What I try to hide about my Rolex Day Date

Will Brown bought a Rolex Day-Date after moving to Dubai and hitting one million pounds in cash, inspired by friends and mentors like Sam Ovens. He keeps it as a marker of that achievement rather than just a luxury item, and plans to pass it down.

Hey guys, it's Will. And in this video, I want to give you the not only the truth, but the full story behind my Rolex Day date watch. When I bought it, why I bought it, the reward that I gave myself, why I decided on it, when I decided on it, and also the truth. All those years on from actually buying it, do I still like it? Am I glad that I even bought it? And on and on. Now, before we even get into this video, I just want to give a quick shout out to Bruce Williams for inspiring this video. And with that said, let's get into it. So why did I even buy this thing? Now, for anybody that knows me, I'm not a particularly materialistic person. I own honestly, like five white T shirts, three black T shirts, a couple of cream shirts, a couple of identical green shirts, one suit, one dress shirt, like three pairs of shoes, one pair, one pair of trainers, two gym outfits, and that is pretty much it in the world. Some socks and underwear, but that's, that's pretty much it. So I don't own a car.
Pretty much all of my money, all of my wealth is either in liquid cash spread across countries and bank accounts, in high interest accounts, or it's in real estate, or a very, very tiny portion of it is in this watch. Now, I bought this watch about two and a half years ago and just to share the story with you, so I moved to Dubai, which is here behind me. I moved to Dubai about three years ago now, almost to the date actually, three years ago. And a couple of the first people that I ever met were a couple of the people that I was in a mastermind with. So I was in Sam Oven's mastermind. And the person that inspired me to move out here was one of my good friends, James Blackwell. And James had just moved to Dubai and he was saying how awesome it is. We were getting on Zoom and he was, you know, showing me and talking me through how he'd done it and why. And he really inspired me and just gave me the belief that I could even move out here. And then about a week or two after I'd moved, one of my mutual friends introduced me to a guy called Iman Gadzi. I ended up going out for dinner with James, with Iman, and then we would go for coffee and then we would go to the beach and then we would do this and that. And both James and Iman both loved their watches. Absolutely loved their watches. And I remember going for dinner with Iman and trying on his rose gold Patek Nautilus Beautiful, beautiful watch. I remember going for coffee with James and trying on, I think it was an Audemars that he had, might have been a Patek, but he's had a good, good few watches. And again, I've never been a very materialistic person, but I equally wanted to treat myself to something to kind of mark my success because again, I don't really celebrate success. I just kind of let it happen and keep moving and stay focused on bigger and bigger and bigger goals. But I wanted to just have something to mark a special occasion. And the occasion that I marked this was about two and a half years ago, so not long after I moved to Dubai. And also, just to add to the story, James's brother or his family or they either own a watch shop, I think they own a watch shop, or his brother works in a watch shop, I'm pretty sure they actually own it. So that made it even easier. So James knew that this was my dream watch. And the reason that this was my dream watch was because some of the people that I looked up to the most had this watch. So Sam Ovens had this, Patrick bed, David had this on and on. And those people that had it were the people that I looked up to the most. So I naturally, I wanted to be like them. Right, you become, and this is, I mean, this is a true example of you become the people that you look up to and that you hang around with and spend time with. So James knew that, that I wanted this watch. And he would always say, when are you going to get it? When are you going to buy it? You know that you want it, you've got the money. I more than had the money for this. So when I bought it was 29 and a half thousand pounds. And now it's worth about, depending on whether it's brand new or used, it's worth about 40,000 pounds. So about $50,000, something like that, $55,000. And I bought this when I had my first million pounds in cash, that's when I bought this. That was the celebration. And I'll never forget that the first time that I ever had a million pounds in cash, I then drew that down and went and bought this bloody watch. And fast forwarding all those years on, this is the only watch, the only luxury watch that I've ever bought in my entire life. I have no desire to own more watches. I just don't want them, I just don't need them. I wouldn't wear them because if I wore another watch then I wouldn't wear this. And this is my favorite watch