From Night Shifts to $9K/Month in Remote Sales

Skye left six years of 12-hour mining shifts to earn $9,000 a month in remote sales within eight weeks, with no prior experience. She credits "delusional confidence," high-volume dialing, and daily booking targets for the jump from setter to closer. Her advice: stop making excuses and focus on progress.

Hi guys, welcome back to the channel. We are joined with a very lovely guest today. Welcome, Skye. Hi. We have another client case study. We are doing amazing with these at the minute. It is incredible to see how many women are absolutely killing it from the Female Sales Accelerator. I started working with Skye. So Skye is US-based Right. Is that right? Or are you Canadian? You're US-based, right?
I'm Canadian-based, but like US citizen.
Ah, okay. A bit of both. So I started working with Skye September, so a few months ago. At the time, Skye was working in the mining industry. She'd worked in the mining industry for 6 years. She was working 12-hour days split between days and night shifts. So her schedule was pretty all over the shop. Which is super hard in itself, like to even work that job alone, let alone to like bring sales into the mix is incredible. But Skye was always so determined. I remember when I met Skye on our roadmap call and she was like sat in the dark in her car, I think ready to either start her shift or finish her shift. And I remember thinking, wow, like this girl really does have her work cut out for her. But when you have the fire like Skye did, it was really clear to see. She came in, she followed the plan, she stuck to it. And that has been what's made her sit here today and been able to help her transition out of her job so quickly. This case study will resonate with so many women, especially those who are working the hard jobs, doing the long shifts. Maybe you're doing your night shifts and you're coming home exhausted and you just feel like there's no way out, Skye is here to show you that there is, and she's absolutely killed it. She's gone on to make 9K months in sales as a top performer setter and has now been promoted into a closing role within 8 weeks of working with the company she's with now. I'm so excited to have this case study today and to sit down with Skye to allow her to share her journey. So yeah, let's get into it. I'd love for you to take us back, Skye, and share your background. Like, what were you doing before sales, and what led you to want to pursue a career in sales?
Um, yeah, so I was just in mining for 6 years, like you mentioned, and, um, just like working remotely is something that I always loved. Like, I, I did a 9 to 5 when I was— right before I went into mining, didn't love it, so So then I went to shift work and I realized I never want to go back to a 9 to 5 again. But yeah, after 6 years in the mining industry, it's— realized it wasn't really going to be sustainable for me and kind of the lifestyle that I wanted. I wanted even more flexibility, but obviously wanted the income there as well. So yeah, just like most people, I think getting into sales, I saw it come up online and I was looking at different options, how to get started, came across your program, Shelley Young. And I just love how, because especially coming from mining, I was dealing with a lot, I worked with a lot of men, very male-dominated industry. And I was going into something completely different. I was like, I need someone who's going to be super authentic and one-on-one with me because leaving such a, how do you say, mindset that I was in of It was like, you have to be kind of dominant. I was like, I need someone to kind of take over that from me, which— is that kind of makes sense? So I came across you. I loved it. I was like, I think that I can actually learn something here. And yeah, I kind of just jumped right in because I was so determined to get out of mining. But also I wanted— like, I have this goal of the life I want, and it does not include a 9 to 5 at all, but it did not include mining either. So I just jumped right in. I was like, the days, like, I was working like 16-hour days with sales, but I told myself, I was like, it's temporary. And that's kind of the only— I still tell myself that. I'm like, this is temporary, it's temporary. And that's kind of what just pushes me through and now what allows me to continue on growing.
Yeah, I love that. And why sales, do you think? Was it just the lifestyle it could provide, or did you have sales experience in the past? Like, what drove you to this industry?
Yeah, um, no sales experience at all. I was— when I saw it, I was kind of like laughing to myself. I'm like, can I even— I have no idea, because I've like— I haven't been— I was not the kind of person that was like could talk to people easily at all. Like, even my sister would say, she's like, I don't know, she's like, what are you doing? But I was like, I don't know, I think I can just— I just want to like do something. I, I wanted to challenge myself and to like prove to myself that I can do something differently and kind of like be in control of it, if like that makes sense. So, um, yeah, I was like, sales looks like— I wanted to work for myself, I wanted to make my own hours, and I wanted to make money. I was like, why not? Why can't I do it? And I love it.
