Jack and ASD break down Tottenham's recent matches against Villarreal and Brighton, analyzing player performances and tactics. They discuss whether the team is genuinely improving or just playing better opponents, and what the season ahead looks like for Spurs.
Really stubborn. Going all the way again here. And Leonard's kicked him out. Oh, this is incredible. This is quite incredible. Truly a glory, glory day for Tottenham Hotzma.
Hello, and welcome to Echoes of glory. I'm ASD and I am Jack taking the piss. 15 years for this to start. 4 points from the week. I think we would have taken that three points in Champions League. Point away at Brighton. Brighton beating Man City at home. So it could be worse, but there's lots. It's actually quite an interesting week. Do you know what I'm really enjoying right now is the last two years, maybe the last six years we've been going, oh, my God, what are we going to talk about? It's the same stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But now actually it's. Tottenham are quite interesting, I think. I think actually there's a lot of depth and nuance to it. And my overarch. I almost text you so I would have evidence, but I. I didn't. I'm a little bit worried about our defense and our attack. I'm not sure our defense is as good as people make out. And I'm. I'm really worried about our attack. Not in a bad way. Like, he is, what, five, six games in, really. But I'm a bit. I'm going, okay, where does it go now? I'm less worried about the defense. And that's the thing he's focusing on. Right. I'm a little bit worried about the attack, but let's. Let's talk about that as we go through. So the first game was Vial. You were there?
I was there. Great to be back with that anthem being played. Fantastic. It just felt great. Although you couldn't quite hear the anthem properly because the speakers and the surround sound completely broke in the stadium, so you couldn't really hear much of it, which was hilarious. There was obviously a lot of jokes flying around in the ground of, like, Levy's only been gone a few days. And look, clubs falling down, pieces.
Yeah. I remember hearing about a creative agency where. When they were pitching. So in our. In listening, in our world, you go to a business and you say you want to do their advertising and you have two hours with them and you show them presentations of your work. You go out and you probably pass another agency who are then on their way in. This agent, the first agency I won't name, used to unplug the computer and all the wires from the back of the computer and the projector on their way out.
Brilliant.
That's what Levy did.
Such a shithouse Move that isn't. It's proper. Gonna rattle people, though, like, it really is.
Right. But that meant the people I pitch with now, they take their own projector with them and they just. They are prepared for everything.
Double print printouts. Love it. No, but it was great to be back in the Champions League. It was a really interesting. I enjoyed the tactical side of the game against Fully real. It. It weren't a game for the ages at all. It was very much two teams that were set up really well, really controlled in their own half. Probably lacked any real sort of cutting edge in attack. That. That was the game that I watched anyway. It just felt like it was one of them games where you're like, you know what you haven't played particularly well, can just get out of here of a win and, and just park it and not worry. And that's such a skill to have, right? To be able to not play that great and win is fantastic. And the, the big thing really was just the fact that there's. There feels like there's the ability that this team can keep clean sheets. So you can do that. Do you know what I mean? You can have games where actually you're not really at it in the final third, but. But that's okay. It was interesting, the team selection. I like that. Like he's. He's mixing it up pretty much every game, isn't it? And he's looking at it and going, actually, I don't want PA in here. I want Benton core in this game on his own because we're going to try and control the ball and, you know, have a bit more pace when we attack. Game didn't quite go like that. It's just one of them in the Champions League. We've always said in a European competition, win your home games, you'll be fine. You know, the rest will take care of itself. So I think it was really important. I also think it's a sign that this, this draw that we've got against these lesser sides is not going to be as simple and straightforward as what probably we think it. It's going to be like. They're good sides, all of them, but great evening. Great back in the Champions League. Great to kick things off with a win. Sets us up nicely now for the next couple of games that we've got.
Yeah, it was an awful game. It reminded me of the Europa League final. Like, it was. It was God awful. It was. It was quite a difficult thing to watch and it worried me a little bit because that was a pretty Much our first team out there. I mean, you could argue with Doggy versus Spence and then where Simmons should play, but it's pretty much the first team. I don't know how else you'd. I mean, you've obviously got Palina maybe, but a Moani instead of Richarlison. But like you say, they, they were set up and it must be. It must throw all your preparation plan out the window when you go through that early goal. Own goal keepers then obviously got that in the. You saw it as soon as the final whistle went. You saw him react to his own mistake and how he was frustrated. So that will then play in the minds of the center backs. So interesting to see how many player. All those players we've seen before when Pepe Perez Foith was obviously there and obviously Thomas party came on. When you've said it all, it's, we've won the home game. No one will remember it. No one will. At the end of the season we'll go, oh, my God, I forgot about that. I forgot about that own goal.
