How I make good decisions as a millionaire

William Brown walks through his decision-making system: set clear long-term goals, verify you actually want them, filter choices through those goals, and use a physical journal to think it through. He uses his own wins—buying real estate in cash, selling an e-learning company, a ClickFunnels award—and shares specific prompts like "If I had $10 million right now" to show how it works.

Hey guys, it's Will. And in this video I want to talk to you about how I make good decisions or the best decisions kind of possible.
As someone who's made multiple millions of dollars over the last kind of six, seven years now, I'm not the most successful person in the world. I've made between my E Learning company that I just sold to a private equity firm, my real estate holding company and the consulting and the mastermind that I run right now, all together, I've done either just below or just above $20 million, right? And that's total sales volume, so not massive. I'm not a billionaire, you know, my net worth is not anywhere near 100 million yet. But I've built some cool stuff and it's gone pretty well. And I've learned a lot along the way. And one of the things that helps me make a lot of that money is good decision making, right? Because if you make the wrong decisions, you're gonna waste money, you're gonna waste time. And here's another thing as well. Just being in the wrong vehicle can mean that you make either no money or way less money. Timing can be a part of that as well. But again, in this video, I'm just gonna one take, no editing and just share everything on, on this subject right now. The first thing that I want to share and probably, probably the most important is you've got to know where you're going. You've got to have a clear end goal. And you've also got to go one layer deeper than that and understand why do you want that and is it a genuine beneficial outcome or not? Or are you just being stupid and wasting time? Right? I'll give you an example. So one thing that was very important to me was because I don't have a retirement, so I had to build my own retirement. So one of my first foundational goals was to buy a certain amount of real estate outright. Now I own multiple millions of dollars of real estate now, all bought with cash, no debt. I can't be affected by interest rates. You know, the bank doesn't own the property. I do myself.
That is my retirement. And that to me is wealth. Because I could whenever I choose, I can stop working now, right? And I can just do more or less whatever I want. I'm not, again, I'm not the richest person in the world. So I can't go and buy a five million dollar mansion.
You know, I can't buy a private jet. But those things are not important to me right now anyway. So one of my goals, one of the places that I was moving towards was to buy quite a large amount of real estate with cash. So that is the, was one of the goals that I was working towards and that's what my business was fueling the growth of that portfolio. Why did I want it again, one layer deeper? Not only what do you want, but why do you want it? Well, I wanted that because it would provide me the freedom.
So that I could stop working whenever I want. Number one, it's also my retirement. Number two, because obviously that the rent that, that generates is a lot of money. And through having that freedom there, I can work on things that I truly love, that I'm truly passionate about, that makes me happier, that therefore I can work harder and with more focus for a longer period of time and on and on and on, right? So I know that it's a genuine want that is truly beneficial.
And is not just stupid right now. Usually when people are starting out in business, their goals are a little bit more stupid. And that's okay because we've all been there. You know, like, you want a mansion, you actually don't. And you realize that you don't when you buy one and it costs you four grand a month just to maintain the thing, then you're like, ah, this was a bad idea. But you know, you want a mansion, you want a supercar, you want one or two or three watches, you want to live in a penthouse. You know, you, you don't, you, you kind of really don't. That kind of thing. You know, they're more goals for the sake of having goals, to look, look like you're successful, not actually be successful, but you know, building a great company and exiting it, like that's a bit more of a substantial goal. Buying, let's say $5 million of real estate outright to provide, you know, wealth for the very long term. That's a good goal, you know, that kind of thing. So the first thing I wanted to share was set clear goals so that you know where you're going and then go one layer deeper and just ask yourself like, do I really want it? Why do I really want it? And off the back of that, here's the thing. So when you were building businesses or you're moving through life, there's a lot of things that happen. There's a lot of distractions along the way, right? And it can be anything. You know, should I move country? Should I? Is now the right time to get a, get a long term girlfriend? Should I be investing all of my Money in crypto or should I be diversifying or why shouldn't I be diversifying? Do I have some kind of very unique edge that nobody else has and I should take advantage of that? Do I not have an edge and I'm just fooling myself and following the herd.
That kind of thing? Now, when you know exactly where you're going, when all this stuff starts to come in, you, you have a reference point, right? So let's say your number one goal in the world is to, is to, is to sell your company, right? And you know that by selling the company, you're going to get a big pot of cash and then you can use that to build wealth. So as you're making decisions, every decision has to be aligned with where you're going, right? And this is, this is point number two. By having a clear end destination, it makes all of your decisions easier because you're always looking through this lens of, well, I'm driving to that destination so I could veer off over here, but is that going to help me reach the goal? Is that, is this going to help me sell my company? If yes, right. Well, I should probably consider that if no, well, I'm not doing that because I'm not going there. I'm going there, you know, so by having this clear end destination and goal and being, being fueled by how you understand that it's truly what you want, that in itself is going to give you a lot more drive, by the way, to get there. Because it's a genuine, important goal. It's not like buy a Porsche.
