Vanessa and Xander share that Vanessa's father was diagnosed with stage four bladder cancer after a recurrence. Planned surgery was called off when doctors found the cancer had spread widely. He's now starting chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and the couple talks through how they're managing emotionally and what they need from their community.

Questions this episode answers

Low-grade bladder cancer, diagnosed about a year and a half ago; treated with BCG.

Surgeons found widespread spread (stomach, pelvic floor area, and lymph nodes) so they closed and aborted the planned bladder removal; cancer deemed stage four.

A chemo + immunotherapy combination (immunotherapy highlighted as primary hope).

Approximately 30–40% of people achieve full remission with that immunotherapy/chemo combination (as stated in the episode).
