Be As If.

Aaron Doughty explains how to shift your identity by embodying your future self rather than just acting the part. He credits visualization, consistent habits, and environmental cues for his move from retail work to location-independent creator, drawing on research from Joe Dispenza and Neville Goddard.

Be as if. I would say that these 3 words are the key to you bridging the gap between where you are and where you wanna be. And when it comes to this, this is even more powerful than act as if, because acting as if isn't actually at the core identity level. Think about it in the terms of an actor. If an actor was to go to work, they would then go to work, act as the character that they are. Say it's like somebody like Heath Ledger going to act as the Joker in the movie Batman or something like that. And then what happens is at the end of the day, he goes home and he is Heath Ledger. Now the problem was with Heath Ledger, what happened is he was embodying the Joker, which was such a dark character, and it got to him so much psychologically, he started to feel different. He started to be in low vibe energy. And then that is what they say may have led to him happened and what happened to him, which is, um, where he passed away. And a lot of this has to do with who we are being in this moment has an effect on our reality. Unfortunately for Heath Ledger, he was acting as if at his job and he went home and he wasn't able to turn it off. He turned into being as if. Now being as if is from the core identity level. And when I look around my life, me living in the life, you know, the life pretty much of my dreams, right? I get to, I'm not trying to brag. I know sometimes I say that and people may think that it sounds like I'm flexing, but I went from a 9 to 5 job that I hated to living my dream life, traveling the world, doing what I love, living in a beautiful house. And any one of you can do this. And all I did is I applied these 3 simple words, be as if, and in this video, I'm gonna show you step by step how to do it, the core foundation of it, which is very easy. But I believe that if you stay to the end of this video when you watch this video, it will completely transform your life. Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron and I help people expand their consciousness. Now let me put this right here. Make sure you can see this good enough. This is a little board that I have for you guys today and it talks about being as if. I would say that, like I said, this is one of the most powerful concepts that I've ever learned and there's a couple core principles in here that I want to share. Now, first off, my own story. Was that I was working a 9-to-5 job that I didn't like. Many of you may have heard this story, but basically my thoughts, my emotions, and my actions were equal to a reality where I was selling women's shoes. I worked there for years. I worked at Nordstrom's for 4 or 5 years, and then I transferred to Barney's New York for the last 4, like 3 or 4 years. And then I decided I had enough. I was done working a 9-to-5 job I didn't care about. And in order for me to do that, I had this epiphany, this idea that if I was to make a video every single day for a year, my life would completely transform. But more than that, you know what I did is I connected to my future identity. What I did is I looked and I did use my imagination to imagine the ideal version of me. What is that version of Aaron doing? How is that version of Aaron acting? What does that version of Aaron believe about himself? And I realized that that version of me was making a video every single day. So then what I did is I simply decided I was going to be that version of me in this reality now, which was me working a 9-to-5 job. And then eventually that became my reality as long as I trusted the vision. And not only did I trust the vision, but I was trusting in the vision. This is the part where a lot of people fall short 'cause they let the limiting beliefs that come up, They let the little things come up that make them say, oh, maybe I'm not good enough for this, or maybe I care what people think too much, or maybe this isn't the right time. That's all excuses. That is all this I right here. We all have a self-image that does everything it can for us to remain consistent to the way that we see ourselves. So when the doubt comes up, when the caring what other people think, when the negativity comes up, it is this self-preservation mechanism that is trying to keep you safe. Because what happens is the way we identify ourself, what we agree we are capable of, we then subconsciously will do everything we can to remain consistent to that. So if you said, I'm a 9-to-5 job worker, and you're like, well, now I'm gonna be, you know, this person going for my passion, what may happen is the self-image gets in there and says, nope, that's not safe. That's not uncertainty. And Dr. Joe Dispenza himself says, a lot in his content, you know, our personality creates our personal reality. And our personality is a combination of how we think, feel, and act. If we think, feel, and act every day the same way, we get the same result every day. But when you act outside of this box of how you normally think, feel, and act, you get into the unknown, and the unknown is where the magic happens. 