Aaron Doughty breaks down the fixer mindset in codependent relationships. When you try to fix someone, you label them broken and keep them dependent on you. Both people stay stuck: the fixer gets self-validation from helping, the other person stays attached because they need the help.

What very often people do is when they see other people and they're trying to fix them, they're implying that they're broken. And what they do is they are then thinking that they need to fix or overextend themselves. But by having that perspective, you keep that other person in their pattern. You keep that other person from actually tapping into their own power. So what happens is you keep that energy dynamic there because subconsciously you also get to feel either like the good one that's helping or you get to feel the one that's needed. And to feel needed, to form a codependency, you get to feel, you get to feel good about yourself. That person will never leave you because they need you because you're fixing them. So it's this energy where you can become aware that there's more going on underneath the surface.
