This is a YouTube video titled "Yale Essay Tips #2" created in August 2024, providing guidance on how to approach Yale's essay prompt about describing a meaningful community. The content is a monologue or instructional talk focusing on essay writing strategies, including using the STAR format and aligning responses with Yale's values.
And here's what you need to know about the second option for Yale's essay. One, they ask you to describe the community that has been most meaningful for you. Specifically how you've gained from the community and what you've contributed to the community. So when you're thinking about this, I think it's a great prompt because it's open ended enough that you could talk about some religious community you're a part of, a volunteer initiative, a team at work. Really anything could work here as long as you can demonstrate why it's meaningful. It could also be something you were part of for a long time or a short amount of time. When you're thinking about examples though, first think about how you specifically can contributed to this community. If you just sat in on a meeting, that's not really going to cut it or make a great essay here. Second, how did belonging to this community impact you? You want to think of something meaningful that you can share about how it helped you grow as a person or a leader. And finally, think about how the involvement in the community aligns with Yale's values and culture. If you're not sure about their culture, do a little research in advance. And then finally, I highly suggest that you choose a star format because that's going to be the best way to share your example.
