Ellen, a career coach, argues you should apply for opportunities even when you don't feel fully qualified. She spent a decade helping women gain confidence at work and says recognizing your value and learning through risk-taking matters more than waiting to feel ready.
Did you know that men apply for jobs when they feel they're about 60% qualified, yet women feel they have to be perfect before they apply? I'm Ellen and I've spent the last decade coaching women on how to take up more space in their lives and careers. In this series, I'm teaching you how to take more credit for your success. I hate to break it to you. If you wait around to be perfect, other people are going to snap up opportunities and you're going to be left behind. Instead, it's important to recognize your value, know that learning is part of the process, and start putting yourself out there. Though you might not feel 100% confident that you're ready for a new position or a new role, you're probably more ready than you think. So it's always a good idea to apply just to see what happens. Worst case scenario, you'll learn how to take risks, put yourself out there and deal with failure. And these are all great skills to have in life. So go out there, put yourself forward for new opportunities, and take up the space that you deserve.