But it's. It's just one of them that you've got to win it and get through. And I, I tried to not get sort of too carried away and people were moaning and I'll be like, oh, we're not crying. It's like, look, we found it hard tonight, but we've won. Like, let's just move on. And the Brighton game feels like it was a complete polar opposite to the Villarreal game in both good and bad ways.
Yeah, I mean, you know, for the last few years I have been saying, we've been saying. But I've been saying, like, we can't complain about being in the Europa League until we've won it because we can't say, oh, we're Champions League quality when we've never been able to do anything decent in the Europa League. We're through that now and this is just what, what the champions do. Alex Ferguson used to say, just get through to Christmas. Not then it starts, we're just getting through to Christmas with these sorts of results. Yeah, yeah. See, I'm not.
It was, it was, it was interesting, the Brighton one though, because. Right again, I like, I like that he changed the side round a little bit and I like that he, he'd seen an obvious thing, which I think was very apparent against Vill Ro that Jed Spencen is an excellent fullback and out of the three of them is. Is by far the best defensively. Like, the guard doesn't get beat 1v1. He gives you so much stability from the back. He doesn't take risks with the ball. Like all of those things about, like, right, if we want to be solid first, brilliant, brilliant option to have as a fullback, there are some limitations to him, which I think, to be fair, I think we spoke about this last season. We're actually in the final third. And when he's asked to create stuff as the modern fullback is, I don't think he's anywhere near as good as the other two. That's fine. It's good to have options. But for Frank to have gone into the Brighton game and gone, you know what? I'm gonna sling Udogie in. I'm gonna just rotate Spence out for this game. My word is your doggy play. Well, he was an absolute terror going forward. And like, what an option. Do you know what I mean? You've got a fullback there who can go and do that and then you've still got someone like Spence, do you know what I mean, who can give you the defensive solicit as and when you want it. So it's almost like he can go, right, how do I want to attack in this game? I want to attack up the left hand side with a fullback. Brilliant. Udogi, you're in. And then other games he might go, you know what? I actually want to attack through the middle. Suspense. You're going to come in and play. And I just think that's fantastic way of looking at the games. And my word, did he identify the Brighton weakness? Because Udogi just literally was. He got in the box, I think four or five times. All right, it didn't lead to a goal, but I thought we looked, I thought we looked brilliant pretty much all game. And when we were two nil down, I was sat there thinking, how are we? There were two great Brighton goals, by the way, but I was sat there going, how are we 2 nil down? We've played pretty well here. We're creating chances. We're getting into their box. I know the stats will show we didn't have loads and loads of shots, but you know when you watch a game and a team just feels dangerous? That was exactly what we were.
I'm looking now. We had 11 shots to their 12s. We had 10 corners to their 2. We had 44 touches in their box compared to their 17 like it was with us. XG is pretty much the same. We had 63 possession. Like, the, the stats are in our favor. Yeah. But the goal, the first goal came because Udogi was so high, I thought, yeah, that's it. Odaba lost the ball and then lost. He went. He was then tracking the man back and then lost the man, which is a bit frustrating. I think he was just a bit weak in that moment.
That's it. And I think he. It is definitely Frank still. And this is going to take him six to 12 months. It's definitely still just trying to get the right balance of how do you know, how attacking do I go, how defense. And try just trying to figure out what that looks like.
Who are the, who are the best fullbacks in the Premier League now? Trent. Trent was never the best fullback. He was, he was an incredible pass for the ball. He was, he was the best winger who didn't have the responsibility of being a winger because he wasn't a very good fullback. But who is the best?
Like, I think there's. I think. I think there's still a few standout players. I, I think Timber Arsenal is bloody great.
Yeah.
Like, again, it depends what you want at your fullback though, right? Because like he's a really good defensive fullback. Like people don't really beat him 1v1. He's quick, he's good in possession. I think when he's fit and firing. I think Rhys James is still excellent right back. But how fit, how fit is he that regularly? Not really. Asides from that, like, I've got a.
Top 10 list from last year. So you've got Trent who's gone. Ola Aina from Forest. Yeah, it's decent.
He's got to be. He's got to be a number 10 now though. So isn't he.
So Munoz who is a right back for Palace. Yeah, yeah, like, but this is what I'm saying. Like Wambasaka. No, I'm not very excited. Spence is obviously amazing. Cucarella, the one everyone loves to hate. Like, he's good, but I think he's very noticeable. They've got Gard here, which doesn't count. Kirkez. But like these aren't exciting. We're not, we. We're not in an era of unbelievable fullbacks right now. And this what the point I'm making is when you're saying, you know, he isn't perfect, he's got flaws. There isn't someone who doesn't have flaws.
