This 1 Thing Helped Me Build My Self Esteem

Ellen shares what actually helped her build self-esteem: focusing on her own strengths instead of comparing herself to others. She breaks down how to stop the comparison trap and start recognizing what makes you different.
The moment I stopped comparing myself to others, I started building self esteem. I'm Ellen and I've spent the last decade coaching women on how to take up more space in their lives and careers. We're all unique and have our own strengths and weaknesses, but it's really easy to look at other people's successes and feel like we're never going to measure up. When I stopped comparing myself to others and instead focused on developing my own strengths and believed that I was making a unique contribution to the world just by being me, I was able to escape the prison of believing that I wasn't worthy to take up space in this world. The best thing that you can do is start with a list. On that list write down the things that you're great at, both at work and in your personal life. If you're struggling to come up with this list and I've been there, ask people that you trust what they like and admire about you. Once you've developed this list, keep it in the back of your mind because these are your superpowers. Focusing on these and sharing your gifts with others rather than comparing yourself to others and focusing on where you fall short will completely transform the way that you yourself see this will start to build your self esteem a little bit more every single day. Comparing yourself to others won't get you anywhere, so focus on your own beautiful life path. Take up the space meant for you and be the person that the world needs you to be.
