Detach, and get EXACTLY what you want INSTANTLY

Aaron Doughty argues that wanting something too badly creates resistance that blocks it. He traces this to unmet childhood needs and shows how detaching from outcomes and shifting your identity to embody what you want actually makes you magnetic to it.

Have you ever noticed that the more you want anything, the more you end up resisting that thing from coming into your life? The more you want, the more you lack. What if the emotion or the energy of wanting is a familiar energy from the past? Because maybe back in the day, the inner child needs weren't met. So it's more of an addictive energy to want, keeping you in survival mode, keeping you from attracting the love, from attracting the abundance, and from attracting new opportunities and synchronicities into your life. Now, this is an interesting concept that I believe will completely transform the way you see attachment The degree to which you can detach, understanding that you can have anything you want as long as you don't want it, which is a paradox. Like anything that you want, if it's love, by the time you are good either way of whether you attract love or not, meaning you're just not attached to the outcome, that's when it will come into your life. When it comes to abundance. If you really need and want a certain amount of abundance in your life, there'll be resistance there. But by the time you get to a place to where it is natural for your identity to be in abundance, that will come into your life. It's interesting to me that the best videos that on YouTube that do well for me are the ones I'm the least attached to. It's the ones where I never, it's the ones where even sometimes I don't even know if it's gonna do good or not. I'm like, yeah, I don't even know, but this is authentic, so I'm gonna put it out. But the ones I'm like, I hope it gets this number of views, I hope that it reaches lots of people, and I put the perfect hook in the beginning and I do all of these things, the more resistance, the less likely it is to do well. The more I'm just in flow, the more I'm not attached to outcome, the better it does. I can remember back to in 2000, probably '19, when my channel was still growing quickly, was like growing very quickly. And I remember that I knew energetically that when I was focusing on my channel and I was checking the stats like on Social Blade, which is like a website where I could look at how much per day my channel was growing, the more I would overanalyze and look into that and feel, okay, I'm safe, it's still growing, the more I knew energetically I was butchering the vibration of it. So it's almost like instead of just letting this thing naturally grow, I'd put my focus on it and then I would feel resistance. I put my focus on it, I'd feel resistance. And I, at that moment, knew that I was energetically butchering up the energy of it. And what I would do is the more I would do that, the more then Things would start maybe tapering off a bit. It's not growing the same. But ironically enough, the times it grew the most was the times I wasn't checking it. It's the times I was just in flow energetically with making content and wanting to add value. It's interesting, a lot of people that, like when we talk about YouTube, a lot of people that end up growing on YouTube or have YouTube channels that do well, a lot of times it's just a passion. It's an end of itself that ends up taking on a life of its own. There's something to learn from this because it's not, I'm gonna do this to get here to escape. I'm gonna do this because it's what I'm naturally passionate about. So the reason I share that is because so often, there's layers to this too that we're gonna go into that I think will completely change the way you look at desire in of itself. But the more detached you are, the more magnetic you are. Like if you were to go on a date with someone and you're like, "I hope they like me. How do I need to be so they like me?" That's a very resistant, needy energy that is very much not attractive. I know anytime I'm around someone that really wants my approval or validation, I can feel the expectation and the projection of energy that comes onto me. And honestly, the control. Think about that. When people want your validation or approval, they're trying to control you. They want something from you. It's not attractive. And if you do that to other people, that's something you can become aware of and realize there's this big burden that's being projected onto other people. When you think about it from energy as well, think of it as this visual. When you are thinking of someone else, you are sending them energy. How you feel when you think of them is the energy you are sending them. If you are feeling, "I hope they like me," resistance, they're feeling that resistance. Now, I'm not saying that you need to just like, "Okay, just think about them and think of love and send them love." I'm saying just bring your energy back into yourself. Be unattached to them giving you validation or approval. And the funny thing is you'll probably get the validation or approval. There's an energetic component that comes to this to where when you don't need it, you will get it. The people that get the most validation and approval don't need it. And if you say, well, there are people that really desperately want validation approval and they get it, That's a manipulative control tactic and they only appear to get it. I say when it's natural for you to be and you validate yourself, other people will validate you, but you'll be good either way. But let's take this a step further when we're talking about this. Now, the energy itself of wanting and desire, literally it's on the levels of consciousness. You got shame, fear, guilt, anger. Eventually you