Absolutely. But I also think, like we're in a really great position, that you've got three fullbacks there that all offer really different qualities. And it's just then about, okay, cool, like, what do we want to do from this game today, the obvious we have, what we haven't seen yet is a new doggy Spence combination for a game. Do you. I mean, Spence playing as a right.
Back and yeah, I was going to say what happens when Por goes out like Gray or Spence, but I think.
I think you just got that. There's just that other option there. But, you know, I think Poro is another one that people love to hate. I, I think he's, I think he's a good player, but I just thought your doggy was fantastic. Look, the goals were counter attack. Quite similar types of goals. Well, the first one, it was a very similar type of goal to what we conceded last year, right? Like just a bull in behind and they've scored. The second one's a great strike off. I don't think it's fantastic goalkeeping, if I'm totally honest with you. I also think there was a foul on Richardson in the build up. So it's one of those.
There definitely was, but the, the, it.
Was more about like the.
Mate, can I interrupt? Yeah, he, he was going into the game the best goalkeeper the Premier League so far in terms of saves made. I, I think he's a very good goalkeeper. I think goalkeeper, their highlights are all their, their mistakes are always highlighted. But he, he made an error. He went through his hands.
That's it. I think he's a good goalkeeper. He's not in the elite bracket. He's a good goalkeeper. Like, I don't have any, I don't have any issues with him at all. But the big, the big thing for me was just the fact that you go two nil down and it's easy to go. Oh, we've. They kept playing like really aggressive football. They still got men in the box. We still pass forward, we still battle. Like, yeah, you could feel it as a fan watching it going. This ain't over. Like, they just kept going and doing the same thing. We were creating chances before we've gone two nil down. Well, let's keep creating and I thought we were absolutely good value for at least a draw. At least a draw. I think that Brighton probably earned the point because they've scored two good goals and that's normally enough for you to get something from a game. But I just really impressed that we just kept going, kept going, kept going. Players coming off the bench made an impact, which was fantastic. Javy Seamon was great coming in and just getting on the ball and being like, I'm going to make stuff happen. I know he started But Kudas, again, like, I. He's great to watch. Yeah, he's great to watch. And I know that again, the people looking at stats and all that and be like, oh, like, he needs to, you know, like, score in the system and all that. He is such a threat, and he is so key to the way we play that, like, if he's not there, like, we lose so much, so much of what we do going forward.
I didn't have this impression of him when he was at West Ham. He has been able to step up incredibly well, and he just brings chaos. It's really hard to put stats on chaos. But, yeah, he's incredible.
I think we've got him, like, we get him in more points of the game to do what he's good at versus when he's been at West Ham, where he's running back, defending. So it's like a player like that, like, you can see a lot of the time the tactics are quite simple. At points where it's like Paolini does it, he just gets. Paul just gets it out to him, and it's like, go on and go. Your fullback. And it's like if he has the. The opportunity 8, 9, 10 times a game to go at a fullback, like, he's gonna create problems.
That's it. That's what the Palacios instruction, isn't it? Just, yeah, get the ball, give it to Modric.
I've been so impressed with Paolin, you know, by the way, like. And, like, there's been a lot of stuff on Twitter about what he can't do, but what he can do is he's so, so good in that. In that role. And. And for what I think we need a midfielder to do in this system with the players that we've got further forward. I think he's absolutely perforate. There will be games this season where he finds it hard because teams get around him and they exploit what he's not great at. But winning the ball back, passing it forward and just keeping attacks going, I just think he's so underrated at it.
He's putting. You'd hate to play against him. Reminds me of just an Italian team. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The whole time. It just allows people like Bent, Kern, Bergwell to do their magic. I can't wait to see Kulusevsky come back because he. The. The less legwork Kulis has to do, the better he can be because he's a smart player. I think we really, really missing, but I. I don't know where him. Simond and what's his face at Madison are going to play I, I don't know where they're going to play and.
You still got Kudis and Richarlison but like how, how great is that though? Like with a manager like Frank he'll go well I don't have a start in 11 depends on playing, you know and I really like that.
Yes I left hand side. I don't know who plays in that forward left hand side because Auduber and Tell aren't the answers for me or right now we are loaded on the right.
Yeah, I'm not, I'm not sure, I'm not really sure what till offers if I'm honest. Odd bear shows glimpses I probably would like that that look that's the area but then I think Jeffrey Simons probably plays on that side.
I know people he is a 10 all day long.
