how I attracted success

Aaron Doughty contrasts the competitive mindset of scarcity with the creative mindset of abundance, arguing that shifting between them changed his sales at Nordstrom. He says consistent over-delivery builds trust that converts to paid offerings, and that daily habits reinforcing an abundant identity are what attract success.

In this video, I wanna share with you the founding principles that have allowed me to literally attract millions of dollars into my life. These are things that when I switched my perspective on and I took the energy on in my life, completely changed everything. I'm gonna show you some founding principles you can live by, how this will completely transform your energy from the inside out and allow you to be in more abundance than you can even imagine. One of the things that really allowed me to shift more into the wealth frequency, to start creating abundance in my life, and one of the most powerful concepts I probably ever learned was moving from what is called a competitive plane into a creative plane. This comes from a book that's called "The Science of Getting Rich." It was a book that I read when I used to sell women's shoes at Nordstrom's. And I remember reading it outside the e-bar where people drink coffee, and I was on a little 15-minute lunch break, and I'm reading this book. And it's all about the science of getting rich. And one of the concepts and the main premises of this short little book is that you must move from what is called the creative plane to the competitive plane. The creative plane— I'm sorry, the competitive plane to the creative plane. The competitive plane is a plane of existence that's based on scarcity. It's based on there's a scarce amount of resources to go around. There's a scarce amount of customers. There's a scarce amount of everything and therefore you must compete for it. If someone else is successful, that takes away from your opportunity at success. And it's very much in survival mode as well. And I could even relate that to selling women's shoes in a commission-based environment with 8 other sales employees at my job. We're all standing around waiting for customers. One customer comes up and somebody picks up that customer, they've taken away from me. I'm in this competitive state where it's like, that could have been my sale. Now, when I was reading this book, what I realized is that every time someone else would have a good sale, it would lower my state or I would feel, ah, and people would get really jealous too of like other people had good sales. When I read this book, it talks about moving from competitive into that of creative. The creative mindset is an energy of expansion. There is enough to go around. There is an abundance of everything. And what I started to do is be in that creative state where it's like, I don't know that someone else's sale is going to take away from mine. So what I started to do is I started to use this concept where if somebody had a good sale, that was motivation in the sense that it means customers are buying today. It means that it would be more positive mentality I was giving to that. And what that resulted in is me feeling more expansive, not lowering my state if someone else had a good sale, and also trusting that I was going to be in the right place at the right time, picking up the customers I was meant to pick up. And what ended up happening is it completely revolutionized how much I was selling because I moved from competition into creative. Now, the other part of abundance that a lot of people don't realize that I think is a game changer when you begin to embody it is from a book that is called Prosperity Consciousness. It is a book that talks about something that is called surplus energy. Now, think about this. We were just talking about the competitive plane versus the creative plane. The competitive plane is survival mode. It's someone else is successful, takes away from your success. It's just you are, you don't really have the energy to focus on adding value to others or giving more than you're getting, than you're putting out more because you need to retain that because there's scarce resources and you don't wanna give too much to one person because then it's taken away from what you can give to someone else. Well, surplus energy is the difference in energy between what you need to survive So survival mode. The surplus energy is the extra energy that you can give that adds value out into the world. This can also be likened to that from the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It's called going the extra mile. When I was selling women's shoes and I started to go the extra mile, which means there's the bare minimum. Somebody asks for a shoe, I go in the back, I grab the shoe, I bring it back. And just have the normal conversation with them and it's on autopilot. That's a certain result. Then going the extra mile means connecting with the customer more. It meant grabbing 2 extra shoes than what they asked for and bringing it out that I thought they'd be interested in. Having the courage to do that and to show that even though they only asked for 1. Having the courage to add value, to focus on adding value. That surplus of energy, that's going the extra mile. And I'm telling you, when you go the extra mile, you will get more opportunities that come into your life than you can even imagine. When I started going the extra mile when I sold women's shoes, I would get people that owned businesses that would offer me jobs. I would have more customers than I could even manage. I would be more successful than ever because I was going the extra mile. Now, if you relate this as well, I take this philosophy and I've put it into everything that I do. And I honestly believe it's one of the main cornerstones of my success is I focus heavily on adding value. I put out 2,000 YouTube videos that I believe add value, that adds value. I overdeliver and give away meditations and processes a lot of people would charge for. I give away literally a $1,000 course for free called High Vibe 101 that has in it breathwork ceremony that's an hour and a half long. Has literally guided meditation, step-by-step processes to transform your life from the inside out. It is completely free because I believe it is important for people to have this kind of information. And by the way, if you do want that, I'll go ahead and link it below. It's in my free community called High Vibe Tribe. Now, the reason I do all of this is because it adds value. It focuses on that. And you might say, okay, well, you're adding value, but how do you actually make money? Well, what happens is after adding value and after giving and having a genuine intention of helping people, it creates a relationship. It creates a certain level of trust. Once that level of trust is created, what then happens is I'm like, okay, if you want to go deeper, you can join one of my 21-day challenges. You can come to a live event