'Cause in the unknown, something new can come in. Something new cannot come in if you're doing the same things, feeling the same way every day, and acting the same way. So what I did is I decided I'm going to be this version of me. And the most important part of, I think, of being as if is making sure that you connect to a passion, to something inside of you that just, it wants to come out. You connecting to your heart. Sometimes people are like, oh, I'm gonna be as if I'm a millionaire. Well, being a millionaire is a side effect of you doing some type of passion. So when you focus first on the passion, that's where the power is, because that comes as a side effect. So the first thing I want you to understand is your personality is not permanent. Personality is not permanent. We get trapped in our own beliefs about who we are. We think we are the, you know, the person that got hurt in a relationship. I'm always, you know, sometimes we think we're the victim. And if we think we're the victim, we will always create experiences we are the victim. It's harsh to say, I know. Sometimes I say, oh, you know, we have to jump out of that mindset, but until we take responsibility, that will be our autopilot mind. That'll be what we continue to experience. But the thing that we need to remember is our personality is not permanent. We can give ourselves permission to change at any moment. At any moment, we can make a new choice about who we are. I remember when I was younger, I was in like my freshman year of high school and I was a C and D student consistently. What happened was I had a school test for an English class and there was this test and I scored higher on it than normal. I think I got like a 90-something, 92, and most of the class got really bad grade and the teacher said that. And when the teacher was passing back the thing, they said, oh, she said, oh, Aaron, you did really good or something like that. You were one of the top scorers. And then somebody else that was around me said, wow, you're smart or something like that. All of a sudden I started to see myself differently. I started to see myself as smart. I remember that very distinctly because from that point going forward, I started to be an A/B student. I went to honors classes in high school and I graduated with like a 3.8 GPA, weighted GPA, I guess, but it is still, and it one moment I realized and had this epiphany. I made a new choice about who I was based on one little reference experience and guess what? There's a new level of confidence, a new level of being smart. I tapped into a new area of my own smartness or something like that. And they'd done studies on that by the way as well. When kids are being, have certain teachers and the teachers assume they are smart or treat them like that, It actually brings the smartness out of them. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. So being as if. Be means that you are looking and identifying that version of you that you prefer to be, and you are saying, this is who I am now. And then you are being it every single day regardless of the outcome. Here's the difference between being and acting. When you are being as if, you are doing it because it's who you are. You are doing it because it's something that's connecting to your heart. When you are acting as if, you are doing it as a means to an end. You are doing something to escape the present moment, as if the present moment isn't good enough already. The key is very different. Being as if is present to the moment. Acting as if is trying to escape, trying to get somewhere else. So the thing that I really want, and I encourage you to look at, is a couple different things. One of it is your self-image. Work, your self-image, how do you see yourself? Realize that how you see yourself is just simply something happened in the past. My past is I had a painful past, so I saw myself as not worthy because of having an abusive ex-stepmom. I used to see myself as having too much energy because I was labeled as having ADHD and I took Adderall for it, the prescription drug given at the time. There was, you know, not considering myself smart growing up. Considering myself a 9-to-5 job goer, and that's what I'm capable of. But what I had to do is I had to redefine myself. I had to look at that self-image that's normally on autopilot— almost always is on autopilot— and realize that your life, your love life, how much money you attract into your life or you create in your life, your health, is all equal to your self-image about yourself. So the key is being aware of your self-image and and then deciding to change it by realizing, first off as well, every moment is a new moment. Every single moment is a completely new moment. What quantum physics shows us is that every second the cells in our body are dying and then being reborn. What this means is that even though we think we are the same as we were 3 months ago, it's a completely different body. And even though we think we are that which we were in the past, We are changing every second. It's just that because of our self-image, because of our identity, we continue to change to the same thing over and over and over again. So changing, we don't have to learn how to do that. That's a part of reality. Everything is changing. That's what they say. They say the only constant in the universe is change. You're already changing. The key is to change to more of how you prefer to be and realize your past does not equal your future. Most people think it does. This is what I accomplished in the past. The last time I did this— this is when you also get into shadow work, because sometimes you'll have like maybe when you're sitting at the dinner table, you're— someone told you to, to be seen and not heard. You know, though you're an adult now, you may feel like at the board meeting you can't speak up about your own thoughts, your own beliefs, or what you think because of that same type of thing at the dinner table when you were a kid. So the key is being aware that the past does not equal your future. Be aware of the shadow, be aware of these different aspects, and knowing that you're changing every moment, your personality is not permanent. You can simply give yourself permission to be a new way. It's giving yourself permission to change. When you give yourself permission to change, you will change easier than ever. When you believe change is very hard, it will appear to be very hard. I'm at a Tony Robbins Business Mastery thing right now, and he always talks about a breakthrough. What is a breakthrough? Breakthrough is a moment in time when you make a new choice about who you are. And when you make a new choice about who you are, you just never go back to the old. And sometimes it's an epiphany. It's this thing that you become aware of, and once you become aware of it, you become more powerful. But realize that this thing is in an identity. This identity is in a little box, and the way you break out of the box is you make a new choice about who you are, and then you simply be that. I'm realizing in my own business from that business