I know but sometimes in the Premier League there's just no space in there and actually it's the whole, the whole thing. I used to absolutely love it when Christian Ericsson used to play off the left for us because you can be a bit so you can see the game a bit more. You can be smart about when you pop inside when you don't and I just, I feel like the game has sort of evolved again a little bit and like does that, is that 10 a a traditional 10 hours feel like if you look at the players in that position, your foden your those kind of players they tend to sort of play in the half space in the pockets as opposed to actually being in the middle of the pitch. So I can, I can definitely see Berg Ra being sort of left of the for the free him having a license to go on and then Simons can sort of pop inside and then you've got Udogy going around the outside. Like that's a, I think that's where you get that left side balance but then it just leaves you a little bit more open exposed. But look it's a nice problem to have. I, I, I think that they're doing the right thing with Javi Simmons and just easing him in and playing on the wing give him a little bit less to do until you get up to speed and then give him a.
Space where he's able to go and then be pragmatic and go forward into the game rather than have the game in and in, in and around him, around him.
Exactly. But it was great. And you know what like I think we've struggled against Brighton for a few years, haven't we. They're a bit of a bogey team. They're just really awkward opposition and I just think to go there, go 10 nil down relatively early in the game, come back and dig out a draw and come away disappointed. I'm pleased with it. I'm pleased with it, yeah.
Beaten City like at home, like we are. We're doing well for, for what it is.
And we're coming out of. You know what we were saying that those, those tests of can you break sides down? That was a prime example of, like, could. Can you go 2 nil down? You've got to score at least 2 now. Can you break that opposition down? Absolutely, we could. Absolutely. So I think that was, that was really good and really encouraging to see. It's just about getting that it just. And he will find the balance because he's a good manager.
Yeah. And Richarlison, man, Richarlison is three goals in five league games a season. Like, that's. He's doing really well. I know it's early days, but we have to give him a shout. He's. He's offering what we thought we. We bought in 2022.
It's just a funny player. And he, like, you know what I mean? It's like he's. I feel like I. I definitely judge him a little bit harsher because he's not great on the eye. Do you know what I mean? It's like he never, he never feels like he's got any sort of control. There's not much elegance to his play. But look, he is a bit of a nuisance and he's showing that when he gets around the games he can put the ball in the net. Look, I'm pleased that he's getting to at least have a fair shot. Do you know what I mean? Players come in and they're just, they're injured and that you, like, you'd be like, I haven't really had a run of games. So at least he's. At least he's getting that opportunity. I think it's going to be good for us to get Slanky back fit, get Colin Muani up and running as well, because then you've got real competition as well for those positions. I think the issue we've had probably for at least 12 months is you play a guy down the middle, you got no other option. If he's having an off day, there's not like there's. There's nothing you could do. How great would it be? Like, richarlison starts and actually, you know what? After an hour, it's not working. You can sling Solanke on then. Actually, it's still not working. You put column one in there with him, like, just to be able to do that. Just.
Yeah, yeah.
You know that.
That's.
That's great.
And then you've got Solanki, who's coming back in a matter of days now. So we might even see him against Doncaster in the week.
You'd think so. Wouldn't you think that there'd be a few of them that will get. He'll hopefully get an hour. Hopefully Javi simons can get 90, maybe on Wednesday, or at least again, give him 60, 70B. And it's just. I think there's a good opportunity, especially for some of the newer attacking players, to get some goals Wednesday night and just, you know, just get that little bit momentum of, like, here we go. How great would it be for Columni to get on the score sheet Wednesday? I know it's Doncaster, but, like, just get that first one and then you're away, ain't you?
Yeah. Massive game at our place. Should have looked for tickets at our place.
If you want a ticket, you can get a ticket. Like, they've just. There's so many going. I'm going Wednesday.
I'm already booked, but I might. Big game. They're seventh in League one. They've won five games out of nine. Like, they're in League one. This will be. They will be defensive, right? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they've already come out and said it's. It's. It's the Tottenham game is the Tottenham game. They said the league is their bread and butter. So they. They are not interested in putting everything behind winning this, but it's a. It's a stumbling block.
Yeah. I just think you've got. We've got to look at and going to look. We've got a League One opposition, chance to keep momentum going, get some goals. Let's just go out there and get a good win. Which we should do. Which we should do.
Wolves is the interesting one because Wolves have not won a game. They are bottom of the league. Now. This is prime poster. Coglu. Dr. Tottenham, you know, with. I mean, to be worse than West Ham is pretty bad, but they are. They've scored three, they've conceded 12. They've lost all their games and it's pretty dark right now.
They don't look. But didn't. Did I read that they've just given their manager a new contract?
I haven't Seen that.