Buy a watch, you know, those things. Look, I mean, I bought this a few years ago, this watch, it was my reward for hitting, I think it was like a million in cash. I said when I had a million in cash for the first time ever, I would treat myself to the watch. And I'm glad that I did that because this is my grail watch. It's the one and only. It's my favorite watch in the world. I don't want more. This is my favorite watch. That's why I bought it, right? So those little goals along the way, those little rewards along the way can, can be great things and I really encourage that. But for the big main, long term goals, right? Know what it is, understand how truly important it is or not. And then you've got a lens to look through. And as you're making decisions, you know, should you move country, should you have kids, should you get into a long term relationship, should you start another company, should you start another Offer. Should you begin doing consulting on the side? All these distractions, right? Should you start a mastermind? Blah, blah, blah. Well, is that decision going to get me to where I'm going? Is it going to allow me to achieve the most important thing? Right? So that's number two. Number three, get a journal to write in. Now, when you're building a business, when you are getting on with, with life, your brain can just get so cloudy.
There's always things to battle with. So.
Going out with friends, hiring, firing, investing your money, building your business, staying focused on your top one or two or three or four main goals like we've just talked about.
Other opportunities come along. Do you want to go, come on holiday? Should I go to this mastermind that my friend is going to? Blah, blah, blah. Now you've got to have fun in life. You've got to be a human, you know, eat well, drink water, go to the gym, sleep well. You've got to go and have dinner with your friends every once in a while. You've got to go and have a coffee on your own every once in a while. Writing in that journal, that journal is honestly responsible for a lot of my success because whenever my mind gets cloudy, I just go back to the journal and I'm like, right, what are the most important things that I'm working on? Should I be focusing on this? Should I not? What are the next one or two or three steps to get me to that number one or number two or number three goal that I've got right now? The journal helps to clean your mind because when you physically write things down on paper with a pen, it slows your brain down and it just allows you to almost like, process all of your thoughts, whereas without that, you just can't. It's. It's so hard to do. It's so hard to just think in know right now, like, right, what is my number one goal? What's my number two goal? Do I want to go to that mastermind in Miami in three months? Oh, I've got this person's wedding in six weeks, and that is in another country. So that's going to take me three days away from work. What am I doing around that? Oh, I said that I'd, you know, build an entire sales process for this client in January.
I'm just getting overwhelmed just, just saying it right now. You know, it just starts to, like, just.
Just overwhelm you and you just get lost, you know. But if you write it in your journal, you can do things like, well, what, what's priority and what's not priority? You know, do. Do I really want to do that? And you can ask yourself these questions. One of the last exercises that I did, my journal, I strongly encourage you to do this. I wrote down.
If I had $10 million in cash right now.
Number one, how would I invest it?
And number two, how would I spend my day.
And would I still be doing what I am doing right now?
And that just helps you to kind of digest and reorganize what you're doing, what you're working on, why you're working on it. And I love doing those little exercises because it's just.
It just cleans your head and just realigns you on. Am I doing the right thing? Am I focusing on the right thing? Am I wasting time over here when this is way more important? This is where I'm actually going, right? So for me right now, for this season of life that I'm in for this next three, six, nine, 12 months, I just want to focus on fun and fulfillment and helping people.
And using that to make content because I love making these videos. I love growing the YouTube channel. I'm getting on with my book that's going to be coming out in a few months. The book is so important to me. The book is one of my absolute number one top goals in life. So for my own purpose and fulfillment and legacy.
That book has been like a long time coming. So. And the book has a purpose as well because the book adds massive value for other people.
And will really, really help people. That is very rewarding and fulfilling for me as a human. You know, I just feel like I've got a purpose in life. I'm not just here making money and having coffee and just, just doing stuff. I'm building unique, helpful, valuable, truly real to myself stuff. And the book feeds into that. Then the book will allow me to reach more people, help more people. That will then grow my coaching and my mastermind, and that feeds back into my personal fun and fulfillment. So that's my lens. My lens that I'm looking at things through right now is, is it fun? Is it fulfilling, Is it rewarding? And is it gonna aid where I'm going long term and build my brand and build my reputation and keep it, keep it solid and keep it real.
So number one, have very clear goals that you're moving towards. Number two, how genuine are those goals?
Are they really going to benefit you and serve you? Number three, that then gives you a lens so that whatever happens in your life, you can run all of those choices and decisions through that lens and just ask yourself, are they going to get me to where I truly want to go in life? And then you're going to use a journal to just stay on top of the progress, stay on top of what you're doing, how you're doing it, what's working, what isn't working. And you can do these thought exercises along the way as well. Another exercise that I'll give to you all to do in your journal.
Is to ask yourself, what would I do with my day or my week or my month, or even my life, all of my time.
If money didn't exist? So if money did not exist.
What would you do tomorrow? What time would you wake up? Would you eat breakfast or not? And if so, where would you have a chef? Would you go to a cafe or a restaurant or maybe a beach club? If you're here in Dubai, would you own the things that you own right now if money didn't exist? Because I heard somebody talking about this recently. He was saying the value in expensive watches is that they're expensive.