that I'm running. You can come be part of this workshop that I'm doing. And what happens is people didn't want to go deeper, but what's happened is on the front end, I've given a lot of value. And once I started focusing on giving value when it came to making YouTube videos, that was the change for me. That was the game changer. I started focusing on adding value instead of like, how does this look and how am I coming across, which is very survival mode. How can I give value? How can I help other people? What am I passionate about talking about that can also help people? And what would happen is then that surplus of energy, so remember we have the creative mind, which is just thinking, feeling, acting equal to survival mode. Then we have surplus of energy, which is going above and beyond, also going the extra mile. And what happens is as you go that extra mile, you're over-delivering and think about it, you're filling more than your present space. That's another quote that I think comes from "Science of Getting Rich," but it's you wanna more than fill your present space. If you more than fill the present space of where you are and you're giving more value, then what'll happen is you'll have more opportunities because you're outgrowing where you are. And what a lot of people do is they stay stuck because they're thinking, feeling, acting equal to an autopilot mind doing the bare minimum. Well, no one's gonna see someone doing the bare minimum and go, "I want that person to work for me." I wanna give this person the opportunity. The universe is going to reward the energy you're putting out based on the energy you're embodying. Now, another aspect that I've had to learn to go full-time with my purpose and to create abundance in my life is learning that fear, the emotion of fear is there to keep you in the familiar. It's there to keep you in the competitive plane. And what'll happen is for years, I knew I wanted to be on YouTube, but I felt stuck. Because I was afraid. I was afraid of what people were gonna think of me. I was afraid that I wasn't credible enough. I was afraid of friends and family being judged for talking about esoteric concepts. I was afraid of failure. I was procrastinating. Everything had to be perfect. I was creating all this resistance. But here's the thing, that was there to keep me the same, to keep me in the competitive plane. Once I understood that I had to lean into and get exposed to the thing I was resisting, that was where I expanded my comfort zone. So one of the things that's very important to understand on this spiritual journey that you're on, because honestly, it's a spiritual journey to become rich and successful. And even as I say rich and successful right now, you might say rich, that sounds like a negative thing. I understand Aaron, if he were to meditate with crystals, but he's talking about being rich. Well, there's a lot of guilt that spiritual people feel around abundance and money. There's a lot of, and think about this, this is what's interesting to me. The blocks that a lot of spiritual people have around being rich and successful is that they think that having money is just going to overemphasize an inflated ego. When you can become successful and that can add value to your community, that can add value to the systems you create, to even add more value. Like for me to have the impact that I wanna have, having abundance as a reflection also gives me the opportunity to have resources to build a team, to run bigger live events, to create more value. But very often in the spiritual community, we see these as separate things. It's funny too, you could say to someone like, do you think there's a problem with Coca-Cola selling Coke? Selling like a $2 Coke. And you'd be like, no, that makes sense. It's business, right? You get Coke and you give it. And then it's like interesting because then what you realize is when it comes to people's spiritual gifts or people that are into spirituality, they're like, no, no, no, no, no, you cannot charge to coach someone else. You cannot charge to give away spiritual information. It should all be free. But the thing is, is here's this thing over here that may be in alignment for somebody as a spiritual coach to be sharing that can also add value and literally help and transform other people. I see this because I see coaches that have incredible ability as an empath or someone to connect with other people and they're the person in their life that all their friends go to and they're the person that like helps out everyone in their life, but I can't charge for that because if I were to charge for that, that's bad. But they think that Coca-Cola selling $2 thing of corn syrup that literally gives people cancer, that's okay. But doing something that adds value is not. You see where the mixed, like how can you be abundant when that's literally the perspective a lot of people have? So it's important to understand that when it comes to abundance, it's about understanding that all money is, is energy. It's just energy. So when I'm talking about creative energy versus competitive energy, when I'm talking about surplus energy, it's energy. And the key to getting in abundance is getting into alignment with your purpose, alignment to what you're excited about, alignment to adding value to other people. That should be the focus to create abundance. And then what happens is as you're doing that, as I've done that, I've had people pay attention to what I do and then adding lots of value for free, but then people want to go deeper. That's where the abundance is made. If and by charging for live events and these things, it allows me to have more resources to do more. It's funny, I remember one time I ran a live event where I was running a live event and honestly, the live event that I was running, it was $200 for a 3-day experience that included 8 hours of live event, which included breathwork, different meditation practices, I was literally on stage for like 8 hours a day. I brought in some guest speakers and it was a steal for most people that joined. But there were 1 or 2 comments I saw that's like, why don't you do it for donation? Or why don't you do it for free? And I'm thinking, you know, to run a live event like that on the business side of things, it can sometimes cost a lot of money, like literally $60,000 or $80,000, literally in expenses to rent out a big room that can house 500 people, to have the lights, the cameras, everything there so that I can capture the experience for the virtual people. Like it's such a thing, but that's the perspective some people have because maybe there's not the understanding that the way it works is in order to continue growing to do things and impact more people, there has to be that energy exchange or it's literally not sustainable. Literally it's like I can't just, you know, like it's, I think it's logically even understandable that someone can't just, that the money has to come from somewhere, right? The reason I share that is sometimes I think in the spiritual community, there's this almost entitlement energy, like I am better than needing to make money. Money is just energy, but it's I am better than that, I am above that because I am spiritual. But that becomes this grandiose energy that also blocks money from coming in your life. So that may trigger some people that hear that, but that trigger is good. 