I feel like I'd seen something about that or that might have just been a bit of a spam thing that I'd seen. Look, they're not a great side. Yeah, that's it. Like, I don't want to be too. Like, we should just turn up and we should win. We're still gonna have to. But they don't. Like, in the nicest way. They don't really carry a golf threat and they're not very good at the back. It's one of them that you should just be able to turn up and put a good performances performance in and get a win. And kind of just said, that will put us in such a great. Like, if we can. If we beat Doncaster and beat Wolf this week. What a great start to the season.
Yeah.
Do you know what I mean? It's really, really good start. Like, you can't really be asking for a lot more than that in your first few games.
We finished 17th last season. You know, like, this is. We have achieved half of our clean sheets from last season, and we're third in the league behind Liverpool and Arsenal. Like, we've got the same record as Arsenal. Pretty much won three, drawn one, lost one. Same as Arsenal. They've got one more goal difference than us. And we've played sitting. We beat them.
Yeah, we've had a couple of, like, difficult away games as well. All three of our. Wake up, actually. City away, West Ham way, Brighton away. Do you know what I mean? They're not. They're not great away fixtures either. So I just. I think if we can have another good week this week, it's just like get to the end of September and you're like, you know what, Thomas? Frank, Fair play to you.
Yeah, well done.
Yeah. Like, it's not an easy thing to.
Do at all, that I just looked up where. So the. The top score in the Premier League is Harland, who's on six, which is more than the goal a game, and then everyone else is on three.
Can I tell you something nuts about Harland? That was it. Six goals in five. This is his worst start to the Premier League season. He's scoring more than one a game, and this is his worst start. How ridiculous is that?
We see. You saw, He's. He's only 25. He scored 50 goals in 49 Champions League matches. Now, he's the quickest to ever do it.
It's worth. Can we just put. Put a nod to Harry Kane in Bayern and what he's doing at the start of the series and 11 goals and assists in the first five games.
Yeah, he's got nine hat tricks from now, isn't he? What?
What are you doing?
What you should have done was do that five years ago, Harry. But. But unbelievable. But we're very grateful. There's two 11s that I've seen recently. One I put in the group, the other one is our under 23s. So under 23s, we've got a very good under 23s team. So if you go, we've got Kinski at the back, Udogi Buskovic, Takai Gray. So not the best. I mean, Udogi and great. I love Andre Gray. Then you've got Sar and Bergval, who are brilliant. They're up there with the best in the Premier League right now. Odebear, Xavi, Minhyuk, and then Tal up front that that team would survive a Premier League season. I think the backpool might get bullied a little bit.
I'm not sure. I think that would be fighting it, if I'm honest. But you got, you got. It's just so young, isn't it? Yeah. I know it's an obvious thing to say because it's an under 23s, but like it's such a. Yeah, like if that, if that come up against. Do not. I mean you veteran midfielders. Do you know what I mean? An old school center halves and all of that. Like, do you think tail would get a kick against Tarkovsky? Probably not. Like, do you know what I mean?
Ah, but that's not gonna be every game. Like, I'm not saying they're gonna be top half, but I think they'd survive it. They'd be West Ham.
I think that team would find it difficult winning away.
I know what you mean. I know what you mean.
Like one of them in it. Like this, this, this feels like a Spurs starting 11 that we've had previously. Do you know what I mean? You go away in the Europa League and you get beat 1 nil in Slovenia somewhere and it's like, oh, okay.
Do you know what? I've closed my eyes and I can just see Hulk B as part of this team. I go, oh my God.
Or you can see Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davis sprinting back towards their own goal where we've given the ball away on the halfway line.
Yeah, fair. Fair. Okay. All right, I'm wrong there.
But can I say I love the fact that we've. That it's so exciting talking about our young players because it feels like it's been A while since we've really got excited. Like Bergval, like 19, like, he is just like, he's amazing, like. And like, I know we're all disappointed about the E thing not happening and we're happy we've ended up going and getting Javi Simons. But I remember saying this to you when it was all happening. I was like, we cannot be buying someone that is then going to not allow burglar to play. Like, it's one of them. It's like, you have to be patient with young players. He's going to have a dip in form at some point because he's been brilliant for a year. But like, at 19, to be doing what he's doing center of midfield, like, it's. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous what he's doing.
Did you see the BBC video on him where they went back through? I sent it, put it in the group. The. They just went back to his group where he came from. And the decision where the. The club he came from. Like his uncle, his dad, his brothers are all professional footballers. Like, he just comes from footballing background. And then the team saw him and then they sold him and then he was playing in Sweden and then Barca came in for him and they had to make a decision bartending. He chose Tottenham to get more play time. And look at him now. Like, he's. He's a little bit of a superstar.
