How a woman makes $18,000 a month teaching knitting using Zoom

Will presents a case study of a 47-year-old female client who earns roughly $18,000/month from a knitting course and online community. Her primary acquisition channel is weekly YouTube videos; she sells a $997 annual membership (community + course + group calls) and averages about 15–20 sales per month, producing roughly $15k–$20k monthly. Will credits two simple levers for scaling her from about $6k/month to ~$18–20k: raising price (from the low-$300s to $997) and changing sales messaging/angle to emphasize community, relationships, and escaping loneliness. Will frames this as a broadly replicable model and references his own e-learning track record (grew a company to $16.4M and sold it).

Hey guys, it's Will. And I've got a client who's 47 years old. She is a woman. She makes roughly $18,000 per month with her knitting course and community.
She does it all from home. And I've never had so many messages, emails, whatsapps people tell me all the time I was having dinner with someone recently, they said, well tell me about the knitting woman. I can't believe the money that she's making with this. How does she do it, who is she? So on and so forth.
This is by far, this is the thing that people say to me all the time when I speak at Mastermind events when I meet people for the first time. A lot of clients that come on board and ask me to coach them one to one, they always say oh wow, it was the knitting lady. It was this knitting lady. And it's so funny because I just for those of you who haven't seen my how I'd make 10k per month asap video, I mentioned her for the first time in that video that I made about a year ago and it was so unplanned, so off cuff. And that was the video that introduced this lady to all of you. Or maybe you're finding about finding out about this lady for the first time in this video. Well, if you are, I'm going to tell you what she's doing, how she's doing it, how much money she's making, what she's charging, how she gets customers, how it all started.
I'm going to tell you everything in this video and the reason that I'm making this video is because I think the reason that this resonates with people is because it's just such an a good example of how simple and easy it is to make 10k, 20k, 30k plus per month these days in this online education, online coaching, online course and now community as well space. So hopefully this can highlight the simplicity and I think if there's one thing that you take from this video it will probably be the simplicity.
Now for those that maybe don't know my background, I used to own an e learning company that I grew from zero to $16.4 million over six years. I actually sold that company last year to a private equity firm in America and off the back of that company I started helping other people to build these companies and grow these companies for themselves.
And I've been able to work with loads of different people from loads of different parts of the world in many, many different niches from knitting to, to ecom to trading, to sports, to addiction, real estate, fitness.
On and on and on, buying and selling watches, recruitment.
God, there's so many cycling.
It'S just so many manifestation mindset, how to write books, how to sell, just sales on, on and on and on. And I've worked with everyone from brand new people to people are making 10, 20, 30k a month, to people are making 250amonth, 500amonth, right up to 1, 2, 3, 4 million a month. In fact, my own consulting company made me $466,000 cash collected with just above $410,000 net profit. And that's the real kicker is the net profit last month in November.
And I think people are just starting to find out the power of these businesses. But nonetheless. Let's talk about my client friend who has the knitting company now. I first met this woman because we used to live in the same building here in Dubai and a mutual friend knew her. We had a coffee together in the building, the cafe in the building that we used to live in. And she was doing a little bit less back then and there was only a couple of things that I showed her to do that took her from about 6k a month up to about 18, 20k a month. And I'll share those things with you in, in this video. So it's only two simple things, so you can have these for free.
But basically what she does is very similar to what I do. So she makes primarily YouTube videos. So she makes YouTube videos and that's where she gets the, the attention from. Move this out of the way a bit. There we go, it's better. So she makes YouTube videos and similar to me, right now she's doing one a week, I do one a week. And she's done well in growing that, that channel. So people find out about her through that channel and it's quite a niche thing, knitting. So it's all about, God, the patterns, the materials, they're just everything to do with what they do. I'm not a knitter, all right, I, a young man, I'm not a 65 year old woman or however old they are. My mum loves knitting. My mum absolutely loves knitting, bless her.