'Cause what that means is that trigger is what's blocking abundance from coming into your life. Like that's the reason abundance doesn't come in because you judge abundance, you view it as bad, you view yourself as more of a bad person if you had it. One thing I've had to learn is that money is energy, that's it. And when you think of money as energy, you don't want to one-up it or one-down it. What I mean is one-down it is I'm not worthy of money or abundance, it's this thing that's dirty. I don't want it. That'll keep money from coming in your life. The same time, one up is money is the best thing ever. I'm gonna chase money. It's gonna be the end of my happiness. I need it. It means I'm powerful. It means I'm better than everybody. That also creates imbalance of energy. What you want is you want it to be natural for your identity to be abundant because you've become the person that adds value. You've become the person that's in alignment. You become the person that creates systems to help people transform. You become the person that goes the extra mile. When you think of the book Atomic Habits, one of the most well-known personal development books that exists of the last probably 5 or 10 years, if you go on Amazon, you'll see it there, Atomic Habits, it's all about little habits you do that change your identity. The idea is that if you are trying to lose weight, what you do is if you're losing weight, you don't just focus on the goal of losing weight, which a lot of times also has the goal of like, it emphasizes that I'm out of shape and that's just who I am. I'm an out of shape person trying to get in shape. And then what happens is there's an old identity that says I'm an out of shape person. Well, instead of just going to the gym and trying to lose the weight and think about it, if you lose weight, what are you gonna do to get back to the old identity? You lost it, right? If you lose your keys, what do you do? You try to find it, right? If you lose weight, what are you gonna try to do? You're gonna try to find it once you've done the thing that you had to do of losing the weight. So instead of that, the key is having daily habits that wire in a new version of you. So it's making healthier choices because you're a healthier person now. So one way that I applied this, 'cause that creates an identity shift, right? When I was helping customers with women's shoes, I would do this little stupid thing where I would put, I'd already gotten the sale, they already want the shoes, I put it in the bag, I would put tissue over the box and I would do it in a way that just shows I was putting a little bit more attention into the process. I would walk the bag around the counter to them and I was doing that not just because to them it shows I'm putting in more energy, I was doing it for myself because I was going a little bit above and beyond. Sometimes when I'm working out, I'll get to a point of failure and then I'll do a couple more partials or do just one more just to prove to myself that that's the kind of person that I am. I go above and beyond. So in the same way, you can apply what I'm sharing with losing weight and just making a little identity shift to abundance. How can you go the extra mile today? How can you more than fill your present space? How can you add more value? Because if you add more value, The person that adds the most value is the person that wins. It's the person that has the trust. It's the person that has repeat clients. It makes a huge difference. So when we're talking about vibration, when we're talking about energy and we're talking about wealth, wealth is simply a reflection of alignment and it's a reflection of you being able to lean into uncomfortable energy. I've had to step out of my old identity. I've had to start making YouTube videos, which was fearful in the beginning, which was not familiar. And you have to have the courage to do so. You have to have the courage to step into a new you. As you become more successful and as you make more money, you will also have to learn how to have more boundaries. I get people that reach out to me all the time that want me to come on this, want me to do this, want me to collaborate with them. Literally like probably like 10, 15 a day. The thing that I had to learn as I started to become successful is I had to have more boundaries. I remember even the first 2 or 3 months being on YouTube and starting to get momentum, I'd have friends or people that were like, hey, you wanna come to this party? Wanna come over here and chill and do this? And I'm like, I am prioritizing. I'm still working the 9 to 5 job, but I'm also making videos 6, 7 times a week, daily videos. That's my priority right now. I had to say no to that. And then what happens is as I become successful, I've had to say no to certain things and have the courage to do so because that allows me the space to do what my priority is, which is creating content that adds value, getting in that zone of genius. So, one of the things to understand in the fundamental principles of this entire thing we're talking about is one, move from the competitive plane to the creative plane. Understand that other people's success is a sign that you can also be successful. If someone has a customer, doesn't mean it takes away from you. Even on YouTube, I recognize this. If somebody is doing well on YouTube in my same niche, I'm happy for them because that means there are more people getting into spiritual awakening content. I'm not like, there's somebody, it's an energy that's in the competitive plane. So move competition into creative, focus on surplus energy. How can you add value? How can you be the energy of your passion? How can you give more? And then also don't be afraid to, once you've created that trust, to understand how you can then take them deeper. There's certain people that will wanna go deeper. And what you can do is you create systems or ways to adding even more value and you let your excitement help you find out what that is. But what you wanna understand is you wanna create an identity shift. You are a person that it is natural for you to be in abundance. It is natural for you to be giving value, it is natural for you to be in alignment. And as you are in that energy, you have more magnetic energy, you'll find more synchronicities and more opportunities come into your life. So like I was saying, if you want a step-by-step process that will help you to elevate your vibration, I have a $1,000 course for free called High Vibe 101 in the High Vibe Tribe, which is free.
