This is a YouTube video titled "Wharton Essay Tips #2" created in August 2024, featuring Ellen, an MBA coach, providing advice on how to approach Wharton's essay prompt about making meaningful contributions from personal, professional, and academic backgrounds. The content is a solo coaching talk focused on essay strategy and application tips for prospective MBA students.
Hey, it's Ellen, the MBA coach. And today I'm breaking down Wharton's essay too. Specifically, Wharton's asking how you can make specific, meaningful contributions from the personal, professional and or academic aspects of your background. So I like to think about bringing three different ways you can contribute here. I've seen essays work with 2 and 4, but really, overall 3 is the sweet spot. When choosing your examples, you want to think about specific things that allow you to make concrete contributions to Wharton. So, for example, if you're a successful entrepreneur, maybe you can share the lessons that you've learned along the way with other members of the entrepreneurship club. But I highly suggest focusing on multiple different aspects of your background. Don't just talk about your professional experience or your volunteer work. Try to mix it up. Additionally, when you're telling your stories, you want to make sure that you're using the STAR method so that you can clearly demonstrate the impact that you made and then concretely tie it to different offerings, clubs, or initiatives at Wharton to succeed. Stay focused, choose your examples wisely, and research Wharton. For more MBA essay tips that actually get you in, follow me.
