Get over your fear and ask your questions

Ellen, a confidence coach, argues that asking questions signals strength, not weakness. She gives practical advice on when and how to ask in meetings and one-on-one conversations, drawing from a decade of helping women find their voice.
You've got to get over your fear of sounding dumb and ask your questions. I'm Ellen and I've spent the last decade coaching women on how to take up more space in their lives and careers. Asking legitimate questions is not a sign of incompetence. It's in fact a great sign of confidence. Women already find too many ways to stay silent and get overlooked. If you're in a one on one, there's a lot of opportunities to ask questions, but if you're in a meeting, it can be a little bit more challenging. So ask yourself does this question only apply to me or will I have the chance to ask this later on? If the answer to either of those is no, make sure that you ask your question. However, always be self aware. If you realize that you're dominating conversation or that the meeting's starting to run way over time, consider how else you might be able to get your questions answered. But make sure that you do get those answers. So go out there, ask your questions and take up the space that you deserve.