Yeah, yeah, 100%. It's so funny, it's like goes against everything. Like, I speak with so many women who's like, but I don't have sales experience, but I don't have time because I work long hours, but I'm not that confident talking to people. And you've just gone, no, no, no, batted those objections away. I'm like, I'm gonna do it. Um, and sometimes you've got to have that delusion. I think I very much share that with you. Like, there was no reason at all that I, or you, right, should have been successful in this. Like, we had no quote-unquote on-paper experience. But I think when you have the sheer determination that you want more and that you don't want to stay the same That is the driving force. That is what makes you successful, do you think?
100%, yeah. And even some of the girls on my, um, offer, they're like, Skye, like, can you— like, I want to be next top setter. Like, what are you doing? And I just tell them, I'm like, yeah, I'm just like super delusional. I just always tell myself, I'm like, you just have to tell yourself like, I know what I'm talking about, and I'm— and I'm gonna make this person think I know what I'm talking about. And I just got that from you because you always said you're like, be the person that you want to be. So that's what I've just been doing. I'm like, I'm gonna pretend like I'm already making $30K months until I actually get there.
So 100%, it sounds so silly when you say it, but if you know, you know. Like, it's like, don't act as if where you're spending above your means, like on your credit card, like that's not what we're saying. It's like, act as if in your mindset, like you are already that woman. Like, we don't have to wait. I've spoken a lot about this recently, um, with the the video I did with Georgia, like, you don't have to wait to be that woman. You don't have to save your nice perfume until you're that woman, or your nice face masks, or whatnot. You are her. So as long as you just show up with her with that mindset, like, what would Skye who's making $9K a month do? You're just gonna get there. What would Skye who's a closer going to do? You're just gonna get there. So on and so forth. It's pretty crazy, isn't it, when you think about it?
Yeah. And I actually, like, just thinking about it all because I was making good money mining. But like, I was just making good money going mining, having my days off. Like, that was the lifestyle I was doing for 6 years, and that's kind of what I saw. I was like, I'm not going anywhere. So, um, especially like, I feel like once you make good money, it's hard to like want to make a change. And it's very— it was very unusual for me because I'm a very realistic person. Like, I was always very good with my money, always like very cautious, and then me going out of side of what I, what I was doing, out of like my structure. So it was, it was very scary. I was like, what am I— like, because I left mining to do this full-time. I was like, but you— I realized that you kind of have to, you have to do those things. Like, um, and it changed me and my mindset like dramatically. Like, I've grown not even just in sales but as a person. Like, having that shift um, like mentally to just kind of like put yourself out there and believe that you can do something and that you're going to do something. So it's been, it's been a huge growth, not even just in sales but for myself as well.
Yeah, 100%. And for you obviously to come to me and want to invest in mentorship, like what sparked that? Because that's not always the normal thing, you know, like there's a lot of controversy online with, you know, investing in online. Like we've never met in person, you know what I mean? It's all been virtual, so What made you do that?
Um, well, like, I've done courses in the past, like, but I've never finished anything. I just, like, kind of something I've done. I've always been like, started something but never finished it. And I think that's like the one thing I told you, I was like, I want to like prove myself wrong and finish something that I start and to kind of take the leap into, like you said, like, I don't know you, why am I giving you money? But, um, I think that's kind of like again, a mindset you have to have. Like, I was always the kind of person, like, you have to spend money to make money. You kind of have to take a risk to see rewards. So I was like, I'm not going to get anywhere until I actually do something about it because I'm not going to get there on my own. Like, I've tried it, it's just, it wasn't working. So I, I wanted to get there quicker, and I knew that I had to, to do something, invest into myself to get there.
100%. And I guess on that note, I'd love to know how you feel I and the Female Sales Accelerator have supported you on this journey.
Yeah, it's been amazing. I've made so many good friends too, you know, like even just outside of sales, like just like personal friendships. And it's been great. Like, like, you know, life gets busy with like your family, your friends, like here, like at home, they're not— they always can't always be there. But like my sales girls have always been there. You've always been there. So it's been very nice, especially for myself, like because like I said, like mining is very male dominated. So for me, struggled pretty much my entire life to, like, connect with women, which I would make— which is hard for me because I always wanted to, but just because of, you know, my lifestyle, I just never really learned how. So like going into this, into the Female Silhouette Accelerator, everything like that, it's been, it's been really nice. I feel like I've kind of just embraced my femininity again and had new friendships that I love.