have Desire, then you have neutrality, then you have willingness, love, joy, peace, enlightenment. Desire is on the spectrum and desire is a lack energy. Now, the thing to understand about desire is that if the needs in childhood weren't met, it may feel very familiar to be in the level of consciousness of desire. Wanting. I know even as I, let's even look a step further at this too. Why do you want what you want? Is what you want rooted in some form of neglected childhood need? Could it be that most of what you want is social conditioning? It's, I know I say it sometimes, Disney movies. It's when we grow up, we see these things that we believe we need in order to feel worthy, whole, and complete. We buy into it. So what if wanting and desire has been a level of consciousness on the planet that has been manipulated by our social conditioning to keep us in a state of wanting? This is why Buddha said that attachment and desire is the root of all suffering. Well, guess what? There's a lot of suffering in the world. And back in the 1930s, 1940s, when men were at war, lots of marketers got together and said, hey, let's sell lots of products. To sell a whole bunch of products, we need to get these women that are chilling, get them to not feel good enough, get them to feel and believe that if they had this beautiful they had this and they had this and they had this, then they could finally feel worthy, whole, and complete. Get them to compare them to each other, to have this standard for what beauty is. And that's when there was this understanding that the more you would want, you would then take action, you would buy things. You watch Disney movies and it's like, oh, everything ends up happily ever after, especially once you get the, hero that sacrifices himself to get the love of the woman. So it's all like this battle for getting someone else's love and approval, validation. And then the woman will be happy once the guy finally comes around and saves them. And then they live happily ever after. Relationships are a little bit of challenge, but then you live happily ever after and there's never any challenges whatsoever after that. There's no work to be done. You see, part of the problem and the challenge with desire is that we believe that once we get to the thing, that's the happiness. Once you feel good enough, once you have good social media presence, once you have a lot of people that like and approve of you, once you have the perfect makeup, once you have this, once you can feel good in your friend group, when you compare yourself to other people, then you'll be good enough, then you'll be happy. You'll be approved of. But what if these are manipulated emotions and energies to keep you in a state of wanting? Because the more you want, the more you buy, the more manipulated you are. You see, the key here is being aware of what the end result is, and is that end result really gonna make you happy? Because the truth is when you can get to a place energetically where you're good either way, that's when that thing is much more likely to come into your life. There's an identity shift that happens and also an awareness that this thing that you believe is the end-all be-all to your happiness is an illusory thing that's keeping you in wanting. So like when I was first getting on YouTube, I remember getting to 100,000 YouTube subscribers. That was the first goal. Oh my God. A video went viral one night and I was at 95,000. And the next day I woke up at 100,000. I thought it was gonna take a week or two to get there, but I had a video going viral and then I was there. I woke up the next day at 100,000. I'm worthy. I'm whole and complete now. I'm gonna go to the gym and have this amazing workout and I work for myself now. And then I go to the gym and it just feels the same. Maybe $200,000. And then it went from $200,000 to $300,000, $300,000 to $500,000. $700,000 sounds like a lot, right? Well, what about a million? And then a million comes. It's like, does it feel any different? The interesting thing about this is that at every stage there was more wanting. There was an addiction to the wanting energy. Maybe this next milestone will make me worthy. Now the key is that you can't, it's not that you can't have goals, it's just don't delude yourself into believing that the relationship, the money, and the abundance is going to complete you. Why do you want what you want? You see, sometimes what I've noticed is for a long time, there was a desire that I had to grow on social media. And of course, there's still an intention to reach people, to have an impact, but back in the day, first 2 or 3 years of making content, There was a shadow side of myself. On one hand, I did wanna add value and I still like, you know, I want to add value to other people. On the other hand, there was a part of me that felt that I was only valuable if I was adding a certain amount of value to people through my content. And then also if it was growing at a certain level. So there was like a shadow side of myself that wanted that. Now I began to look at my own childhood energy and began to realize that some of this was rooted in a need for what Tony Robbins calls significance and his values. He's got these things called values where whatever we value is what we move towards. And the values are that of significance and love, certainty and uncertainty, contribution and growth. These are the 6 human needs. And what happens is sometimes if we didn't feel a certain level of connection when we were a kid or love, we may settle for significance to feel special, to feel unique. When really deep down what we might want is just to feel connection within ourself, connection with other people. So when people want validation or approval, they may be, and that's still one of the 6 human