A woman in a 16-year marriage feels like a beggar and lacks respect. Aaron Doughty asks what would make her feel lighter. She says walking away and staying his best friend would, but she fears causing the abandonment pain she once experienced.
Speaking of cheating or relationships and stuff, I'm in the middle of contemplating walking out of a 16-year-old marriage, and I told him I feel like a beggar in this relationship.
Yeah.
And I don't feel the respect. So how do you decide? Staying and transforming it slowly, or wanting to walk away? And how do you choose?
What if I ask you that same question?
I don't want to be wrong about it.
There's no perfect answer here. There's only the authentic answer. I'm asking you the same question. How do I know whether I should stay in the relationship and try to make it work or I should walk away from it?
Do what makes you feel lighter.
Okay, what makes you feel lighter?
Walking away and being his best friend.
Yeah, thank you for sharing. Yeah, yeah, sharing your heart.
I just don't want someone to feel the hurt that I felt being abandoned.
It's a beautiful desire that you have. And honestly, I felt the same way where in relationships If I were to break up with someone, I would feel like the pain they would feel through the breakup was like something that was my responsibility, and I would feel that pain myself. But also, I had to realize that I was abandoning myself and wasting their time. The next live event that I have coming up is in Los Angeles, California, January 31st to February 1st.