So yeah, 100%. That's amazing to hear. Yeah, I do remember you saying that, like, for you, community was a big thing. Because you didn't have that in your previous job. So for you to have thrived in that community, and I think community is so key, right? But the right community, like the right girls who are genuinely kind and supportive, um, is, is huge. Um, so I'm really glad to hear that because that's something I didn't have on my journey, that I— the reason I created the program. Was there an area of the program you felt has specifically contributed to your success? Like, what was your I guess, favorite part of it aside from the community?
Well, I definitely love the live calls we do because I feel like they're looking at all the modules that are there, which is super nice to have to go back to because I still go back to them and I'm always like— So I love looking at them, but then doing the live sales calls has been great because when we do the Q&A and the role playing, it's great to see even if I'm not asking questions or role playing like others, when I see them or they're asking questions, that's— that for me personally has been like huge help because it's like I never even thought about that or I never thought about doing something like that. So to see other people ask those questions, to see them do it, it— that it's in itself gave me like a lot of knowledge, um, which has been super helpful.
Yeah, 100%. I love that. I know we spoke earlier about delayed gratification. Like for you, I remember you literally showed up most sessions, obviously it was super early for you, like some of them because of your work, but you showed up to nearly all of the sessions. You were always asking me questions. You were always following the plan. And there is that teething period, right? Because we typically say for anyone watching this, it's typically 4 to 8 weeks is the timeline until you land your first role. Now, for anyone watching that could be like, oh, 4 to 8 weeks, that goes super quick. Like, that's amazing. But when you're in it, you feel like that's 4 to 8 years. Like it's the longest time of your life. So talk to us about that, like how you felt on that journey before you really did land that first role.
Yeah, I mean, I think you pretty much nailed it. It felt like forever. I was like, oh my God. Because when you get in there and looking for jobs, waiting, you're like, what the heck? It's never going to come. The right one's not going to come. But once it did, I don't even remember the last 2 months. It happened so quick. And I remember you saying that too in the beginning, like when I first started, you said once it starts, like it goes fast. So like enjoy the journey. And I can fully see it now because until I got my job, because I wanted like, I know I didn't want to be too picky, but I wanted one that I like felt comfortable with. And it felt like forever until that first job came. But once it came, it it took off like super fast, so.
100%. What would be your advice to girls watching it with that mindset? Like, because it's so easy to see everyone on social media, 'cause there's a lot of social media presence now in high ticket sales, like making these quick money months and traveling and doing X, Y, Z. And obviously for you, when you were at that start, you weren't seeing that, or you were probably seeing all the girls on the wins board posting, posting, posting. So what would be your advice if someone's maybe in the thick of it right now with that?
Um, I mean, it's definitely don't compare yourself. Like, that's— and it's definitely like, I feel like with sales in specific, it's very much you versus you.
Yeah.
Um, and it's easier said than done because obviously like fighting yourself is like the hardest thing in life that you can do. But you definitely have to have a strong mindset in sales and you have to keep thinking um, like it's temporary. I literally wrote it down around me, like it's temporary, it's temporary, it's temporary, and you just cannot compare. And when I caught myself comparing, I— you have to not— you have to shift out of it. You have to just focus on you and be supportive of other people because it's gonna come back, it's gonna come back to you. You just have to keep pushing, you just got to keep going, you got to trust the journey.
And that's so hard when you're seeing other people win. As much as we want to spread the love, let's be real, It is so hard. I get messages from girls all the time like, everyone else has got a job but me. And I'm like, and then the next day it's like, oh, I found a job. I'm like, yes, that's how it works. It is really just trusting your input and then the outputs will come. Would you say?
100%. Yeah. Especially if you're like a pretty competitive person like me. I find myself pretty competitive. I'm like, oh, I got to get there. But no, you got to Yeah, you just got to be supportive. Like, like you said, it's going to be hard, but you got to just wait because once it comes, you're going to be like, oh my God, my job's actually better than hers. Or don't think like that.
