection in front of us. There's structure to how we play. You know, all the stuff that we've said. But yeah, and it just seems like he. He. It feels like he's happier this season and maybe it's one of those things that actually, like, you know, they've gone to him and gone, look, they've obviously given a really chunky pay rise. They've gone, we want you to be the captain. You're going into your peak years as your player. This is Your club now, like, we want you to, like, you're the guy for the next four or five seasons. And it's like, actually that doesn't happen to many players. If you look at it like, for a club to go, we want new deal captain, this is it, you're our guy. Like, there's only a handful of players that happens to realistically. So I feel like that's given him a bit of a. I don't know if he needed the confirmation of, like, you are the leader now. Like, you know, I mean, you know, some people, they're brilliant captains, but maybe not very good vice captains. It's like they've got to be the guy. And I wonder if he needs to be the guy.
Yeah. I think seeing how we treat our heroes as well, seeing what happened with son, seeing what happened with Harry Kane, that must be a must, a big thing as well. Yeah.
And, and just, you know what, the, the scenes at the parade must have had an impact.
Oh, God, yeah.
Like, do you know what I mean? Like, if you were thinking about going, you see something like that, that's, that's got to just be in your head a little bit.
Surely there is no way he can remember it. All right, man, let's, let's round this up so we'll be back next week, hopefully with three points and it's, it's great to be back. I, I, I love this club and I love what's happening right now. It feels very old, but I'm really, really enjoying it and I can't wait to see what's gonna happen.
Future's bright, isn't it?
The future. I told you when we won the Cup, I thought the future was bright. But it seems to be even brighter than even then pictures. Anyway. Come on, you Spurs.
I always thought there was very, very many people interested in football. And I always thought that football was a very important game. But I never realized until today just how important it is.
Whether the wonder boys of Pietheart Lane.
Are or are not the team of the century can't possibly be more than.
A matter of opinion. Well, they're the finest team in Great Britain and one of the best in the world.
We are about the glory of the game. We are about playing with style. We are Tottenham Hotspur. The curve of the ball, the billow of the net, the beating of the trap and the pitch, the picking of the lock, the swiftness of thought, the lightness of touch. We are Ginele Greaves Klinsmen. We are the collective gasp, the intake of breath, the flick the trick, the 30 yard free kick. We are Hodl, Mabbit and King. We are the lob, the chip, the dummy and the volley. We are the hat trick, the scissor kick. We are Bill Nick.
That is schoolboy's own stuff.
We are the outside of the boot, the inside of the net. And those seconds that last forever.
Van der Vaart to level it up. Rafael Van der Vaart. Two, two. It's quite a game, isn't it always?
We are Jennings, Defoe and Perryman. Glory past, glory future. What was, what is, what's next. We are Blanch, Flower, Adelis and baal. We are about winning with a flourish. We are about winning with style. We are about the glory of the game. Daring to try, daring to risk, daring to dream, to dare is to do.
He's all over top and we're putting the top really stubborn. Going all the way again here. And Leonard's kicked him out. Oh, this is incredible. This is quite incredible. Truly a glory, glory day for Tottenham Hotzma.