That's it. That's it. And it was like he so made the right move because it's like at 19, do you know what I mean? Like, you've still got at least. At least two, if not three contracts left. So it's like you can stay at spurs for another couple of years and then if you're still killing it, move when you're 22. Like, do. I mean, it's 22, man. I know, but like, I saw something which was like, he was only just a teenager when Covid was here. Like, that's how young he is. Kobe was five years ago. He's 14. Like me.
Feels like.
It's insane, isn't it?
Well, Shafi Simmons is named after Jamie when. When he was born, he was named after Xavi. I remember Shabby playing as if it was yesterday. No. Makes me sick. Scary. The other one is the best. The. The best 11 according to FIFA ratings last 20 years. So you've got 2018 Larisse, who's an 88. Then you've got 2019 for Tongan, who's an 87. 2006 King, who's an 84. Odiverald 87, Walker 83 which I thought was interesting. Modric 88, Dembele 84 which you know annoys me son 89. Erikson 88. Bale 87. So Bale has got a lower rating than Ericsson then son Kane, he's got the same rating as Superyan Batongan and.
Wasn'T led in the worst out of all of them which is just second worst.
So Walker and then Ledley and then Kane was on 90 in 2019. Kane was on fire that year. But Bale, Bale changed football. Yeah, he went off the back of this season. He went off and won five champions leagues. But I mean that's some team.
Ridiculous. We've had some great players and I like I, I, I'm so optimistic with the Bergfell one that he's going to be another one in years to come that we go. Do you remember when he broke in? Do you remember a good light? I just think that there's such a great player there.
Yeah. How much do we pay for him?
It's about like 10 mil. Wasn't it like like not a lot at all.
That is. That's going to be a deli ali 5 mil. 8.5 million. That is cheap for 2024 money.
Ridiculous.
Yeah we. Because we will definitely sell him for a lot more than that. Unless he runs out, runs his contract out which I can't see him doing.
Well they just give him a new deal this year, didn't they?
So he's.
Because he got six years on his contract, hasn't he? So like he's not going anywhere.
He's not going anywhere. O I love him. He hasn't scored, Benny. He's only scored one league goal for us.
He's only scored one legal. And he got a goal against Liverpool, didn't he in the cup last year? Yeah, yeah, yeah. But some player.
Some player. So two wins Doncaster. Which one's going to be the more difficult game? Because the team against Doncaster won't be our first Evan. And it won't be an experienced like together team. Team that are used to playing together. Will we see Ben Davis?
Well he's got an injury, isn't he? He didn't make the bench yesterday so I think he'll be touch and go whether or not he's. He's in.
You sure?
Yeah. He has got her update. He had a small injury so he wasn't included. But what's the team likely to be like? Kinski might get a run out. You're probably going to see Gray Danso if he's fit. Davis I reckon who Doggy will play again.
Doggy maybe Paulina just to Palina or.
Benton Core one of them probably like we don't have like loads and loads and loads of players. Do you know what I mean? Like it's not going to be like oh, we've given five players a debut. It will just be the likes of. You might have a front three of like Johnson. Tell Odibar that's it.
Maybe Gray in the middle somewhere. That would be nice.
Yeah, I think that. I think they'll give Kudis the night off. Like I think he's played every minute, isn't he so far? So I think he'll be one that, you know, you like that. Yeah, exactly.
But still out, isn't he?
Thankfully.
I don't think he's that bad.
That should still be enough. And like you say like Don Costa will make changes as well because like, as nuts as that sounds, like their manager will have to do a job at keeping his squad players happy and it's like if he's got squad players that he's not playing in the league and then a cup tie comes out and they don't play him like so it will be, it'll be a much changed doncaster11 as well. So I'm like I don't think we'll have any issues Wednesday night to be honest. Colin Morani. Hopefully you'll get a run out.
That would be good, wouldn't it?
That'd be nice to see him team out there. So I think wolves will be the trickier game because I know I haven't started but I still think their manager's got a little bit about him though.
Yeah.
Isn't he like. I don't know, he just seems like a bit of a fighter. Like he's not going to go down quietly. Yeah but. And yeah it's still, it's still, it's still a Premier League game. Do you know what I mean? And like you say, yeah, this is classic spurs, absolute classic Spurs.
We don't create many chances like just good chances either. That's, that's the worry.
But we did against Brian, we did against Brighton, we created. Maybe not like we got into some amazing positions and then the final board wasn't there. So it's like, I think if we can keep doing that like that will come. It's the game, it's the games where you know you're just going side to side and you pro it and you're not. Nothing's really happening. Whereas, like, I've.