I'm just kidding. But I know what you mean. Yeah, 100%. Like, it is, it is very real. Like, no one wants to admit it, but it is real. Like, especially in this game. I say most of us are competitive because we're in sales, like it's commission only. So you have to have that fire about you. So yeah, it's very valid. And for you, obviously, you went into an offer and within like 8 8 weeks, just over 8 weeks, you got promoted to a closer. Now, just a bit of a brief overview for everyone watching: most people want to start off as a closer, right? And when you come into my program, you can do what you want. You get the option. I always give you my advice, but you get the option of whether you want to start as a setter or a closer. Now, for you, Sky, I remember saying I recommend you becoming a setter because your schedule was so tight that the quickest way for you to transition out of your job was doing that, which, I mean, it's obviously it's true. So I'm really happy that's paid off for you. So what did you think of that first of all, coming in as a setter? Were you open to it or did you want to become that closer first of all?
Um, I mean, I think everyone always wants to become like the top person, right? You want to make the most money, you want to be a closer. And but I definitely kind of like had a little reality check. I'm like, I don't even know what I'm doing, right? So, um, I didn't want to do it, but I kind of had to just be realistic a little bit and be like, okay, you literally need to practice, right? Because I remember seeing some of the girls in the program too. They came from sales backgrounds or corporate backgrounds, and even just role-playing with them, I'm like, oh, you've done this before. So it was just kind of like, I got to just take baby steps until I get those big shoes on. But it happened so quick, so it was nice. And Like going into closing now, just from what I learned from setting, I can already see it's going to be like a way easier transition to do. So like just watching and learning, I'm like, oh, it's because they go hand in hand. It's just like a longer conversation, closing.
100%. You've literally followed the plan perfectly. Like for all girls coming in who have literally got no prior sales experience whatsoever, no corporate, nothing, we would typically recommend the setting route, but you have followed it perfectly in that way. Like we're We're not talking setting for 6 months, we're talking setting for 8 weeks, like, just to really give you that confidence. Um, and obviously now you've had your promotion. Like, how did it feel being told about that?
It was, um, honestly surprising because I think I shared it in the, in the group as well, like, because other setters around me were like getting promoted to setter manager or stuff like that. And I was like, oh, like, am I not working hard enough? Like, I don't know what else I can do, but I just, like I said, I didn't want to compare, so I just kept going. Kept pushing, and then when I got told, I was like, nice, your hard work's paid off.
Yeah, 100%. No, I love that. And it is, honestly, I know I've said it a few times, but your journey is such an inspiration because you have literally, you've gone from what seems from the outside impossible, right? Even I was like, gosh, she's got to work hard, to coming out of that, quitting your job. How long did it take you to quit your job? Like 2 months, was it?
Yeah. And I didn't— I wasn't even like— because I was traveling lots before that, I wasn't even in like the best financial situation to quit my job. But I was just like, well, frig, if I want this as quick as I want it, I gotta— I kind of just had to do it. So I did it.
100%. How do you see yourself differently now? Like, has that changed anyway? Maybe your confidence and your outlook on yourself?
Definitely. Yeah, I definitely feel it's been a huge confidence booster, especially coming from like my previous job where I worked so hard, but I didn't ever get like recognized for it. And then with sales, like just getting the recognition and from the hard work you put in is that in itself is huge for me personally because I never got that in my 6 years and getting it in like 2 months of sales because you work for your— like you essentially work for yourself. And you're just growing yourself into like this industry is— it's been, it's been massive. It's been— it feels really good.
100%. No, I can tell. I can tell by your energy, like speaking to you now compared to a couple of months ago before you were more, I guess, introverted, I would say more shy, a little bit more quiet, whereas now it's like energy. So I 100% see that. Have you— would you say there's any like big lessons that you've learned on this journey, maybe for women watching this who are beginners? Like, what's been your biggest lesson or learning so far?
