Aaron Doughty leads a grounding meditation that moves attention through your body from hands to toes, then to the pauses between his words. He meditates 20 minutes twice daily and says presence dissolves negative emotions and creates a sense of abundance.

This video is going to be about the idea of being present to the moment, and I'm going to share with you guys something that I've been doing for the past about year now, and it's been something that's had a big impact on how I feel and how I recenter myself into the present moment. So first off, let's understand why do we want to be present to the moment and why do we want to be here? Here now? Well, one of those reasons is because when we are actually present and we're not judging anything about the present moment, what we then begin to do is allow ourselves to just be. And funny enough, if there is any negative emotion, because we are just allowing ourselves to be, we are allowing the moment to be, a lot of times that negative emotion will just go away. And anytime we are present to the moment, there's a different quality to that presence, a different quality to how we feel, because underneath whatever we're thinking, whatever action we're doing, there's like a stillness underneath that, and it's a very good feeling. And what I encourage you to do is to tap into it more and more, and that when you begin to do that, it can be something that becomes at a certain level kind of addictive. And it's one of the reasons that I meditate every morning for 20 minutes right when I get up and 20 minutes right before I go to bed at night, because I'm really able to focus on it and tap into that. And because of that, Throughout my day, I've noticed I've been able to feel that presence underneath what I do. What do we do to become more present in the moment, and how can we really embody it? Well, first off, let's understand that thinking isn't necessarily the answer. When we think, we are normally putting labels onto the current moment. We're either projecting ourselves to the future of what could happen, or we're projecting ourselves to the past of what did happen or what shouldn't have happened. But the idea is that if we focus on purely on what we're doing right right now in this moment and we just let the moment be, we're able to actually tap into that presence. Now, a lot of times what that has to do with is just simply getting out of our mind and into our body. Now, this is the tool and the exercise that I'm going to share with you today, and the first thing I'd like you to do is to just simply take in a deep breath with me so that we can kind of ground ourselves. And as you take in this deep breath, pay attention to how it feels in your diaphragm, how it feels coming into your even nose and how it feels as you absorb that breath. Feel what it feels like, and let's do that right now. So the idea is to just— So now that we've taken the breath, you may have, as you took that breath, been able to feel the sensation inside your body. And as you felt that sensation, even that simple, very quick act, what you did was you took the attention out of your head and you felt inside of your body. Now let's do it at a greater level. When we think of being in our head, we think of our energy kind of really just being and thinking and, and constantly identified with it. So most of our consciousness tends to be in our head. But now let's bring the awareness down into our body. Which means that all we simply have to do is feel the sensations inside of our body. So even if like you put your hands out like this and you're not even going like this and touching them, a lot of times you can still feel the energy coming in within you, like the sensation inside your hand. And as you do that, feel it inside of your arms and then feel it inside of your chest, inside of your abdomen. Feel it inside of your left leg. Now feel the sensation in your right leg. Feel the sensation in your feet, in your left foot, and even your toes. You don't necessarily have to wiggle them or move them to feel it, but you can if you want to. But the idea is to just feel it. Feel the sensation in your right foot, in your right toes. Now, as we tap into more of this ability to feel inside of our body, what we do is we take the energy out of our head, out of the thinking mind, and we then move it into our body, and we're able to actually be present to the moment. Now, even right now, as you're watching this video, become peripherally aware of what's going on around you. The fact that you're watching this video right now, and that there's stillness in between the words. Like when I speak, you hear my voice, and you hear what I'm saying, but at the little pauses that I make, you can hear that stillness in between. As you listen with your ears, it puts you out of your head and into a very alert mode. So even as you listen to me speak right now and you wonder what I might say next, what you are doing is you are using your ears as an anchor to put you into an alert mode. When you are alert, when you are present inside your body, you are then really beginning to tap into the moment now, and it begins to feel very good right now as I'm doing this video. I feel really good, and one of those reasons is because, one, I enjoy doing these videos, but the other reason is because the exercise I just did with you helped me really get out of my head and into my body. The idea then is that right now we can go throughout our day, we can understand that there's a presence underneath what we do, we can allow ourselves to allow the moment to be by not labeling it and identifying ourselves with it. But if we need to use a certain tool to get us into our body, all we have to do is focus our sensations inside. We have to just feel inside your hands, feel your feet, and as you begin to do that, you'll begin to feel present. You'll begin to feel in the moment, and I promise you there'll be a different type of energy about what you do. You'll notice opportunities. You'll feel abundance and you'll feel like you're allowing the moment to be. So I hope this video helped you at some level today. Feel free to like and subscribe below if you like this video. I will see you on the next video. You guys have a great day. Bye.
