This is a YouTube video titled "What Is Your Proudest Achievement" created in April 2025. It features Ellen providing strategic advice on how to answer the common MBA interview question about one's greatest achievement. Ellen explains how to select and structure a compelling story using the STAR method to improve chances of admission to a top business school. The content is a solo instructional talk rather than a conversation.
Do you know how to answer? What is your greatest achievement in an MBA interview? If you don't answer this question strategically, you might be giving your competition an edge. I'm Ellen and I share all the best kept secrets you need to get into a top mba. The key to answering this question strategically is to bring in one of your best stories that you haven't shared yet, or to talk about one of the key elements of your profile that you haven't had the chance to talk about yet, even if you wouldn't necessarily call it your best accomplishment. So when you're asked this question, I think the best thing to do is take a beat. What have they already asked you and what do you still want them to know about you? Choose a story that aligns well with these answers. Once you've selected your example, use the star format to structure your answer. Describe the situation that was happening, the task you had to complete, the actions that you took to complete the task, and the results that you obtained using this framework helps your answer stay concise yet comprehensive, which is a big win. For example, you might say, in a previous role, I led a team to develop a new product line. As the product manager, I had to coordinate multiple moving parts. To do that, I implemented a new communication system and had multiple check ins to make sure everyone stayed aligned. As a result, we launched the product on time, 15% under budget, and it went on to become one of our company's top selling items. By using this question to add one of your best examples, not necessarily what you're exactly proudest of, you're one step closer to getting into your top choice business school.