So so few people have this watch and it's also quite expensive. So not everybody can even access it. That that's part of the value.
If this was £5 and almost everybody had one, I probably would not have wanted it. Right?
That can be really interesting to think about.
Now. There are some things in life that are, at least in my opinion, like truly very, very valuable. And those are things like living in a warm, sunny country, because that just makes you feel calm and happy and good.
For me personally, when it's raining and it's cold and it's grey and it's wet, I feel down, unmotivated, depressed, unhappy. Having a nice view like this view behind me, the ocean, the jet skis, the yachts, the mansions on the palm.
That makes you feel good and it makes you feel. For me, it makes me feel happy and successful and calm and driven and achieving. It pushes you further as well. So things like that are very valuable. A loving partner, a truly great, loving girlfriend or boyfriend or husband or wife think is very, very valuable.
And things like that. Now, there's just one last thing that I want to share with you in this video.
And this is probably the most valuable part of this video, and that is to think about your next 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 goals.
In what order does it make sense to achieve them? And how do they feed into each other as well? So I've always done this automatically. I don't think I actually learned this I think I've always just weirdly done it like this, but I always think if I achieve this, then that will help me achieve that, and if I achieve that, then those two things will actually help me achieve this.
So I'll give you an example.
I've always wanted to. I've always loved coaching people and sharing kind of what I've learned.
And when it came to providing business coaching and starting a business mastermind, I didn't think that I could do that until I'd fully proven myself and my kind of accolades. So I thought, well, if I want to coach business owners, I have to have an edge, I have to be unique, I have to have value to add that other people don't so that people come to me and not them. So what makes me special? Well, one of the things that made me, that makes me special is that I've won the ClickFunnels 10 million award. Okay? So I've genuinely made over 10 million in cash.
And won that award. Now, not many people have done that. Some have for sure, but not many. So I thought, well, if I win that, then that sets me apart right now. If I win that, what about if I also sell the company to a private equity firm for at least multi seven figures? Well, that combination, pretty much. No one has got that. I believe that I'm the only person in the world that's won the 10 million award and then exited to private equity for multi seven figures. I believe I might be wrong, but I think I'm the only person in the world that's done that. Now through achieving those, I can then go and I can write a book and I can start making YouTube content by doing that. That goal allows me to run my mastermind and provide business coaching in a way that nobody else is.
So can you see how this goal, then that helps you achieve this and then that combination helps you do this and then by doing that in tandem with those, you can do this and this, and very, very few other people can do that, that and that because they haven't done that or that or that yet.
So in a way, it's kind of building momentum and stacking achievements and accolades and proof. So I've heard Alex Hormozy say in the past, stack undeniable proof that cannot be argued with and that drives momentum. So let me ask you this. In your business, in your life.
Just think through these things that we've discussed. So let's say what is your top number one or your number one and number two goals right now? And why? Second to that, how deeply do you actually want those? You know, are they kind of desires or are they like die hard? I will not stop until that is done. And I'll either achieve it or I'll die because that's how I've always treated my, my goals. I was like, I will just go and go and go and go and go until I get it. Or, or, or it's, it's just not possible. So goals number one, how deeply and truly do you actually want them? Number two.
Below that, you can use your, you can use those as a lens to make all other decision making even easier. And then you can use those hacks and techniques like the, the Journal. The journal is so, so, so, so important. So you need to get one. If you don't have one.
That'S going to keep you focused and deeply aligned and it's going to keep your mind clear as well. And then you can do those kind of exercises, those thought exercises like the 10 million cash one that I gave you if money didn't exist, one that I gave you. And then you're also going to think in terms of steps to get to your goal or are there other things that you need to do first in order for you to get to the goal? Right.
So I don't know how long this video has been. I'm guessing probably 15. How long have I been so far? 24 minutes. Cool. So I'll wrap this up here guys. If you have any thoughts, any questions, please just ask them in the comments section below the, below the video.
And I'll come straight back to you on those. But yeah, I really hope that this helps. The purpose of this channel is just to share with you everything that I've learned from going from zero to now pretty much dead on. 20 million in total sales. And final thing to let you guys know, if you do need any help, there will be a link in the description that you can hit and you can find out more about how I can help you. You know, if you're just starting a business, I may be able to help with that. If you're struggling to scale your business, I can almost certainly help with that and on and on. So there's just a quick, I think it's about a 7, 10 minute video that explains who I can and can't help and how. Go and watch that. And if you want, you can book in a call with me. It will be me on the call with you. I don't have a sales team yet for the kind of business coaching side of things. And if you need the help, I would love to lend a hand. And at the very least, even if we don't end up working together, you've got a free coach coaching call with me out of it. So really hope this video has helped, guys, and I will hope to see you back here soon. Do not forget to subscribe. I would really appreciate if you would hit the like button, wherever that is, and I'll see you back here soon.