Yeah, so YouTube is where the attention comes from. And then again, similar to me, she sends them into what's called a sales process. And this is basically where you convert someone from a viewer into a buyer, basically. And what she does is a tiny bit different to me in that respect because I don't have a community. She does have a community that's her primary thing. And this is quite important to talk about because when it comes to communities specifically, they are right for some niches and they are not right for other niches. Now for knitting, one of the main things that she really sells is a sense of community. It's you sit at home on your own, bored, doing knitting, get around loads of other people just like you, make friends, make connections, build relationships, share what you're doing, look at what they're doing, give each other feedback, find out where to buy the best stuff. Right. So a big part of her selling point is friendship, connection, relationships, community. For me, it's not for me, it's just people come to me, I show them how to build one of these businesses or grow one of these businesses, how to make more money, they make more money, they go away happy, basically. So community is less important. There is a bit of importance, but way less. Essentially for me it's more about just problem solving.
So YouTube videos to get attention and build value, that's another part of it as well. And we can talk more about that in a second. Send them to learn more about what they can buy, which for her is a $997 annual membership with a community, with a course, with some group coaching calls that you could. I mean, I wouldn't really call them coaching calls, but group calls.
And yes, she gets on average about 15 to 20 sales a month. So about 15,000 to about $20,000 a month.
And that's it basically. Now what were the two things that I helped her to do that took her from about 6 to about 20,000amonth? I wonder if you can guess them. Actually just, maybe just pause this video for a second. Just see if you can maybe guess what I'm about to say.
So number one, if you're ready. Are you ready? Number one was the price.
Price is one of the biggest levers that you can pull in your business. Now I can't remember what she was charging before we worked together, but it was on the lower side. I think it was 397 or something. Very, very, very, very, very low.
Especially for a year membership. But people always get the price wrong when, when they start out. But nonetheless, I said to her, just go up to 997. It's not too high, it's not too low, it's going to be spot on and you'll make a hell of a lot more money as well. Every person is pretty much a thousand dollars. Close. 10amonth. 10k a month, not that hard. So that was the first thing. And the second thing was her messaging in her sales process. Now this is.
I think, honestly, I think this is number one is copywriting, is messaging, is your how you. Not your offer, but how you say your offer, right? And it's all about. It's all about like an angle. Okay, now I'll give you an example of this. In my old company, the one that I scaled to 16.4 million and then sold last year to a private equity firm, it actually won me this award for making $10 million in cash. Bit of a humble brag for you there. I'm getting into this video. I'm really liking making this video today. I don't know why, might be the coffee must be strong.
But I love making these videos. But it's all about the messaging and the angle. And in my old company, the one thing that made us pretty much all that money was the angle. It was really just the angle because it was a trading education company. And when I was learning to trade, it was all about patterns, analysis, spending hours in front of the charts. And I learned from one coach about basically implementing rules using statistics. And at the time, no one was doing this pretty much the guy was a tiny coach. He wasn't particularly famous, but he was an incredible trader. And I learned all about the rules thing and then I made my own rules and it solved the patterns and it removed the analysis and it removed the emotion and the guessing and predicting and worrying and stressing and it saved a lot of time. So I coined the phrase mechanical rules. A man. When I started using that angle, everyone said to me, wow, what is that? How does it work? I've never heard of that before. Oh my God. It, it's remove this, it removes that. It helps with this, it helps with that. Bang. And the business just went crazy. Absolutely crazy. I made 24 grand. Year one, about a quarter of a million. Year two, 1.3 million. Year three, almost 3 million. Year four is about 2.9, I think bank. And that business made me a millionaire. Not that fast. It took a few years, but it made me a millionaire. It made me a multimillionaire. And it was just amazing. So it's all about the angle. And for my knitting client, again, to bring this back to her.
It was the same thing. She had a good offer, she had a good angle. But I switched it more to the whole relationships, other people's, get rid of loneliness, that kind of angle. And that really, really helped. That really, really helped. So if you are starting one of these businesses, just keep that in Mind, it's not really about. You can really teach anything. Like, I've worked with loads of bloody fitness people. I've worked with manifestation people. I've worked with econ people, like many of them. And the thing that makes the big guys the big guys is really the angle and the copywriting, basically.