Um, my biggest lesson, uh, I don't know. It's all been like just such a huge learning curve for me. So I think, yeah, I think you just— the lessons you learn are kind of, I think, more like— I feel like they're more like personal to each person. Like, the biggest lesson I've learned for me is like a lot of the internal work. So like The way I talk, the way I communicate with people, that's been a huge lesson for me. Like, it's helped me in sales and in my day-to-day life. And just like the outlook I see altogether, it's just been like a huge learning curve of just like, you gotta keep going. And you just— yeah, I don't know, it's hard to explain it. I think it's all like a personal thing, but it's been great. Even the girls I like, I made friendships with, like, I can see them growing as well in their own ways. And it's been It's been really great.
I think it's super powerful for women to be able to have that outlet where you can grow and you can build that confidence. Like, I would say for myself on a personal level, I was raised in a household where my mum was like the biggest cheerleader. So I mean, I was very lucky that me and my sister grew up with a lot of confidence. Like, we can do anything we put our mind to, like walk on water if we wanted to, but I've actually realized over the past couple of years, like a lot of women don't have that confidence, like different outlooks, different upbringings, whatnot. And that's not okay. Like, I think women more than ever, especially in the world we live in, need to be able to have a voice, be able to put themselves in a room, ask for more, ask for the promotion, financially be able to provide for themselves so they can always leave a situation, feel good in themselves. So I think it's a big one, right? That like sales, even if women do sales for 6 months to a year, just to get that alone, that skill set and that outlook on yourself is for life. What is your perspective on that?
100%. Yeah. And like, especially if you don't have that like support system going into it. Like my family was like super loving, supportive, but they didn't really understand what I was doing. Um, so it was, it definitely was like a pretty solo journey doing this. Yeah. Um, and like just having that community obviously has been huge for me, but like people won't get it. Like they won't get it. They're like, they're like, what are you doing? Like they didn't understand what I was selling. They didn't understand why I was doing this. Like, and I just gotta block it out. Not in like a rude way, but you gotta be like, I know what I'm doing and you'll see when I get there.
So I think that is the most common theme amongst every single person who I've spoken to on this journey. Like even my best friend to this day, she's like, I have no idea, but I love that for you because most people still don't get it. Like, it's so funny, isn't it? Because we are so immersed in it. We think everyone must know what this is, but the world still hasn't caught up to what's actually what this is and what the possibility is. Would you say?
100%. Yeah. And it's funny too, especially in the early stages like I'm in, just trying to establish yourself. You're constantly working. I'm constantly on my phone or I'm at home. I'm like, I can't come out. I can't do anything, guys. Not for 3— give me 3 months. And they're just like, what do you mean? Or I'll be out for dinner. They're like, you're on your phone. I'm like, yeah, but just wait. Just give me a bit. You'll see. I definitely lost some friends though so far, and I was like totally okay with that. I'm like, it's all good because I got, I got somewhere to be and it's— you're in my way.
100%. Yeah, no, me too. And so many girls I've spoken with on this journey doing these cases as well has like you'll— the right people will stay around and that's the beauty of it. And like you said, you've lost some friends, but you've gained a bunch too through the community and through this journey. And I love that about sales because for me, I don't know about you, like I knew I wanted more, but I almost felt quite isolated for so long because no one else ever understood what that was. And I was almost kind of like the delusional person. And then when you're like around your people and you can be like, oh yeah, I wanna make 20K, like, and the people are like, oh yeah, you should, you can do that. And not like, what are you on about? It's kind of crazy. It's like, it pushes you to be better almost, would you say?
100%. Yeah. And it's definitely true what they say, like, your environment, like, will shape you and has a big impact on you. Like, and I think that was another huge, like, obstacle for me because, like you said, like, people around you, they're not getting it. They're just so— it can almost make you limit yourself, be like, oh, like, because there's no one there, like, all the time, right? So that's why I kind of— I come back to the people who know what we're doing here. So it's nice to have. It's like, it's been huge because once you kind of leave the computer, leave like the community, you're just like, you're like, you almost like doubt, doubt yourself because of the environment you're in until you get out of there.
So 100%, I agree. Obviously, like we touched on, your first few months in sales is hard work. And I always say that, I always say give it 6 months, 6 months of graft to then build literally your dream life. So you're in it right Now you're in the thick of it. So what's a day in the life like as a setter promoting to a closer?