It.
It's the. It's what X doesn't give you. How does a game feel against B Real? It didn't feel like we were going to score against Brighton. It felt like we were going to score every attack. Against West Ham, it felt like we were going to score every attack. So I think if we, you know, I think you're just going to see us progressively get better a little bit each week. Each week, Each week.
That's exactly right. Right, I've got the BBC quiz up here. Can you name every manager under Daniel Levy?
And no, it's.
The answer mate is.
So that's hard.
This is thanks to Owen Wilson, friends of the show, who put me onto this. So we are going to try. We've got four minutes and we've got the amount of games.
You've not had to go this yet. We're going to do this together.
I have had to go, but this was a couple of weeks ago, so you know what my memory's like. So I will. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm gonna start off by putting Frank in there. Yeah. And then I'm gonna do Poster Coglu. Yeah.
Which should we try and watch? A try and work back.
Yeah. Before him was Conte Mourinho. Oh, no, in between that was Nuno.
Just. Just like Ryan Mason and Stellini count. It's got to be permanent manager. Is it?
Yeah.
Yeah. Okay, cool. Potch.
I can't be sure.
Okay, cool.
Avb Villas Boas.
Red map, Red Knap.
He took over from the guy that Ramos. Ramos.
That's the one he took off from, y'.
All. Martin Yoel.
He took over from Jack Santini.
Otter Burke.
We need one more before Santini.
104 games. Do you know who is Glenn Hoddle.
Super Glenn.
And we did them all. That's quite impressive.
And how many of them would you say you have to exclude Frank from that. Would you give a thumbs up too?
What for their time at Spurs.
Just. Just overall, would you be like. That was good pot.
Yeah. Red Nap.
Yeah, y'. All.
Yeah. Yo. Yeah. Horrible. I'm a. I don't know.
Huddle was good for what it brought the fans, like.
Yeah. Yeah.
But I think that list is Potch, Redknapp and y'.
All.
And I think the rest. It's a bit.
Probably not despite the cup. Mourinho, no. Vs. Boas, no. Conte, no. Ramos. No. Sherwood's got the highest win percentage of all of them.
Yes.
No. No. No. Santini. No. And Frank.
Yeah.
So far.
Good.
Good. Good.
Good knowledge.
Good knowledge to you mate. It's been a good week. Business. It's been a good season. Being a Spurs fan so far we've. It's enjoyable.
It's enjoyable.
It's predictable in not in a way we're going to win. Just in a way that it feels like there's a plan and it. It feels very Danish. This is how they do. You know. And it's going to be interesting to see. We've got bodo glimpsed again that after. So that's next Tuesday. That'll be a good game. Should be winning that away. And then we've got through the first two months of the year probably with one loss.
That's what I mean. And like I know that when we appointed Frank you did say look it might not be the most exciting but he's going to be good.
Yeah.
And early signs are showing exactly that and they're showing all the things that we felt were obviously missing. Feels like we're getting. So it's good. Luckily I'm just trying to. Let's just try and not get too carried away week by week. Let's have another good couple of results and just keep building like that. It's interesting because the rest of the Premier League I think it's a really interesting league this year because I think that you've got a lot of sides that there's not a lot in it and a lot of teams are set up quite well. But a lot of sides probably lack that cutting edge and that bit of quality up top. Yeah.
And I just realized City at ninth. They've only won two games this season. That's insane.
I I I think this season will be record breaking for the number of draws. That's interesting because I just think you've got a lot of teams that cancel each other out and like you've got the likes of like Fulham, Bournemouth, Brighton, Everton. These sides that are hard to beat but probably haven't got enough to win that many games. So I just think you're going to get a lot of one ones across the season.
Well what's interesting to me is the three big teams from last season who were not the surprise but meant to be kicking on. Newcastle, Villa Forest are doing awfully. Villa are in the bottom three. They're 18. They've. They scored one goal and that was today and they were pretty poor. Forest 15th sat their manager. Now they've got our old manager. Newcastle 13 sold their best player. They haven't replaced him properly. That's crazy to me.
And there's just a lot of teams like you look at goals scored and like like the teams that like a good. That are slight, you know a big bigger sides that are good sides but just lack that cutting edge up top. Like they're just not scoring enough goals. They're not. So I think it just makes for a slightly different season this year that actually maybe for the first time ever it's like your manager is your most important player. I know manager was important but you know what I mean like where games are going to be tight it's the decisions that they do or don't make that could be the. The thing that make it.
Before we finish. Can I ask you about Liverpool? Are they definitely going to win the league?