And just how you convey, like, what you're doing and what you're helping people with in a unique way. Because humans, we've got this thing in our brain where our brain is constantly trying to save energy and save time, right? So when the brain sees something and it thinks that it knows what it is, it will.
Not concentrate. You'll lose focus, you'll switch off, you'll be, oh, I know this already. Not, not interested. Right? I've heard this already. It's not new. So you've got to make things come across as new, as unique, as simple, as fast. One of my copywriting coaches once used this phrase, nesb New, easy, safe and big. And if you can hit on one or more of those, that just gives you the best angle possible. Now you can sell things without an angle and you can make money. And she was making 6,000amonth, which is pretty bloody good for most people. Most people for how simple it is. She just stays at home.
Helps the people that she works with. I'm quite self conscious about this microphone today.
Sorry about that, guys. You know, 6k a month is not bad, but 20k a month is better. And for us, I don't really have any. I don't have any attachment to money now. Like whether I make 100 or 400, it's great, I'll take it. But it doesn't really have any significant impact on my life anymore. And this is the funny thing. When you don't need money, that's when you make the most money. One of my clients, a guy called Nero Knowledge, said this to me last week. He said, well, isn't it funny how the people who don't need money make the most and the people that do need money make the least?
And it was very profound. I was like, wow, that's so true. And he was saying, the people that don't need the YouTube views get them. The people that do need the YouTube views struggle to get them.
You can tell that he's a manifestation coach, can't you? And he's very good at what he does as well. I'd highly recommend watching his YouTube videos because they're bloody awesome. And it's been such a pleasure. It's such a pleasure. To work with great people like him, like my knitting client, like everyone that I get to work with. I really love what I do.
And that's the thing about these businesses. They're peaceful, they're profitable, they're very purposeful, they're easy, they're simple, they're fun. And you can really make a lot of money and a lot of net profit with these businesses. That's really the main thing, is the net profit. So there you have it. That's what she's doing. It's a pretty simple model and obviously the model changes depending on your niche, depending on your price, depending on do you want to run ads or not.
Do, how far do you want to scale? That does impact the traffic source, the sales process, the conversion mechanism, the value that you provide, all those kinds of things. But if there's one thing that you can take away from this.
Let it be this. If I can do it, I'm just a random guy. I'm not special. I don't feel like I'm particularly, like, talented or anything like that. I've just done this for a very long time, learned it, done it and figured it out. And it's the same for many of my clients as well. I work with a lot of new people. I work with a lot of people that are already going, but they're a bit smaller, 10, 30, 50k a month and they want to get up to the big boy numbers. But this can be done. This can absolutely be done by, frankly, anybody with a skill, a talent, specialist knowledge, anyone who's an expert. You can sell your knowledge and you can do it from home, from anywhere. It's not that difficult in my opinion. I know I've been doing this for almost 10 years now, but I don't think it's that difficult.
And hopefully I can convey this to you through these videos as well and just slowly help you to get there. Now, if you do have any thoughts or questions, just comment below and I'm more than happy to get those answered for you. I really hope that this was valuable. I hope that it was inspiring. One thing that people always say to me is, will you make it sound so simple?
But that's because to me it is simple. It's just make good YouTube videos, make a good sales process, make a valuable offer, and people are going to go through and they're going to buy and give you money.
What could be simpler?
But anyway, if you do need any help with this stuff, by the way, guys, I'll put a link in the description where you can book in a call and I'll chat with you and see if you, you know, if I can help you at all with this stuff. And if I can, I'll tell you how. And if I can't, well, at least you've got a valuable kind of free coaching call out of it, I guess. So if that does appeal to you, you can go and click the Work With Me link and check out that page if you want to, but otherwise, I'll see you back here soon.
