You Have to do This One Thing to Advance Your Career

Ellen, a career coach, argues that protecting dedicated time for self-development is essential to advance your career. She emphasizes scheduling growth activities and setting firm boundaries around that time so nothing else crowds it out.
If you don't invest time in yourself, you're never going to advance in your career. I'm Ellen and I've spent the last decade coaching women on how to take up more space in their lives and careers. Instead of focusing all of your energy on just finishing tasks, block out time in your agenda for self development. Literally block out this time in your schedule or it will not happen. Trust me. Whether you use this time for studying a new topic, getting a degree, or even networking, investing, this time will help energize you and make this improvements that will help you get ahead. When you get requests that impede on this time, practice saying no. It's so easy for a quick, quick favor to turn into a one hour phone call and all of a sudden before you know it, your entire day has disappeared. For me, as the owner of a million dollar company, I know that I won't have time to invest in projects that I'm passionate about and that will improve my company if I spend Monday to Friday and back to back calls all day long. So blocking out time for me to take a step back from calls and work on these types of projects is good for me and it's good for the company. Whatever you decide to use this time for, defend it with your life. I promise you this is the key to your success. For more tips on how to take up more space in your life and career, follow me.