in the world. I think this is the best watch ever, which is why I bought it. And it's why it's the only watch that I've ever bought, because I just love it. It goes with any outfit. Whether you're in a suit, whether you're in a white T shirt, whether you've got jeans or shorts on, whether you're going for dinner, whether you're going for coffee, it just looks awesome. I think it just looks classy. It's a little bit loud. But for me, because I wear such plain clothes, it just shows people that I'm not homeless basically, because when people see me in like a nine pound white t shirt and 20 pound shorts, okay, I might wear nice shoes, but this just, I think it just dresses up the outfit. And I'm not gonna lie, it does. It gives me a sense of achievement. When I look at this watch, it makes me realize, and even to this day, I don't regret buying this watch. It wasn't a waste of money. I still absolutely love it. All these years on, and my hope is to keep this watch forever. I hope that I still have this, you know, when I eventually die and I can pass it on to my kids if I have them. If I don't, I'll give it to a family member, whoever that is, maybe my brother's kids. If I don't have kids, who, who the hell knows? But I want to keep this watch in the family, hopefully forever. And then people can look back on it and say, yeah. Will bought that the first time that he ever had a million pounds in cash. He used it to celebrate and mark the progress, mark the occasion. And look, money isn't everything. Possessions aren't everything. It's about being fulfilled in life and doing what you love. And this is one thing that I'm very, very clear on. I'm very clear on my purpose and my passion in life, which is building things. I love making these videos. I love making products, I love helping clients, I love helping people build their businesses and grow their wealth and learn and it's, I just love it. That's my number one passion in the world, is creating and building things. And that's what I do now all the time, which is awesome. And I love the craftsmanship in that. These watches are, I mean, they're just a work of art and they just look absolutely beautiful. Not only that, you can store wealth in them as well, which is obviously why people have so many watches and store so many watches. That's personally not for me, not yet in terms of collecting watches. But I don't regret buying it and I do really love it. I look back on the occasion and it just reminds me you can achieve your goals. That's what it says to me when I look down at this watch. It just makes me realize, you know, you can plan for things and you can, you can achieve them given time. And it's just, I think it's just a really beautiful watch. I'm going to put some B roll on screen through this video.
Which again I've, I've borrowed. So I hope that that's okay. But yeah, I just think it's a awesome, beautiful watch and even for somebody that's not materialistic like me, it's just an amazing thing to have and it's something that I love, it's something that I, that I appreciate and it's something that I want to keep forever.
So there you have it. So for any of you who maybe don't have a watch yet, for me, I don't see it as something to show off with. I think that's just a bit pathetic really. I see watches as a marker of achievement and when you achieve something great, treat yourself to, to a, to a great watch. And whether you wear it all the time like me and I, I love to enjoy this. I wear it all the time, I travel in it.
I don't take it abroad with me, you know, when I go to like Thailand or something like that because it's just, you know, just not the right thing to do in my opinion. But yeah, I think watch is a great way to mark time in your life, mark a significant achievement in your life and it's just a great way to stamp that and keep that memory forever. That's what I believe watches are all about to celebrate and just stamp the progress. So am I happy that I bought it? So happy. I'll never forget the day that I picked it up and saw it for the first time and took it out of the box and.
Yeah, it's just. And again, I mean I picked it. Well, I didn't pick it up. It was waiting for me at my parents house. So it was nice to open it with my dad, which again I'll never forget because he's never seen because I don't come from a rich family. So for my dad to see me buy a watch that's, you know, is now worth $50,000 or just above, I think it made him probably more proud of me as well. And he was like, wow, you know, you're. You're doing well. So there is a lot of sentimental value in it as well. And that's the reason why I'll never sell it. I'll never, ever sell it. So that's the story of the watch that you. That you see me wear all the time in these videos. This big chunk of gold, this very shiny chunk of gold. And I just love it. Absolutely love it. So that's all for this video, guys. If any other of you buy this watch, send me a picture. I'd love to see it. Send it to me on Instagram, and let's keep building and growing.