needs, significance, but if you value it more than connection and love, your life will be very different. And then sometimes what happens is certainty, talk about certainty for a minute, certainty and uncertainty, you need both. Like if you just had certainty and you watched the same movie every day, you did the same thing every day, some people find familiar energy in that because of childhood. It's like when things were uncertain, bad things would happen. But here's the thing, you cannot create anything new in the known, which means in certainty. And a lot of times a value of certainty can also be rooted in that of, for example, alcohol, cannabis, like these different things that when you do, you certainly know that your energy will shift. The thing I recently gave up was something called Hapéh, which is like tobacco that goes up the nose. I know it sounds intense. For years, it's just not psychedelic at all, but it's just, feel relaxed. It's been like a week and a half since I've been on it, I feel incredible. But for the first week, first like 4 days, it kind of sucked 'cause my body was so used to having it every day, just for 2, 3 times a day. It only lasts like a minute. I'm so, but I knew with certainty that if I did it, I would feel like I'd go inwards and it felt like I needed it. Certainty. But the thing is, is if you're creating your dream life, leaning into uncertainty is where all the magic happens. So the thing to become aware of is why do you want what you want? Now, when you realize that maybe there's a part of you that wants it because there's an inner child part of you that felt like its needs weren't met, and then you get to the core, you may find that then you allow these things to come into your life easier. It doesn't mean that all the goals change. Like I'm gonna give up like growing on social media and on YouTube to not have an impact anymore or something. It's just that the energy from which I go about it is different. It's like somebody that wants to attract love, if they're doing it to complete themselves because they don't like to sit with themselves or to be in their own energy, that's like an escapism energy. And it's an energy that's very repellent. But if you're feeling the love inside of yourself, if you're enjoying the connection to your own life, if you're enjoying the connection to your friends and your family, you're gonna have a lot of love in your life. And then it's like you're good either way whether you attract love or not because you're enjoying your life. It's more about the process. Every person you date, is it like, is this the other half to my soul? Is this person gonna complete me? Projecting all this burden and unmet childhood needs onto them. Instead, it's like, I wonder if I'm gonna connect with this person. Even if it doesn't work out with this person, this person is here in my life for a reason for me to either learn something or to open up or whatever. But don't delude yourself into thinking that once you attract the person, there's not more work to be done. That once you have the business and you start making money, that there's not other challenges that you're gonna have. What that allows you to do is to decrease the level of importance you give to it. And the false projection and importance as to what this thing is and what it means for you. Because ultimately there's a belief there that says this thing will complete me, this thing will solve my problems. This thing will help you grow is the truth. And even if it's a relationship, there'll be levels of opening up your own heart you're able to open up to. Of moving through and becoming more emotionally available, of compromising with the partner, of getting used to being around someone a lot more often. So understand that when you put the full spectrum in there, it makes it a little bit easier to realize you can let it be natural for you to experience it because it's not about the end result, it's about the process. Say it's about who you become in the process. If you commit to the process and it's an end of itself, you'll have a lot more power. You have a lot more ability to be present with what's happening instead of constantly trying to figure it all out. I think a lot of times wanting this, think about it, wanting and desire is a need for certainty. It's like once I get this thing, then I'll be happy. But sometimes what's been familiarized is unmet childhood needs. So it's like almost if somebody could come up and just give you all the validation approval you want, you wanna know what's interesting? You might not even be attracted to them. You may only be attracted to people that don't give you what you want because there's an energy of wanting that has been familiarized. That the inner child, the part of you inside says, "I feel safe." Why do I always attract people that are narcissistic or this or that? Maybe there's a certain level of familiarized energy there. And the whole name of the game is getting and becoming aware of what's familiar, becoming aware of what your nervous system is tuned to, and then having the courage to step into the unknown, having the courage to open your heart. Having the courage to move through the fear, to take action anyways. But when you start questioning, why do I want what I want? You start to realize a lot about yourself and about your own inner child needs. So if your inner child is wanting significance, you can begin to parent that inner child inside of you. Give that version part of you significance to feel worthy, whole, and complete. And the funny thing is, is then as you do that to your inner child, you will feel worthy, whole, and complete in real life. And then you'll attract more abundance, more whatever it is, love, but you won't need it because the inner child part of you feels soothed.