I think it looks. It looks hard to see how anybody stops them because they've just got so much firepower and they haven't. They haven't been that great this season and they've got five wins from five they've scored 11 goals. Like they look a little bit more suspect at the back but it's just the difference of like can you imagine being. Let's say you're a Sunderland and you go to Anfield and you keep it tight. Give them nothing after an hour and then they can go okay that's not working. Let's just sling on Chiesa Isaac do you know what I mean? SA or whatever. Like they can just make three or four attacking changes that are as good as the players that are already on the pitch and there aren't many sides in the league I think probably other than Liverpool that when you force them to go to the bench and make an attacking substitution as in you're taking a winger off and putting a wing. I don't mean changing formation. I mean you just swapping Liverpool's attacking players on the bench are. Are as good as their stars and everyone else. If for us if Kudis isn't doing it and we have to take him off you're putting on tell you're putting on Johnson. It's. It's not as effective. It's not. You've not got as good a player coming on so you'd think if that happens across the season those subs are not going to be as impactful but Liverpool is just like what you do. Do you know what I mean? Like how I like I don't know how you stop them and it's almost like slot basically it feels like it's taking the handbrake off and he's gone. You know what? We've got loads of attacking players and let's just play. You have a shot, we have a shot, and we're going to do it.
We'll win. So how would you manage? The ET and Isaac situation was 70 million, 80 million, whatever he was, that's a huge amount of money.
I think it's all right for him at the moment because Isaac's not fit. Do you know what I mean? So I think that does make his life a little bit easier. It's not like, oh, they're both firing. What one do I do? I think Eka at the moment looks great, like, and he's scoring in the game. So I think at the minute it's a case of there's so many games of football with early Carabao cup games, the Champions League, the Premier League, that they're both going to get minutes. So it's not. I don't. I don't think it's a you or me kind of thing. And I also think that what people are forgetting is AFCON is this season, isn't it? So, like, they're going to lose Salah for a period. So actually there's going to be points where they're probably playing together up there. So I. I don't think it's a difficult position for him to be in at the minute. I think the only. The only time really, it gets hard is if one of them really loses form and, like, if Ekatika all of a sudden stops scoring, he has to take it and he has to drop him. That makes it trick. I think if you've got two forwards that are both playing well, you just keep rotating. Like, it. It sort of looks after itself.
Yeah.
But it's an interesting one. I do think that he probably will find a way where they both play together. I like. That feels like the most obvious thing in the world.
Who do we lose? Kudas. Ghanaian. Anyone else?
Saul.
Yeah.
That'll be a loss. Both of them.
Yeah.
But if I'm totally honest with you, I don't. I don't know enough about the quality of the side. So they're going to go deep into the competition. Have they even qualified? Like, I just don't know. I don't know.
No, no, no, no. Cool. All right, man. It's a good time. Being a Spurs fan, I'm really enjoying it and it's good to be back.
To another week of good football and good results.
Football, good results. Good football. Good results. That. It's nice to Say, because we have another for a while. Mate. Always a pleasure. It's good to see you. I'll see you next week. And don't forget, future's bright, future's nearly white. Come on, you Spurs.
I always thought there was very, very many people interested in football. And I always thought that football was.
A very important game.
But I never realized until today just.
How important it is.
Whether the wonder boys of Pietheart Lane are or are not the team of the century can't possibly be more than a matter of opinion. Well, they're the finest team in Great Britain. One of the best in the world.
We are about the glory of the game. We are about playing with style. We are Tottenham Hotspur. The curve of the ball, the billow of the net, the beating of the trap and the picking of the lock. The swiftness of thought, the lightness of touch. We are Gineler, Greaves, Klinsman. We are the collective gasp, the intake of breath, the flick, the trick, the 30 yard free kick. We are Hodl, Mabbit and King. We are the lob, the chip, the dummy and the volley. We are the hat trick, the scissor kick. We are Bill Nick.
That is schoolboy's own stuff.
We are the outside of the boot, the inside of the net. And those seconds that last forever.
Van der Vaart to level it up. Rafael Van der Vaart. Two, two. It's quite a game, isn't it always?
We are Jennings, Defoe and Perriman. Glory past, glory future. What was, what is, what's next? We are Blanchflower, Ardelis and baal. We are about winning with a flourish. We are about winning with style. We are about the glory of the game. Daring to try, daring to risk, daring to dream, to dare is to do.
He's all over top and we're one of the top. He can really stop him going all the way again here. And man has kicked him out. Oh, this is incredible. This is quite incredible. Truly a glory, glory day for Tottenham Hotspur.
