Why You Dream Big But Never Actually Start

Shelley Young shares why big dreamers never start: they mistake fear for waiting for the right time. She landed a high-ticket sales job with zero experience by taking one imperfect action among 150 applicants, then built success through messy, uncomfortable daily work. Confidence comes from action, not the other way around.

If you dream big but somehow never actually start, this video is going to explain exactly why and how to fix it, because I have been there for years and I really, really wanna share this formula so you can break this pattern. Because you probably think the problem is discipline, that other people just want it more than you, or that they were born with something that you weren't, that if you were just less lazy, you would've started by now and achieved your dream life. It is not discipline. The gap between dreaming about your life and actually starting it is almost always one thing, and it is fear wearing the costume of waiting for the right time. I know this because I was 23 and I had a dream, and I did nothing about it for literally so long because I was terrified and I had zero experience. So let me show you what finally got me to start and how you can start before you've you feel ready so you can stop watching people live your dream life and actually start living it yourself. Because you deserve that. You deserve to build a life that fulfills you and that truly, truly makes you happy. So here's the trap. It's quite a sneaky one because it doesn't feel like a trap, but when you dream big and you do a lot of things, you feel like you're progressing. So you research, you plan, You save the videos. You make the list of all the things you'll do once you start, and it all feels so productive. You go to bed feeling like you've moved the needle forward, but you didn't move the needle forward. You circled dreaming and planning, and dreaming and planning gives you the feeling of progress without the risk of starting. And that is what keeps 80% of people stuck. And this, this is what I did for such a long time. That's exactly why you're comfortable, because you stay where you are. You get the dopamine rush of dreaming and planning, but you never actually execute. And you spend years there because executing is petrifying. It's so scary. It's risky. And me saying that will be very direct to some of you, and you may not have liked it either, and you may even want to click off the video. But it's the truth. You're convincing yourself that you're productive, that you're doing so much and you're working towards your goals, but you're not. You do it in small bursts of motivation and then you drop it for something else that's new and shiny, and you're left feeling sad until you go through the motions and do it all over again. And like I said, I can confidently say this and confidently be direct with you because I did it for years. I can spot the pattern of someone doing it like this, and it is very, very hard to break because it It takes you being very conscious of that pattern and you actually taking action. So let's name what's actually happening because you can't beat it while you're still dressed up in the costume of it. It says it's not the right time. It says I need to learn more about it first. It says once I've saved up more, once things have calmed down, once I've done the vacation, once I feel ready. It'll be good. These all sound responsible. These all sound very logical in your mind. They sound mature. But be honest with yourself for a second. Most of them are fear dressed up as patience. The right time is a story we tell ourselves that we never find the time. We never find the actual right time to make it happen, because if we try, we might find out that we're not good enough. We might find out that it failed and it didn't work. And I have not only experienced this myself, I have taken thousands of thousands of sales calls with some people telling me these excuses. And it's only when I've persevered and really broke it down, 100% of the time, like I promise you, 100% of the time, they have turned around to me and said, yeah, I'm just scared. Now, not all those people still started. They did let Some of them let their fear take over them, but that was always the root cause. You may even look at me now and think, well, she has it all figured out. It's very easy for her to say this. But let me tell you about the day I actually started, because it was not glamorous. It was not the right moment. If anything, you could logistically say it was the wrong moment to get started. So I was a nanny. I was making £12 an hour. That day I had a car bill that was £6,000, and I had no idea how to pay it. I just invested in a mentorship to get into high-ticket sales, so the money that I paid there could have gone towards my car bill literally like 2 or 3 days later, and it didn't. And I was— I felt like literally the whole world was coming on top of me. I saw an ad for a job, and it was for a high-ticket setter, and I— everything in me literally told me, you are not qualified, You do not have the experience. Who do you think you are? So, I clicked off it, carried on with my day thinking, how on earth am I going to pay this car bill? And then around 6 hours later, I thought, just apply. Like, what is the worst that can happen? There is no way you're going to get the job. Just apply. There were 150 applicants for that spot. I was terrified. Even filling out the application, it took me like an hour. I was absolutely petrified. I got a message back within 30 minutes. I got an interview within 2 hours, and I started the next day. I got the job out of 150 applicants. I was like mind blown. This whole time I was going to tell myself not to do it, and I was about to not do it, and I did it. And that's the secret. I didn't wait until the fear was gone. I moved while it was still there. And let me tell you, that was So scary to get on that interview and to sell myself to a job that I had no experience for. I was petrified, but I did it. And I truly believe that was the universe rewarding me for taking imperfect action out of my comfort zone. Can you imagine if I would have let my emotions hold me back in that opportunity? Because emotions are often masked as logic. but when you really strip that back, they're not, they're emotions. And I want to be really honest, because this is the part that most people leave out. When I started, it was messy. I had no experience, I had no idea what I was doing. My first paycheck was £900.50, and there was a time of that, like, isolated period when I was exhausted. I was working 6 AM till 6 PM, Monday to Friday. I was coming home, I was working a sales job after that. I was trying to maintain my life, keep my apartment clean, cook, work out, and everything in between. I was absolutely exhausted. It wasn't good immediately. I wasn't rich overnight. No one is. The dream sells you the very clean before and the very clean after, but the thing is, no one talks about the messy middle. And that middle part is so, so messy, where you're bad, where you're scared, but you keep Showing up anyway, and you do the hard things that pushes you outside of your comfort zone. If I would have waited to feel ready, I would never have got started in the first place. You get good by being bad. You get good by starting anyway and learning and growing as you go. So if you're actually serious about achieving your goals, like truly serious in your heart that you want to achieve your goals, here's what I want you to do. Because big dreams don't get started by massive big leaps of faith. They get started by one small action at a time, sometimes even too small to even be scary. You don't need a whole plan. You don't need the 5-year version, the 5-year business plan that everyone tells you to write. You just need to take steps every single day. Take steps. Send the message, fill out the application, have the conversation, post the thing, Book the call. That one step makes it real time and time again, and that is the whole difference between the women who are living the life that you see—not because of the talent, not because of the motivation, because of the action—and to where you are now. Just like me when I booked the call, I booked the call with a sales mentor. I was scared. I didn't know if I would join, if I was not. I didn't know if I can afford it, if I couldn't. I just did it. I was scared, but I took my first leap of action. And for you all wanting to feel confident first, please, please, please hear me on this, because it's the thing that I wish someone has told me. I did not become confident and then start. Like, I did not become confident and then start. I became confident because I started. Knowledge is confidence. Action is confidence. The confidence is on the other side of the action you take, not before it. You will never feel ready enough scrolling on your sofa. You will feel ready when you start taking the action. When you're scared, when you're doing it badly, when it feels petrifying, that's okay. So stop waiting to become the woman who's ready and start taking steps to become her instead. So if you've been dreaming about a different mind for a while and you really want to take the small step, I've put a link down below of my honest experience getting in high-ticket sales so you can see my journey A to Z and you can see exactly what it looked like. If you've already seen that, then you can also book a call with my team down below and have a chat. No pressure. It's imperfect action. Take it, have the conversation, and see where it leads. I'll see you in the next one.