mastery thing that I need to be and embody more of the leader mentality inside of myself. I have employees now. I'm growing a vision of doing live events, even virtual live events, whatever I have to do for now until I can get out there in the world. But guess what? It requires me to lead and to manage a team in a better way and to have this new energy about myself. And I'm realizing even the same thing I'm sharing with you right now, I just embody that. I'm just allowing myself to lead, to have a vision, to have boundaries. Boundaries are important too. You're being as if, but then friends pull you back into the old. Guess what? It's gonna be hard for you to be it because you have all these distractions. It's okay to have boundaries. When I first started going full-time on YouTube, making daily videos, I started making daily videos and then about a month I had a video start to go viral. And then 3, 4, about 5, 6 months later, I quit my 9-to-5 job. But there were times friends wanted to hang out. I had to say no. This is like, this is the vision I have. This is the momentum I have. And if it's okay to hang out with friends, but what I'm saying is you have to be very mindful and develop momentum in your own vision. I knew that if I did that too often, it would steer me away. And then after I started growing, then I was able to go hang out every now and then. But sometimes you have to really get into that state. Now here's the thing. What can you do to be as if? What are my tips? Before bed, one of the most powerful things you could do before bed is every single night as you're going to bed, feel the energy over your heart and see yourself as the self-image, as you're looking through your own eyes of you being as if you are the perfect version of you, the one living your passion every single day, being that kind of way. See yourself as that version of you and embody that energy and feel it as if that was you. There's a book called "Feeling Is the Secret" by Neville Goddard. It talks about this. I've been doing this for a long time now, probably years, and I think it really helped me bridge the reality of me working that 9-to-5 job to me doing what I do now. So every single night before bed, do that. That's when your brain is easy to be programmed, reprogrammed, because you're in more of a theta state that you're drifting into, and then the theta is where the subconscious mind is. When you're growing up, when you're a kid, you're in theta state. That's why you're absorbing the environment and the info from your parents and your belief systems so you can reprogram yourself by doing that as you go to bed at night and as you wake up in the morning, feel that same emotion. Books from a similar vibe. What I've found is that when you tune to certain frequency, when you turn to certain things, it gets you in that vibration. So for example, someone that I look up to is like someone like Tony Robbins. He's doing what I want to eventually be doing with speaking in front of people and living that kind of lifestyle. When I read his books, especially when I read something like Awaken the Giant Within, I'm able to tap into that young, his young energy of what he was thinking, feeling, and how he was being at that time of his life. And I feel like I can pick up on that vibe. So one thing you could do is you could find people, autobiographies, even books from people that you really admire, read their books to tap into that vibration. It will help you to then be in this energy and then also pay attention to your boundaries and your environment. Beware of when people are trying to like maybe take your energy or bring you back to the old version of you. Be very mindful of it. Change your environment. Go into an environment, an energy. Everything is energy. If I remember, I remember like if you wanna be an artist, you are an artist. Remember, you're being it. You are an artist. You are it 'cause you choose to be it. I wasn't like, if I make YouTube videos, then eventually I'll be a YouTuber. No, I am this YouTuber. That's the way I saw myself. The key for you is having the environment and, and going to a place where maybe somebody else has already accomplished that which you want. For example, let's say there's somebody that, like an art gallery studio owner, and you want to be— you want to have your own art gallery one day. Go to that place, talk to them, make friends with the owner, be in the energy of it, see what it's like to be in that vibe. Then you get taste of it, you can then feel it into it more. And one of the most important things is that will change your life, I promise you if you do this, is find out what your passion is, connect to your heart, set the intention to figure out what it is if you don't, and then find a way to do it every single day. Feel into it, it's connected to your heart. I started making videos every single day. Over the course of months, it compounds. This stuff compounds so powerfully. And as you're doing it daily, you then become it. It becomes a part of your self-image. The book Psycho-Cybernetics, which talks a lot about this, it was talking about how on average 21 days, now it's a loose term scientifically, it shows different evidence, but 21 days on average for someone to change the way they view themselves. Imagine you made a video every single day. Eventually after 21 days, you would think of yourself as a YouTuber. Say you created art every single day. Eventually you just have to agree, yeah, I guess I am an artist. I make art every single day. Now that's why also, if you didn't know, there's, uh, meditations that help with this. If you haven't checked out my meditations, I have some that are on specifically helping you to tap into your core vibration. There's one on raising your dominant vibration permanently. I'll go ahead and link it here. Listen to that 20 for 21 days. Watch how it transforms your life. Read the comments and see what's possible that will increase your belief in it. And then as you do that consistent, you'll find that your life changes more than ever before. So if you haven't already, if you could subscribe below, Like this video if you liked it. As always, I'll see you soon. Peace, much love, namaste.
