How to Change Negative Beliefs holding you back (changing your self-image)

Aaron Doughty explains how limiting beliefs form through subconscious programming and early experiences. Instead of fighting negative habits, visualize your desired identity and act as if you already embody it. He went from making one or two videos weekly to committing to one daily by repeatedly reinforcing his new self-image.

Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron and I help people expand their consciousness. Now in this video, I'm going to show you the most powerful perspective that I've found for becoming who we prefer to be and really learning how we can break through the limiting beliefs that we might have by understanding the power of our self-image and the power of how we define ourselves to be. Now a lot of times when it comes to this idea of subconscious belief and limiting beliefs, it comes from this understanding that our subconscious mind rules 95% of our life, and then it becomes something that we think has a lot of power over us. But what I want to suggest to you is that you have the ability and the power to define yourself in a new way, to let go of the little identity of who we think we are, that we can let go of that by becoming consciously aware that most of our life experience has been on autopilot. It's been based upon decisions we made when we were young that began to limit and to define what our potentials and possibilities for our life were. Now understand also that who we define ourselves to be has a level of self-hypnosis that is constantly being ran through it that is saying things like, I can do this, I can't do that, I can't act in this way, I can't, uh, I can't become this type of person because people will judge me. It comes from reference experiences of how we define ourselves to be, how we relate to the external world, and what we think our potential or possibilities are. Most of this has been on autopilot. Most of this has been based upon a couple reference experiences or many reference experiences that shaped that, but now that we're becoming aware of the potential that we have, now that we're becoming aware of what those unconscious subconscious beliefs are, we can then begin to actually let let them go. We can realize that they served us for a certain period of time. Maybe they protected us from a certain level of pain because if we were told that we shouldn't be like speaking out when we were younger, or we're told that we're not capable of doing something else, or maybe our parents didn't support whatever we wanted to do growing up, so we never took action with it. We began to associate pain with doing what we actually enjoy doing. We begin to associate pain with speaking out because people might lash out at us for doing so. As we begin to become aware of those decisions that we made, that we did at some point make a decision that this is who I am. I am a shy person. And in yesterday's video, I talk about the idea of unlocking who we think we are because we don't need to be tagged and attached to certain labels that we think define us. This video is going to kind of expand that idea and really make us understand that our self-image of the way we define ourselves is steering us in a certain direction based upon the hypnosis and the automatic way of thinking of how and who we think we are. Now, based upon that identity, there's different directions we can go in. There's different probable futures, and the probable futures we will experience are limited by that self-image. So if we have a self-image that says that I'm inferior to other people, or I can't take action doing this because I'll get judged by somebody else, then it puts us into a certain direction. But imagine we start to define ourselves in a new way. We change the way that we view ourselves, we would then start to go and create for ourselves a probability of a future that we actually like because we are actually basing it on things and values that we prefer to believe in. So the power of this video is understanding that there's a process we can use for changing the way that we define ourselves and that when we change the way we define ourselves to be right now in this moment, we then begin to change the way we view the past and we then begin to change the probable futures that we could expect. Experience. So this is about changing the way we define ourselves and letting go of the past of who we thought that we were. Now, who we thought that we were was on autopilot. So just by us becoming aware of what we're thinking, of the beliefs that we have, we've already started to simply decide who we prefer to be and who we don't prefer to be. So if we look at the past, we can see that maybe certain beliefs held us for a certain amount of time. What we can do is start to look at that, see that it served a certain period of our time of our life, and then simply decide that we're going to let it go. It doesn't serve us anymore. It doesn't serve us anymore because we're realizing that it's not who we prefer to be and that now we prefer to be somebody that encompasses more of our potential. And in simply having that decision that we're going to now consciously decide who we are, we are automatically starting to take our power back. Now, a simple way to do this is to realize this analogy. Now, this analogy is used from the idea of understanding how we can change our habits. Now this is going to be based on— it was a psychology study I read years ago actually, and it has to do with biting our nails. For example, if you want to overcome the habit of biting your nails, what they