Well, for me, because I do, I pretty, I literally work all the time. We can take one day off on my offer, but I do not do that unless I absolutely need to. So I work every day. I work, I do like 500 dials. That's dramatic. I do 500 dials one day a week, but like for the most of it, I do like 300. And I always like hold myself to a standard of like, I need to get at least 3 bookings. And then on the days I'm doing $500, I need to get like 10. So I always, I have that standard for myself and I'm like, and if I don't hit it, I'm hard on it myself for it. I'm like, why didn't I do that? Or why didn't I work harder? So yeah, I'm constantly on my phone. I'm constantly working until I don't have to work as hard anymore.
Wow, that's insane. Just for context, everyone watching this, the industry average is like $150. So you're really like here getting down to business. I love that. That's what I love about the community. Like, I think we really attract a certain type of woman, like, that just wants to work hard and is not shy of that to really build their dream life. And I think it's so worth it, right? Because it's like we said, it's not forever. You're not going to be glued to your phone for the rest of your life. Like, it's, it's really allowing that momentum. Like, if you've been given the opportunity, why not take it? Like, I'm exactly the same as you, um, to then reap the rewards in the year or 2 years. Is that kind of what you're thinking?
100%. Yeah, it's— yeah, pretty much nailed it. It's exactly the gut— gut feeling. I think so.
100%. What do the people around you think? Like, I know you said people don't really understand, like, right now. Your family, maybe— are they shocked? Have you told them that you've hit, you know, 9K a month? Or—
yeah, they were definitely, like, surprised, because, like I said, especially, like, my daddy was, like, super skeptical. He's like, what are you doing? Like, I, like, I haven't, like, he never understood what I was doing. And, um, but once I told him, because I didn't even realize I hit $9K until I got my, my paycheck, because I thought it was like, I thought it was at least like $6K. I was like, yeah, this has been like a huge month. Then I got my paycheck, I'm like, oh my God. And they were, they were shocked too. And it was, it was, it was nice. It was great to see them like kind of realize that like what I'm doing is actually something that's going to be gonna be big.
Yeah, totally. It's always the dads. The dads are always skeptical. My dad was so skeptical because my sisters did like the normal education background, and there was me like lost and didn't know what to do. And my mum was like, okay, just, just do it. Don't tell your dad, like, you just figure it out. And then when I used to show my dad my paychecks, he'd be like, he loves, he loves it now. He tells everyone like, oh, my daughter made $20K a month. I'm like, you can't tell the neighbors that. Like, that's not a normal thing to do. So it is funny, isn't it, to see how your parents go from like, what are you doing? To like, oh my goodness. Like, they see what's possible.
Yeah, it's nice. It's nice to like prove yourself wrong, but then also kind of like prove the ones who didn't think that it was going to be anything wrong too.
So yeah, 100%. I'd love to know, Scott, like if someone would have told you, you know, when you joined the program back in September, if someone would have told you, you would have been doing one of these case studies so soon? Like, would you have believed them?
Definitely not. No, not at all. It's, um, yeah, it's— it definitely— it still feels like it's just been crazy how fast it's— it's— it happened. And I still like, just like that. It's been— it's been great though.
Yeah, 100%. What are your goals from here? Obviously we're in February now, so really the start of 2026. Like, what are you looking to achieve over the next Um, well, just complete financial freedom.
Like, I would love to be like, I really want to progress and grow as a closer. And, um, yeah, I just want to take off from there and just like not have to worry about money, not have to worry about anything anymore. So they definitely, I'm going to push myself hard because the goal to finish the year off is to be there and to be that person.
100%. I love that for you. And if someone's watching this, maybe the Sky 6 months ago watching this case study thinking like, I can't do this because I'm too busy, I can't do this because I'm exhausted, I can't do this because I've never done sales, what would you say to them?
I'd say stop complaining and just do it. But that's the mindset I have. Like, I'm, I'm really hard on myself and And I feel like that's been huge for me. Like, I feel like if you're someone who is making those little excuses, like, you gotta, you gotta just do it or else you're not gonna get anywhere.
100%. You are totally in control of your own life, right? You are the person who writes the rule book.
100%. I love it.
Skye, thank you so much. This has been an absolute pleasure to sit down and chat with you. And like I said a gazillion times, this is going to be such an inspiration. Like, I cannot wait to share this case study, so thank you.
Thank you, Shelley Young.