found in studies is that if the person thinks of not biting their nails, they actually enable them to bite their nails more. So whether they have an intention to bite their nails or to not bite their nails, the attention is on the phrase bite their nails. It's what imagery that comes to mind. Mind, and because of that imagery, it's constantly triggering them to bite their nails. But if instead what they did is they chose a preferred outcome of what they prefer, if they were to change the whole system itself and not try to change components of it and start to view themselves as somebody who just does what they want to do, somebody that uses their hands and doesn't feel the need to bring it up to their mouth, if they don't feel triggered, if they start to view themselves as having hands that are in just good condition from not having to bite it, automatically they then start to actually experience not biting their nails. That is a much more powerful process. Now in the same way, what we can begin to do is understand that our mind, when we visualize, does not know the difference from what we are visualizing to what we are actually experiencing. So we can start to anchor ourselves into creating the beliefs that we want by viewing ourselves in a new way. So for example, If you viewed yourself as unworthy of doing something because you had a limiting belief that you couldn't do your passion because your friends and family would judge you, you can then start to imagine yourself doing your passion, not caring what other people think, and even maybe doing your passion and people supporting you because they see that it's what you love to do. Now, as you begin to visualize that end result with a desire to experience that and you start to visualize it more and more, The more repetitive that you do it, the more that that starts to become who you are. Now there's another very important part of this process. You must start to take action as if that were you. You must take action and anchor that into who you are, and the more that you do this, the more that it actually starts to become you, and then that becomes who you are now from the decision rather than who you thought that you were based upon the autopilot mind. So this is about becoming aware of who we thought that we were, realizing that that's not who we are. Anymore. Deciding who we are, simply imagining what that entails, doing it over and over again. Repetition will start to anchor it into us. Taking the action as if that were who we are because it is who we are now, and then beginning to do it more and more. And the more we do that, the more that we begin to experience more of our life potential of who we are. I used to have a limiting belief that said that I could not create more than 1 or 2 videos a week because I am too busy. That was what I believed, and I thought that I was actually working hard. I thought that I was creating a lot because I was always constantly busy, but what I realized was that that was a negative belief that I had and I simply decided one day I was like, I'm going to start creating more videos. And then all of a sudden I simply decided I'm going to do a video a day and I started to just realize the first day I did it, the next day I just simply did not let it slide. I made it an absolute must that I had to do it. I did it. And then by the second or third day I just started to view myself as somebody that creates a video a day. I started to know that that's just who I am, and as I continue to take action, as I continue to immerse my energy into it, it just became a natural part of who I am. And one of the most strong human desires there is is to remain consistent to the way we define ourselves. So now I just— I am somebody that creates one video a day. It doesn't mean I'll never miss a day, but it does mean that that's just who I am. And based upon that, it makes it easier for me to actually perpetuate that state of being because it's a part of who I am. So understand that that's all you have to do is start to view yourself in a new light. Start to view and understand that most of what we think is habitual. It's hypnotized. It's something we continue to think over and over again about who we are. It's based on who and how we relate to the world and really understand this is a powerful part of it as well. How we define ourselves to be and how we relate to other people will kind of also dictate what we experience. So what we can begin to do is to not judge ourselves and not label us and compare us to other people. All of us are unique for who we are. We do not need to put a value system as to, I am better than this person, I'm doing this, that person is not. We don't need to rank ourselves in that way. Anytime we rank ourselves as inferior or superior, we are then emphasizing the little ego, the little self-esteem, the little bubble, and by doing that, we are keeping ourselves in that little limited state of being that cares what other people think and that feels however it does. What we can begin to do is just realize that we can be ourselves 100%, that there is nobody else out there that is like you, and by coming at it from that frame, you then begin to see that you can just be yourself in this moment. You then will care less what other people think. That'll give you more permission to be yourself, which will naturally then begin to break through those limiting beliefs. So I hope you guys enjoyed this video. Feel free to like this video if you liked it, share it if you found it of value, and as As always, I'll see you guys on the next video. Peace, much love, namaste. Alright, bye.
